Just to play Devil's advocate, as a sheriff, his role is to get information from Muslims, to work with them to try to get some of them to rat out others who are planning terrorist actions. A great deal of LA County Deputies and department brass visit Jihadwatch and are well aware of the never ending efforts of Islamic determinations based on the Quranic teachings.
The most important issue here is that Sheriff Baca and many in his staff need to have a better understanding of what Islam and sharia is all about and be fully aware of the practices and infamous history of groups like CAIR.
Sheriff Baca just like any other VIP becomes a target for influences by CAIR and their not so subtle (stealth jihad)as well as being subjected to their taquiya charm offensive.

Everyone has seen examples in TV or movies of the street wise cop seeing through the lies of the suspect and getting to the truth of the matter. Yet those same tough minded people are putty in the hands of Muslims whose lies flow off the tongue like the chirping of birds in springtime. The problem is in the premise, the presumption being that Islam is just another religion with similar principles of good and evil. Every action or non-action taken by an infidel based upon that false premise results in failure. In the same way that they have to deal with a suspect a little bit differently in order to get to the truth, sometimes being very nice not even letting on they are a suspect, but always keeping the premise in mind and being aware the suspect could be lying, all Muslims, unfortunately, need to be dealt with with the understanding that whatever they are saying on the surface, however nice they may seem, the end goal of their religion is the destruction of your civilization and your human rights, that they could be lying to you, that you can't take anything at face value. This by the way is far too much work, expensive, and a waste of time, and that is why allowing Islam in the West is a huge and ultimately fatal mistake.

The Nigerian Foreign Ministry said it had recalled Ambassador Isah Mohammed for urgent consultations after Gaddafi's comments, which come as Nigeria tries to contain violent clashes between Muslim and Christian gangs which have killed hundreds of people around the central city of Jos.
The Nigerian parliament meanwhile passed a motion late on Thursday urging the government to order an investigation by the African Union into whether Libya was supplying "infiltrators" to destabilise the country.
"The insensitive and oftentimes irresponsible utterances of Colonel Gaddafi, his theatrics and grandstanding at every auspicious occasion have become too numerous to recount. These have diminished his status and credibility as a leader to be taken seriously," the Nigerian Foreign Ministry said.
"His comments on the crisis in Jos, Plateau state, are most unacceptable and unbecoming of any leader who claims to advocate and champion the cause of African integration and unity."
Gaddafi said in a speech to students this week that the Jos crisis was a "deep conflict of religious nature" and suggested splitting Nigeria along religious lines "would stop bloodshed and burning of places of worship", according to the BBC.

I want to be supportive of LA County Sheriff Baca but his defense of CAIR was simply over the top for me. Unless he is playing some kind of double game here he should not be defending that organization at all in my opinion.

But that is just not good enough. You can't vouch for him to everyone else concerned, actions speak louder than words. If he had qualified his comments saying something like "I am aware of the grave concerns many have with CAIR and I share those concerns... but as sheriff I still need to interact with all groups, but you can rest assured I stay alert at all times for disingenuous efforts on their part or attempts to conceal their true motives or confuse those not aware of the organization and their broader goals. Until our nation comes up with a comprehensive policy on Islam someone in my position is forced to deal with them.
JW alone cannot defeat islam. JW efforts are pivotal and essential in our defense against isalm., there is no American in my view who I admire and respect more that Mr. Spencer,in this regard.

I am often surprised at how often seasoned journalists—not to mention elected officials—take groups like CAIR at face value.
Research these days is easier than ever before. Whenever I run across a suspect individual, organization, or reference, I always Google them.
I look for reputable sources—usually in the main-stream media. Official governmental site are useful, too. A publication's or organization's own site can be interesting as well, to see how they wish to present themselves. If I do find an interesting allegation on a blog or other unverified site, I try to confirm it elsewhere.
Besides a standard search, it is often instructive to Google the subject + "terrorism" (of course, "Jihad" would be more accurate, but it simply isn't widely enough used).
Of course, you don't always find anything—but it is astonishing some of the things you can find.
Incidentally, DDA—at the risk of sounding like a "mutual admiration society" here—I am always impressed that you have so many references right at your fingertips. I always think about keeping copious back files, but I have enough of a time just keeping all my art reference in order.
Sheriff Lee Baca is a fool to think there is no direct link to terrorist organizations, he should be replaced asap.

One of the things that Waking West doesn't understand is what would have put Sheriff Baca into a position to go along with dhimmitude. The average American is not aware of the fact that CAIR has specifically targeted our police departments and sheriff's office's throughout the entire U.S. for infiltration in order to neuter them so that they will not be a threat to Islam and it's stated purpose of overthrowing our Constitutional system and replacing it with Sharia law.
Watch the blueprint. They use the same tactics for police departments that they used on the Flying Imams case. A Muslim causes an incident. The Muslim is reprimanded in some way. Said Muslim complains to CAIR and CAIR sends a threatening letter demanding the following:
1) a written apology to the perpetrator involved
2) some sort of financial compensation for the perpetrator
3) insistence that CAIR be allowed to come into the a)company, b) corporation, c) police department and give their version of sensitivity training.
This has worked so well for CAIR that they keep repeating the process and reaping the benefits.

I could list hundreds of examples but I'll just mention a few. Remember when Nike put a swoosh on a pair of their shoes that looked like the Arabic word for Allah? Well, CAIR pitched a fit, demanded an apology and also demanded financial compensation. So Nike dhimmifyingly agreed to pull all the shoes that had that logo, kiss CAIR's backside and build a playground to the tune of $50,000+. Why did they do this? Because Muslims got their panties in a wad and because they've learned how to work the system, that they hate so much, to overthrow that system and our way of life.

You see, an apology from the mayor of an American city to a former goat herder/turned disgruntled whiner is not enough. No, in the Muslim world you have to pay BIG TIME in order for a Muslim's sensitive feelings to be unhurt. And let's be really honest here. Isn't the reason these women who come to our country that wear the niqab that they are deliberately trying to “give some of us a Turn”? It's the same as if we went over to Saudi Arabia and insisted on wearing a bikini while strolling downtown. We would be asking for a reaction and not entitled to any special treatment just because we provoked the powers that be.
What we are talking about here is intimidation and extortion, the latter being against the law in the U.S. But if CAIR can neutralize the arms of government who enforce those laws they can do whatever the heck they want and what will we be able to do to stop them?
The reason it is so egregious that Sheriff Baca has caved to the CAIR intimidation is that we expect our police officers and sheriffs to be brave and protect the people in their jurisdictions that they have taken an oath to protect. If they are caving to the enemy because of fear they need to rethink their positions and formulate a plan to eradicate the enemy's stronghold on their departments, not give into them.
I would no more live submissively under the dictatorial demands of a former Somali goat herder in my beloved United States of America than I would a Marxist narcissist who can't seem to find his birth certificate. CAIR is getting it from every angle and will soon be on the defensive with all the dirt that's coming out about it and all the lawsuits against that it is not able to control. Sheriffs like Lee Baca will need to choose sides and if they choose the side of CAIR they may end up going down with it.
“Sheriff Lee Baca was telling a Homeland Security subcommittee about staying on positive terms with the Muslim community. Republican Congressman Mark Souder of Indiana questioned Baca’s relationship with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which he implied helped groups that call for the destruction of Israel.
Souder said "there’s a substantial difference between protected speech and government officials going to fundraisers for organizations that do speech that is radical. And Sheriff Baca, you’ve been 10 times to the fundraisers for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which even the FBI has separated themselves from."
Baca interrupted, saying "and I’ll be there 10 more times."
Baca said CAIR did not support terrorists. "That is my experience, that is my interaction. And if you want to support that, you’re on your own." “

By the way, does this "than western-non-muslim woman" realize that she was breaking the laws of Saudi Arabia by being out on the streets of Riyadh unaccompanied by a male relative? She risks arrest by the Muttawa, the Saudi "religious police".

Let's see what happens next. Lee indeed may belong to the islam is peace group of isalm enabling dhimmies. The irony is that just a month ago, CAIR legaly intimidated the daylights out of Rex Paris, mayor of Lancaster, for saying his comunity was a growing Chrisitan one. About three months ago, Rex and Lee under the same church roof, prayed together and spoke of their mutual shared faith and common unity. If anything this should have clued Lee about the true nature of CAIR. Somewhere somehow, Lee has a desion to
make, he cannot remain both faithful to that church, his friend Rex and CAIR.
MAHSC is holding a town hall meeting with Sheriff Baca on March 23.
