Demonstrating once again that terrorism works, and the threat of terrorism works -- and that's why we will see more of both. "Indonesian Police Ban Regional Gay Conference," from AP, March 24 (thanks to Block Ness):
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- Indonesian police ordered the cancellation Wednesday of a conference of Asian gay activists, saying it could prompt violent protests by conservative Muslim groups. The conference, organized by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, or ILGA, was due to take place this weekend with participants from 16 countries.
The ban was issued by police in Surabaya, East Java's capital, where the three-day event was to be held, national police spokesman Brig. Gen. Sulistyo Ishak said.
The decision was made after considering public objections by Muslim groups and the Indonesian Ulema Council, an influential board of Muslim clerics, he said.
''There are indications that the event could trigger a social crisis and cause public unrest,'' Ishak said. ''This ban was issued for the sake of public order.''...
Of course.

Muslims fear the sadistic punishment of Allah

I guess its OK to have sex with or molest underage boys and girls but its taboo to have a conference on homosexuality. Why because somehow "discussing" different viewpoints is a sin in Islam or is it just bad publicity?
Before you say there is are no homosexuals in the Muslim community, I don't remember the exact quote but "boys like pearls strewn about their feet" seems to ring a bell.
Whats the deal?
The Advocate is covering the story:

Does the corollary apply outside Dar al Islam i.e. public expressions of islam such as open-air prayers, conferences or demonstrations should be banned in order not to offend LGBT's. After all, if outrageously provoked by being exposed to islam, is it not quite justifiable for LGBT's to rampage through the streets slaughtering muslims, burning their property and tearing down minarettes? If muslims make disparaging remarks about a gay icon such as a Judy Garland, they could well be strung up from a street lamp without the world press thinking that it deserves more than a short paragraph.

It does seem contradictory—homosexuality is clearly rife throughout the Muslim world, and yet homosexuals are regularly condemned to death in Dar-al—Islam. Recently, an Imam opined that defenestration was the appropriate punishment for homosexuality.
After a fair amount of study, I believe the deal is this—if the homosexuality is intended to injure and humiliate—as in the case of rape—it is entirely Halal. It is also acceptable if it represents pedophilia or an ugly power-play—as in the molestation of those "pearly boys".
If the homosexuality is fully reciprocal—between basic equals, for pleasure—then it is harshly condemned. If the participants actually profess affection for each other, then it is regarded with the most profound disgust.
The following clearly illustrates this, in the most repulsive terms. Here is Iranian Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Mesbah-Yazdi, interviewed regarding the rape of prisoners in the Islamic Republic:
"Can an interrogator rape the prisoner in order to obtain a confession?" was the follow-up question posed to the Islamic cleric.
Mesbah-Yazdi answered: "The necessary precaution is for the interrogator to perform a ritual washing first and say prayers while raping the prisoner. If the prisoner is female, it is permissible to rape through the vagina or anus. It is better not to have a witness present. If it is a male prisoner, then it's acceptable for someone else to watch while the rape is committed."
This reply, and reports of the rape of teen male prisoners in Iranian jails, may have prompted the following question: "Is the rape of men and young boys considered sodomy?"
Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi: *"No, because it is not consensual. Of course, if the prisoner is aroused and enjoys the rape, then caution must be taken not to repeat the rape."* [emphasis mine—GI]

Wasn't there a similar thread posted yesterday? I think it was called,
"Robert Spencer cancels Muslim conference for fear of offending gays."
Thank you for the clarification Gravenimage, even though, the rationale of it all makes no sense, but then why should it at all when it comes to Islam?
Point well taken.
The rift between our sense of humanity and Islamic sense of humanity is worlds apart.
