I don't know, passing laws like this just kind of seems like playing whack-a-mole, or trying to keep plugging holes in the dyke that keep appearing. Passing innumberable laws isn't goint to change the fact that you have a rising percentage of the population with fundamentally different values on many different levels. Laws aren't just words on paper that can always be enforced on any population---in a healthy society they have to rise organically, be agreed upon, and reflect the common values of the population. When the common values aren't agreed upon, I'm dubious that this approach is going to be that effective.

Why wouldn't someone like Sarkozy use his public podium to emphasize, to dwell, to scream out constantly the situation in Islam's birthplace? A country where countless millions of Muslims gladly go every year to complete their duty without one syllable of concern over Saudi's human rights record. To point out that it is not only Saudi Arabia, but most other Islamic countries too that treat all other religions (and lack of) like garbage. Show the world what hypocrites they are when they whine to us about equality.

The full veil should be banned because it is a safety hazard, in many ways, and it gives criminals, male and female, a mask to hide their faces while in commission of criminal acts.
Call me jaded, but Mr. Sarkozy sounds, to me, as if he's trying to curry favor with women for their votes.

No truly free woman, of sound mind, born free, raised in a free and open society, nurtured with the tenets of human equality, encouraged to develop her own strengths and individuality, would choose willingly to wear the stifling and confining niqab. The degree to which Muslim females demand the right to wear the niqab reflects the degree of their indoctrination.
To the Muslim women who wear the niqab, and suffer its indignities while continuing to deny those same indignities, Sarkozy has presented the opportunity to taste freedom.

Even though some could argue that Sarkozy is interfering with the right of free will for these pathetic females, he is forcing them to live like a person. Hopefully, that will become more pleasant to these females than walking around entombed, 24/7. That is the really bigger benefit to starting this trend.
