"Headley, 49, had denied the charges but changed his plea to avoid the death penalty or extradition to India, Pakistan or Denmark."
Jihad Watch reader Paul comments: "Heh. Didn't really believe all those promises of the celestial Playboy Club, did we now, Daood?"
"US citizen David Headley admits role in Mumbai attacks," from the BBC, March 18 (thanks to all who sent this in):
A US citizen has pleaded guilty to scouting targets for the 2008 attacks on the Indian city of Mumbai.David Headley, at his trial in Chicago, also admitted plotting to attack a Danish newspaper that published a cartoon many Muslims deemed offensive.
Headley, 49, had denied the charges but changed his plea to avoid the death penalty or extradition to India, Pakistan or Denmark.
The attacks on Mumbai in November 2008 left more than 170 people dead....
Prosecutors said Headley, a Pakistani-American, had made several surveillance trips to India and Denmark.
According to court documents, he passed on information to his contacts with the Pakistan-based Islamic militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The group has been blamed for organising the Mumbai attacks....
He is alleged to have told prosecutors that he had been working with Lashkar-e-Taiba since 2002.
He was first charged with plotting to attack the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten after they angered Muslims by publishing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
Headley changed his name from Daood Gilani in 2006 after he was told by members of Lashkar-e-Taiba that he would be travelling to India to carry out surveillance duties for the group, prosecutors said.
Geez, no one in security circles wondered why "Daood Gilani" changed his name to "David Headley"?
Sigh...we have such a long way to go.

It has been speculated in the Indian media that Gilani was a double agent of FBI who went rouge.Gilani was operating with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, based in Pakistan, but went rouge to conspire along with Pakistan's ISI, the Mumbai terror attacks in Nov 2008. Now that he has pleaded guilty, he not only avoids death penalty, but more importantly, any extradition to India or interrogation request of Indian intelligence which has been denied by FBI right from the beginning of his arrest. This decision of the FBI to prevent the interrogation of Gilani by the Indian intelligence is supposed to be a political decision of the US Govt. This decision has not only prevented justice, but it also protects the State of Pak from its involvement in terrorism in India.
Everywhere that the name David Headley appears, his original name -- Daood Gilani -- should appear beside it, thus:
David Headley (Daood Gilani)
This is clarifying. This helps the reader understand better. Merely to mention, somewhere in the story, that "David Headley" was born "Daood Gilani" does not do the job.
Just a note for future reference: it's rogue, not rouge. Rouge is makeup that women used to put on their cheeks. :)
Thank God we are all here to help one another!
"Just a note for future reference: it's rogue, not rouge. Rouge is makeup that women used to put on their cheeks."

One good way to remember the difference:
There's nothing good to be said about rogue states.
There's something good to be said for rouge states, especially if the telltale flush or blush on the young lady in question has been naturally induced, without any artificial aids or maquillage.
"David Headley" is the issue of a Pakistani sire and one of those silly American women who thinks it's really cool to mate with exotic brown foreigners (see Dunham, Stanley Ann; Paulin-Ramirez, Jamie, et al.). He grew up in Pakistan with his father, raised as a devout Muslim with the Urdu name of Daood Gilani (Headley is his mom's name; he adopted it to ease his passage through borders), and came to the U.S. at 17. His story is told in some detail at

Hugh, thanks for your word selection...I can't resist smiling!
Yet another in a series of fruitless memos to the Obama administration -
1. Why are you trying this jihadi in a civilian court?!?1
2. Notice how Daood (or David, if he is infiltrating the "House of War") is willing to plead guilty to avoid extradition. Turns out that being tried in the Devil America has certain advantages for members of the jihad.
3. Read #2 again. Now - why the h-e-double hockey sticks are you trying this jihadi in a civilian court?
"There's something good to be said for rouge states, especially if the telltale flush or blush on the young lady in question has been naturally induced, without any artificial aids or maquillage."
Quite so! Touché!
Why aren't Americans *outraged* that nominal Americans like David Headley (Daood Gilani) are using the United States as a base to launch Jihad plots to murder European cartoonists and Indian civilians?
I have never been able to understand why so many Westerners seem so sanguine–or at least indifferent—that England, and France, and Germany, and Ireland, and the U.S., and so many other places in the civilized West, are being used by Muslims to wage Jihad.
You know When a folks want to change his name from a muslim name to a Christian name without changing his Religion you must have some bells rigning inside your head,i think.
Errrrm, why isn't Headley facing a trial in India? Oh, the Indians might hang him. Oops, should have done better.
gravenimage,
I wouldn't say it was sanguinity (is that the correct word?), so much as being kept in check by enforced political correctness. I work for a defense contractor, yet I don't dare use the word "Muslim", in anything less flattering than a neutral tone. As for "Islam"? Forget it. It's literally a firing offense to offend anyone.
It's skewed in exact counter to the American legal system. One is guilty (by virtue of the hurt feelings of another), unless he can prove his intent was not to hurt the other's little feelings.
I would like to be as creative as you, or as brave as dumbledoresarmy, or as purposeful as others I've not mentioned. Yes, it is partly that I need to get off my lazy ass. But it's also partly a reluctance to be arrested.
Although...I suppose I could rely on my ex-husband to bail me out. He's a good egg.
Since SEVERAL Israelis were KILLED at the Mumbai Chabad House, which Headley/Gilani disguised himself as an Orthodox Jew to recon, Israel has a CLAIM to him also.
Headley/Gilani in Israel's hands?
One can only hope.
I agree.
I think the USA should - discreetly - invite Mossad (and the Indians, as well) to come interrogate him. Let them turn him inside out.
Both the Indians and the Israelis have a very large bone to pick with this abominable creature.
I wonder whether anyone's tried matching his voiceprint to the Indian-made recordings of the voices of the various 'handlers' who (safe inside Pakistan) used mobile phone to remote-control the jihadist murderers during that ghazwa raid on Mumbai?
For...what if he turned out to be one of the people who was gloatingly telling the murderers what to do to Rivka Holzberger, her unborn baby, and her husband?
If *that* were so then there'd be no tree in the world high enough to hang him from - 'higher than Haman' - and no hole deep enough to bury him in afterward.
Speaking of Daood/David - this is somewhat off-topic, but I just heard that the Department of Social Services in Detroit gets a lot of foreign Muslim visitors to the USA who happen to be women in late pregnancy. They deliver their babies in the USA so as to beget American citizens, then they leave. And the DSS apparently caves to all Islamic pressures put upon them, not only this - a manifestation of dhimmitudinous Islamophobia, surely. I don't know if this has ever been investigated.
Yes, Dear DDA, Perhaps they should reconsider the ole "drawn and quartered" medieval punishment for these types of crimes?
لن استسلم
ABS
Not 'drawn and quartered'. Not even if he turned out to have been one of the 'handlers'; in that case, the same end as Eichmann met, would suffice.
keep these things in mind the next time you see someone taking pictures of tunnels, bridges, train stations, sports facilities, military facilities, police facilities, financial institutions, schools, airport facilities, ....yadadadada.you know the targets...maybe the photographer is just taking pictures to show where he has been, but just maybe he is a scout for the army of Islam and is photographing avenues of attack and retreat...If you think about it and you have a camera ...snap their picture....you just never know when your photographs may become invaluable....
