You can be sure this a just a tip of the ice berg of child abuses that have and are occuring in the muslims world. How many little girls suffrerd and died at the hands of their older husbands? In the gool old days, these little victim's death were blamed on victims or by allah's will. They quickly buried and forgotten. The husband gets another young child bride, no questions asked.

This is really something which makes every human being who has not lost his/her humanity to feel a sorrow beyond any description... Those poor children have no one to escape, no one to shelter them in the so vicious environments they live. It is terrible...

I remember Wafa Sultan crying in one of her speechs, referring to such a tragedy about a relative of her. How not to feel her anger...

I think the Vatican gets what it deserves. However, we have a short memory when it comes to marriage age as defined by Canonical law:

"Impediments properly so called, which are personal incapacities, some absolute, some relative. Two arise from the physical incapacity of the subject: impuberty and impotency. Puberty is the state of physical development requisite for generation. The age of puberty varies with the individual and the climate; the legal presumption of the Roman law fixed it at twelve years for girls and fourteen for boys. The church has followed this rule or presumption, but it has not made want of a fixed age an impediment properly so-called which would render the marriage void under every hypothesis. It is presumed that young people reach the age of puberty at twelve and fourteen; it is presumed that they do not reach it before this time; but if as a matter of fact they have reached it, and a marriage be necessitated by the circumstances of the case (quando malitia supplet ætatem), the marriage is valid without dispensation."

The girl was 13 years old when she gave birth, probably 12 when married and that is perfectly legal both according to Sharia and Canonical law.

I have to admit that my quote was from the Catholic Encyclopedia of 1917. Since that time the Catholic church have accepted the secular laws more or less. ;-)

You may also find this essay by Kimberly Daniels fascinating, as she explains the devils hatred for women in a manner that really speaks to me. I cannot even tell you how many times my husband has said to me, "Why didn't I listen to you ...you were right", about this, that or the other person, place or thing. And it's true, I can recall many times where I have sensed that something was wrong about either an individual, or a situation -- and it turned out that I was right. I credit this to my personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and I try to stay closely and constantly connected to Him in prayer -- so in no way am I crediting these instincts and inner knowings to myself.

Champ - an interesting read. Do you know that in some traditions of Judaism, the *woman* walks around the man at their wedding? She encircles him; 'staking out', so to speak, the sacred space that they will both inhabit from that day forward. And this is related to that same passage from Jeremiah.

It was a long time ago. I needed help dealing with it when I was 30, after my daughter was born. She is now 26.

I would strongly encourage anyone who is trying to cope alone to go to a survivors group, or to therapy, or whatever. It sure helped me.

Curiously enough, you're not the only such survivor to have joined the Resistance. I recall several other members of this forum, along the way, who have described having endured - and, ultimately, escaped and overcome - experiences like yours.

I have a theory - only a guess - that people like you, in our non-Islamic societies, who have successfully survived and overcome the experience of being abused either in childhood and/or marriages, etc., are among the first people to twig that there is something seriously wrong with Islam and Muslims.

Your alarm bells may well be triggered sooner than the alarm bells of the lucky people who, like me, have had happy, loving, non-abusive childhoods. The reason being that you, as an intelligent survivor, have learned to recognise and avoid abusers; so when you encounter Islam which is, through and through, a system of flagrant, sacralised, ritualised, codified abuse, you feel the same bad vibes coming off it that you used to feel coming off the person or persons who abused you. Your senses start screaming at you - "Something wicked this way comes"!

The corollary to this is, I think, that some in the free non-Muslim world who have suffered traumatic childhood or spousal abuse, but *have not* acknowledged it and gotten help, who have *not* successfully escaped, faced down and triumphed over their experiences - people who have, instead, been essentially destroyed or are simply in denial - are among the first to be sucked into Islam once it enters our society; some because their natural 'boundaries' have been obliterated and they are pre-programmed for a victim role, others because they have themselves become abusers.

Instead of pointing out the obvious and (for readers of JW) well known fundamental differences between Islamic theology and Christianity/Catholicism at this day and age, I had hoped for reflections of a deeper and more philosophical nature, instead of just trying to make the messenger untrustworthy.

To me it is striking that none of the monotheistic religions, all of them obcessed with tabuisation and detailed regulation of human sexuality never in their sacred texts established a legal age for marriage, the only acceptable gateway to sexuality?

This lack of regulation seems almost as irresponsible and morally deficient as the deregulation of the unborn childs right to life by free abortion laws in the name of progress and womens right to selfdetermination.

In both cases it concerns matters of life and death as demonstrated in the sad story from Yemen and similar cases in Islam when a child bride dies because she is not sufficient developed to give birth to a child.

From my quotation of canonical law it is evident that the Church has adoptated the tradition according to Roman law fixing the legal marriage age at twelve years for girls and fourteen for boys without any independent thought in the light of the scriptures and the moral teaching of Jesus Christ as to whether this is morally acceptable or not. Instead the Church is prepared to use a purely biological standard - ability to reprocuce - as norm instead of the fixed ages in Roman law making the age relative in case of child pregnancy. Where is the compassion for the well being of the child bride in this pragmatic obcession with maximum reproduction?

In islam the complete disregard for the well being of children used to satisfy the sexual lust of men does not even respect sexual maturity as a criteria for marriage and sex. No age limits for girls can be found in the Qur´an or the hadith. And thanks to dumbledoresarmy for giving horrible examples of beastly treatment of small girls.

I fould this description of the situation in pre-Islamic Arabia in an Islamic website:

If this is true Islam must indeed have been a moral improvement. ;-)

The second point I am making is that the improvement of the condition of children and the raising of the marriage age did not come from Christianity but from secular humanistic thinking in the Age of Enlightentment. More rapid in the Lutheran Churches because Luther claimed that marriage is not a sacrament: “No one can deny that marriage is an external, worldly, matter, like clothing and food, house and property, subject to temporal authority, as the many imperial laws enacted on the subject prove.” This view allowed later for the secular authority to define what marriage is and regulate the marriage age not based upon tradition but from what is rational and morally appropriate.

An one more thing. Christianity never tolerated female genital mutilation. On the other hand some of the early church fathers castrated themselves. At the ecumenical council at Nicaea in 325, the first official declaration ordered the removal from clerical office of men who castrated themselves. (Note that the canon assumed that such men existed; note also that it did not prohibit self-castration to all Christian men but only to priests). Probably the most famous self-made eunuch in early Christianity was Origen of Alexandria. Eusebius wrote that:

"He committed an act characteristic of an immature and youthful mind, yet, notwithstanding, including abundant proof of faith and self-control. For he took the words, "There are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of Heaven," in too literal and extreme a sense, thinking ... to fulfill the words of the Savior.
Jerome wrote of Origin: "So much did he flee from pleasure, that, with zeal for God but not with proper understanding, he cut off his genitals with a knife."

At least Origen did not become a peadophile child molester, only an extreme hater of the female sex: "Women are worse than animals because they are continuously full of lust." Origen does not approve of the sexual act even in marriage and taught that although widowers can remarry, they are by no means crowned for this. He also argued in his commentary on 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 that female prophets never spoke publicly in the assembly. I think he did the right thing when he cut out his genitals with a knife. Unfortunately he founded a tradition that ended in celibacy for the priesthood and rape of innocent children. In order for the Catholic Church to regain the confidence in its priests they should make the example of Origen a new dogma instead of celibacy. At least I would respect such a devotion to the true faith. ;-)

Surely, if Christianity was followed strictly, based on the New Testament teachings, maybe we would not have even the two recent so catastrophic World wars in Europe. There was involved much human selfishness even to a so sane originally teaching. But the difference lies in that Christianity's foundations are clear from any kind of absurdity. The main reason that the Western world had this so interesting phenomenon called 'social evolution' is this I think. There was always a concious or unconcious tendency to arrive to the norm of the New Testament life view. And... indeed what is secularism other than the 'let give what is Caesar's to Caesar and and what is God's to God'... It took whole centuries to arrive to this point but the evolution never ceased from the very beginning...

Islam's very foundation is violent and so non permitting a social evolution. Really, Islam looks like a sanctification of whatever is sinful and inhuman. The fact that does not recognize Christ's crucifixion as a reality owes to nothing other than to its denial of the spirit of self sacrifice. Christ sacrifices himself for saving the World, Muhammad sacrifices others pretending that does the same... It sounds as totally ridiculous but it is a fact:-)

For not being perceived as a Christian fanatic let say that Budhism too, for example, gives the opportunity of social evolution. Its life ideals are so high that you have to be in a constant change towards even more peacefulness and respect to the others. You may try to blur the original teachings of it (as happened in WW2 Japan) but they will be always there. You will never find in the sutras a prompting saying 'conquer the world for spreading the teaching and whoever resists kill him'...

The healthiness of the foundations of a tradition is a most important element. This is the thing that we have to focus, because human weaknesses will exist, you can not eliminate them totally. The sea may be turbulent from time to time, surely, but if your compass is a good one you will never loose your way. If your compass is not a properly working one you have no hope.

Islam is all about taboos and rules but it is impossible to find any overriding moral principle except that anything that promote Islam and its goal is good and the opposite is always bad.

In other major religions such as Judaism and Christianity the overriding moral principle is the Golden Rule. It is also called the ethic of reciprocity. There is no reciprocity in Islam and therefore no room for the Golden Rule. This is the case for all fascistic ideologies such as nazism and marxism-Leninism.

This vaginal opening obviously wouldn't allow any normal entry of a penis without cutting or tearing. I couldn't find exact figures, but I do know that infibulation is extremely common in Yemen, and it is likely that this poor girl had indeed been infibulated.

I just ran across a disturbing article—there is a clinic for genitally mutilated women in Boston—the only other hospital of its kind in the West is in London.

The tone of the article implies that the main problem these women face is "ignorance" and "insensitivity" from doctors and American hospital staff.

"When a circumcised woman shows up in a U.S. emergency room with a bladder infection or ready to deliver a baby, Nour says, an inexperienced provider can make her feel like a freak."

This article obfuscates the link to Islam, and implausibly claims that FGM probably started in ancient Europe and Greece.

This last line is probably the most poignant, in light of the horrific story above:

"She performed about twenty deinfibulations last year - on women with chronic infections, on women planning to get married, and on others who managed to get pregnant and were going to give birth. (How they get pregnant mystifies even Nour.)"

And check this out, barcode was banned, right ...and then he reregistered that same day under a different monker, "Paula Jane". So what does Paula Jane do? Why she/he starts attacking me, and then proceeds take my inventory by telling me how unhappy my husband is, as if she/he would know such a thing -- and then Paula Jane starts defending BARCODE. How hilarious is that!! Barcode not only pretends to be a woman (or maybe barcode IS a woman), but launches a campaign defending herself -- which is priceless. Then later on that day Marisol noticed that barcode and paula jane were one in the same, because they had the same IP address; so she pointed it out on the thread, and then banned barcode/paula jane a SECOND time. Bwaaaaa! It was really entertaining ....

Yeah, Champ, the idea that "Mr Barcode" was just an average British bloke named Alex who became mildly intrigued by Islam because the ladies on the registers whom he supervised were all so wise and serene was pretty ludicrous.
