"CAIR: Anti-Islam Ads Pulled From Miami Buses," CAIR's press release on the dhimmis at Miami-Dade Transit pulling our religious liberty bus ads, has the unsavory Hamas-linked thugs yet again doing the sack dance over the freedom of speech, and spreading sleazy libels about Pamela Geller and me.
The South Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFL) today announced that Miami-Dade Transit is dropping bus advertisements sponsored by an anti-Islam hate group.
Let's see. CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case -- so named by the Justice Department. CAIR operatives have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror, and that CAIR's cofounder and longtime Board chairman (Omar Ahmad), as well as its chief spokesman (Honest Ibe Hooper), have made Islamic supremacist statements.
Meanwhile, SIOA is dedicated to defending the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, the legal equality of all people, and the Constitutional principle of non-establishment of religion as the only secure foundation for a society in which people of good faith differ in conscience.
Which one is the hate group again?
CAIR-SFL asked that the ads, produced by the hate group Stop the Islamization of America, be dropped because they promote bigotry and may fuel discrimination against ordinary Florida Muslims.
So it does look as if Miami-Dade Transit bowed to the will of these duplicitous Hamas-linked Islamic supremacist thugs. We're suing Miami-Dade Transit for infringement of our First Amendment rights and breach of contract.
"We believe Miami-Dade Transit did the right thing in dropping this campaign of hatred and intolerance," said CAIR-SFL Executive Director Muhammed Malik. "The advertisement's reference to apostasy is merely a smoke-screen for the promotion of anti-Islam bigotry and the attempted marginalization of American Muslims."
No, CAIR's actions are merely a smokescreen for the Islamic supremacist suppression of the freedom of speech and the introduction into the U.S. of Sharia provision requiring dhimmis to refrain from speaking in unacceptable ways about Allah or Muhammad, on pain of death.
He said Stop the Islamization of America's leaders, Pam Geller and Robert Spencer, are considered by many Muslims to be among the nation's most vicious Islamophobes.
CAIR would have you believe that telling the truth about the global jihad and Islamic supremacism is "Islamophobia." I think the term Islamorealism is more accurate.
Then CAIR defames Pamela Geller, who ably answers here. Unfortunately for the gentle stomach-stapled beekeeper Honest Ibe Hooper and his merry band of liars at CAIR, on the same day that CAIR claimed that Geller was "seemingly supportive of the slain South African apartheid leader Eugene Terre'blanche," she wrote about Terreblanche at the American Thinker that he was the "leader of the noxious and hateful neo-Nazi Afrikaner Resistance Movement (AWB)." Whoops!
And so it goes. Virtually all of what CAIR says about Pamela Geller is unsupported smear, some of it taken from the by now hopelessly discredited libelblogger Charles Johnson, whom CAIR doesn't even name in this press release. This is a departure from earlier smearfests from CAIR, and shows that even Honest Ibe Hooper and his fellow libel artists know that Johnson is so thoroughly discredited that to name him as the source of the "fascist" smears would be to show them to be hollow on their face.
Then CAIR turns to me:
Robert Spencer has also been criticized for the extremism exhibited on his personal anti-Muslim web site "Jihad Watch," which recently compared Muslims to Nazis. Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald wrote: "When I see thousands of people in a mosque, I am put in mind not of a gathering at St. Peter's, but rather, of a Nuremberg Rally, a horizontal collective affair, rather than vertical, with the prostration itself performing, or signifying, blind obedience of the kind that, at the real Nuremberg, is signified by the heil-hitlering salute of thousands, yelling in unison, and saluting, and re-saluting." [Spencer refused to repudiate those statements.]
...One then right-wing critic wrote of Spencer's blog: "His website has descended into a true hate site at this point, dominated by extreme, bigoted commenters who regularly advocate genocide and mass murder of Muslims." [That writer has since broken with the far-right, in part because of pervasive anti-Islam bigotry its proponents often exhibit.]
That is all, of course, referring to the execrable libelblogger Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, who today has won a new distinction: he is now the tool so debased, so universally distrusted and despised that even Hamas-linked CAIR won't name him.
In 2007, Spencer spoke at a so-called "Counterjihad Brussels" conference in Belgium attended by those with links to far-right parties such as Filip Dewinter of Vlaams Belang (Belgium) and Ted Ekeroth of Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden). Both parties have been accused of either having a racist platform, a neo-Nazi past or having links to neo-Nazis and other racists.
They have been "accused." An accusation is not the same thing as a fact. The libelblogger Johnson has spread a great deal of second-hand misinformation and disinformation about these groups, but in any case the fundamental question is this: the Counterjihad Summit featured speakers such as Israeli Knesset member Aryeh Eldad; the great historian Bat Ye'or; the great scholar of jihad Patrick Sookhdeo and others. There was nothing remotely racist or neo-Nazi about it. Even if these parties are all that Johnson claims they are (and given his record of lies and distortions I'm more inclined to believe that the opposite of anything he says is true), that in no way obliges me to answer for them or makes me responsible for them in any way. I've spoken at a lot of events, with a lot of other speakers, and I am no more responsible for the totality of their views as they are for mine. I once spoke at the same event as Hillary Clinton; does that make her an "Islamophobe"?
"The bus ads are part of a growing 'Islamophobia machine' nationwide that must be challenged by Americans of all faiths," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.
This one really made me laugh. CAIR is a well-heeled money machine with funding from the Saudis. Pamela Geller and I are two American citizens with no major donors, no rich backers -- nothing but the truth on our side. And that's why CAIR is so afraid of us.
He noted that CAIR has long held that religious decisions should be matters of personal choice, not a cause for state intervention. According to CAIR's position statement on Islam and apostasy: "Faith imposed by force is not true belief, but coercion. Islam has no need to compel belief in its divine truth."

While CAIR claims publicly that they support the freedom of people to leave Islam freely, these public claims, the ones I've read, have various loopholes and limitations. For example, I've never read them make a statement such as
"While we at CAIR believe in Islam and want others to believe in Islam, at the same time we support the right of all people who were at one time Muslim to reject and leave Islam publicly, and to explain publicly and candidly the reasons why they rejected and left Islam. We believe that such people who leave Islam publicly and who explain that decision publicly should face no prejudice or penalty of any kind, whatsoever."

I haven't seen any statements along these lines from CAIR. Instead, their approach to the apostasy issue is to flip into public-relations damage control mode whenever an apostasy-related incident reaches the mainstream media, and to flip into a kind of propagandistic fighting mode against anyone who suggests that Islam has within it a major mainstream tradition of punishing apostates. CAIR's policy is to protect Islam first, and to hell with apostates (literally).

At this point, I believe the majority of Americans believe the way we do. The problem is people don’t know what to do. Your comment section is a great place for people to vent their feelings. But obviously our Government officials don’t want to look or hear about your website. They will be gunning to shut down your website next. No disrespect is meant if you have already told the readers this. I am relatively new to your website and the cause. But I have been frustrated for years by the injustice of reporting by mainstream media and being PC.

When you report a story, add at the end -who we can email or call if we are displeased with a news services reporting or lack of reporting. How about a goal of sending 10,000 emails and make 10,000 phone calls for each injustice we see. Our greatest chance for success is to get people involved. We are protesting peacefully. This is good to see. I have been fooling around with this same approach, but with a reversed word order:
Mislamic from miso + Islam (this does not seem explicit enough though, as it merely adds an "m" in front of "Islam")
Miso-slamic seems better, more obviously a different word.
One variation that I REALLY like is this:
Mislamthrope = miso + Islam + anthrop = despise + Islam + people. The problem is that I want to convey a hatred of Islam but not necessarily of Muslims (recall that many Muslims, esp female Muslims, are among Islam's greatest victims).
That said, I like the way "mislamthrope" sounds and it rolls off the tongue so effortlessly and is pretty well understood.

Generally when a fatwa is issued by an Islamic authority, they don't publish it in the newspaper...But such fatwa's exist just the same...The ad does not say anyone has a fatwa, it asks if the reader has one...Wait until the buses are up and running for a few months and then ask that question...I'm sure there will be many examples...

A beautiful sentiment. Really though, were the Black Stone obliterated (and Mohammed's tomb too), wouldn't this convey to untold millions of Muslims that their faith is a fraud? The fatwa you linked to wasn't issued in America, and isn't targeted at an American, which is what I'm asking for.
There's no need to produce the actual document. Even one credible report of a fatwa against an American would suffice. The fact that you can't produce one speaks volumes.
Why ask "Fatwa on your head?" when you don't have credible information that even one fatwa has been issued against an American. It's exaggerating, and CAIR is right to say that they don't do that in America.
By the way, I do support the ad, and I detest CAIR. I just think you should cut out the exaggeration.

See "Question Everything"'s post, and I can think of a few well-known apostates, off the top of my head, who have been targeted with death threats in fatwas, such as...Wafa Sultan, Ali Sina, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Salman Rushdie...most or all of these apostates are living in the U.S. or have lived in the U.S. recently. [See Former Muslims United, ApostatesofIslam, Faithfreedom, and other such sites for further examples]
As for other penalties, see CAIR's legal jihad against, and character assassination of, Rifqa Bary, and partisan favoring of the Bary parents (Muslims) against Rifqa (an apostate). In addition, Rifqa has received death threats on the internet, in addition to the threats she claims to have received from her parents (father is alleged to have threatened to kill her, mother is alleged to have threatened to take her back to Sri Lanka). CAIR has a practice of launching propaganda campaigns public critics of Islam, including but not limited to apostates.
However, I do agree that "Got a fatwa on your head?" is a bit of an exaggeration and is perhaps not relevant to the people whom the bus ad seems to target. That is, if the RefugefromIslam website offers answers to questions about leaving Islam, presumably the apostates or soon-to-be apostates who would benefit from this website would be at a stage where they are not very knowledgeable about the issues involved in declaring their change in religious belief/affiliation. (I doubt that there are many apostates/would-be apostates who are that naive, though, because it is more likely that most people who grow up in a Muslim community already know that some Muslims will react very angrily to the apostasy, and may make threats, carry out violence, pass on information to Islamic authorities, etc.) But the fatwas that are directed at targeting individual apostates tend to be directed toward well-known people who've gone public with their apostasy and (in doing so) have criticized or "insulted" Islam. These public apostates, in their knowledge of the issue, would generally already be well beyond the stage where they would learn much in the way of new information by contacting the RefugefromIslam website. I'm not even sure what the RefugefromIslam website offers by way of information or service to those who want to leave Islam. (I see it, and the bus ad, more as a means of raising public awareness about the problems apostates face). In any case, an apostate who goes public and then has a fatwa issued against him or her, calling for his or her death, should be contacting the police, the intelligence agencies, etc., before writing to any website.
That said, given that some Muslims do issue fatwas against apostates, including fatwas of a general nature against any public apostates, the ad is realistic in this respect.
Besides formally written and publicized fatwas, there are also, of course, various informal threats made by some Muslims against apostates, up to and including death threats. Noor Nishan is another American former Muslim who has now made her apostasy public, and she reports that she was threatened. [See Former Muslims United]. There are also reports of apostates, in the JihadWatch archives, who've been threatened in the U.S. There are examples of U.S. Islamic leaders and scholars who've endorsed the death penalty for apostasy.
The ad is also realistic and representative in asking if apostates or would-be apostates are being pressured by their family or community. This seems likely to be a common experience for many, if not most, apostates and would-be apostates. Indeed, it is difficult to assess what percentage of the nominally "Muslim" population is comprised of believing Muslims, versus those who have, privately, lost their faith but fear making this public due to the presence of some Muslims who will threaten and "retaliate" against the apostate.
All in all, I think the ad does a good job of raising awareness about the apostasy issue. No reasonable individual who supports the mainstream modern western notion of freedom of expression, which includes freedom to criticize religions and to draw attention to the problems in religions, would be offended by its contents; no would such reasonable individuals try to have the ad banned or removed. On the contrary, reasonable individuals who support mainstream modern western notions of freedom of expression that include the freedom to draw public attention to the problems in a religion should be supporting the ad and asking that it be put back up on the buses.
In a way, the bus ad can be thought of as a kind of a test: Those who want sharia restrictions on expression and restrictions on the ability to change religions will oppose the ad. Those who don't want those sharia restrictions will find no significant reason to have the bus ads removed. (This is, of course, aside from broader arguments some people might make about having no ads of any kind on public transit, etc., or no religion-related ads generally, etc.)

That said, the bus ad doesn't say where the fatwa was issued. Since the Rushdie affair at least, public critics and public apostates can be targeted by fatwas issued overseas. In this context, to require that the fatwa was actually written and issued in the U.S. seems peculiar and arbitrary, and not relevant to this ad.
