Also, while I do very much agree that this was not "racist" as such—since, as is often pointed out, Islam is not a race—nonetheless, similar threatening graffiti, if scrawled on a mosque, *would certainly be branded "racist"*.

And how can "Islam will dominate the world" *not* be religiously motivated? Of course it is—the judge means that saying so is apparently not politically correct in today's Britain.

Yes, of course. It doesn't mean a thing. He might just as easily have written "Arsenal Rule" or "My daughter was Honor Student of the Week" or "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should." He happened to write the first thing that came into his head: "Islam will dominate the world -- Osama is on his way." Let's not be so quick to endow this with meaning.

Well, now, I think that does it. It's time for a full emegency evacuation of the UK. Anyone NOT determined to laugh in the face of logic and justice you'll have to back it up, because its clear things are only going to get worse in the rain-swept isles. I hear Quebec is nice this time of year. And at least over there they seem to have a pair on 'em.

The CPS said Shah's offence could not be charged as a hate crime because the law requires that damage must target a particular religious or racial group.

(That's right! Rembember: we had another judgement last week that said the grey mass of unbelievers is not a "particular religious or racial group", but if you say the same thing about Muslims, you go in the can because THEY ARE a particular religious or racial group.)

It said: 'While it was appreciated that what was sprayed on the memorial may have been perceived by some to be part of a racial or religious incident, no racial or religious group can be shown to have been targeted.'

It seems that Islam is classified as a "race" or a "religion" when it suits Muslims, but otherwise it escapes such classification and becomes vaguely, innocuously "political" - yet Muslims can't be seen as seditious. Except when they plan to kill, and even then the British are confused...
(I'm not trying to pick on the British here, just that this story is about Britain.)

ROYAL British Legion boss says vandals have “dishonoured those who have given their lives for our country” by defacing Burtonʼs war memorial.

Roy Whenman, vice-chairman of the town’s Legion branch, received calls from members saying an extremist message had been written on the statue. Having been informed at 9.20am, borough council chiefs had cleaned the graffiti from the relic, situated outside Burton College, in Lichfield Street, by 9.40am.

Mr Whenman, of Birches Close, Stretton, has described whoever committed the offence as “diabolical”.

He said: “There’s nothing worse, in my eyes, than discrediting a war memorial. It dishonours those who have given their lives for our country.

“I don’t know how long it was there for, but I was pleasantly surprised by the council’s quick action and I commend them for it.

“What I would say to them is there are other ways of expressing your anger about certain issues.”

Dennis Fletcher, chairman of East Staffordshire Racial Equality Council, said he suspected someone from the far right was responsible.

He said: “My reaction is one of horror. Just two nights ago at our general committee meeting we were talking about the harmony between communities in the borough.

“I suspect members of the far right have done this to stir things up and there are generally very good inter-cultural relations in East Staffordshire.

“Graffiti of any type is terrible but when it includes racist material it has to be considered utterly unacceptable.”

An East Staffordshire Borough Council spokesman said: “We would say that this vandalism is deplorable and we do our best to clean such graffiti as soon as we possibly can.”

No. Islam is not a race. Religiously motivated? Yes, and very obviously so. But craven fear drives authorities to outdo Orwell himself, and sweep this affair under the rug as being merely "political" in nature.

This editorial remark by Spencer provides a good "teaching moment" for his readers who for too long have indulged the "Islam is not a religion" mantra, as though they are incapable of patting their heads and rubbing their stomachs at the same time. Obviously, Islam is both a religion and a political, or geopolitical, ideology. And if by "political" we include society, culture and laws, we will not fail to imply its totalitarian nature -- though it never hurts to add the descriptor "totalitarian" whenever possible in discussing the characteristics of Islam.
