Police investigating connection to South Park in Times Square bomb attempt

Could be Motoon Rage. "Times Square car bomb: police investigate South Park link," by Nick Allen and Gordon Rayner for the Telegraph, May 2 (thanks to Blogger):

Police in New York are investigating whether a car bomb in Times Square was targeted at the makers of South Park over a controversial depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

Whose prophet?

The device, which failed to detonate, was left near the offices of Viacom, which owns the irreverent cartoon series.

Last month postings on an Islamic website warned the creators of South Park - Matt Stone and Trey Parker - that they could face violent reprisals after an episode of the show featured Mohammed in a bear suit.

A posting on the website of a US-based group called Revolution Muslim warned Stone and Parker that they would "probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh", the Dutch film-maker who was murdered in 2004 by a Muslim angered by his film about Muslim women.

Images of the Prophet are strictly forbidden in Islam, and Comedy Central, which broadcasts South Park, has banned Stone and Parker from depicting Mohammed in the past. In 2006 the network stopped them from featuring Mohammed in an episode which followed worldwide protests over a caricature of the Prophet by a Danish cartoonist.

Detectives are also understood to be investigating striking similarities between the New York bomb and two car bombs planted by Islamic terrorists outside the Tiger Tiger nightclub in London in 2007.

In both cases, the devices comprised cylinders of propane gas and cans full of petrol intended to be ignited by electronic detonators.

David Paterson, the Governor of New York, described the Times Square incident as an "act of terrorism." He said: "Luckily, no one is hurt, and now the full attention of city, state and federal law enforcement will be turned to bringing the guilty party to justice in this act of terrorism."...

I know this will not get wide support but I still say that if the entire Ummah had to fear indescriminant reprisals every time they pulled one of these stunts there would be fewer of them. Bullies rarely stop being bullies until they get their asses kicked up between their shoulders.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes to identify the bomber. If it turns out to be someone from an American fringe group, Janet and Obama will surely trumpet it loudly and the announcement would be immediate. If it turns out to be jihad-inspired, there will be a delay because it will take some time to coerce the announcement into a politically correct form that complies with the new guidelines that prevent mention of anything that might connect the incident to Islam, and distribute the approved press releases to the MSM.

Terror in Times Square: Pakistani Taliban claim responsibility as police defuse 'crude but lethal' car bomb in heart of New York

The Pakistani Taliban have claimed they were behind a terrorist plot to detonate a car bomb in Times Square and kill thousands today.

The plot failed when the device miraculously failed to ignite.

But a second device found in Pittsburgh today is keeping America jittery amid fears about terror striking in the heart of America.

Police said they found the explosive device near the course of the Pittsburgh Marathon, forcing them to detour the final part of the race.

Totally agree with no jizya. That's the only language these green slimes understand. No amount of appeasement and PC talk will have any effect on their evil behaviour.

hmmmm, I could see the Pakistan Taliban taking credit if the bomb had actually detonated successfully, whether or not they did or didn't have a hand in it. Since it was found and rendered useless what is the reasoning behind taking credit? Is it to let us know their reach is long? (Or they wish it was?)

Yousef al-Khattab, who runs the RevolutionMuslim website, should really be made to feel the heat even more now. He should be investigated for any possible links to these terror plots, and he should also be prosecuted for making thinly veiled death threats, even if the prosecution can't succeed.

How many hundreds of failed attempts happens before these morons get one right? Lucky for us in a way.

Eric Cartman hu Akbar! Cheezypoofs be upon him!

The Pakistani taliban have claimed responsibility for this attempted attack in a video just released. What will CAIR-NYC have to say about this? And I wonder what mosque this plot will eventually be traced to.

So some celebrities were put in harms way? Oh my, what will the Hollywood crowd do if some of their own get martyred in the name of jihad? Maybe multiculturism and PC wouldn't be as cool anymore.

no jizya, you have my support, FWIW.

The reason that this has continued so long is that there hasn't be a Crusade style smack-down of the people responsible.

I really don't care that there may be 1.2 Billion moslems, they are the enemy. They have declared war on non-believers and it's the height of suicidal stupidity to deny this.

Trying to win hearts and minds just helps perpetuate the nonsense, it needs to treated like any virus or disease.

Pakistani Taliban say "We did it", NY Police say "No, you didn't".

Next up: CAIR and various islamic groups 'fear reprisals'.

In this sort of situation, while the identity of the terrorists has not yet been determined, or even alleged, by authorities, we need statistics. We need to be able to cite statistics, for example, on the percentage of all terrorist attacks that have been carried out by Muslims, say, in the past ten or twenty years. What percentage of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil were carried out by Muslim agents acting in the name of Islam or some alleged Muslim grievance or cause? What percentage of terrorist attacks intended to kill (and/or injure severely) civilians were carried out by Muslims?

The probability that this would-be lethal car bomb was set by a Muslim can be predicted to some degree of confidence on the basis of multiple relevant pieces of information, including summary data, such as the percentage of lethal (or would-be lethal) terrorist attacks against non-Muslims on U.S. soil. It would also be useful to know the world-wide statistics.

Does anyone happen to know where I could find such statistics?

-------------

I recently read an article at the polemical site Loonwatch (which makes ad homimen attacks on well-known non-Muslim critics of Islam), which cited figures from a FBI website indicating that only 6% of terrorist attacks carried out on U.S. soil were by Muslim agents. The time frame of the sample of terrorist attacks was from 1980 to 2005. Included were all types of terrorist attacks, not just those intended to kill or severely injure people. Those stats, at least as presented, are not very informative, because (a) the Muslim population and presence in the U.S. has been very small for most of that time period; (b) the subsample of most interest for the comparison between Muslims and others is not all terrorist attacks but all those intended to kill or severely injure people—and this was not reported; and (c) the most important information—the number of people killed or severely injured—was not reported, nor was the percentage of the total killed or injured by Muslim terrorists (as compared to other kinds of terrorists) reported. The same Loonwatch article did not include statistics on terrorist attacks since 2005. Why not?

In regards to the percentage of people killed in terrorist attacks (in the U.S.) who were killed by Muslim terrorists, I suspect that the majority were killed on one day, 9/11. If this is correct, then between 1980 and 2005, Muslim terrorists have killed more people on U.S. soil than have been killed by all other kinds of terrorists combined.

But even taking Loonwatch’s presentation at face value, note also that the U.S. Muslim population is estimated to be anywhere between about 0.4% to 2.2% of the total population. (The high estimate in the range above, BTW, is from CAIR. PEW put the percentage at slightly less than 1% in 2007). Whatever that percentage is now, it was probably smaller for most of the 1980s and 1990s. Anyways, based on current estimates of the percentage of Muslims in the U.S., the percentage of terrorist attacks that were carried out by Islamic agents in the U.S. between 1980 and 2005, which is alleged to be 6%, is between about 3 and 15 times higher than would be expected based on (a) the null hypothesis that terrorist attacks in the U.S. are no more likely to be carried out by Muslims than by others, and (b) the current estimated percentage of Muslims in the U.S. population.

Jebat - CAIR will give the standard response, if they give one at all, which will be that perps are " Misunderstanders of Islam ".

I just heard the POTUS on TV saying a few words in Louisiana after his visit to the oil rig explosion site. Never once he mentioned the word terrorism, just "a potentially deadly situation". Amazing he can't see terrorism even when terrorism stares in our face!!!

If anything good comes out of this it will be the prosecution of the creators of the Revolution Muslim site for inciting to or encouraging someone to commit this crime. May they be kept 'busy' for a very long time... But, like mr. Spencer often says: I'm not holding my breath...

"Amazing he can't see terrorism even when terrorism stares in our face!!!"

Hello - Hussein is a Muslim. He refuses to see. We have a Muslim as a president.

"Hello - Hussein is a Muslim. He refuses to see. We have a Muslim as a president."

You know it and I know it - but the Americans in general don't know it or ignore it!!!

Law enforcement authorities have dismissed the claim that this failed act of terrorism was the work of the Taliban. Authorities aver that the act has not yet been established to have been committed by any known organization or group. In other words, while law enforcement implicitly acknowledges that this was a probable act of jihad terror, it cannot be ascertained that it was the work of any known Muslim group. But this is untrue, if in fact (as seems very likely) Muslims are the perpetrators. The group involved, although this clearly eludes the authorities, is the Umma al-Islamiyya. As always.

typo "ad homimen attacks," should read "ad hominem attacks"

Newscaster "Don Lemon" http://twitter.com/donlemoncnn on CNN today said on air that the cause of the attack was possibly due to a "certain nasty kid cartoon character". He actually blamed the victim!!!

Yes and remember we are not at war. We are just in a clean up situation from a previous administration. We were never at war with Islam. This idiot of a president has a rose colored brain and knows the enemy is us. More specifically white wealthy, successful independent business men who make way to much money.

I just hope someone calls a spade a spade when the truth about who is behind this is conclusively known.

"...and he should also be prosecuted for making thinly veiled death threats, even if the prosecution can't succeed."

Agreed, Traeh! ...even thinly veiled death threats should come at a VERY high price to the one making it.

Anything President Obama does and anything he condones is
I believe a calculated act to weaken the United States in every way he can. He listened with no indignation when a rabidly anti-american black liberation theologist and his cronies damned America from the pulpit to joyous agreement
from his congregation. He has meant us harm from day one.
He will continue to turn a blind eye to anything which
the Ummah does as will the advisors and czars with whom he
surrounds himself. He will appoint only Those jurists who knowingly legislate from the bench in the superior courts and on the supreme court. God help America and her people.
