(Reuters) - One woman was killed and five others injured when a bomb exploded on a train station platform in the southern Russian region of Dagestan Friday, local officials said.
A spokesman for the local transport police said the blast was caused by a bomb planted in a rubbish bin on the platform of a train station in the town of Derbent.
"The blast hit the platform as people boarded a commuter train," the spokesman said, adding that three police and three civilians were wounded by the blast.
One woman later died of her injuries, said a spokeswoman for Derbent hospital.
Russian police are on alert for possible attacks ahead of Sunday's celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War Two.
Insurgents from neighboring Chechnya have in the past launched attacks on Victory Day, a holiday associated with the mass deportation of ethnic Chechens by Soviet leader Josef Stalin during the war.
Dagestan, Chechnya and neighboring Ingushetia are at the center of an Islamist insurgency aimed at establishing an independent Islamic state.
That last paragraph is a major improvement over the Associated Press' account (thanks to Dumbledoresarmy for noting this), which explains: "Regarded as Russia's most ethnically diverse republic, Dagestan lies between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea. In recent years, it has been roiled by almost daily violence sometimes blamed on interethnic struggle."

I wear of being told how lovely everyone gets along in that region..all in love with their Mountain Jews, etc. etc. Every place that allows Islam to infect more than 5% of the population dooms that population.

While muslims were blowing up hapless commuters and threatening their neighbors and other nations.......motorcyclists, cowboys, professional bullriders and rodeo clowns came from all over the US to help with a breast cancer fund raiser called "Ride For The Rack". Bull owners provided top quality rodeo bulls and transported them to the arena at their own expense. Many of these tough, fearless men wore pink shirts for the occasion even though they'd probably never be caught dead in pink clothes under any other circumstances.
While muslims were stating that waging jihad places them in a very pleasant state of mind.......mail carriers all over the US quietly collected millions of pounds of food today that was donated by generous postal customers and will stock local food banks all across the country.
While muslims were slaughtering hospital staff and threatening Doctors Without Borders.....untold thousands of Infidels donated blood and lifesaving organs or tissues to total strangers.

I observe that this murderous jihadi bombing occurred on a *Friday*.
That is, it was carried out on the Muslim 'holy' day.
I wonder whether a statistically significant percentage of serious jihad attacks and cases of Sudden Jihad Syndrome, take place on Fridays (especially in the evenings, after the main Friday evening hate session) as opposed to any other day of the week?

Who said the Muslims want to be apart?...They want it all...Chechnya and Russia....
Russia's present is showing us America's future...
At some point dar al-harb and all it's kufr residents, are going to have to become serious about Islamic hegemony...
Of course I see the despicable nature of the Islamic goal of worldwide hegemony and I am firmly on the Russian side.
But for some time now in me brews the idea that yes, that southern part of the Caucasus; Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia and maybe a few other parts .... do not really or should not belong to the already vast Russian Federation.
(In contrast to Islamic Tatarstan, right in the heart of it).
When the Soviet Union fell apart, South Caucasus should have been ditched too. Just look at the map, how an illogical appendix it really is to Russia. Look at History, how only in the 19th centary the Czar's army conquered this largely Islamic region with much violence.
I cherish the big fantasy of eventually a Russia inside the EU, creating a vast (Democratic) EURASIA from Gibraltar to Wladiwostok, with capital Moscow, a long way further in 21st century. And south Caucasus should not be in it, it seems to me.
