We know now that the car bomb in Times Square was an attempted Islamic jihad attack. But the mainstream media, following its usual pattern, is once again denying, minimizing, or obfuscating this fact.Writing in The Nation on Monday, Robert Dreyfuss epitomized the mainstream media's hope that the car bomber would turn out to be a right-wing extremist: "It may be that the Pakistan-based Taliban, the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has quietly established a Connecticut franchise while we weren't looking. That's possible. But it seems far more likely to me that the perpetrator of the bungled Times Square bomb plot was either a lone wolf or a member of some squirrely branch of the Tea Party, anti-government far right. Which actually exists in Connecticut, where, it seems, the car's licence plates were stolen."
In reality, according to Pakistani authorities, Faisal Shahzad, the would-be car bomber, attended a jihad training camp in that country. He spent five months in Pakistan recently, including some time in Peshawar, a center of Al-Qaeda and Taliban activity. A Pakistani Taliban group claimed responsibility for the attack -- a claim that American authorities immediately dismissed, but which gained a new claim to serious consideration when Shahzad's Pakistani connections were revealed.
Shahzad parked his explosives-laden SUV outside the offices of Viacom, the parent company of Comedy Central, which presents South Park, the cartoon whose creators were just threatened with death by Islamic supremacists in New York for daring to lampoon Muhammad. The Muslim group that issued the threat, Revolution Muslim, was proselytizing in Times Square just hours before Shahzad's car bomb was discovered.
Yet for all this, virtually no media reports are saying anything about Shahzad being a Muslim. Such a reference, however, would hardly be gratuitous: Islamic jihad theology and the death penalty enshrined in Islamic law for anyone who insults Allah or Muhammad are the most likely keys to Shahzad's motivation. But the politically correct, multiculturalist imperative demands that Islam and Muslims, being (at least in this addled view) non-white and non-Western, must always be portrayed as victims, no matter how imaginative the lengths to which analysts must go in order to find something, anything, to blame for the carnage other than Islam's doctrines of hatred of and violence against unbelievers.
Ezra Klein in the Washington Post led the way in the imaginative department. Observing that Shahzad defaulted on the mortgage on his home in Connecticut and that the property is now in foreclosure, Klein discovered a hitherto-unnoticed motivation for violent jihad: "foreclosures generate an enormous amount of misery and anxiety and depression that can tip people into all sorts of dangerous behaviors that don't make headlines but do ruin lives. And for all that we've done to save the financial sector, we've not done nearly enough to help struggling homeowners." Help struggling homeowners, or they'll try to set off car bombs in Times Square!...

Interesting theory Ezra Klein put forward.
The number of foreclosures in 2009 was 3,957,643 or about the same as the number of Muslims in the US. So there is some connection between Jihadist terror and foreclosure - but not the one hypothesized.
According to my theory we will see an increase in Jihadist terror attacks as the number of foreclosures goes down and the Muslim population goes up. ;-)

Yeah, this is the result of somebody being foreclosed on. How many attempted bomb attacks were perpetrated by the thousands upon thousands of non-Muslims who were foreclosed on within the last couple of years?

What I don't get is this: why would he say such a thing?? First I thought: the man must be a fool or a knave -- ie, he must either not know (about Islam and it propensity for evil), or he knows about Islam and he doesn't say. But then still, why say anything? Did he have *absolutely no clue*?? Did he not have a glimmer of a thought -- in his private pad, as he shaved in the morning, all on his own, with noone looking -- did he not have just the teensiest thought that it might be, just might be, someone connected with Islam who did this? In which case, why not just keep quiet? But to go out on a limb with that bit on inanity just seems weird.
In the end I conclude simply that he's a fool. Made a buncha money, sure, but still a fool.

Such stupid explanations for jihadi attacks seems to have become fashionable.
Sometimes it is poverty,sometimes it is personal problems,sometimes it is underwear problems,sometimes it is Teddy bear problems and now its mortgage problems.
I fear that Contessa Brewer might be in trouble now. She DID hint that this was not the first time, and that there were reasons - or circumstances, or misunderstandings - that might cause muslims to be frowned upon, eventually maybe.
This is a major problem of Westerner's mindset... He/she is so imprisoned towards a particular worldviewing direction that has been blinded even as to imagine the possibility of existence of totally different kind world perceptions. When the Westerner hears about Islam the only thing that imagines is nothing more than a narrow variety of the secular worldview. He/she is blinded almost totally against the fact that there can exist such a thing as Jihad. It is something out of his/her perception. So the only thing that he/she can think in such situations is 'they are doing this because they are poor and, so, unable to participate in our consumerist paradise' (the only reality the Westerner has nowadays, somehow)...
Even in South Eastern European countries, which are less secularized then the Far North Western countries (and USA, of course) this 'virus' of blinding monolithic worldview has been established enough to do people think for Islamist terrorism that it happens because of poverty.
Unfortunately our secularist, consumerist mindset is established in our societies as a sunglass glued to our eyes making us perceiving the world in its color and by time believing that this is the real color of the world.
The first thing that we have to do, in a most urgent way, is to realize that it is nothing other than a sunglass... that it is not our own eyes' original view. This is the most needed thing of present times. We got out of 'religion centered' (theocratic... by a false characterization) societies and we became immersed in a new kind of 'belief society' that of 'consumerocratism', which everything is analyzed solely by financial means. Something that renders impossible to understand a phenomenon like Jihad.
We have to get out in the same way, somehow, a Shaman goes out of his own body to be a bird, from our own worldview to understand Jihad. Otherwise will be too late. We will need, maybe, to go through a tremendous catastrophe to survive. The final victory will be in the side of concience freedom at last, surely (this is in the nature of human being) but... the amount of bill needed for such a victory is very uncertain, really. If the European countries could see where Germany was heeding the years before WW2 there would be no need to go through such a devastating war most possibly. It is something to recollect on as soon as possible.

The Constitution and the Times Square Car Bomber
Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square Car Bombing suspect, has been caught and will predictably enough be routed through all the formal legalities reserved for Islamic terrorists trying to kill Americans. He will get a criminal trial, a lawyer and a jail sentence after which he, like so many of his compatriots will be released to try and kill again. And quite possibly sooner than anyone might think.
Meanwhile on FOX, Glenn Beck protested the idea of denying a Miranda Warning to Shahzad because he is a US citizen and "you don't shred the constitution." Obviously Beck isn't very familiar with the Constitution, because at no point in time does it mandate a Miranda warning, or compel civil trials for armed insurgents. Instead Beck has confused the Miranda Warning, one of the Warren court's judicial innovations with the Constitution. This is a mistake commonly made by liberals and those who have not educated themselves regarding what the Constitution actually says.

I just wonder how many Muslims took the oath of allegiance to the US when granted citizenship, but actually are aiding, or taking part in war/Jihad against the USA. AMAZINGLY, this is the headline of the AP story this morning: "NY car bomb suspect cooperates, but motive mystery"
The story goes on to say, several paragraphs down, that "A court hearing was canceled Tuesday in part because of Shahzad's continuing cooperation with investigators, but authorities said they had shed little light on what might have motivated him.
Until recently, his life in the U.S. appeared enviable. He had a master's degree from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, a job as a budget analyst for a marketing firm in Norwalk, Conn., two children and a well-educated wife who posted his smiling picture and lovingly called him "my everything" on a social networking website.
But shortly after becoming a U.S. citizen a year ago, he gave up his job, stopped paying his mortgage and told a real estate agent to let the bank take the house because he was returning to Pakistan.
Once there, according to investigators, he traveled to the lawless Waziristan region and learned bomb making at a terrorist training camp.
In court papers, investigators said Shahzad returned to the U.S. on Feb. 3, moved into an apartment in a low-rent section of Bridgeport, then set about acquiring materials and an SUV he bought with cash in late April. They said that after his arrest, Shahzad confessed to rigging the bomb and driving it into Times Square. He also acknowledged getting training in Pakistan, the filing said."

He didn't LOSE his job and then go into default on his mortgage. He consciously chose to GIVE UP HIS JOB, VOLUNTARILY AND INTENTIONALLY stop paying his mortgage, and RETURN TO PAKISTAN. Why then did he return to the US at all, and where did he get the cash to buy the car? He must have really been motivated. What could his motivation have been? /sarcasm.

BTW 6 "British residents" - not even citizens - are currently suing the British Government over their treatment in Gitmo and elsewhere. The case is being financially supported by the usual civil liberties crowd AND the BBC! I am beginning to entertain notions of left-wing conspiracies, as ridiculous as that might have seemed to me previously, from the pattern of 1)Initial forthright denial of obvious motive for jihadi attacks on US soil, followed by 2) Quiet acquiencence to the jihadi nature of the attack several weeks after the event has taken place and is out of the news. Is someone orchestrating this or are journalists all so paralyzed by political correctness that they can't state the obvious? Or are they afraid of Muslim vengeance? This pattern notwithstanding, for the AP article to state today that the motive for the Times Square attack is a "mystery" is nevertheless breaktaking in its absurdity - we are achieving new heights of pc madness.
Even if your own media and commentators won't call it the Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi will: "This is a blow back. This is a reaction. This is retaliation," he said. "Let's not be naive. They're not going to sort of sit and welcome you to eliminate them. They're going to fight back. And we have to be ready for this fight."

There is little doubt that the failed Times Square bomber was a (Pakistan) Taliban agent of some sort - whether an activated sleeper or more recently recruited is yet to be discovered. The key will be when he was radicalised - he came from a well to-do family (his dad was a senior military officer) unassociated with fundamentalist Islam. So the question is - when did Shazad become radicalised? At some point before he trained in TTP's Waziristan stronghold.
Killing these bastards is the only way as they will try again and again to kill you - as we know its part of their religious credo to do so. Targeted assassination by remote control (i.e. drone) in the wild environment of NWF Pakistan can be imprecise. It missed Haikimullah Mehsud (though one did get his dad, the former head of TTP) who has unsurprisingly sprung up from hiding and vowed revenge!
The first revenge (for his father Baitimullah Mehsud's death-by-drone) was the successful attack which took out the CIA station in Khost - from where Mehsud believed the drone attack that killed his father was directed. This latest attempt in Times Square was for the drone attack on him earlier this year.
It will not stop there. Mehsud has mentioned that he has other sources available to him to conduct further attacks. Even if this is bluster they way Shazad was recruited, trained and launched may well be indicative of other TTP plans to hit back against the US.
This should all be reflected in US media reports on it - not the pussy-footing around the fact this attack (like the 11 others in NYC thwarted since 9/11) was conducted by a Muslim extremist - Islamic terrorist if you will - not by any other type of terrorist or extremist nut-job.
Shazad was well-educated and successful (up until he pulled the pin) - positively wealthy by Pakistan standards. The common factor with all other terrorist suspects is his religion - Islam.
If you cannot put a name to your enemy how on earth can you defend yourself against them?
Just to recap the attacks by Muslims that the press has actually covered: The Beltway Snipers, 9-11, Bali, 93 World Trade Center Bombing, Israeli Cultural Center in Seattle,shooting at mall in Salt Lake City, Charlotte NC, attempted car bombing of airport in UK, capture of 29 Chechens Muslims sneaking into Arizona(probably just hiking), murder of army servicemen in Arkansas, Ft. Hood Massacre, Underwear bomber, and now the Times Square bomber. Honor killings in limited numbers in the US but growing and who knows what the real totals are overseas. Why are they trying kill us? Because we are not converting to Islam! Given the looseness in which the term racist is thrown around by PC goon squads it is certainly odd that this blatant act of racism is terminally ignored.
If a nation of ideologically bound individuals attacks, bombs, shoots and will not stop until the enemy is dead then could someone please explain to me how we are not at war? And if overwhelmingly the guys initiating the attacks are Muslim is the only reason we are saying we are not at war with Islam is because we now refuse to fight back?
Contessa and Dreyfuss deserve each other. Hoping to make an enemy out of Conservative Constitutionalists when we have a defined enemy who is now pretty much attacking at will is the height of idiocy. Hoping for an attack by a non-Muslim to preserve the illusion of "the religion of peace" while demonizing conservatives by comparing them to jihadists? Really?
I think its time for Dreyfuss to go and hang out in Yemen or Iran or Syria and take the Contessa with him. Maybe check in with those swell guys from Hezbollah and Hamas and see how they are doing. Bet its a great visit.
