Plans to build an £18million mosque in Dudley town centre have been scrapped, the Express & Star can reveal today.The scheme to build a mosque with 65ft minaret on derelict land in Hall Street attracted huge protests, but has now been ditched by the Dudley Muslim Association.
Deputy council leader, Les Jones, told the Express & Star today the DMA had agreed instead to redevelop the existing mosque in Castle Hill, after months of delicate negotiations.
The proposal has been dogged by controversy from day one and two petitions of more than 50,000 signatures were gathered in opposition.
People objected saying the mosque would dominate the skyline and be out of keeping with the town's medieval character. They also objected to the mosque being built on land designated for employment use.
Despite Dudley Council throwing out the application in 2007 it was granted at an appeal the following year by a government inspector.
In 2009 the council launched a High Court bid against the inspector's decision but the judge upheld the ruling, granting outline planning permission....
Today's announcement comes as a handful of anti-mosque campaigners scaled the walls of the derelict factory in Hall Street for a rooftop protest....

.....there is virtually no news here in the UK re the Dudley mosque demo...........its always the same.......anything to do with Muslims being shown in unfavourable terms is blocked by the UK media hierarchy....I am sick of the supremacist stench of Islam and the anti- English bigots that have power in this country......

At the linked article, comment number 20 points out the decision to scrap these plans today is suspect due to the May Day Bank holiday and the council offices are closed.
Mosques are not churches. They are ammo dumps, terrorism nodes, safe houses and even torture chambers. Would you let the Nazi Party build an "information center" in every major city?

Latest news from Dudley, armed police have stormed the rooftop to bring the demo to an end, we've had muslims protesting in the streets, calling for violence & the overthrow of our government & the police not only allowed them to go about their protest but protected them!

Not much on the MSM but reports suggest the police are dragging the EDL off the roof and charging them with criminal damage. If so it is probably because "our Asians citizens" are reported to be attacking non-muslims in the streets and gearing up to riot.
The "anti-fascists" and lefties blogs are calling the EDL "racists" as usual.

The Daily Main article is carefully biased: It reports past violence by EDL people (breaking down the fence they were penned up in) but you would never have a clue that there were counter-protests, let alone violence by counter protestors.
Plans that have "been scrapped" can be easily revived when "we failled to come to an agreement about redevelopment of the existing site" or they can be used as a lever to pressure the council. The only way to stop that is for the permit to be withdrawn.
For those of an academic bent, the person to consult about the meaning and nature of mosque architecture - he observes particularly upon the military character and purpose of various of the traditional features, these being Muslim modifications of the basic design that was 'lifted' from a Byzantine template - is one Oleg Grabar.
For the non-academic, there is this very useful little piece by Seth Frantzman, which appeared in the Jerusalem Post, reflecting upon the significance of the siting of mosques.

Frantzman's article should be printed off and given to every member of every non-Muslim town, county or shire council that has been presented with a Muslim proposal for the building or expansion of a mosque, especially if the design includes minarets, but even if it doesn't.
Yes - it seems to be standard for all reports on the EDL. As far as I am aware there have been NO reports of the demo broadcast on national TV or radio. Not sure about local or regional stations.
When you think about it the authorities had to break it up as it would have become a focus for ever larger demonstrations. There were already reports that "our Asian citizens" were coming out in force. Also "community tensions" are not allowed to surface at any time and certainly not in the days before an election.
Thought. We are constantly reminded that "our Asian citizens" are poor and deprived so how can the "Asians" in a small town afford a huge £18 million mosque?
The latest development in the rooftop protest case are as follows:
The two people who according to yesterdays UK papers were "helping the police with enquiries" heve been apparently been arrested & have been denied their basic human rights. They have not even been permitted to make a phone call, the police have said "their human rights have been delayed". This is from the EDL facebook group.
A news article in todays Express & Star has the headline "Muslim group vows mosque will be built" it states that:
The Dudley Muslim Association today said it would proceed with plans to build a new mosque on derelict land in Dudley unless the council comes up with a “viable” alternative.
He vowed that a mosque would be built in Dudley, whether at this location or another.
He said: “We are waiting to see details of the offer, if the offer is not suitable we will have no alternative but to pursue Hall Street and will proceed immediately after the election.
Sounds to me like someone has been indulging in some taqiyya & the DMA seem to be holding the council to ransom!
