Google, Yahoo, YouTube offend Muslims, blocked in Pakistan

This is the kind of free speech restriction that the Organization of the Islamic Conference wants Western countries to adopt. "'Google, Yahoo, YouTube offend Muslims,'" from AFP, June 24 (thanks to Twostellas):

Lahore - A Pakistani court has ordered the authorities to block access to nine websites including Google, Yahoo and YouTube for allegedly offending Muslims with blasphemous material.

Judge Mazhar Iqbal ordered Pakistan's Telecommunications Authority to block the websites due to "material against the fundamental principles of Islam and its preaching," according to a copy of the judgement obtained by AFP.

Pakistan shut off Facebook for nearly two weeks last month in a storm of controversy about a competition to draw the Prophet Mohammad and has restricted access to hundreds of online links because of blasphemy....

Retired civil servant Siddique Mohammad had petitioned the court through Rehman for the ban on nine websites - Google, Yahoo, Amazon, MSN, Hotmail, YouTube, Islam Exposed, In The Name of Allah and Bing.

A spokesman for the Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan warned that the order could strangle Internet access for millions....

Uh, yeah.

Oh, the joys of Islam - holy Mo/allah, there is no joy in Islam.

Those Muslims who want any joy in life have to leave Islam!!!

In The Name of Allah and Bing.

Sounds like shirk to me...Who the heck is Bing?

And by now we do know that islam cannot cope with material against the fundamental principles of Islam and its preaching.

But it is a pity if they cannot have the opportunity to read about the Algerian footballer who deliberately hit a female reporter in the face as he was leaving the pitch after the last group game for Algeria in the soccer Word Cup.

Unfortunately Muslims are offended because we are simply quoting their own books. By the way, Muhammad was also fun !!! IT'S IN THEIR BOOKS !!!

Well OK...If Pakistan wants to cut itself off from the rest of the world, I'm sure nobody will notice except for Pakistanis.

I'm not listening...nyanyanyana!

Oh-wait a minute. Does that mean we're not gonna get any more American money to "fight" the Taliban?

Is there no joy to be had in these miserable Islamic utopias?

This is the kind of free speech restriction that the Organization of the Islamic Conference wants Western countries to adopt.

MSMBC seems fine with this, too.

"Free speech vs. hate speech on Facebook" by Helen A.S. Popkin

...Turns out in Pakistan, if Facebook does something people don't like, they actually stop using it. According to the Associated Press, about 2,000 female students rallied in Karachi against the social network, and several dozen male students gathered with signs “urging Islamic holy war against those who blaspheme the prophet.” When it comes to “Terms and Conditions,” navigating “hate speech” is a bigger challenge what to do about your previously “private” profile information.
..................

Several points, here. Firstly, a governmental ban is *censorship*, not just the decision of private individuals to no longer patronize a site.

Secondly, urging "Islamic holy war" against Facebook is not merely a matter of some people deciding to "stop using it".

Thirdly, notice the uncritical acceptance by the article's author that Facebook, in hosting "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day", is practicing "hate speech".

She then goes on to quote a fellow who compares Pakistan's ugly censoring of Facebook with—believe it or not—France's proposal to ban headscarves:

“Today in France, they’re considering banning head scarves (for Muslim women),” Calo cites as an example for comparison. “Pakistan wants to block Facebook for one page that nobody needs to go to."

Doesn't Pakistan sound reasonable? Imposing Shari'ah, and fighting its baleful effects—what could possibly be more morally equivalent? sarc/off

In citing some technical issues Facebook has had with safeguarding user's privacy, Popkin ends thusly:

"At least the people of Pakistan don’t have to worry about Facebook violating their privacy. For now, anyway."

How jocular! After all, what are the consequences of censorship and imposition of Shari'ah law, compared to a social networking site that has had trouble with hackers?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37238500/ns/technology_and_science-tech_and_gadgets/

Nobody forces muslims to visit these sites and read the blasphemous material that so offends them. They are free to censor themselves; they don't have to practice self-induced mental anguish. If they weren't so damned stupid, they would realize that islam is the source of their angst and responsible for causing mass insanity. Why doesn't the islamic world create its own private internet instead of complaining about ours and trying to censor it? They don't have to use it.

"Judge Mazhar Iqbal ordered Pakistan's Telecommunications Authority to block the websites due to "material against the fundamental principles of Islam and its preaching," according to a copy of the judgement obtained by AFP." --from the article

Hey, what about such "fundamental principles" as "no compulsion in religion," and "argue in a way that is better," etc.? Perhaps, taking context into account, these verses don't apply when the Muslim authority is in power and the country is almost all (97%) Muslim?

Notice to anyone who reads Loonwatch: As I have pointed out before in two previous notices here at Jihadwatch, I have already refuted Danios' articles (the part 2 article re "intellectual huckster," and his June 17 "challenge") about the word dhimma. See my replies to those articles in the JihadWatch thread "The dhimmis: guilty people," included in my responses from June 8 onward to the end of the thread. Danios has made the wild and unsupported claim that only Muslims, not non-Muslims, could be considered guilty of violating the dhimma. I present evidence showing that claim to be false. Danios should therefore issue a correction and retraction to his readers, and he should apologize to Robert and me.

free speech is UN-Islamic...

This, of course, assumes that Pakistanis can read. There's a leap of faith.

Beer Me
-Rick

As I observe Pakistan's conduct in this case, I am reminded of the sarcastic old children's rhyme that captures to a T the mindset of the malevolent sulker:

"Nobody loves me, everybody hates me,

I think I'll go and eat worms!

Big fat juicy ones,

long thin skinny ones,

See how they wiggle and squirm!

Down goes the first one, down goes the second one,

Oh how they wiggle and squirm!

Up comes the first one, up comes the second one,

Oh how they wiggle and squirm!

Bite their heads off, suck the guts out, throw the skins away!

Nobody knows how fat I grow,

On worms three times a day!

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me,

I think I'll go and eat worms!

Big fat juicy ones,
 long thin skinny ones,

See how they wiggle and squirm!"

Only by Force:
“As the essential principle of his [Muhammad’s] faith is the subjugation of others by the sword; it is only by force, that his false doctrines can be dispelled, and his power annihilated.” John Quincy Adams, writing in about 1829
http://crossmuslims.blogspot.com/

Why can't we cut off Internet access to all the Muslim countries? And while we're at it, cut off their cellphones and anything else that relies on a satellite?

It is an insult to Jihad Watch that it is not included in the list of sites to be banned. Like any totalitarian system (Communism, militarism and Nazism), Islam is allergic to information.
