I'll say it again: Syria recently scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but "the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour 'provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.'"
That's right: two years for murder. And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that "Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values."
What's more, a manual of Islamic law certified as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy by Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, says that "retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right." However, "not subject to retaliation" is "a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring's offspring." ('Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).
In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.
That's why these honor killings keep happening -- because they are broadly tolerated, even encouraged, by Islamic teachings and attitudes. Yet no authorities are calling Islamic leaders to account for this.

Police based their theory that it was an honour crime on "what we saw at the scene of the crime," said Olivier Lapointe, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service, and especially on interviews with people inside the house and the victim herself.
It appeared related to the "behavior of the victim," Lapointe said.
The woman, 38-year-old Johra Kaleki, faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon....
The family, which is Afghan in origin, moved to the neighbourhood in Dorval, near Montreal's main airport, about five years ago, according to neighbour Emery Dora.

A Somali woman in Winnipeg stabbed her two sons:
WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg woman accused of stabbing her two young children — one of them an infant — has been charged with attempted murder for the attack, police said Friday.
Investigators allege the 35-year-old woman grabbed a knife and stabbed her sons — aged four months and nine years — on Thursday night. It's believed she was then prevented from attacking her four-month-old niece by the little girl's mother, the 32-year-old sister of the suspect.
The sister struggled with the woman and disarmed her, but was stabbed in the process. She was treated and released from hospital Thursday night.
The children, initially listed in critical condition, were upgraded to stable condition on Friday.
The mother of the injured boys was grappling with postpartum depression and had been hospitalized in February, the Winnipeg Free Press has learned.
The woman, who came to Canada from Somalia, lives in a fourth-floor apartment with her two children.
She told police investigators her husband — who doesn't live in Canada — had been using magic on her, according to one source.
"Our biggest concern is the well-being of the victims in this matter," said Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen.
He said investigators are struggling to deal with the violent attack, which left the four-month-old with multiple stab wounds to his lower body. The nine-year-old was stabbed once before he fled the fourth-floor suite and sought help from security guards, who then called 911.
Police arrested the woman on scene. Michalyshen said the woman had no previous run-ins with police.
He wouldn't comment on the woman's mental health, but added the Winnipeg Police Service works with outside professionals to "get to the root of the issue" following incidents like the one that occurred Thursday.
"We have to rely on other organizations and other professionals to perform (psychological) assessments," Michalyshen said.
He said talk of the woman's postpartum depression is "speculation" but it's possible the woman was struggling with it.
Manitoba Child and Family Services have been contacted about the two injured children, he said.
Community members said they were shocked to hear the woman had been arrested.
Around midday Friday, a woman in a traditional Somali head covering visited the sister's downtown apartment. Some men who knew the injured sister said they were gathering with elders from the Somali community to talk about the stabbing.
The Winnipeg Police Service child abuse unit continues to investigate the incident.
The woman is charged with three counts of attempted murder, assault with a weapon and assault. She is being held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

I would say to the police, the jury and the judge, in this case: stick to the forensics. Believe the fingerprints, bloodstains, and any evidence forthcoming from non-Muslim neighbours or any non-Muslim witnesses who saw where the girl was before she arrived home.
But as for the father, the mother and even the sisters, and for that matter anybody else from the Mohammedan 'community': as a general rule of thumb, you must assume them to be lying. You may not even necessarily get the whole truth out of the victim.
And don't allow *anybody* who is known to be a Muslim, anywhere near that girl, in hospital, because if you do, I don't give squat for her chances of recovery.

They tried to murder the girl. I'd say the father and the mother colluded in it. But they don't believe what they tried to do was wrong, at all; had they succeeded in killing her, it would have been a justly-deserved execution, even a ritual sacrifice pleasing to allah. They will plead mental incompetence; they will plead 'provocation'; anything to get off the 'attempted murder' charge. Because although they, the Muslims, think the killing of the girl was fine and ought not to be punished at all (just as per sharia; it's their *right* to kill her, if she breaches the rules), they know that the currently much-more-numerous and powerful kaffir of Canada disapprove of such killings, and that some among those kaffir have worked out that there is a correlation between ritual murder of women and girls, and Islam, and are displeased...and if those displeased kaffir increase in number, then they may be able to put obstacles in the way of further expansion of Islam in Canada.
At all costs, the Muslims in this murderous little family have to try to 'cover up', to deflect, to deny, in order to protect Islam from critical scrutiny just a little bit longer, until their Mob grows strong enough not to have to worry what the kaffir think of it. I flew into Miami from London yesterday in a plane which had its whole rear end middle filled with Somalian refugees. There must have been at least 50 of them, all ages, and many, many infants. I honestly thought I had died and gone to Hell surrounded by these truly primeval people. Somalia is an Islamic state. Why are all these people being sent to the West to live, procreate and pollute? They were all clutching some UN-issue plastic bag with no doubt some sorts of resettlement documents inside. It may sound like doom and gloom but something very sinister is going on and we ignore it at our peril. What possible benefit can they bring us? The boys all looked like they would make good Jihadists, the girls, some as young as 5 or 6 all wore tent-like garments on their heads. The mothers, clutching their infants, omitted to change their diapers throughout the 9 hour flight, which resulted in some delightful aromas permeating through the plane, until people (i.e. us poor long-suffering Westerners) eventually called the flight attendants and asked them to deal with the situation. Luckily they did, and we didn't get branded racist for once. I am seriously contemplating asking AA for some kind of refund, compensation, nuissance payment....
The UN Refugee Council needs to be banned forthwith, they obviously have a hidden, or not so hidden agenda. Stop importing these people who can contribute exactly zero to our societies. I recall two cases, one in the USA a few decades ago, and one in Israel, among Arab Muslims, fairly recently.
One of the earliest 'honor' murders in the USA was the murder of an Arab Muslim girl called 'Palestina' (yes, that was her name). She was murdered because she was getting too friendly with a kaffir boy, among other things. Her mother held her down and hissed 'die, die' while the father did the stabbing. How do we know this? Because the father was suspected of having ties with Arab Muslim jihad groups in the Middle East, and the house had been bugged so that the relevant American agency could keep an ear on what he was up to. Nobody foresaw that the bugs would record every horrid detail of an 'honor' murder.
The other murder took place in an Arab Muslim family living within Israel. It seems that a teenage girl was raped by her brothers and became pregnant. Upon which, Mohammedan mama, in order to get rid of the stain on the family's so-called 'honor', rather than punish her creepy sons...murdered her daughter.

Why everyone is so jugemental. To me it sound like it was a fight between mother and dughter turned very very ugly, based on coming home late after 3am. Mia, you are in denial. I`m sure you know very well that Canadians are far beyond religion. I`ve been in Canada for 9 years and nobody asked me about my religion except new immigrants from the Middle East. I guess it`s because I was born and grew up in a Muslim country and they were curious to know if I was Muslim, but I`m not.
In most of the Muslim countries, people pay too much attention to religion and it could affect the way they treat you and judge you, I know that cause I suffered from it as a Christian who lived in a Muslim country. In Canada, you and I know very well that it doesn`t work this way.
You have to admit that Islam is on the media all the time lately for a reason. Fifty years ago, the picture was different. There was strong Islamic states that practiced moderate Islam and provided a good image of Muslims. Nowadays, radical Islam is on the rise and `moderate` Islam will be history soon. Think of Aphganistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and very soon, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq and more.
I agree with you that there are lots of crimes committed by non-Muslims, but at least they are condemned by everyone. On the other hand, reaction about Aqsa Parvez murder from a respect Islamic figure was vague and did not sharply condemn the crime. Canadians need to hear strong Muslim voices against these crimes.
I also agree with you that there`s nothing in Quran about Honour Killing, well, there`s is nothing in Quran about Niqab but most Islamic scholars now agree that it is a must. Unfortuantely, in some radical Islamic states the punishment for Honour Crimes is not strong enough.
In my honest opinion, nobody is trying to attack Islam, Muslims are the ones who are destroying the image of Islam.
Early Christianity committed crimes against humanity, but the church evolved and got rid of the violence and even apologized for those crimes recently. Islam needs to develop itself and get rid of those Fatwas about killing the Jews and making non-Muslim convert to Islam or pay taxes, music and dancing is forbidden, dogs are impure, banning Mickey Mouse. These ideas and others are the reason why people are scared of Islam. Only Muslims can change this image by not denying that there`s a problem and start to take positive action against the violence.
They must set an example by punishing this woman.

Deporting them will only tend to hurt the children.
