Saudi cleric behind adult-suckling fatwa is "adviser to the royal court and consultant to the Ministry of Justice"

Between this guy and Fethullah Gulen's (of Pennsylvania and Turkey) jinns-and-sorcery brand of Islam, does it seem to anyone else that we've wandered off into some weird Alice in Wonderland fantasy? Maybe what Islam needs is for Tim Burton to direct...

Apparently Allah, in his super-cool unfetteredness, is also quite daft as to not be able to see through the ruse of this fatwa as being a blatant end-around on shariah law.

While Al Obeikan advises that milk should be pumped and then given in a glass, another Saudi sheik, Abi Ishaq Al Huwaini, argues that men should suckle directly.

The first sentence of the story should be bolded for emphasis:

"While it has been common for women to breast-feed their young male relations so that they may be allowed together alone later..."

One assumes the reporter is not being sloppy, and accurately reported that as breast-feed (and not the rule of the fatwa -- "[t]he man should take the milk, but not directly from the breast of the woman"). This means it's common in Saudi (and probably generally in Muslim) society for male cousins and nephews qualified as "young" to suck on their breasts. And how "young" is "young"? Are we talking teenage boys? Even if not teenage, it's sick. Yet another aspect of the perversion of Muslim society, and a glimpse into the strange psyche of the Muslim male in his relationship to the female sex. Some Freudian should really study Muslim sexuality in all its grotesque permutations.

Hang on a second. Let's examine that first sentence again:

"While it has been common for women to breast-feed their young male relations so that they may be allowed together alone later..."

I thought that according to Islamic law, a woman can be with men as long as those men are already blood relations. So why would she have to suckle them in the first place? If accurate, this means that it's not merely "common" -- it is Islamically de rigueur.

In the United States we have vast "Got Milk" campaigns, where boys are promised they will grow up to be big and strong and attract girls, and girls are told they will grow up to be beautiful, and with a healthy glow, if they Get That Milk.

And in Saudi Arabia, women are told that if they squeeze their own breast milk into bottles, and send it around to all of their family's male acquaintances and friends (why, your husband can bring a bottle to work, and distribute it to his fellow male workers) then later on, the woman in question can meet, without any fear of arousing suspicion or scorn, with all the men who have tasted that milk.

What's the difference? As any Defender of Islam who comes to this site can tell you, there is no difference at all. In both cases, milk performs a useful social role.

To think otherwise would be to show that one has culture-bound blinkers on, and to invite ridicule. Why, next you'll be saying that women should not be required to wear black chadors or abayas or niqabs in the 120 degree heat of Arabia and Iran. But just think -- would such a rule, outwardly so counter-intuitive, ever have been made by Muslim Arabs if, given how excruciatingly hot such clothes must be in the Middle East, unless there were a very good reason for it, and the only good enough would be if Allah wanted it thus.

So on the subject of that breast-milk, please don't be so judgmental.

All men become 14-year-olds under such conditions, is it a wonder they behave childish? Had I a daughter in a muslim country I too would guard her well unless the surroundings were very secure. Viz all that talk about "brother" and "sister" among puritans.

Good Lord. We in the civilized world need to point at these backward, superstitious savages, and laugh them off the planet. If only it were that easy.

O.T. perhaps, but we are on the subject of milk:

As I understand Islamic teaching, a man who has sex with a goat or sheep is not allowed to eat the flesh of that animal; he must sell it to someone else.
So my question to all the imams out there is: Can he drink the milk of a ewe or nan with which he's had sex? And can he eat cheese made from such milk? Or do those things,too, have to be sold to someone else?
An inquiring mind wants to know.

This reminds me of something.

My mum and dad, good Presbyterians, had 8 children, and my mum breastfed each baby for at least a year. On one occasion she had expressed some milk and put it aside in the fridge - not sure why - maybe she had cracked nipples and was expressing milk to put in a feeding-bottle, rather than risk a painful chomp from tiny jaws. Now, my dad was a dairy farmer, so the fridge had jugs and mugs of cows' milk in it as well, standing to let the cream set on top. Anyway, not long after my mum had put her milk in the fridge, along came my dad, looking for a nice cold cup of milk...reached into the fridge, seized a cup and scoffed it off...urk! What was that? Hey, what's wrong with *that* cow??!!

He had drunk his wife's milk by accident...OOOPS.

I guess if they'd been Muslims, he would have to have been classed as her son from then on...oh dear.

I can't stand it! Sickening to read, sickening to think about. The only thing good about knowing this stuff is knowing just how awful the 'rules' are so as to be protected from the delusions of thinking they are truly in some way 'normal' like the rest of us.

Each person, when born, has a conscience. We all know when we have done something we shouldn't that comes under the 'rule' of natural law. Like, we know what happens to those jumping off a tall building or getting out of a car hurtling down the freeway. If we go against natural laws, we show our foolishness and stupidity.

Just how stupid can people be? The Iranian cleric's words answer that question...loud and clear. Thanks to Hugh for telling all of us just how much they trample on natural laws. And I agree with Mike. Their ideas are not just 'alien' but I believe they are demonic. That makes the breaking of natural laws so much worse than stupid.
