Indonesia the Model of Modern Islam continues to show a very different face, at least for the Christians there. "Attacks on Christian Churches in Indonesia Rising: Activists," from Agence France-Presse, July 26 (thanks to Twostellas):
Jakarta. Indonesian human rights activists on Monday urged President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to investigate attacks on Christian churches, which they say have increased in the last two years. From January to July, there were 28 cases of religious freedom violations by "intolerant groups targeting Christians," up from 17 for the whole of 2008 and 18 in 2009, the Setara Institute for Democracy and Peace said in a report.
Based on reports by churches and the media, the violations -- mostly by radical Muslim groups -- include forced closure of churches, revocation and delays in issuing building permits, and attacks such as torching and damaging churches, the institute said.
"These incidents are a breach of law and human rights. The President and the government have been very silent on this matter and have not provided enough protection to citizens," Setara's deputy chief Bonar Tigor Naipospos said.
"The attackers have become bolder as law enforcement is weak. We can't let the incidents continue as peace in the country will be jeopardized," he added....
Ayaan Hirsi Ali had a bit to say on Indonesia when asked about it on the ABC's Lateline last night: http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2010/s2964929.htm
From the transcript:
LEIGH SALES: How do you reconcile that, say, with a country such as Indonesia with the world's largest Muslim population where there's a secular democracy existing alongside I think it's about 90 per cent of Indonesians identify as Muslim. They had a female head of state before Australia had, they work closely with Australia to stamp out extremism and Islamist movements within their country.
How does that fit with what you're saying?
AYAAN HIRSI ALI: It fits very well with what I'm saying, which is Muslims as individuals can choose how much of their religion they can practice and countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey were famous for a long time in the fact that a majority of their populations would only practice the religious dimension of Islam and they neglected to practice the, say, political dimension of Islam like Saudi Arabia or Iran.
That is changing. You see that more and more Indonesians are succumbing to the propaganda, mostly financed by countries like Saudi Arabia and spread by the Islamist Brotherhood in Egypt, they're succumbing more and more to the political dimension of Islam.
So anywhere in the world, whether it's Indonesia or Libya or Nigeria or Pakistan, anywhere where you see people wanting to practise more of Islam and introduce the sharia perspective, the sharia side of Islam, you see the same violations of human rights.
And in Indonesia, we've seen not only the terrorist acts, but the intolerance to what Christians and the Christian minorities and the Chinese minorities and also, again, the subjection of women. So, it fits very well with what I'm saying.
It's an ideology, it's not a race. Muslims are believers in what they think is a good moral framework, but most of them really don't know the content of that moral framework.
---------------------------
Even better was what she said further on:
"And if they find that rejecting the political dimension of Islam in a way is to - doesn't really fit in with - because you have to - Islam demands that you submit to the will of Allah. If you don't submit completely, that means if you also don't adopt both the political and social dimensions of Islam, you're not a true Muslim then I would say to those Muslims: seek other alternative sources of morality and spirituality."
Too right. She's just brilliant. If only there were a billion like her.
Islam must rule over all others. That does not just mean it is the only religion, is also must be the only political party as well.
Moderation is for monks and there are no monks in Islam.
"If only there were a billion like Ayaaqn Hirsi Ali."
We are working on that!
'Monkey see, monkey do'...The Islamic 'hundred monkey number' applied to Christian persecution...When it becomes evident that everybody's doing it, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia etc, they will all start to do it...They have already eliminated Jews from most Mahoundian area's and now it's the Christians...First the Saturday people then the Sunday people...Considering Quran 5:82, isn't that haram?
"The attackers have become bolder as law enforcement is weak."
The attackers know that the end of islam is coming. Just look at theses statistics..(Source: Muslim Sheikh "Al Qataani on muslim TV "Al Jazeera".

efoc
thanks for that. I clicked on the link you gave and read the whole transcript (and copied it to my 'ayaan hirsi ali' file, that I keep inside my 'lan astaslem' folder).
I really, really like what she says toward the end, re. the whole immigration, refugees and asylum seekers debate.
Plain old common sense. It's just not possible to take in everyone, so prioritise the ones who will fit in best. She couldn't have said it at a better time, right in the middle of our election campaign.
I hope that at least a few of our politicians took a bit of time off from campaigning, that evening, to watch 'Lateline'! And that they paid attention.
From the article:
"The attackers have become bolder as law enforcement is weak."
Well, in the case of Indonesia, the 'law enforcement' being probably 99 % Muslim are more likely *complicit*.
But even in non-Muslim countries, or internationally, in the relations between non-Muslim countries and Muslim countries, wherever 'law enforcement' [whether the Infidel police force, or the Infidel military response to Muslim cross-border threats and aggression] is weak, the jihadists grow bolder. Just like any kind of thug, predator or gangster, the thugs and gangsters of Islam grow bold whenever they sense they will be allowed to get away with things; when they see that the law will *not* be enforced against them in any meaningful way.
And that's what they've been doing lately - growing bolder.
Looks like the non-Muslim law enforcement needs to get stronger. Which would mean cutting out on the flattery and 'respect', cutting off all the jizya (whether foreign 'aid' to Muslim countries or domestic 'anti-radicalisation funding' to Muslim 'community groups' that never quite deliver on their promises ), ignoring Muslim whining and grievance theatre, and coming down on every manifestation of jihad - and that includes things like Muslims vandalising synagogues and trying to set fire to cartoonist's houses - with the equivalent of a ten-tonne hammer.
Churches are being set on fire in New York. Makes me wonder if this is a trend at the "big satan." G-d help us all.
