A prison service spokesman said: "On Saturday a problem in the kitchens resulted in Muslim prisoners being mistakenly served non-halal food."
It is still not clear exactly what meat was used.
The spokesman added: "The governor is apologising to the prisoners affected and an investigation is under way. The prison is working closely with the Muslim chaplain on this matter."
Muslim inmates are forbidden from eating pork as it is considered a sin but there are differences of opinion on non-halal meat....
Is breaking kuffar laws considered a sin? Opinions differ.
Muslim chaplains? Next thing you know, they'll be letting in witch doctors.

This is OT of the post but just wanted to alert people to the report the jihadist online conference this Saturday. The story is at the Infidel Task Force site and also at Logans Warning. Well, yes. They are being wusses. Non-halal food is specifically authorized under duress...
I have been a cook/food service manager all my life {I am 53}. Besides the pork sausage patties sold in supermarkets, I have never heard of hamburgers made with pork. The above stated would be cost prohibitive.
During a brief job at a county jail supervising inmates working in the kitchen cooking 1500 meals a day, I can attest to the fact that, on the usual menu are: Turkey franks, turkey bologna, turkey ham, turkey salami, turkey meatballs, turkey bacon, ground turkey substituted for ground beef, & turkey-turkey! NO sausage hamburgers {or beef for that matter!} were ever served.
Several 'Moslem' inmates demanded & received special foods {NOT halal}. But if any CO or inmate caught a 'Moslem' eating anything besides their 'special' foods, they were immediately & forever after served jail fare. No lawsuit was ever won by these charlatans.

I was wrong about the hamburger patties. There was some beef in them, but a substantial amount of TVP {textured vegetable protein} was second on the list of ingredients.
I think he should send all of them a handwritten note of apology along with adequate compensation to assuage the injustice they have suffered. Then he should resign and retire from public life with no pension. Such an abomination is simply unacceptable. Those poor, persecuted, imprisoned innocents might go to hell as a result of his egregious irresponsibility!
this argument here is lame at best and has nothing to do with Jihad. we have jewish prisoners in this country and we feed them Kosher meal, and we allow them to practice their basic religious right such as sabath.. to argue that since the commited a crime, and now that they in a chritian jail thus they should not be complaing is lame. Handling a koran? Kid gloves are made from the skin of young goats. Expensive nappa leather gloves may be made from the treated skin of kid, lamb or sheep skin. Leather gloves may however also be made from pigskin. Oh oh.

She laughed hysterically, pleased with her little joke at my expense, when I bit into it and realized what it was.

Mike Ryan-- that's an infuriating episode that you described above. Heck, if you were Muslim with the proper connections, you could probably get some mileage out of calling it a hate crime.
But I think there are a few crucial differences. The first is the setting. You were at a party; the case in the story above happened at a prison.
So, part of the issue here is Muslim prisoners' being afforded the privilege of "special" food, despite their being in prison for doing something wrong, after all.
The other part is that all you wanted was something vegetarian, rather than expecting kosher meat. Halal meat is being taken for granted in U.K. prisons as an entitlement.
So the issue here should not be taken to be, for example, a simple matter of contempt against people who don't eat bacon.

Mike Ryan, what your hostess did to you was despicable and not funny at all. And I actually agree that a certain number of "religious rights" should be respected, even in prison.
But "demanding hallal" is going too far. You're in prison; you don't expect fancy food. Even a school or a hospital shouldn't be required to provide hallal, kosher, gluten-free, lactose-free, nut-free... etc. all the time. It's just too complicated. I agree with those above who have already said that an institution should provide two types of meal: "ordinary" and vegetarian. Foods can also be labelled so that people with allergies can avoid their personal poison. That way nobody is violated, but no undue pressure is placed on the caterers.
Interestingly enough, the standard G.C.S.E. (Year 11) textbook on Islam has a section on difficulties Muslims face when living in Britain. One of these "difficulties" is "being forced to eat vegetarian because hallal food is not available." Um, that's a hardship? I couldn't believe that 15-year-olds were being invited to sympathise!
The whole "difficulties" section actually aroused in me something that was the reverse of sympathy. It was basically a list of ways (some) Muslims wanted us to accommodate them in exchange for the privilege of their friendship. I suppose Christians (and Jews) don't expect to be "understood" by outsiders; we expect to extend our friendship despite the fact that no accommodation will be made, and to stick to our values without complaining about the effort or demanding an easy ride.
But it was surprising that a book written to promote tolerance didn't get that point about its target culture; it alienated the very audience it was trying to reach.
We kaffurs must stop submitting to Muslim demands. Koran 4:28 Allah wishes to lighten your burden, for man was created weak" spawned the concept of "tayseer" (or "tayasur") which loosely translates into "lightening one's burden". When Muslims are in non-Muslims lands the Koran gives them permission to do what would otherwise be forbidden in a Muslim land.
