We always hear in the West that women who choose to don the veil are doing so of their own free will, and are perfectly free not to wear it. Yet the leader of the students' union at Aliah University is willing to put this kind of pressure on Sirin Middya, and he is by no means alone in this. "Woman not allowed to teach after burqa refusal," from Sify News, July 30 (thanks to all who sent this in):
A lady teacher in West Bengal's first Muslim university, the Aliah University, was not allowed to teach after she refused to wear the burqa (veil) inside the varsity premises.Sirin Middya, a guest lecturer of the university, along with eight other lady teachers got a 'diktat' from the leaders of the students' union to wear burqa and attend the college.
'I was asked by the leaders of the student's union to wear burqa and attend the college and if I don't abide by the diktat, they won't allow me to attend the college. Then after a few days as we were entering the university campus, they started shouting slogans 'those who are against purdah system should go to hell',' Middya told IANS.
Middya was appointed in March this year and got the union's 'diktat' in the second week of April. From April-end, she has been unable to go to the Aliah University's Calcutta Madrasah Campus.
A notice issued by the university clearly stated that 'university has no dress code, any pressure from any corner will not be allowed regarding the use of burqa inside the university campus. If anybody creates pressure on female teachers to use the burqa, necessary steps will be taken by the university authorities', she said.
'The University Grants Commission and the university itself do not prescribe any such dress code. Who are they to dictate us what we should wear and what we should not. The most unfortunate part is that the students and leaders of students union are forcing us to wear burqa. A few of the teachers gave into their demand but I didn't,' Middya said.
According to her, she has no issues with wearing a burqa - but if she dons one, it would be of her own free will.
'Most of the teachers do not like the diktat of the students to wear burqa. But they have no option but to accept it. This is Talibanisation of educational premises and there is no one to our rescue,' she said....
So much for choice in Islam.
The left's speech and thought control on campus is further tightening, this story about the "correct" attitude to be adopted as to homosexuality. See this recent story,
http://www.standardnewswire.com/news/733565427.html
Dress control will easily follow, including prohibiting the display of symbols considered antithetical to the left's sensibilities, whether crosses or anything else not in alignment with Islamic practices. Islam and the left, both full vocal adherents of totalitarian government, are cut from the same cloth.
Control is the core substance of the left.
Aliah University...Is this a Shia university?
A notice issued by the university clearly stated that 'university has no dress code, any pressure from any corner will not be allowed regarding the use of burqa inside the university campus.
Don't worry, soon these students will grow up and get jobs at Aliah, and they will fix the errors of those who have gone before them...Or they could just stage a few riots and assaults and accomplish the same thing faster...
The current Indian government is least likely to help out these muslim women who want to resist the burqa.
The govt is busy bending backwards to appease muslims and the more hardline they are, the more appeasement they get.
yet another example of what to expect when Islam is allowed to rule....
It's a wonder that women are allowed in at all as teachers, students or even janitors - burqa or no burqa. As duh_swami puts it - this should be corrected some enough. After all, what do women need with an education?
When men don't see enough of women little boys begin to look awfully pretty.
You have a very interesting site. I don't think most people in America truly understand the "true" nature of Sharia law and Islam....
Thank you for posting this!

It is funny old thing that ritual obsession always expects to take precedence when up against unbelief. And even the gullible unbeliever very often thinks that quite acceptable and normal: a religion is always GOOD. And we have religious freedom.
Therefore it is quietly overlooked that totalitarianism is encroaching. It has already become difficult for me to buy and eat a chicken that has not been slaughtered according to one man´s obsession, including religious mumbo-jumbo being spoken over the whole sad affair. Also halal-food is the only thing on the menu in some institutions and kindergartens: children of unbelievers are forced to eat halal-food, because it is the easiest way out and what harm is there in it? So much for religious freedom.
Freedom in religion? Islam certainly is the least likely witness to THAT. But you´ll never make muslims stop whining it.
welcome to this blog, surfer. Yes, vast majority don't know about the evils of islam and those people who follow this cult of death. Fortuntly many people who come here do know. We come from all races and religions on this site. But we are pretty much united against the islamization of our countries and the world. I too bring my own perspectives as well as the experiances of my native country of India.
As you can see west bengal has a communist government , this government bends over backwards to appease the muslims , they are solidly againt the hindus. Don't expect them to do a thing about the nonrights of muslims women. In fact the rest of the liberal and media establishment never highlight muslim women's plights or islamic subversion. All other Hindus generally are too busy with their lives to care.
I have witnessed several times here in Denmark how muslim women are being made to wear the niqab or the likes. Men passing them on the street and firing off a few short sentences, leaning out the open window of car for a few comments, a young man in a bus taking good care that no one but the young woman a few seats in front of him understood what he had to say.
I didn´t understand a word of it in any of the cases, but the faces of the poor young women as they hurried off told me everything I needed to know. And I knew that the next time they ventured out they´d very probably be considering to dress up as per the dictates of islamofacism.
OT news: Floods in NW Pakistan have so far claimed over 800 lives. The city of Peshawar is cut off, and the rivers are still rising. As yet, Pakistanis have not blamed either Israel or America.
how about India? they usually blame India first. after that thye blame themselves for not being islamic enough.
This university is in West Bengal the Commie ruled state. The state is already 25% or so Muslim, and with more and more Bangladeshis sneaking across the border into West Bengal (most of them Muslims), pretty soon it is going to be the second Muslim majority state in India after Kashmir. And we all know what is going on in Kashmir, dont we? West Bengal will be to Bangladesh what Kashmir is to Pakistan- a Muslim land waiting to be reclaimed. And not long before India turns majority Muslim from the current 15% Muslim (I believe this figure is vastly understated). This whole Burka thing is just a trailer. Wait till the full length movie follows. 1 Billion+ Muslims to add to the existing 1.3 BN. If India is lost Islam will win. I dont even feel sorry for Hindus anymore. I pity them.
The West will have to align itself with China to counter Muslim India, in the event that India turns completely green sometime down this century, a fact which is looking very, very likely.
The Pakistanis just happen to be preoccupied at the moment with the floods. But don't worry. After things have settled down a bit and they have a moment for reflection I am confident they will have no difficulty finding some sort of reason to blame the floods on Israel and the U.S.
No doubt we MUST give the Pakis more money now.
Yep, Zionism is bound to be the reason.
"As yet, Pakistanis have not blamed either Israel or America."
LOL!!
Yes, I'm surprised BHO hasn't announced a multi-billion dollar "humanitarian" aid package for Pakistan. Maybe he's trying to figure out how many billions will be enough. It wouldn't do to be chintzy, after all. Or maybe it's just that he's playing golf, and isn't to be disturbed.
'those who are against purdah system should go to hell'
...............
As has been noted, the imposition of full purdah would prevent the presence of "lady teachers" at the university, swathed in burqas or otherwise.
In case you're wondering where the Western feminists are, here's a moronic bit of moral equivalency I just ran across from Erica Jong:
"Women in America read 'lifestyle' pages that are really glorifications of shopping. They teach us we must veil ourselves in makeup to be loved. And we willingly take the veil, thinking ourselves freed by it. Makeup is no more optional for us than the veil is for Arab women. It is our Western version of the chador."
Ah yes. I always have to remember to wear makeup before venturing out of the house, lest I run afoul of the religious police, or before my students condemn me to hell. sarc/off
It is clear Muslims don't want qualified teachers...they want submissive servants..
On the University's official website, it indicates that one of the degrees you can get is "a 5-year integrated M.A. in Islamic Theology".
Islam is full of excuses for Muslim men and it appeals to domestic violence abusers. Under Sharia law, only men can testify in "adultery" cases, which includes a woman being raped, a woman needs four witnesses to prove rape with a woman's testimony considered half that of a man's, and the accused is considered guilty until proven innocent. So, women who aren't covered head to toe are considered inciting men, giving them an excuse to rape her or a reason to beat her. It is a "legal" system wherein all responsibility is put on women for the actions of men. It is an abuser's paradise.
