Afghanistan: Clerics twist Karzai's arm for return to "strict Islamic law"

Sharia, that is. And a disastrous precedent exists in the language of the U.S.-backed, post-Taliban constitution:

"No law can be contrary to the beliefs and provisions of the sacred religion of Islam" (Chapter 1, Article 3).

Thus, where there is any doubt or conflict in the Afghan government, Islamic law wins by constitutional fiat. What could possibly go wrong? Exactly what is reported in the story below: the demand for all the things we've been assured countless times don't really happen in Sharia law, like stonings, floggings, and amputation, as well as execution for apostasy from Islam. But these Misunderstanders of Islam are digging in and demanding them.

"Afghan clerics seek return to strict Islamic law," by Syed Salahuddin for Reuters, August 12:

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan's largest gathering of clerics, who met to discuss reconciliation with the Taliban, has called for the revival of strict Islamic law as the country seeks ways to win militants away from a growing insurgency.
About 350 of the Islamic clerics, or ulema, met for three days this week, the meeting ending with a declaration calling on President Hamid Karzai to enact sharia, or Islamic law, including punishments such as stonings, lashing, amputation and execution.
"The lack of implementation of sharia hodud (punishment) has cast a negative impact on the peace process," said a 10-point resolution issued after the meeting.
"We the ulema and preachers of Afghanistan ... earnestly ask the government not to spare any efforts in the implementation of sharia hodud."
The resolution, seen by Reuters, was sent to Karzai's government.
The ulema have a long-standing and deep influence in traditionally conservative Afghanistan and have often stepped in to back uprisings or been used to bolster past governments. [...]

In other words, we're looking at constitutionally-backed Sharia blackmail.

That's not just Afghanistan, it's the standard of Islam...

This is why Islam cannot freely practice their sharia dependent ideology in the US...The US law and Constitution do not apply to them...

The lack of stoning, flogging, amputation and execution has negatively affected the peace process???

In other words, keep the Taliban happy—bring back brutal, medieval, cruel, mutilating and lethal injustice, and there will be peace in Afghanistan.

Is the world mad, or is it just me?

So—death sentences for apostates and allowing Shi'ites to imprison their wives in their homes and even starve them if they are not quick about "putting out" isn't "Islamic" enough?

Silly question. Until they have mass amputations and stonings in the soccer stadium again, it will *never* be Islamic enough.

Hey—we never would have needed the Marshall Plan and the Nuremburg Trials if we had just instituted National Socialism in Germany after we won the war. That would have aided the reconciliation of Nazis, no doubt...sarc/off

Also, this further shows the absurdity of the concept of a "peace process" with Islam. If the only thing that facilitates "peace" with Jihadists is instituting the violent savagery of Shari'ah law, then in what way is this "peace"?

Billions of dollars and thousands of precious lives of our young men and women wasted in trying to civilize these barbarians. These people could never be civilized!!!

Let's just get out of all Islamic barbarian lands and also send these barbarians from those countries back to where they came from!!

The title of this article,

"Afghan clerics seek return to strict Islamic law"

is just a foregone conclusion of what was inevitable not only nine years ago, but actually more than a thousand years ago when islam dictated a return to dirt and rocks.

In Afghanistan there is always plenty of rocks.

Rock on Karzai, rock on.

Look at our own twisted logic of why we have to spend billions in Afgahnicrapistan and porkiecrapistan. Our goals are to make sure that the afghans do not return to supporting terrorist groups who attack the west. But of course it's perfectly ok for them to practice the strict islam that caused the problem in the first place.
As we all know islam is religion of peace and more islam means more peace. So we are to waste more billions and more lives to continue this useless endevor. Now in it's 8th year, with no end in sight. This is not only a quagmire of our own creation but also a boondogle and a moneypit for billions.

oh, if only Robert Spencer ran the state dept and Pam Greller was president. ( or vice verse).

l say now how can there be any peace process with islam when they want to bring back stonings, amputations, heck the good old days of islam is a bloodbath for women and minorities. a good way to destroy islam is to liberalize it!

"Is the world mad, or is it just me?"

I hear you. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a rerun of the "Twilight Zone" or "Groundhog Day".
It can be difficult to maintain one's sanity when all those around them are behaving as if they live in an alternate universe.

Maybe one day something will rouse them from their stupor. I hope it happens before it's too late.

Stonings, floggings, amputation and execution for apostasy IS peace, blessed peace, the only and true peace, peace and power for the Ulema. This congregation of angry men who cannot imagine there is anything in this world other than the Quran and its peculiar mix of lifted tales, platitudes, primitive self-evident truths and hate-mongering made up to be the greatest thing invented since reason enabled man to come up with excuses for his bloodthirst, hates and desires.

The Danish troops in Afghanistan have stone age Taleban in front of them, and they have the stone age Ulema to bring up their rear. No wonder the question is raised more loudly why we bother at all.

This reminds me of something a wise man wrote thousands of years ago: "There is no peace, my God has said, for the wicked one."

I agree with the above comments that young lives have been lost...wasted... so the people of Afghanistan could complete their circle back to the beginning when the Taliban was in charge and the clerics were in agreement with all that was cruel and barbaric. Now they freely admit this is what they liked before so much time and talent was spent there to try to help them...help they didn't want and do not appreciate. They have shown their true colors and no amount of helping with schools, hospitals and the like will change this.

The Russians lost a war there and they cared less about their public image.

This is truly sad, but not unexpected for those who know history and the practices of this vile religion.

All the comments above are, as usual, spot on; still, we always seem reluctant to drive in the final nail of the argument. Why are we so afraid to come out and admit that arabs will continue to live in the ninth century until islam is completely liquidated? Since day one I have been strenuously opposed to the free world's interventions in iraq and afghanistan, a position which has exposed me to vilification from those whom I have always considered my right of centre colleagues - what, am I soft on terrorism or something? Don't I believe in democracy?
The cruel, unvarnished truth of the matter is that these dreadful people are simply not worth the precious young lives of our soldiers, which we have been so recklessly and shamelessly squandering on these fool's errands for longer than eight years. The big-eyed poster child waif to whom you give a candy bar today will, without remorse, kill your son or daughter twenty years from now.
It won't matter whether the allies remain for one year or a hundred, or whether we throw away the lives of a thousand or a million of our finest young citizens; at the end of the day we'll have to withdraw from a region which will have reverted to its primitive savagery before our last boot has been lifted from the tarmac.
Anyway, we can't afford to commit our military to useless missions halfway across the world, because we need it right here in our own countries to protect us from the stealth jihad and to get on with the task of repatriating all the moslems we have so foolishly and naïvely permitted to infiltrate our tolerant and inclusive nations.

Thank you Knighttemplar2. Your video is now on every Blog I have access to.

Right on, brother. The problem is, actually, those "big-eyed poster child waifs". The Coalition can't use the full force of its might because whenever air strikes are called for, you get whines about how there might just be some little kid in the area.

Well, boo hoo.

Folks will have to start thinking this way - "If it's between my kids living (and having an education, and a job when they grow up) and THOSE kids, I guess I'd better choose mine."

the Afgahn government f....up royally. they just missed a great opputuniny. the gathering of 350 clerics?
they should have had their best solders there, and kill eveyone of those f....ks! that would have been an end to Sharia laws!!

The second I navigated to the outrageous The End Of Nations Hubpages Hub I said that Jihad Watch visitors should act as jury on this link: http://hubpages.com/hub/Global-Union-The-End-Of-Nations
