Afghanistan: Jihadists in U.S. Army uniforms attack NATO base

Quoth Muhammad: "War is deceit." "Insurgents attack 2 bases in east Afghanistan," by Rahim Faiez for the Associated Press, August 28:

KABUL, Afghanistan - Insurgents wearing U.S. Army uniforms launched pre-dawn attacks Saturday on a major NATO base in eastern Afghanistan and a nearby camp where seven CIA employees were killed last year in a suicide bombing. NATO said there were no coalition casualties and the attacks were repelled.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan's presidential office condemned U.S. media reports that Afghan government officials have received payments from the CIA in return for information.
A former U.S. official told The Associated Press on Friday that the CIA has paid members of the Afghan government to track various factions within it. The practice has raised concerns at a time when the United States is pressing Afghan officials to make the government less corrupt.
The New York Times reported the agency is paying Mohammed Zia Salehi, the chief of administration for Afghanistan's National Security Council, for information. The Washington Post also had the report on Friday.
NATO said at least 21 insurgents were killed -- including four who were wearing suicide vests -- and five captured in Saturday's coordinated attacks.
Afghanistan's Interior Ministry put the insurgent death toll in the attacks at 24, with five captured and no casualties on the police side. The Defense Ministry said two Afghan soldiers were killed and three wounded in the fighting.
The assaults on the sprawling Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khost province and nearby Camp Chapman came around 3 a.m., just as area residents were rising for early morning prayers.
The area, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of Kabul near the border with Pakistan, is a hotbed of activity by the Taliban and other insurgent groups, including the December attack on Chapman that killed four CIA officers and three contracted security guards.
In recent months similar attacks have been launched against U.S. bases at Bagram, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Afghan police said about 50 insurgents attacked using rifles, heavy machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons, but had been repelled.
After being driven away from the bases, the insurgents approached the nearby offices of the governor and provincial police headquarters but were driven off, said Khost provincial police Chief Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai.
"Given the size of the enemy's force, this could have been a major catastrophe for Khost. Luckily we prevented it," he said.
Small arms fire continued through the morning, while NATO helicopters patrolled overhead.
NATO said two insurgents had managed to breach Salerno's perimeter, but were observed cutting the fence and killed immediately.
Dead insurgents were seen wearing camouflage jackets and pants seemingly identical to those warn by U.S. Army soldiers....

Who is being " canny Jim Joneslike " here? Is it not unislamic to wear US Army uniforms ? That too during their holy month of Ramadan. This calls for double draconian fatwas against them from the peaceful Imams.

Why not strictly stick to their smelly baggy dirty rags if so cocksure of their might & righteousness.

"United States is pressing Afghan officials to make the government less corrupt". This is called comic relief.

Why don't they sew or print images of pigs and dogs on the uniforms and spray them with bacon scent? It'd keep those insurgents from wanting to put on the uniforms.

Some getting up to pray while others try to make them come true.

Oh, great. I've heard of numerous cases of Jihadists wearing *Afghan* army or police uniforms attacking—of course, they may well have been Afghan army or police after all.

This is the first time I have heard of Jihadists wearing U.S. Army uniforms—disturbing enough, in itself, it also begs the question of how they obtained them—likely from some sympathetic Afghans working on the base to begin with.

OUR people are fighting with morals and courage, while these cancers are using dirty and underhanded means. Lets stop the fighting and get all our BLOOD home. Lets bring them home or fight a real war. If we don't have the stomach for the REAL thing, then the enemy is RIGHT. Paper tiger.

My best friend is in Afghanistan, thus this strikes quite close to my heart.

@ gravenimage :
I have heard of the Muslims doing things like that and much worse. The Muslims don't have ANY compunction of fighting a proper battle. To them, ANYTHING and produces a result is the proper way to fight. My ex husband was in Kuwait and in Somalia. I have much experience vicariously.

hat tip at my blog.

"Afghanistan's Interior Ministry put the insurgent death toll in the attacks at 24, with five captured and no casualties on the police side...."

This can happen anytime you attack something other than girls schools or bicycle icecream vendors...

" OUR people are fighting with morals and courage, while these cancers are using dirty and underhanded means".

This needs to be rereemphasized to all bleeding hearts & apologists.

They consistently hoodwink the West into believing they stand in relief from the terrorists. All of them are seamlessly anchored in Terrorism. Period. Call it their never ebbing thaqqiya.

Also, all the factions temporarily unite when they fight against us.

To annihilate them ,the non muslims ought to relinquish *ethical warfare* and outdistance them in ruthlessness and deviousness. Why should we not load our missiles with ball bearings, rat poison etc ? As someone suggested earlier,"bring out the napalm".

RULES of HONOUR are NOT applicable for the DIShonourable. This is Lord Krishna's unambiguous message in Bhagavad Geetha.

Also remember when taliban attempted an attack on perennially whining & begging for aid , aid , more aid duplicitous karzai whose entire clan thrives on drug trade afghani police did NOT defend him. It was American Soldiers who shielded the good for nothing karzai thus thwarting an assassination.

Colin Powell's " You break it & You Take It " is the best counsel.

Saudi itself is not obsessed with their upliftment. Why should we bother ?

I Wholeheartedly agree! You can't fight an Honorable war against the Dishonorable. It seems most of our politicians didn't learn this from the Viet Nam war.

And the Liberal Democrats are perpetuating the violence by going to the defense of the Islamofacists, simply because an enemy of the Conservative Republicans is a friend of theirs.

Build the next mosque in the Liberals neighborhood!
