Salon: Opposition to Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero is all Pamela Geller's fault

It's in "How the 'ground zero mosque' fear mongering began," by Justin Elliott in Salon, August 16 (thanks to all who sent this in):

To a remarkable extent, a Salon review of the origins of the story found, the controversy was kicked up and driven by Pamela Geller, a right-wing, viciously anti-Muslim, conspiracy-mongering blogger, whose sinister portrayal of the project was embraced by Rupert Murdoch's New York Post.

While I agree that my FDI/SIOA colleague Pamela Geller has been ably leading the charge nationally on this issue (as Daisy Khan herself has noted), Justin Elliott is kidding himself, and Salon readers, if he thinks the 70% of the American people who oppose an lslamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero are doing so because they have been manipulated by Pamela Geller or anyone else. The American people know that this is not a matter of religious freedom, but an insult to the memories of those who were murdered at Ground Zero on 9/11, and an Islamic supremacist manifestation of the Islamic tendency to build triumphal mosques on the cherished sites of conquered peoples.

Pamela comprehensively rebuts Elliott's smears here. And I'd just like to add one thing. Elliott says:

May 7, 2010: Geller's group, Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), launches "Campaign Offensive: Stop the 911 Mosque!" (SIOA 's associate director is Robert Spencer, who makes his living writing and speaking about the evils of Islam.)

I write and speak about the Islamic jihad doctrine, which mandates that Muslims wage war against non-Muslims and subjugate them as inferiors under the rule of Islamic law. I write and speak about the institutionalized mistreatment of women as mandated by Islamic law. I write and speak about how Islamic law calls for the murder of apostates from Islam. I write and speak about all the ways in which Islamic law contradicts principles of human rights that are otherwise universally accepted.

Which of these evils does Justin Elliott support? Or is it all of them?

With your comment in the post about Muslims waging war I automatically think of all the attacks and riots they instigate in their name. Today more than I normally would after seeing this post at Kathy Shaidle`s fivefeetoffury.com. "In other news, Lourdes marks 54,827th riot free day" It sure does point out our differences eh.

I guess that 70% American opposition just didn't just sour Mr. Elliott's grapes, but rendered them completely acetic.

The standard stupidity of all neolibs is shown by this salon writer. Not surprised!!!

Why is it the population as a whole, is never given the respect to say they supported or opposed something all on their very own.

I, for one, did not need someone to tell me or to tell why to oppose the Ground Zero Mosque. While it is this issue that made me aware of Robert Spencer, it was not his reasoning that made me oppose it. Also, I have heard the name Paula Geller but, I have no idea who she is.

I read that there were plans to build a Mosque at Ground Zero, as did many Americans. My first question was, why do they need to build it there? The place where innocent Americans were murdered in the name of Islam. This incident that has caused a war that is still raging.

Elliot needs to understand, we oppose the Mosque BECAUSE we are thinking for ourselves.

One more time for the stupid guys.

It was the Cordoba principals who started the controversy.

From the New York Times article cited by Salon.com

"A December 8th, 2009, New York Times article stated, “The location [next to Ground Zero] was precisely a key selling point for the group of Muslims,” and quoted Rauf as noting that they got a property “where a piece of the [9/11] wreckage fell.” ASMA then touted the piece in its 2009 Year End Report.

A simple Google search of the Cordoba Initiative’s website reveals the phrase “Ground Zero” to be seeded throughout as a rather inept 1999-era SEO tactic to bring people looking for information about Ground Zero to the mosque promoters’ website.

On May 5th and 6th, ASMA’s Daisy Khan was on her Twitter account, boasting first that the “new muslim center near ground zero gets unaminous vote of approval from community board one in downtown nyc,” and then that she had a “Media blitz day for ASMA / Cordoba [on the] muslim commuity center near ground zero.”

On June 15th, Daisy Khan told the Washington Post’s Sally Quinn that “a divine hand” led to the Ground Zero proximity."

Stop me if you've heard this one before.

Muslims provoke a response, hide behind their religion, claim religious persecution, and then look for a lucrative out of court settlement, or other concessions.

This story is so old it should be set to music.

Here is what Justin Elliot looks like.
http://twitter.com/account/profile_image/elliottjustin?hreflang=en

This is the left's favorite game - Pin the tail on the right wing conspirators. Oh, and just for fun, let's call 70% of the American public stupid dupes in the precess (How they square that with the fact that most of the dupes voted for the enlightened One is a conundrum).

According to Salon, the right-wing smear chefs whipped up a batch of sweet hate lies that dopey Americans (that being 70% of the population), not able to think for themselves, swallowed hook, line and sinker.

Never once are arguments presented and refuted but instead, if you are against the mosque, you are either a purveyor of hate, a racist or an idiot (probably all three).

Modern leftism is not interested in an exchange of ideas. That's why it smears conservatives with code phrases like "viciously anti-Muslim" or "conspiracy-mongering blogger." Just substitute Nazism for Islam and ask yourself if someone like Justin Elliot would pen a phrase such as "viciously anti-Nazi" or castigate someone for making a living "writing and speaking about the evils of Nazism."

The assumption by Elliot is that Islam is all right and criticism of the entire religion is narrow-minded. What Elliot won't consider is that Islam is not OK and is, as Winston Churchill knew only too well, a spiritual version of fascism. Ah, who's the narrow-minded one? Justin Elliot---just another left-wing, knowledge-challenged, trash-your-opponent, PC/MC-infested pseudo-investigator and writer. They come a dime a dozen nowadays and serve as very useful idiots in the cause of spreading Islam in the West. Very dumb.

There is much truth to the accusation against Pamela. Without her steadfast efforts, public opinion would not have been mobilized against this travesty.

We owe Pamela and Robert a great deal.

The bottom line here is that Rauf, Khan, el Gamal are LIARS. Any honest (and sensible) person who truly wanted to "build bridges" would have retracted his plan when he saw the
intensity and breadth of opposition.
He would say, "I'm sorry, I thought this was a good idea; now I see that it was not. America has spoken, we have heard, and we will find another way to 'build bridges'. I apologize for any anguish I've caused."

Have we seen anything like that? Of course not! Because Rauf is a LIAR. He doesn't love America, doesn't know the first thing about it and doesn't care. His agenda is to be "The Little Muslim That Could." That could get away with this outrage to America and victory for islam, that is. He's not an American and he's immune and aloof from the feelings of REAL Americans. That's Feisal Abdul Rauf; fake, phony, egotist, subversive, LIAR.

Everyone sees through "Imam Feisal!" His mosque is a glass-house and he is a disgusting, dishonorable and despicable sham of a man who's revealed himself for all to see. No sale, Feisal. Go fish, muslim!

So our friend at Atlas Shrugs has more influence on US public opinion than the POTUS? She could almost take that as a compliment.

It's all so simple. Blame the Jew and be done with it.

*** 2:61 ***

Where's the Jewish controlled media when ya need it? That apparently never existed, given the outburst in antisemitism over the last decade or so in our papers and on our airwaves. Frequently with Jewish commentators leading the charge, oh irony of ironies.

*** 2:65 ***

Our Judeo-Christian culture is awash in a tide of progressive secularism, which is code for vacuity and defeatism.

We're all reaping the rancid fruits of multiculturalism, George. There the putrid produce hangs on the mortified tree; hideous to behold, rotten to the core, and really starting to stink up the place.

My favorite quote of the decade: Truth is the new hate speech.

*** Bukhari Vol 2 Bk 24 Nbr 555 ***

Go get 'em, Geller.

Well I am not a fan of Ayn Rand, but we have to give full credit to Pamela for leading the charge, ably helped by Robert Spencer and others.

Opposition to Shariah should be a broad coalition movement taking in everyone from left wing socialists to right wing individualists, gays, atheists, the promiscuous, artists, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, women, sports people, feminists...everyone in our society who is threatened by Islam's claims on humanity.

There is a huge disconnect between the people and the ruling class and their MSM enablers. The ruling class shows its contempt for the ordinary people in the way they talk down to us, and even in their mannerisms. This is the kind of attitude that leads to revolutions, when all bets are off.

..Only now, instead of "Let them eat cake", it's "Force them to eat halal meat and listen to Arabic monkey screeches from minarets."

Actually, I take that back. A monkey's screech probably has more real intellectual content in it than the entirety of the Koran.

Rancid fruit, an apt metaphor, Elly. Who goes to the supermarket and carefully selects the rotten fruit? And what reputable market would even have it out? But that's exactly what this country has done with muslim immigration. And now that that bad fruit is bought & paid-for, and we have to live with the smell--now--they want to force us to EAT it, too.

Every time I see a news-post about the latest islam-related problem in this country, the same thought repeats in my head. It's so simple, so basic that it begs the question:

"Would this be happening if they weren't here?"

And the answer is as plain as day, isn't it?

I'm glad to see you posting here again. You have been missed!

G

I can see that the American political class and mainstream media are just as good dhimmis as our Indian counterparts. I always looked up to America as the lone beacon for freedom and justice, but I am disappointed. We infidels CANNOT afford to appease these slimey muslims.

Elliott is an IDIOT, pure and simple ...

I'll never forget my initial reaction to the Ground Zero mosque, it was that of total shock and disgust after hearing about it on the *news*, which had NOTHING to do with Pamela Geller. Spare us, Elliott!

I was disgusted then, with this mosque project, and I am disgusted now. The whole thing is simply beyond belief.

Holy cripes! I didn't think I'd been away THAT long! LOL!

Anyway, I just now saw your message over at ER'sB! I was going to beg you to PLEASE post a comment because I'm SO sick of ALWAYS seeing poor "GusR's" comment up top (no offense GusR)!

I wrote a very long-winded reply to you, but I think I'll just post it in reply to you on my blog, so as not to take up so much space here. Check over there!

God bless Pamela and SIOA. Let the resistance arise!!!

One day some preening leftoid moron is going to actually open a Koran and their head will explode.

Thanks Pamela, and Robert, for standing against this insensitive new assault on Ground Zero by Islamic supremacist punks

Opposition to Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero is all Pamela Geller's fault
..................

What crap. *No offense* meant to Ms. Geller, whose work, along with that of Robert Spencer, has been indispensable in this fight.

But up to 70% of Americans—*including 55% of registered Democrats*—are opposed to this mosque. The idea that these people, especially, would be bowled over by the name Pamela Geller, is ludicrous.

Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer have been important here *because they got the word out*. Most Americans, just on hearing the proposal, have been very troubled.

Those who have taken the least attempt to look any deeper—at, for instance, Imam Rauf's refusal to condemn Hamas, or that the funding is hazy and may come from places such as Saudi Arabia—only have more cause for alarm.

The list of names of those who have come out against the mosque is now very long—and many of the names are far more recognizable to the average person than is Pamela's.

The idea that Pamela is either a widespread draw in and of herself—or that she is some sort of Svengali who has been able to draw Newt Gingrich, John Bolton, John McCain, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, or most of the others who have come out against this appalling proposal is ridiculous.

For myself, I do trust Pamela Geller enough that if she was concerned about an issue, I would certainly take a hard look at it.

But that wasn't necessary in this case. I had already read Imam Rauf's book, "What's Right with Islam Is What's Right with America"—and I found it the single most meretricious book I have ever read—which is saying a great deal.

I think Islam may well have overplayed its hand with this mosque—even many Americans who have stayed oddly silent about the Jihad threat are waking up over this issue.

It may have been a mosque too far, to coin a phrase.

I will always be deeply grateful to Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, and SIOA for their indefatigable work on this issue—but the idea that the opposition to Cordoba House is "their fault" is nothing but an attempt to trivialize the groundswell of revulsion over this triumphal mosque.

It may have been a mosque too far, to coin a phrase.

I agree. The ensuing and widespread controversy over this abomination might be the best thing that could have ever happened to open the eyes and minds of millions of sleeping Americans. When people are informed, educated, and aware of what is happening, they will respond appropriately but Americans have been egregiously misled by their own leaders and the despicable mainstream media about islam. They were smart enough to see through some of it but now they're getting the hideous picture of islam that should have been fully exposed after 9-11. Evil cannot be masked forever regardless of its source and the muslim fifth column in America, in their infinite arrogance, have done more to damage the image and reputation of islam than any 'right-wing' islamophopes could ever do! Whether the temple of Satan gets built or not, islam has suffered a severe PR setback. I just love it when the supremacist pricks get too cocky. Now the slimy 'king' of Saudi Arabia will have to spend some of his mosque and dawa money on a new taqiya campaign.

The minute I read this stunning The End Of Nations story I said that Jihad Watch's readers absolutely have to have an opportunity to see this link: http://hubpages.com/hub/Global-Union-The-End-Of-Nations

El,

Well, I'm steamed! I just wrote you a long-winded reply over on your blog...and every time I hit post...it gives me an error message that says, "Sorry, Internet Explorer cannot accept this data." ARRGGHH!

I'll try again in the morning, sigh...

time for the tiger to roar.

If the fools like Justin Elliott think it's only *Americans* who are angry about this obscene and blasphemous mosque - which is intended to squat right in the zone where the ashes of the murdered dead came sifting down in clouds - then they need to find out that it isn't.

I'm an Australian. I'm hopping mad: ten of *my* fellow-citizens were butchered that day by allahu-akbaring jihadists, too.

On Sunday afternoon I was trawling the internet trying to find out the names and details of at least some of the 300 or so *foreign* nationals who were murdered along with the Americans.

I found the ten Aussies, and I found the names of the five German and five Israeli dead, and the twenty-four Canadians, but I wasn't able to find anything like a full list of the *Indian* citizens who were killed, though I saw one hell of a lot of recognisably Indian (and recognisably NON-MUSLIM) names in the three major lists of dead that I found on the net (none of the lists seemed to have a full and completely accurate breakdown by nationality). I know that as many as 41 Indians are thought to have died - do you know whether there's a full list somewhere, with names, ages, professions and town and state of origin given? Your national press would surely have listed them all at the time, or on one of the anniversaries?

If you know or can find out the names of Indian victims of 9/11, I think it would be good to post the full list on one of the threads here that relate to the 9/11 mosque.

Indian-Americans, and Indians who may happen to be in New York City on Sept 11 2010, should make a point of being at the rally. Hold up the Indian flag alongside the American flag, and a banner with all 41 names.

And maybe there could be some kind of rally in India itself, outside the US embassy in Delhi, to present letters to the Ambassador expressing total disapproval of the Ground Zero Muslim jihad victory mosque.

I am 100% sure that the families of the non-Muslim Indian citizens - whether Hindu, Sikh, secular or Christian - who perished on 9/11 in the Towers or on the planes, ought to be FURIOUS at the very thought that Muslims build a mosque anywhere *near* the site of that vast funeral pyre and site of Muslim jihadist mass-murder.

This mosque proposal should produce pure rage not only in the USA but right across the world, in every non-Muslim country that had even one citizen murdered by Muslims in the jihad raid of 9/11.

It's an insult to the entire non-Muslim *world*.

I hadn't realized, until I started reading, slowly, through the three in memoriam sites that I visited, some with mini-bios of the victims, just how apposite 'World Trade Centre' was, as a title for those buildings.

It wasn't just the people who were actual foreign nationals.

Judging from the names, something like half the *American* citizens who died there were people who were migrants or the children of migrants, from all over the world - from East Asia, South Asia, Europe, Central Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Pacific...

Many were obviously the bright, driven children of migrants, kids who had studied hard and worked their tails off and *earned* their American citizenship, and had made it right to the top in every way; one of the bright young hotshots was Chinese-American, the daughter of a 'garment-worker'. Then there was a Jamaican guy, a mechanic, who was *delighted* with having a job in the world's tallest building; a very humble job, but he was so proud of himself for having *that* job, *there*; apparently when his work took him to the roof, he'd stand there and sing out, 'I'm the king of the world!'

"It may have been a mosque too far, to coin a phrase."

Good one, Susan, and 100% apt.

If the Mohammedans had just left well-enough alone - but they didn't. They just had to gun for Ground Zero! And now it's biting them in the azz! So enjoying watching them squirm, and our Muslim president, too!

Just couldn't happen to a nicer group of people!

...............

Very true, Dumbledore's Army.

I have even heard the ludicrous claim that only *New Yorkers* should have any concern about this, meaning that Americans like myself—who live on the other side of the country—cannot possibly care about 9/11 or what may be built on Ground Zero.

If this ugly mosque were built, it would be taken as an act of triumphalism over not just the United States or even the West, but over the whole of Dar-al-Harb.

For instance, Islam took over many churches and temples, all over the world, over the centuries—but there is no doubt that certain mosques have been greater symbols than others. I believe "Cordoba House"—or the even more blandly named Park51—would join the Dome of the Rock (built over the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem) and the Ayasofya Mosque (the former Hagia Sophia—which was the most spectacular church in Christendom until at least the rebuilding of St. Peter's in Rome during the renaissance.

Here are two accounts about the importance to Muslims of taking Hagia Sophia:

The prophet of God in Muslim religion, Muhammad, had prophesied that the first Muslim to pray in Hagia Sophia would go to paradise. Since then, it was a great ambition for Muslim leaders to get Hagia Sophia.
...

On 29 May 1453, The Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmet II, conquered Constantinople after a 54 day siege. He directly went to the ancient Byzantine cathedral of Hagia Sophia. When he saw a man hacking the stones of the church and saying that this was a temple for infidels, Mehmet II ordered the looting to be stopped and the church to be converted into a mosque.
...............

And we all know the hysterical "defense" of the Dome of the Rock mosque—where even Jews praying at the Temple's original western wall brings out mobs of rock-throwing Muslims.

Here's what the appalling Imam Rauf had to say to a Muslim audience about the proposed Ground Zero mosque:

"A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa in the Heart of America Post 9/11."

Sounds like Muslim triumphalism to me.

Oh Jeez, that sucks! Maybe you should try what I learned to do, the hard way, a while ago: If you have a long, involved post, copy it and paste it to a Word doc or something, as backup, before trying to post it/anything, anywhere. I'm a long-winded poster myself (LOL) and after losing more than a few biggies to the "ether" I started doing that and it has saved me a LOT of time and frustration!

We in Australia haven't forgotten the Sept 11 attack nor do we regard it as something to be treated with indifference.

Here are two stories about a team of Aussie firefighters who are joining in a memorial run all the way across the States to honour the firefighters of NYC who were killed in the line of duty on 11 September 2001.

Right-o to all those who believe that the majority of the GZM opposition comes from people who had formulated their opinion by themselves. This is not to say that Sharon Geller would not be capable of informing the larger public of the important facts, but most of us did not need much prodding.I think that people who are free-thinking enough to have had a heads-up on most prior muzlim activity are already primed for the next stage in islame's power tactics. Fortunately, leaders like Sharon make sure that Americans are aware of what the dire consequences will be if we don't get off of our asses and do something.

My apologies, I mean Pamela Gellar, not Sharon. (I know a Sharon,LOL) Sorry, Pamela. Blessings to you always!

There is no way that a 'global union' would ever work although the world's wealthy, elitist intellectuals have been craving such a miscreation for decades. Their motives have never been clear to me. They have been inching in the direction of a one-world dystopia by flooding the white, modern West with the non-white, retrograde Third World and by introducing multiculturalism, political correctness, and moral relativism to facilitate their social engineering exploits, and to prepare the unwashed masses for their bleak future.

They have almost completely succeeded in brainwashing two generations of Western people to believe that the white man and Christianity are the roots of all evil and that 'minorities' (all non-white people) are victims of white oppression. That is beyond ludicrous since white people are the true 'minority', comprising less than 10% of the global population.

I hope I'm dead by the time the New World Order becomes reality. I simply cannot envision a global monoculture and government run by an elitist oligarchy and enforced by secret police and storm troopers. Using the worthless, despicable United Nations as a model, we have proof that the nations of the world cannot agree on anything so it makes perfect sense to merge them all into one behemoth, global entity and call it utopia.
