At FrontPage this morning I dissect Obama's message to Muslims on the beginning of Ramadan:
This year's Ramadan message from Barack Obama is the latest in a long line of warmly complimentary communications that he has addressed to the Islamic world over the last eighteen months. Reciprocally warm and friendly greetings have yet to arrive from those to whom Obama has addressed these messages, but the President appears undaunted. Eighteen months into his presidency, he seems to be clinging more determinedly than ever to the idea that soft words about Islam will turn away the jihad - despite the total lack of confirming evidence.Just as he did in his June 2009 address to the Islamic world in Cairo, where he used the greeting by which one Muslim is to greet another, as-salaamu aleikum (peace be upon you), Obama in his Ramadan message adopted Islamic terminology. "Ramadan Kareem," he said near the beginning of the message, and ended it with "may God's peace be upon you." Clearly he is doing his best to give the impression that he comes in friendship. And he doesn't stop there.
Again characteristically, Obama then retails a few platitudes lifted straight out of a ninth-grade World Religions textbook: "Ramadan is a time when Muslims around the world reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith, and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God. This is a time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared. But Ramadan is also a time of intense devotion and reflection - a time when Muslims fast during the day and pray during the night; when Muslims provide support to others to advance opportunity and prosperity for people everywhere."
One may legitimately wonder how past Ramadans have resulted in any advancement of "opportunity and prosperity for people everywhere." In reality, it contravenes Islamic law to give zakat, the almsgiving that is one of the pillars of Islam and is required of every Muslim, to non-Muslims. That's why it is easy to find Western governmental agencies and Christian charitable organizations busy building and staffing schools and hospitals in impoverished parts of Africa and Asia, but oil-rich Muslim countries have never undertaken similar endeavors. With the sharp divide in Islam between believers and unbelievers, such that Muslims are commanded to be "merciful to one another, but ruthless to the unbelievers" (Qur'an 48:29), there simply is no basis in Islamic law for the idea that Islam fosters the advance of "opportunity and prosperity for people everywhere."
Heedless, however, of the inaccuracy of his words, Obama charged ahead and compounded it. Ramadan's rituals of fasting and prayer, he said, "remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam's role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings."
Here again, one wonders how the designation of non-Muslims as "the most vile of created beings" (Qur'an 98:6) advances human dignity, much less tolerance or justice. The command that Muslims must fight against Jews and Christians until they pay a religion-based poll tax, jizya, "with willing submission and feel themselves subdued" (Qur'an 9:29) likewise seems to militate against the idea of universal human dignity that Obama professes to have discovered in Islam.
Yet still his flights of fancy weren't over. "Ramadan," he claimed, "is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality." Diversity? While it is undoubtedly true that people of all races and nations have embraced Islam, when they do so, they at least partially Arabize. Islam is an Arabic religion; the Qur'an, as it tells us about itself repeatedly, is an "Arabic Qur'an." Muslims must pray in Arabic, and recite the Qur'an in Arabic, whether they're weathermen from Minnesota or fishermen from Indonesia. Conversion to Islam led a black American to change his name to Muhammad Ali, a name he undoubtedly shares with innumerable Arabs, Pakistanis, Afghans, and others. A recent meeting of Southeast Asian dignitaries showed participants with names indigenous to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the other countries in the region. Only the Indonesian participant had a name that had nothing to do with the indigenous culture of the country of his birth, and everything to do with Arabia. What's more, throughout Islamic history Arabs have claimed for themselves a privileged position within the Islamic community, and have regarded non-Arab Muslims as second-class. Racial equality? Not by a long shot.
"And here in the United States," Obama continued, "Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country." Islam has always been a part of America? Really? Maybe Robert Gibbs will be so kind as to provide us with a list of the Muslim Founding Fathers, the Muslim heroes of the American Revolution, the names of the Muslims killed fighting in the Civil War (for the North, no doubt - you know, "racial equality"!), the Muslim Senators and Congressmen who served with distinction in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - I'm sure the Obama Administration will have no trouble coming up with all that, will they? And I trust it will also contain a list of those "extraordinary contributions" that Muslims have made to our country. Aside from being the impetus for some extraordinary innovations in airport security, I can't think of any.
But I doubt that one will be on Obama's list.
Given Obama's history and heritage, I will bet you a six pack of Pepsi that his Ramadan message is more for Kafir consumption than for middle east Muslims.
It is funny to hear from a culture of "Johns" and "Joshuas" and "Sarahs" and "Rebeccas" about how foolish it is to adopt Arabic names.
I suppose if they're Hebrew, it's fine?
Hebrew values were a part of America from the beginning, due to Christianity being a Hebraic faith.
But hey, "Yusef" is just "Joseph", so you have a Hebrew name as well.
Perhaps Obama is referring to the Barbary pirate hijackings, kidnappings and wars that took place in the early history of our country. Did he mention that in Cairo or in any of his Ramadan Karim messages? :-)
"that Islam has always been part of America"
The above is one of Hussein's most egregious lies. In fact, a reason that America is so great is that it's had NOTHING to do with Islam.
Excuse me, but I really detest our mendacious, pro-Islam "president."
"American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."
Oh, really? Could you provide some examples, please?
It's unbelievable that Hussein and Gibbs can get away with these generalizations without providing any specific examples.
I wish I had the nerve to send RS's last paragraph to Team Hussein/Gibbs.
"I suppose if they're Hebrew, it's fine?"
America is a Judeo-Christian country. It's not Barbaric Islamic.
Get it?
Yes,w/out them we wouldn't have had a standing Navy as Thomas Jefferson was completely against having one initially, but for intense Barbary depredations on American shipping......Shared values,I guess he conveniently forgot the man he bowed before didn't outlaw slavery until 1962..................
How fast can we get rid of this treasonous psychotic out of office?
Well, if they only enforced prohibitions on slavery and involuntary servitude, as we do, then they would similarly find good servile labor as hard to find in the Muslim world as it is in America.
That Lincoln and Emancipation have made it so darn hard this past century-and-a-half to exploit others as chattel and to lord it over them, as befits a Massa and his Mizzes among The Best of Peoples.

Obama: The sweetest music I ever heard was the Muezzin!
http://www.open-speech.com/en/threads/548311-Obama-Die-s%C3%BCsseste-Musik-die-ich-je-h%C3%B6rte-war-der-Muezzinruf!
Obama's adorable speechwriters were probably reading this farce about the history of Muslims in American when they wrote that line.
This was among your very best.
O'Umma, America's exit strategy from reality.
"Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."
Erm, yes. I am sitting in Europe and have even more difficulty coming up with someting. Perhaps someone could enlighten me? And no jokes about bombs, explosions and such, please!
Ah, perhaps Obama is referring to Rageh Omaar´s "An Islamic History of Europe"?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries/features/islamic-history-europe.shtml
You see: we owe modern Europe to Islam! Bless be. Islam didn´t destroy anything they came across in the ancient Greek, Latin-speaking and Egyptian world, and we are to celebrate their efforts and decry their being thrown out of Spain and Sicily. Everything good and modern in Europe has Islamic roots.
The need to celebrate Arabs and Islam does come across as rather desperate but that is nothing new. No wonder he was BBC correspondent in Baghdad during the last Gulf war: I remember his constant coughing calling attention to the smoke left by Amriki bombs and stuff.
Anyway: Ramadan. Some few schools in Denmark have sent Muslim pupils home with a note saying the school requests the children are not sent hungry to school: or the school shall feed them.
Today, my city: Sun up at 5:47 ...Sun down at 20:57. A long day for a child going hungry. A couple hours more than in Mecca, the new center of the world entire.
Obama continued, "Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."
First I thinks @#$& well, well, if it aint Mr Pinocchio hisself....but then I's worried about all them innocent folks who don't know nothin about Mislam and getting the wrong notions. And the Mislamists, they knows this is nothin but horseshit and they aint fooled.
But Mr Obama's nose has gained in stature. Without doubt.
In Kerala ( India ) most often after Friday sermons they go berserk killing Infidels.
Obviously rulers thriving on muslims support talk about commissions of enquiry & everything gets forgotten.
An Englishman rightly said " commission of enquiry is like going to the toilet...You sit on it , make some noises... and forget it ".
Muslims have tried to produce some evidence that a Muslim here or there was found to have existed in America during and before its Constitutional founding, but the evidence is scant at best. The Barbary Coast pirates represented the first declaration of war by Thomas Jefferson.
Muslims are not to be found in any development of America's History with the exception of slave trading. There only appeared a tiny enclave of Muslims in the 1920s and the first Mosques are not to be found in America until the late 1950's. One is hard pressed to find any substantive contributions by Muslims in America prior to the 21st Century.
There is an article on yahoo right now about the world's current demographics and future projections. Curiously, everyone's mentioned but...you guessed it, Muslims!
Here's a comment from someone who noticed that glaring omission, as I did:
"The native populations are shrinking, the Muslim populations in Europe and other western countries are growing like gangbusters. Wonder why that wasn't mentioned in the article? That is a factor with potential negative impact."
Yeah, hmmm...wonder why yahoo didn't see fit to mention the over-populating Mohammedans?
You know they purposely did that. Talk about ignoring the elephant in the room in an article on demographics! In the future, this time period, the early 21st century, will be known as "Age of Stupidity."
I do believe that the muslims of the world have nothing but contempt for this guy. They do as they like, notwithstanding his ignorant speeches. They have no respect no appreciation of him. He is a laughing stock. A dhimmi fool.
I'd like to have hopes Buraq Hussein's successor would read this excellent column and not blind themselves to the truth contained in it...
But when I recall that Bush yapped nonstop that mahoundianism was a "religion" of peace, that Clinton had nice things to say about it and that perhaps no US president since John Quincy Adams has ever seemed to have even slightly grasped the size and kind of threat that mahoundianism poses to the civilized world, perhaps I shouldn't keep my hopes too high (unless Allen West or Tom Tancredo is actually on the ballot in a presidential election.)
Is there a word in English for a man who having a choice of being a run-of-the-mill official and all-time-spectacularly-idiotic president chooses the latter?
"Dhimmi" ...no, that´s not an English word.
...or who would choose the appellation of "The Dunce of the Century" over "2008-2012 President Whatshisname"?
Steffen, he is not a dhimmi. He is a full-bred Quisling.
Not so much closet-muslim as muslim-closet.
"Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."
Oh boy, lies, lies and more lies!!! This administration is all about lies and nothing else. It constantly lies to the American public without batting even an eyelash.
"Muslims have been part of America and they they have made extraordinary contributions to American life" - what an absurd statement and where have they learned it from, may be from a text book from Saudi Arabia. America and the world would be better off without Muslim culture of mayhem, murder, rape, honor killing, etc directly coming from their ideal man Mo/allah.
What a sad state of affairs - Americans could not see through the lying facade of O and elected him. Not so sure if Americans have even now caught on to the lies of this administration!!!
Saudi Arabia did outlaw slavery in 1962; however, anyone who has traveled in the Arabian Peninsula can easily discern that openly, all real work is performed by foreign imports (dhimmis and laborers whose status is virtually akin to slavery). Many of my friends tell me that behind the doors of homes, slavery still exists on a large scale (an immense scale if you consider the lot of women, but that is another story).
I never cease to be amazed at the total lack of interest in factual history among us in the West. The African slave trade with the West lasted 2-300 years and involved millions. This indeed was a terrible tragedy, but the descendants of slaves in this country have all the rights and privileges of citizenship (I am making a point, not looking for a lecture on equal rights, etc.).
In the Arab world, the African slave trade lasted from 700 AD to the present (Darfur, anyone?) and involved many more millions of persons. Furthermore, virtually all male slaves were castrated to prevent them from becoming sexually involved with any women and either depriving the master of his pleasure or fathering a child, so the need for fresh slaves was (and is) unremitting.
Anyone can research this issue, yet it remains beyond understanding why there is no great outrage over this reality of history. Many in the West practice verbal and written self-criticism over the slave trade; I have never heard similar statements emanating from leaders in any OIC country. Another example of humanity vs. inhumanity?
Isn’t true that there are two countries in the world where slavery is still legal.
The Sudan and Mauritania?
Both members of the OIC.
Conversion to Islam led a black American to change his name to Muhammad Ali...
Indeed, he changed his name from one of American history's greatest abolitionists to one of world history's greatest slave owners.
Islam makes you do stupid things like that.
Yep, our PC media always wants to avoid the word Muslim like it was a plague and media will get infected by it.
Speaking of Muslim population and demographics, it has in creased four times since independence in1947 where as the average population increase is about 2.5 time. Muslim population has gone up from about 40 million in 1947 to about 150 million now. At this rate India would be converted to Islam by sheer demographic time bomb!!!
When Muslims were given a separate country of their own, Pakistan, why were Muslims allowed to live in India - just to show how tolerant Hindus were towards the former butchers of Hindus? The folly of Hindu leaders of the time was astounding, especially after knowing Muslims for almost 1000 years. This is not a 20/20 hind sight but the behavior of Muslims towards Hindus was very clear to every Hindu and even now one can see what they are doing in present "secular" India, killing of Hindus on any pretext is normal in any part of India and there are no repercussions. And if by any chance Hindus retaliate then the whole world is after Hindus blaming them for everything that Muslims do to Hindus. Kind of weird PC logic that infects Indian leaders and the media also.
The lesson for the West is to learn from Indian experience and stop all Muslim immigration in their countries as a first step for future survival.
What are the chances that West is willing to learn some thing from history in order to survive??? I am not holding my breath!!!
And 55 more in which it is illegal (wink, wink)
The uninformed see the "Crusades" as a horrible period of injustice and religious bigotry primarily by Christians against innocent Muslim peoples. However, although there certainly were events that shouldn't have taken place, fundamentally it was a series of wars against Islamic aggression against Christians living in the mid-east. This war actually continues to this very day and the Islamic drive for conquest has not diminished.
Here in America our foundational culture stems from a basically "Christian Europe" world view. This world view is based upon the belief that Jesus Christ is/was the Son of God and that what is accepted as "Right & Wrong" is defined in His teachings & the Ten Commandments. This being the case, an individual can actually say to a king, "you are wrong" if the king's conduct strays from the teaching of Scripture. It is here that we find our freedom. That is when we live in agreement with God's Law.
The non-believer has his feet firmly planted on thin air without this external definition of right & wrong. If individual preference really is to be our standard, we are in fact LOST. We must agree on the basics.
Jesus taught that at the judgment He would separate the "sheep" from the "goats". Perhaps that process has already begun.
Robert Spencer’s dissection of the Obama Ramadan greetings here was lucid and unrelenting, but I’d like to add some observations, stopping first to note the funniest phrase in what was, otherwise, necessarily – given the nature of the material to work with – unrelievedly bleak: "Obama then retails a few platitudes lifted straight out of a ninth-grade World Religions textbook."
There was, to begin with the end, the final stark stop-talking-nonsense put-up-or-shut-up challenge to Obama and his speechifying crew, that is the challenge that they provide supporting evidence, chapter and verse, local habitations and names, for this assertion:
"And here in the United States Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."
This phrase is one more illustration of a larger problem: when it comes to Islam, Barack Obama apparently does not intend to abandon, bur rather to continue to employ, that Get-Me-Rewrite approach he used in his Cairo speech to the world's Muslims, possibly the falsest, least-true-to-history speech ever delivered by an American president. In trying to get or be- as he likes to say, with his handful of favorite phrases, this is certainly among them -- "on the right side of history" [as if, you see, history has a pre-determined "right side" and we had all "better get on it" coute-que-coute or we will be judged accordingly]-- he, Barack Obama, is perfectly willing to re-write history in the true, and not historical determinist sense -- that is, the record of the past, as best as we can determine that record, and to make sense of it, to give the accumulated facts meaning. A little more undiluted Thucydides or Gibbon or Macaulay, and a little less watered-down historical materialism or castroesque ("History will absolve me") derivations thereof, might be nice. There is no "right side of history." There are only fallible men, who should do what they can, learn what they can, prepare themselves as best they can through study of history, and observation of the men and events today, to better prepare themselves when they achieve high office, and presume, then -- as we too often presume they are ready to do so -- to be able to properly instruct and protect us.
No, Barack Obama must learn that his Get-Me-Rewrite approach to history, that is what happened in the past, and his banal sense of “a right side of history” meaning History, meaning the fates, meaning the inexorable movement and development of peoples ever Upward and Onward (as the New Yorker used to put it) and Obama appears to believe, ten years into what promises to be what I have frequently called here the Century of Sauve Qui Peut) that History majusculized, History in the future, is something already foreordained and it is up to All Of Us to Get On Its Right Side, or else be condemned to “being on the wrong side,” which is to say the dustbin, of – what else – History, and also history.
Now do you want to entrust your destiny to someone who plays so fast and so loose with the history of your own country, in the service of what he sees as a higher goal, the Rodney-King goal of Why Can’t We All Get Along? And if it is deemed necessary, in furtherance of that goal, to misrepresent, or to lie about, the Muslim “contribution” to the United States, or the supposed wonderfulness, tolerance, lying about, Muslims and Islam, in the hopes of somehow winning them over (how well that has been working out, all over the world), and at the same time, managing to deceive Americans about their won reality so that they will not become properly, or as Obama and John Brennan, Special Deputy Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Terrorism,, and so many others in this monumentally ignorant –and-confused-about Islam administration – though smug as all get out in its own certainties as to how to proceed -- dangerous, when it comes to Islam, and to the history of his own country, which, this self-proclaimed Citizen of the World may need to be reminded, is the United States.
And finally, in the article above, perhaps the most important theme for practical purposes, is that of Islam as a vehicle of Arab supremacism. It is a theme which, if the American government -- in this Administration or the next -- chose to halt the squandering of men, money, materiel, in Iraq (get out, and don't come back, and let the local games begin) and Afghanistan (get out, and only come back, from time to time, in the air, intermittently, leaving calling cards as the need arises) could be exploited, in a hundred sundry ways, in an attempt to weaken the hold of Islam on the 80% of the world's Muslims who are non-Arab. Some of those non-Arabs are already well aware of how the Arabs, bringing the "gift of Islam," tried to impose a cultural and linguistic imperialism. Indeed, in Iran, where the disenchantment with Islam is widespread and growing, and the contempt for Arabs of long standing, the awareness of Arab indifference to, or even contempt for, the language, literature, history of Persia, and the national narrative includes, even emphasizes, the extra-literary feats of Persian poets, above all Firdowsi, who with his epic of the Persian kings, the Shahnameh, is believed to have helped Iran preserve the Persian language from Arab cultural imperialism. And there are others, too, intellectuals in Malaysia and Indonesia, who have occasionally written in anger about what they see as the makeover, by Muslims, of their own selves, to make them into little Arabs, with Arab names and Arab ways that so obviously come from the desire to conform to the dictates, that is in this case the Sunnah, of Islam.
The article above mocks, rightly, Obama's nonsense, and that whole business about "a faith known for great diversity and racial equality" which any Kurd, any Berber, or any black African Muslim in Darfur or Mali or Mauritania or for that matter in Egypt, or possibly those black African Muslims who were held as slaves in Saudi Arabia right up until 1962, when pressure from Western, non-Muslim nations, forced Saudi Arabia to formally give up slavery, thus "officially" freeing not a few, but hundreds of thousands of black slaves. Does Barack Obama know nothing about the greatest slave trade of all, the Arab slave trade in east and central Africa? Does he not know that it started centuries before, and ended -- only under the pressure of the Great Powers of Europe -- far more than a century later, and that the numbers of those taken away were far greater than in the Atlantic Slave Trade? Is he aware of the study, "The Hideous Trade," of the Arab slave trade mainly devoted to the seizure, by the Arabs, of young black boys who were then castrated in the bush, and then forced by slave coffle to march to the coasts, where they would be taken by dhow to Muscat and Oman, or other ports, and then on to the slave markets of Islam -- in Jeddah, in Cairo, in Damascus, in Istanbul. Does he know, or not know, that only 10% of those seized actually survived to arrive at those slave markets? Does he know that it was the Royal Navy (see J. B. Kelly, Britain and the Persian Gulf, 1795-1880) that suppressed the Arab slave trade, by interdicting it, though the Arabs did what they could to keep carrying on that trade, and of course they did not end the practice of slavery -- sanctioned by the practice of Muhammad himself, that Perfect Man, al-insan al-kamil.
Barack Obama had an absentee father from Kenya who called himself a Muslim, but, given his time and place of origin, observed a version of Islam that was a hazy and easygoing affair, not the full, undiluted version, the truest one, the one we find all over the Arab lands and, presently (but possibly not for long) in Iran, and in such places as have no other non-Islamic identity to cling or appeal to, as in Pakistan, or in some parts even of sub-Saharan Africa where the easygoing syncretists have been replaced, thanks to sums provided by the Saudis or by Colonel Qaddafy, by the unyielding, intolerant, and deeply-hostile-to-Infidel s, real Islam that for so long we did not understand.
Compare, for example, the practice of the Muslim Yorubas, and their attitude toward Christian Yorubas, in Nigeria, with the practice and attitudes of the Fulani and the Hausa, or compare the mosques now in Niger with what were there, before the Saudi money arrived, even five or ten years ago, or compare the Muslim population in formerly largely Christian Togo, a population now being given subventions by Khaddafy, who has been supplying electronic amplification for the Call to Prayer, and building mosques, and sending many of the Christian Togolese into quiet despair over the situation, as the present dictator of the country, Mr. Son of Former Dictator, runs his Libyan-supplied Lamborghini back and forth, over the few dozen miles of paved road.
And Obama has met, even made sure were placed, in his Administration, a few young smiling American Muslims, with occasional walk-on parts for such examples of adult-onset Islam as Ingrid Mattson, or the well-pleased sincere pleasers such as young Master Rashad Hussain, who tried to rewrite a little history himself,in attempting to efface mention of his own past statements from a magazine article, and only fessed up when he absolutely had to, when he knew he was caught. Now I don’t know what emotional and mental desarroi lies behind the phenomenon of adult-onset Islam, and I suspect there are a long list of reasons., but I would not take Ingrid Mattson’s version of Islam, the one she offers to students at the Hartford Seminary, as anything like what C. Snouck Hurgronje or Joseph Schacht or Arthur Jeffrey, or for that matter the Sheikh Al-Azhzar, or Yusuf al-Qaradawi, or the Ayatollah Khomeini, or a half-million Muslim clerics all over the world, take it to mean. And I would be skeptical of the deep knowledge of Islam to be provided by Rashad Hussaini, who according to reports was apparently genuinely shocked at his first encounter with Muslims abroad, as part of his new duties as the American envoy to the world's Muslims -- a roving commission indeed-- and particularly with their virulent hatred of Jews, based on Islamic texts. His surprise is telling, and if sincere, it reflects his naivete and =his deep ignorance of Islam. But he is a Muslim of Indian descent, who grew up in the United States, and apparently not in a community, or a society, suffused with Islam -- though his own family may be another matter. His Islam, then, may not be a guide to him as to how a billion other people take their Islam, and it is unclear, even though he proudly proclaims that he is a hafiz, if the text he spent so long memorizing in Arabic meant much to him, if he understood any of the Arabic, or if on his own he has actually found out the meaning of that text, has studied the Hadith, has carefully considered Muhammad and his words and acts, and his role as the Perfect Man, for all Muslims, for all time. I am willing to believe that he really was "shocked" and that tells you that he is not a guide to Islam, for Obama or even for himself. He does not know how to deal with those Muslims who, unlike himself, are not prepared to make compromises, are not prepared to take their Islam on the rocks, diluted by ignorance and the requirements of careerist self-interest which no doubt play a considerable role in the calculations of Rashad Hussain.
He is not the only court Muslim, either. In New York, at the Court of the Mayor, there have recently been the Raufs, Feisal Abdul and Daisy, who so cleverly courted the naïve (there are few so naïve as the very very rich) Mayor Bloomberg and his current public consort, deploying the usual weapons – soft voices, liquid brown eyes of great sincerity – and artfully hiding their deep of the arts of ingratiation and ostentatious sincerity (as do the Raufs, Daisy and Feisal Abdul. How this deeply impressed Mayor Bloomberg, with his own private demons from his youth, and memor4ies of antisemitism, and they played on that, encouraging his emotional – and intellectually confused – conflating of the victims of antisemitism in childhood Medford, with today’s leading carriers of antisemitism, who in Bloomberg’s simpleminded understanding, should be seen as “the new Jews” who are themselves victims of a cruel and baseless “Islamophobia.”
And the final source of Obama’s knowledge about Islam, the one which he thinks entitles him to talk about it (I’m leaving out the smiling Arab diplomatic corps, with all those protestations about the “real Islam”) is his childhood, or three years of it, in Jakarta, Indonesia. He attended a school there, but it was a most unrepresentative school, with plenty of foreign, Christian children along with the Muslims, which meant that those Muslim parents of those children were of the most secular and easygoing kind, and so too was the atmosphere in the school. And the school was in Jakarta, the most urban and urbane part of Indonesia outside of Hindu-peopled Bali. And Jakarta is in Indonesia, which not only has been far less ferociously pure in its Islam – but under Arab influence, Arab money, the dissemination through modern technology of the full message of Islam, that appears to be changing --- partly because the heritage of pre-Islamic civilizations, the Hindu and Buddhist monuments, and the pre-Islamic customs that are sweetly maintained, and even the music of gamelans that bespeak a refusal to enforce all of the prohibitions (including that on music) in Islam, as taken straight. And of course, almost all of us, including those who grew up in the Soviet Union and then grew to hate Communism – have fond memories of our childhood, as long as one or both parent s were reasonably decent. Why should Barack Obama be any different? But it is up to him to realize that, and not to confuse happy childhood memories in a most unrepresentative only quasi-Muslim school, in a most unrepresentative Muslim city, in a most unrepresentative Muslim country (and at a time when secularism was at its height, and Islam most subdued). It is up to Obama himself to read the texts of Islam, to spend a few days with the Jihad verses of the Qur’an, and to understand that Musilms take this seriously, that hundreds of millions of people take the Qur’an as the literal and uncreated and immutable Word of God. And it is up to Obama to read, over a few weeks, a few hundred Hadith, and to learn about the distinctions in levels of “authenticity.” It is up to Obama to read 5.32 with, instead of without, 5.33, and to come to understand how Muslims interpret that verse 2.256 (“there is no compulsion in religion”), and not to rely on the smiling plausible people, or the confused and shallow machiavels, the john-brennans, who think we can misrepresent Islam to Muslims, and have them believe it, and misrepresent Islam to non-Muslims, and convince them that their history, their civiilisation, and the Islamic threat to that history and that civilization, are not what the intelligent and well-prepared know them to be.
We’ve had it with Obama’s lesson in American history, we’ve had it with his lesson in Interfaith Healing Through Nonsense and Lies, we’ve had it. Not just the holy-rolling tea-partiers. as he and his wildest supporters may fondly believe, but many others, with their numbers swelling- - through a refusal to participate in the farce and an insistence on learning at least as much about Islam as a billion other, not terribly literate, people have managed to do.
This has got to stop. Obama has got to do what Gabby Hayes once suggested: Come on in and set a spell. Set a spell, and set yourself to school about Islam. Your ignorance, your refusal to learn and to make policies on the basis of reality, is costing us trillions, and in both a figurative and a literal sense, is killing us.
It's Reading Period. Get cracking. Do all the work you didn't you during the regular term. Remember, soon enough it will be Exam Time. We'll let you know when.
Hugh, you are really well-informed. You must have some impressive credentials. What were those again?
good morning Hugh! while I agree with you and Robert what Islam is all about, what did you expect that Obama should have said? any other president would say something very similar. this is politics.
m
Your comments, Hugh, point to what I think is the key to understanding Obama and that is that there is little to the man. Yes, he has a fair amount of tactical political sense in a Chicago-style kind of way and can be quick on his feet at times, but I remain convinced the guy would flunk tests on basic American history, economics, military terminology, Judaism, Christianity and, yes, Islam.
Some think he's a masterly deceitful kind of person on the matter of Islam. I don't. I think he's bromidic on it. Unfortunately, he has a highly exaggerated sense of his own self importance and thinks a whole host of bad ideas are good ones, this awful combination thus mitigates against his ever developing a profound and correct knowledge of anything or doing any of that reading which Hugh rightly finds imperative. When sizing up Obama it's important above all to realize there's not much there there. Definitely he's my choice for the most overrated intellect in the Western world. Damn shame he ever became President of the United States.
dadcito, nice summary of the Moslem slave trade in Africa.
I'd like to add a few remarks. First, "virtually all male slaves were castrated to prevent them from becoming sexually involved with any women." It was even worse than that; castration involves only the removal of the testicles. The man is then sterile, but still capable of sex. In the days when castrati sang the higher voices in European choirs, certain decadent aristocratic ladies prized castrati as lovers, since there was no danger of an embarrassing pregnancy. Also, castration is a relatively simple procedure, routinely practiced on farm animals with very little loss of life. In contrast, the Moslem slavers made eunuchs of their male captives (usually young boys). This involves removal of the entire male sexual apparatus, a much more dangerous and bloody affair. It was performed under the most unsanitary conditions, and the mortality rate was appalling. The majority of the boys died before reaching the coast for shipment to the Mid-East.
Also, the Moslems took slaves from all the regions neighboring the Islamic world. Europe was a prime source of slaves for centuries, especially eastern Europe; so much so that "slave" and "Slav" derive from the same root. The East Indies were another center of Islamic slaving. It was there that Rajah Brooke became famous for his efforts to eliminate slave-raiding in the 1840's.
Killer essay, Robert. This one should be sent out to friends and family.
"It's Reading Period. Get cracking. Do all the work you didn't you during the regular term. Remember, soon enough it will be Exam Time. We'll let you know when."
Too late, Hugh - the Exam began January 20, 2009.
Even if this intellectually lazy empty Alinskyite suit began his studies in ernest today, this Johnny Come Lately will never get up to speed prior to the end of his term (be it 2012 or 2016). I don't need to tell you, of all people, that such a scholarly undertaking requires years and years of tedious research and reading, pouring over countless volumes of books, scriptural texts, essays, works of art, etc., etc. For all the valuable efforts of the Robert Spencers of this world who have done their best to shorten the neophyte's learning curve, there is no immediate gratification to be had here.
So, as Obama fakes his way through the second year of his exam, he is left to scribble vapid salutations and clueless ahistorical inventions in place of the correct answers.
Let's face it - Obama has already failed the Exam, and we shouldn't be surprised when given the opportunity to take it later, he will most assuredly fail again.
Hey! Easy on the Barbary Pirates of Jefferson's administration. They were reacting to American foreign policy in the Middle East and support of Israel.
It is the old story of Capitalists selling the rope to the hangman to hang them with. The lure of profit outshines the lure of survival to most western capitalists. Very short-sighted and suicidal.
"Hugh, you are really well-informed. You must have some impressive credentials. What were those again?"
lol, you're a brainwashed Mohammedan. That's all we need to know.
"How fast can we get rid of this treasonous psychotic out of office?"
You mean, Hussein, our Mohammedan president? 2012. 2012.
Yusef (or Yosef--"he increased"):
Muslims tell us that they don't read the Old and New Testaments because these pre-Islamic revelations were corrupted by human hands.
Christians, however, see the Old Testament as every bit "Scripture" as the New, preserved by the special care and providence of Almighty God (Westminster Confession, 1647, Ch. 1). Some of us sing the Psalms. All of us probably learned the Ten Commandments. We readily take warning and comfort from the Old Testament history and prophets, and take ethical guidance from Moses and Solomon. We see the Hebrew Scriptures as written for us, and their story is the first part of our story.
Hence, a lot of Christian names (and Muslim names, I might add) are also Jewish names, and vice versa. Once, in one of my English for Speakers of Other Languages, I took the opportunity to explain to Somali and Guinean immigrant students how Abraham Lincoln could have a "Muslim" name (an earlier generation of immigrant school kids sometimes wondered if the man was Jewish).
And, this is a major stumbling block for me in taking da'wa seriously. None of the Da'wa people have ever explained to me how it is that the Jews and Christians, who never cooperated, come up with essentially the same Old Testament (albeit with some of the books arranged in a different order--but the contents of those books are the same). Indeed, R. Isaac Leeser, a 19th century immigrant from Germany who wanted to produce an English Bible for American Jews, actually lifted wholesale from the Protestant Christian Authorized Version, because he believed that King James' translators had done a good enough job.
"Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country." -- Nobama
Ahaha!!
Good God! ...what "extraordinary contributions" would those be?! Are acts of terrorism and murder, honor killings, and their constant whining 'n complaining, and lying, now to be thought of as "extraordinary contributions"? Excuse me while I THROW UP over how backasswards this line of thinking is ...
Nobama 2012! ...be gone LIAR.
Who is Obama trying to convince; the American people, the islamic world, himself, or all of the above? And why? I remember Michelle making a strange comment when Obama was campaigning about 'changing history'. The only way to change history is to rewrite it and that is what Obama is doing with islam. If the educational system inculcates children with these lies, they will grow up believing them; they will become true. Muslims are a perfect example of people who have been indoctrinated with revisionist history.
Has anyone heard anything about the NEA's recommendation to abolish Civics and AMerican History classes in American public schools and replace them with a mandatory course on the great Saul Alinsky and his writings, including required reading of his books?
The Muslims fighting for the North was a nice touch, Robert.
Mr. "Tancred,"
I'm not sure where you're headed with this 3rd party-thing and I would prefer to see you in Washington. But you still have my vote for governor.

"And I trust it will also contain a list of those "extraordinary contributions" that Muslims have made to our country. Aside from being the impetus for some extraordinary innovations in airport security, I can't think of any."
Robert, perhaps you are overlooking some. Columbus' quest for a route around the globe to Asia, in which he discovered America, were motivated by evading the seagoing mujaheddin - the pirates on the sea routes of his day, was it not? And interestingly, is it not probable that he was betting on the ancient Greeks' wisdom (Aristotle, Eritasthones) in his quest, for he would have encountered their belief in a spherical world in his education (even if he was taught is was false by his navigation tutor)?
Thus, in a way, Jihad created America! By requiring Western Europeans to innovate a solution to Jihad's depredations of the late 15th century! America is among the results!
May our solutions to the 21st century wave of jihad be as fruitful!!
For a good examination of the way Obama falsely presented Islam in his 2009 Cairo speech, take a look at "Islam and Barack Hussein Obama: A Handbook on Islam" at Amazon.com. You will also find out why the natural death of the allegedly corrupt leader of a small African country received more attention from Obama than did the shooting of the two Army privates in Little Rock Arkansas by a Muslim convert!
Islam - a killing machine!
Although many believe Muslims have the "legal" right to purchase land near ground zero and build a mosque,I dare say they don't have a legal right to be in our country, period.
Islam does not qualify as a mere religion, as its basic teachings are to replace our constitution with theirs, more dangerous than NAZISM and COMMUNISM, yet freely operates under the MASK of MERE RELIGION within the USA and other WESTERN NATIONS!
ISLAM has religious, economic, legal, political,
social and military components.
Muslims are not only commanded to submit every knee to bow to Allah, either willingly or by force,
but submit the whole earth under the CONSTITUTION of ISLAMIC SHARIA LAW, to establish their
ONE WORLD RELIGION and GOVERNMENT.
As a German born let me tell you this: "They are going to make NAZI Germany look like a Garden party!
Where is the leader to define religion versus a killing machine? I know our founding fathers would never consider Islam a mere religion!
Where is leader to expose the killing machine of Islam, having butchered around 270 million people, more than all the genocides and atrocities combined? I know our founding fathers would have the guts to do so, protecting our Constitution, people and nation. Their voices cry out from their graves, "WAKE UP AMERICA!"
Does anyone know the Arabic term for the Muslim injunction against deliberately causing controversy ? I heard this years ago but I can't remember the word. It meant, in effect, that if you know something is going to cause hard feelings or divisiveness, you should refrain from doing it for that reason alone.
If you know and wouldn't mind emailing me, I am at bashiq58@yahoo.com.
If there is such a concept, I wonder why "moderate" Muslims haven't cited it in efforts to keep the mosque away from Ground Zero.
Thanks !!
Contributions to our American society from Muslims - listen to this one:
A number of Bangladeshis I know have proudly informed me that the architect who designed the Empire State Building was a Bangladeshi immigrant. They were taught this in school in Bangladesh, from their youngest ages. And all this time I thought it was William Lamb. But there I go, being ethnocentric and, naturally, ISLAMOPHOBIC!! (Or have we agreed to change that to "islamiphobic?") When disavowed of this unsupportable fiction, some have become angry, some crestfallen, some vacant-eyed.
Truly, the "leadership" of an Islamic country does its people no good to deceive them that it is responsible for achievements when it is not. False pride is worse than no pride, bringing with it the rich capacity for humiliation.
Westward ho, you wrote:

...Cheap and safe interstellar warp drive?
Followed by the flight of fleet after fleet of Santa Marias captained by new Columbuses, sailing for brand-new planetary New Worlds far, far away from the Muslims....
(You can tell that I have a husband with a whole book-case full of sci-fi novels).
Just a nice note someone sent
very relevant
Thought you might like to read this letter to the editor of a British national newspaper. Ever notice how some people just seem to know how to write a letter?.
Here is a woman who should run for Prime Minister!
Written by a housewife, to her daily newspaper. This is one ticked off lady.
'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores in July 2002, and in New York Sept 112001 and have continually threatened to do so since?
Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day in London , and in downtown Manhattan , and in a field in Pennsylvania ?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?
And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency.
I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11 and 7/7.
I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan
I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.
I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques and behind women and children.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of Nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.
I'll care when the British media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a British soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this:
I don't care.
When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take this to the bank:
I don't care.
When I hear that a prisoner - who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special food' that is paid for by my taxes - is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts:
I don't care.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, believe me!! you guessed it ......
I don't care!!
If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behaviour!
If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great country! And may I add:
'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. Our soldiers don't have that problem.'
I have another quote that I would like to add, AND.......I hope you forward all this.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The Soldier
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET ABOUT ALL OF THEM.
AMEN!
