Where is the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque getting its money?

The New York Post, in an unsigned editorial, points out the dishonesty and shady connections of the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. "Money behind the mosque," from the New York Post, August 4:

[...] CAIR had denounced opponents of the projects as "bigots and extremists."

That's pretty rich, coming from an organization that in 2007 was named an unindicted co-conspirator in connection with a plot to support the terrorists of Hamas -- and that has seen several of its former officials and staffers convicted on terror-related charges. [...]

Moreover, as Dan Senor of the Council on Foreign Relations wrote in The Wall Street Journal, whatever the project's stated goals, "in the minds of many who are swayed by the most radical interpretations of Islam . . . it will be celebrated as a Muslim monument erected on the site of a great Muslim 'military' victory."

And that's why the question of who precisely will pay to build the $100 million project is so compelling.

At first, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf insisted the funds would be raised entirely from the Muslim-American community.

But then he told an Arabic-language newspaper in Britain that funding would also come from Arab countries.

And it should be noted that Rauf's father was the long-time director of the Islamic Center of New York, which built the mosque on Third Avenue and 96th Street -- a project funded primarily by the governments of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other Muslim nations.

Now, the Saudis openly fund mosques abroad, spreading the radical Wahhabi strain of Islam, as a means of pacifying their own home-grown radicals.

So it would be particularly troubling if Rauf's funding comes from abroad -- particularly from Riyadh.

Especially given his own disturbing ties to figures like Hossein Mahallati, Iran's former UN ambassador and an unabashed supporter of Hamas.

Not to mention Rauf's own pointed refusal to label Hamas a terrorist organization -- and his statement, in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, that "United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened."

Which is why he and those behind the mosque project owe it to all New Yorkers to make their plans and -- especially -- their finances fully transparent, now that they've effectively been given a green light to build.

If, as he says, he means to be a force for reconciliation, Rauf must begin by demonstrating to New Yorkers that he has no ties to those who support global terrorism -- either ideologically or financially.

Would New York allow porn vendors to do business at Ground Zero? It's fair to compare mosques to porn vendors-- particularly mysogynistic sharia law advocates of Cordoba House.

As Fr. Botros reminds folks in Qaid al-Qadir (v.1, p.381), Muhammad told Muslims to retort to uppity infidels by saying things like, “Go bite on your mother’s clitoris!” or, according to Zad al-Mi’ad (v.3, p305), “Go bite on your dad’s penis!”

Oh prophet of Allah!…prophet of Allah….Would that you would’ve heeded your Lord Jesus’ counsel: "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks." Luke 6:45

In the entire history of its existence, the Soviet Union spent on propaganda -- for World Communism, for the Soviet Union and its objectives -- about eight to nine billion dollars.

In just the last few decades, Saudi Arabia alone is estimated to have spent more than ten times that, on funding mosques, madrasas, imams, campaigns of Da'wa, and the employment of Western hirelings to promote Islam.

We have all heard, have we not, about the remarkable sums suddenly raised by a handful of Muslim families who seem, nonetheless, to be able to put up mosques that cost ten or fiveen or twenty million dollars. These sums are not raised by those attending the mosque, nor by other Muslims of similar economic status. The money comes from abroad, and a great deal of it from Saudi Arabia.

Do those who oppose those who oppose the mosque near Ground Zero (or other mosques, for that matter) think that they should ask themselves how Islam is taught in Saudi Arabia, and how imams paid by Saudi Arabia, in buildings built and maintained with Saudi money, are likely to present the teachings of Islam? Will it be the true, full-bore Islam, that the Saudis endorse and demand, or will it be -- and how could that be? -- something else?

Questions, questions.

.................

Actually, I think this is one instance where the hypothetical porn vendors look pretty good in comparison—it wasn't Vivid Video or Hustler Magazine that perpetrated the fall of the Twin Towers and the deaths of almost 3000 people—it was Islam.

Newt Gingrich was on Bill O'Reilly yesterday, and came out firmly against the Ground Zero Mosque—and he explicitly linked it to the spread of Shari'ah, which was bold and perceptive.

You know this mosque is getting built so just get over it.

The icing on the cake is that a Jewish mayor is pushing for the construction of this mosque.

I like Bill Kristol's prediction that construction workers will not work on the mosque, banks will not finance it, the public will make life miserable for the mosque builders.

I hope he's right, and that, when people pass the construction site, they do not just put their heads down and quicken their pace.

One of the interesting side effects of the mosque controversy is that it is forcing many people to educate themselves about the dangers of Islam and it's threat to our society. Even if the mosque is built, the struggle against Islamization has an expanded base of enlighten American's ready to do battle in the next conflict. And there will be a next conflict.

No doubt the money is coming from the oil rich middle eastern countries, in particular, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE etc., since the Muslim community in New York is not large enough to raise more than 100 million dollars for the project. This double talking imam keeps on saying different things to different audiences. Last time it was reported Malaysia, the Saudi Arabia of East, was going to fund the project. I say ban the importation of money to build this atrocity near GZ!!! the construction unions should refuse to participate in the construction and no foreign workers should be allowed to come here to build the mosque!!!

When there is a mega mosque already existing on 96thSt and 3rd Ave, what is the need to build this mosqu near Ground Zero??? If Muslims want to build this mosque to improve relations with other communities then they should start by acknowledging the overwhelming opposition to the mosque and dump the whole project. That would certainly go a long way to improve relations with Muslims, otherwise Muslims are simply blowing in the wind with no desire to live here peacefully with us!!!

Yes. Where is the money coming from? I have seen large mosque facilities with nary a car in the mall-sized parking lot all day long. What is one to conclude? Are the congregants all busy working to pay off the mortgage? Or is it possible that there was a little help in the building of what comes to be more of another link in a chain of forts than a house of worship?

We might do well to carefully track where all Saudi money goes. The money weapon isn't confined to real estate purchases and building funds, but appears to be at work in influence peddling as well. Honest politicians should welcome hyper-vigilance where Saudi money in the West in concerned.

"You know this mosque is getting built so just get over it."

That's an interesting point, now that you mention it. Exactly what labor unions will agree to build this? I say none.

"If, as he says, he means to be a force for reconciliation, Rauf must begin by demonstrating to New Yorkers that he has no ties to those who support global terrorism -- either ideologically or financially."

The mere and sheer fact that Rauf is a Muslim (indeed, a learned Muslim imam) demonstrates that he has ties, ideologically, to those who support global terrorism.

More and more I am seeing that this project to oppose the Ground Zero Mosque mirrors almost exactly the same incoherence that is at the heart of the still inchoate anti-Islam movement. Giuliani, for example, in his profession of opposition, just had to add a nod to the mythical population of "decent Muslims" out there who would support this opposition -- which might be begging the question: were this mosque funded, administered and staffed by "decent Muslims", then Giuliani would have no problems with it, right? Or we have Spencer, who recently avowed that he does not oppose mosques in general in the West, with the mild caveat that he would support increased surveillance on "Wahhabist" mosques. So if mosques in general are unobjectionable -- and even if under surveillance would be given the green light to be built and to remain standing (as long, of course, as that surveillance does not yield anything worse and more tangible than the mere and sheer fact that they are Islamic) -- then this Ground Zero Mosque can only be opposed on some tangibly casuistic pretext: i.e., that Rauf has terrorist "ties", that he is on record saying unpleasant things about America and 911 -- things which half the university professors in the West have said (let alone have taught in their classrooms!) in one way or another; that the building should have landmark status; etc.

Thus, Ground Zero is back to Square One: Islam is not the problem, and Islamic mosques qua Islamic mosques are not the problem: It's only the "extremists" -- whom we can define as such only with tangible smoking gun proof -- who are the problem. If that is so, then there would be no reason to oppose this mosque if no tangible "ties" could be found linking the mosque's funders/staffers with "extremism". And yet the opponents of the mosque keep implying that Islam itself -- and that the mere and sheer Islamic identity of the mosque -- is the problem, and is the reason, for their opposition; even while they vacillate from this to imply that they are only opposed if this mosque's funders/staffers are "extremists".

Is that any way to honor the victims of 911, taking one step forward, two steps back in our learning curve?

"If, as he says, he means to be a force for reconciliation, Rauf must begin by demonstrating to New Yorkers that he has no ties to those who support global terrorism -- either ideologically or financially."

That line caught my eye, as well.

After Feisal Abdul Rauf's post 9/11 interview with Ed Bradley on "60 Minutes", there should be no question whether or not he is ideologically tied to "global terrorism". What sort of individual indulges in apologetics for jihadist mass murder? What sort of individual provides political cover for Osama bin Laden? What sort of man deals in the stock and trade of terrorists - the evasion of personal responsibility?

"In fact, in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA."

What sort of man makes such brazenly dishonest claims? Everyone knows Osama bin Laden was made in Feisal Abdul Rauf's native Middle East - in the heart of the Dar al Islam - where he was born, raised, and turned into a psychopathic Islamist fanatic.

What ugly truth is Feisal Abdul Rauf trying to hide, and WHY is he trying to hide it?

Wake up, people...

A friend yesterday told me that he hopes the mosque goes up. His reasoning is that it will increase Muslims' arrogance and awaken an understanding in "al kuffar" of the true threat Islamic supremacism poses.

Yes, that's a point...

One knows that if it is built all that talk about "reconciliation" activity will go out the window and the premises will be used to lecture the Kaffir on how they were responsible for 9/11 and how Islam alone is the wonderful solution to all problems. In other words they will be like a thorn in the side of the Non-Muslim population, a constant reminder of how Islam's promises are not to be trusted.

More often than not, Hesp, I'm in-step with your hard-line, "nothing-but-the-truth" thinking. This, though, is an exception.

First, I thought Giuliani's statement was clever politics from a master at the game.
By saying that "decent muslims" would object, he paints them ALL into a corner. The principals pushing this are thus automatically "indecent" by his definition. And, if the "rank-and-file" muslims support it, they become less-than "decent" as well. This consigns the whole lot of them to "indecency" or silence. Not much wiggle-room there. That's how a pro operates!

Secondly, I think any challenge to Rauf's bona fides is worthwhile. Even a question about his possible ties to terror, by insinuation, ties him to terror in our sound-bite world. And given Rauf's proclivity to doublespeak and evasion, he's fair-game for any points that can be scored on him. This is a smooth-talking con-man who's taqiyyah'd lots of folks out-of their shoes. Anything that casts doubt on him and chips away at his false image is valuable. Put another way: I don't care if he has any REAL links to terror or if he's Santa Clause's little brother. I just don't want a mosque at Ground Zero!

And that's where I think the problem is, Hesp; You know that old saying about "not seeing the forest for the trees?" I think that's reversed here--you can't see the trees for the forest. You'd like to win the whole war all at once--well, so would I! But we're trying to win ONE BATTLE here--and look how difficult even THAT is! This is just ONE in a series of battles; we have to fight on the battlefield as it exists TODAY. And by doing this, we'll start tilting that ground OUR way for the next battle and the one after that.

These foul mohammadans have mounted a direct, public attack on us. Everyone is responding as best he / she can, given his position in life and society and considering the limits of his credibility in the public marketplace. In that marketplace, the line between "reasoned opposition" and "islamophobic fanaticism" is a thin one. Sorry, but that's just the way it is right now. But these arrogant, overreaching muslims have forced THEMSELVES out into the open with their Ground Zero Mania. Let's get all the mileage we can with it; mileage, that is, in the direction of the public awareness and victory over islam that we all seek!

Sorry, I don't usually do long posts. But like lots of folks, I have strong feelings about this...

Regards, Hesp,

G

".....awaken an understanding in "al kuffar" of the true threat Islamic supremacism poses."

That would have been my hope as well, until I received an e-mail with pictures of muslims praying in the street at the corner of East 41st and Madison Ave. The NYPD didn't appear to be interested in clearing the public street & no citizens were seen protesting.

I think there are too many dhimmis & PC lemmings and people who are afraid to be called a disparaging name who have absolutely no intention of educating themselves about islam.

It will take another attack of monumental proportions on America to get this group off of their collective a$$es & convictions.

It there any space for lease or sale next to the building? Think of the businesses and religious institutions that could locate there...

do they allow sidewalk sales in NY? Is that open for permit application or does the building owner have a preferential right? Next door?

Do they sell permits for newsstands on public sidewalks?

Imagine a chalk art contest on the sidewalk.

Its time to welcome the new neighbors to the neighborhood with the same spirit of reconciliation that they are bringing.

Free bacon and egg breakfasts for the homeless?

Bus bench advertisements?

Billboards on neighboring buildings?

So many possibilities... no need to wait, extend the welcome now.

I like the way you think, mate.

Perhaps the local dog-walking group could make sure they all foregather out front before setting off on their daily constitutional...

A chain of forts.

Precisely.

Have you seen the nice interactive map of the USA, recently put out by the 'Investigative Project on Terrorism' people?

Hugh Fitzgerald flagged it on New English Review:

http://www.newenglishreview.org/blog_direct_link.cfm/blog_id/28937

and here is the original link.

http://www.investigativeproject.org/maps/terrorism-map.php

All jihadwatchers not already familiar with the work of the 'Investigative Project' should click and view - and, perhaps, bookmark.

Perhaps, if similar maps of Canada, Australia, India, the UK, France, Germany, etc., do not yet exist, there may be a computer-savvy non-Muslim reader or readers out there, who may be inspired to create them.

If the Union employees do go ahead with the building of the mosque I hope they lose some of the bolts and rivets and miss a few welds.
They could do a lot of drinking the night before coming to work and take a few leaks off the building as well.
Crushed aluminum beer cans in the bolt holes, sandwich and candy bar wrappers in the welds, left-over pork bones; I can think of a few.

Everything there is to know about Feisal Abdul Rauf, the wolf in sheep’s clothing behind the planned lower Manhattan mega-mosque.
The Ground Zero Mosque Developer: Muslim Brotherhood Roots, Radical Dreams
http://www.analyst-network.com/article.php?art_id=3453

Barack Hussein Obama wrote the book; "The Dreams of My Father".

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is building the Codoba mosque at Ground Zero, the site of the open jihad against America; "The Dreams of My Father" (Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rauf-Egyptian contemporary of Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna).
Same old, same old story.

"It amazes me that people don't think there is a clear adversary out there, and that our adversary does not have a strategic approach." Bruce Hoffman, terrorism expert at Georgetown University.

The Cordoba Initiative has the support of many Jewish and Christian orgs.
WTF?
"Apologists for Islam never tire of referring to the “Golden Age” of tolerance that supposedly characterized seven centuries of Muslim dominated Spain." Norman Berdichevsky New English Review (Nov. 2006)
"The struggle for Islam requires a continual appraisal of a chess-board like map of what part of the world has been subdued and placed under Muslim rule FOREVER (no retreats or “do-overs” are allowed). The subdued territory is Dar-al-Islam while the remaining territories are ideologically still in the camp of the unbelievers. The other camp is labeled the “Camp of War” (Dar-Il-Harb) and must ultimately be conquered. In this regard, territories such as Israel, Spain, Chechnya, Kosovo or Albania, that were once submitted to Allah, cannot be allowed to return to the Camp of War."

History repeats itself for those with short-wick memories. K.S.B
The Jews and Visigoth Christians of early Spain welcomed the Muslim invaders, in 711 AD, initially.
The Jews and Christian apologists are welcoming the Muslim invasion of America, in 2011 AD...

That's exactly 1300 years after the invasion of Spain and exactly 10 years after September 11th, 2001.
Does anyone smell an Islamic jihad conspiracy here?
Was this all planned prior to 9/11? Are the Muslim Brotherhood really that far advanced in their planning?
I highly doubt it, but it sure looks suspicious.

I could really use a good joke right now. Anyone?

George,

I thought Giuliani's statement was clever politics from a master at the game.

No, I think he sincerely believes that there exist "decent Muslims" -- probably in his mind in great numbers.

By saying that "decent muslims" would object, he paints them ALL into a corner.

That's a double-edged sword. These "decent Muslims" or their representatives can easily turn the tables on his bluff, and ask him:

"Mr. Giuliani, do you think the Islam we follow is bad? Do you think the Islam of our mosques in which we pray is bad? If not, they what is the problem with having a normal mosque at this site? Please tell us how the Islam of us decent Muslims could possibly insult the memory of the victims of 911. We can understand that a mosque dedicated to the extremists would be an insult, but we cannot understand how a mosque dedicated to decent Islam could possibly be an insult, and frankly, we feel insulted that people are implying this."

What could Giuliani say then? I doubt he would have the wherewithal to rebut this, since I think he sincerely believes in "decent Muslims" and a "decent Islam". If he doesn't sincerely believe in those things, he would then be hard pressed to rebut this because the thin veneer of his "clever" rhetoric would have been so easily pierced.

Come on now, George, are we pinning the future of the West on superficial "cleverness" that anyone can see through? Is this the Emperor's Clothes that everyone is whispering "let's not notice"...? Where has the brain of the West gone, for crying out loud!?

Am I the only one around here to stand up for the simple truth of logic? Either Islam is dangerous and bad, and that's why we don't want a mosque near Ground Zero -- in which case we don't want a mosque anywhere in the West -- or, we continue this game begun by the Politically Correct Multi-Culturalists, of dividing Islam into a "bad Islam" and a "good Islam". The only difference between our anti-Islam movement reps and the PC MCs, from what I can see, in this regard, is where they draw this imaginary dividing line.

Speaking of imaginary dividing lines, it is, in a not so figurative sense, the imaginary Maginot Line of our time, and it will cost untold numbers of lives as we continue imagining its utility into the decades ahead of us as this new and different World War unfolds. It will do this (I do not need to say, but maybe I do) because it grievously underestimates and miscalculates and misconceives the uniquely deadly and fanatical nature of our enemy: part of that uniqueness being the enabling participation of seemingly harmless Muslims in the Jihad.

Sashland said

Is there any space for lease or sale next to the building? Think of the businesses and religious institutions that could locate there...

Maybe you should approach the owners of PIGGLY WIGLEY supermarkets of South Carolina. - If only!

There is no "bad" Islam or "good" Islam - Islam is Islam, and it's succeeding in continuing to confuse us by its smoke and mirrors duality.

In my view, the only way to find out is to ask the question "If everything went to the wire, and it was a case of violent Jihad against non-Muslims - who among your "good Islam" friends and neighbours would protect you, a kuffar, and who would go with their fanatical counterparts? Bear in mind that even if a Muslim is to outward appearances "Westernised" and integrated, what is steadily indoctrinated into them as children - total and absolute submission to the Koran and Hadiths - has a very good chance of winning.

We have what happened in Germany in the 1930s to use as an example. German intellectuals, German good neighbours and friends - all reverted to type and turned on those who were "different". These diversity celebrating/liberal non-Muslims who were romanced into believing that there are two types of Muslim will join the rest of us as dhimmis, if they're lucky - but will they fully accept the part they played in the dumbing down and eventual destruction of Western democracy and tolerance? I doubt it.

Can anyone tell me why is Bloomberg for the mosque?

One thing I would say about Mosques, is that we should be pressing for more transparency about what is being taught in the Saturday and evening schools...If Muslims have nothing to hide about their religion, presumably they will be happy to explain exactly what is taught, what textbooks are used and so on. It would be particularly interesting to know what is taught about non-believers and the wars of Islam.

But strangely, when you look at mosque websites they give only the most general outline of what is taught.

I really think that is where the focus should be. That is where the light should be shone.

Something occurred to me while reading this (besides the usual horror, trepidation, shame in our collective societal cowardice, and so on):

Does the mayor have some involvement with Saudi or middle eastern money? Would this explain his vociferous defence? Prince Niou is just asking.....

[As is normal after reading about Muslim-related issues, I am now going to calm down by listening to some music from my civilizational tradition (a Mozart piano concerto). How strange to think that Mozart would be impossible in an Islam-centered culture; how proud I am of the world my ancestors built!]

Tnanks for the response, Hesp. Believe me when I tell you that I understand what you're saying. But the difference between your (and my) ideal scenario and where we find ourselves now demands realism. Under what conditions are we fighting? Given those conditions, what can we accomplish in the HERE and NOW?

You and I see the truth about islam. How many folks out there see what we see and feel as we do? Clearly not many, or we'd have little to discuss here. We're swimming upstream against our own officialdom, our media, and public opinion. And we are NOT in the mainstream of public opinion. And THAT'S what has to change.

When an obvious muslim supremacist like Nihad Awad appears on a news-show, does he tell the truth? Does he tell us what he really thinks, what his intentions really are? Does he chain himself to islamic absolutism? Of course not! Is it effective to oppose him with anti-islamic absolutism? Of course not. He lies and tells half-truths. It's a game, albeit a high-stakes one, and we can't play it less-well than our enemies. The inertia behind PC
and "tolerant" attitudes is too great to be
toppled in a day. People must be led, step-by-step to their salvation. Throw it in their faces and they will turn away, back to their more comfortable and long-held PC consciousness.

So when Rudy G comes out & says what he said, you say, "He's pulling his punches, he's PC, not telling the truth." And I say, "Great, Rudy came out against the mosque! That's a plus, points for us!" And as far as his response to any muslim rejoinder, I can think of about half-a-dozen right now & I know his would be better.

I won't tell you that I'm not conflicted about this. I much prefer your approach; let's get the gloves off & get after this scourge on humanity. But I think it won't be that quick and easy. Perhaps they'll help us with a massive attack that will remove all doubt from the masses. I consider that quite likely, BTW, though 9/11 was more than enough for me...

Take Care, Hesp,

G

This mosque/cultural center/pissing on the victims seems to be accomplishing just what it was meant to. It is definitely encouraging a deeper understanding of Islam. I understand, even better now than ever before, that Islam itself is an evil ideology. Call it a religion if you want. It is a religion of peace in about the same way Jeffrey Dahmer was a cook.

Stephen Schwartz is doing some of the best writing on Feisal Abdul Rauf, and the Cordoba mosque.

He develops the Hossein Mahallati link further at the Weekly Standard.

"The idea of building an Islamic peace memorial in lower Manhattan was circulating as early as 2003. Its early proponents were two Iranian brothers, M. Jafar “Amir” Mahallati, who served as ambassador of the Iranian Islamic Republic to the United Nations from 1987 to 1989, and M. Hossein Mahallati. Amir Mahallati had served with Rauf in the leadership of an obscure nonprofit, the Interfaith Center of New York, for which Rauf was a vice chair and Mahallati a board member. The two had also participated in a 2006 radio program, “From Turmoil to Tourism: Following the Path of Abraham.”

Hossein Mahallati had experience of his own in the intersecting New York worlds of charitable giving and property management. He was director from 1983 to 1992 of the Alavi Foundation, set up in 1973 by the government of the shah of Iran as the Pahlavi Foundation, but taken over and renamed after the Khomeini revolution. The Alavi Foundation is currently the subject of a federal civil action seeking forfeiture of assets, including an office building at 650 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and four Shia mosques and schools in New York, California, Maryland, and Texas.

While U.S. sanctions on the Alavi Foundation, announced in 2009, received little notice, the government’s charges are disturbing. They include control of Alavi by the Tehran dictatorship through its diplomats at the United Nations, and transfer of income from the office building at 650 Fifth Avenue to Bank Melli, the Iranian national financial institution. Bank Melli had been designated a “Weapons of Mass Destruction proliferator” by the U.S. Treasury Department. Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey noted, “The international community has recognized the proliferation risks posed by Iran’s Bank Melli.” In late 2009, the Alavi Foundation’s last head, Farshid Jahedi, pled guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice for destroying documents about the Alavi-Melli relationship that had been subpoenaed in the investigation, which continues. Jahedi was sentenced on April 29 to three months’ imprisonment, six months’ supervised release, and a $3,000 fine.
"Hossein Mahallati was the subject of an unsuccessful federal inquiry in 1992 regarding an alleged conspiracy to export biological warfare materials to Iran. His predecessor as Alavi director, Manoucher Shafie, who managed the foundation’s transition from serving the shah’s government to that of Ayatollah Khomeini, was charged with conspiring to export prohibited U.S. technology to Iran. Neither was prosecuted.

Hossein Mahallati remains an enthusiastic supporter of Rauf’s Ground Zero enterprise, especially since an Egyptian property developer, Sharif El-Gamal, who appears to be the real leader of the effort, using Rauf as his public face, put up $4.85 million in cash to purchase the location. El-Gamal is chief executive officer of Soho Properties, Inc., a commercial real estate investment firm he founded in 2003. His partner is Nour Mousa, another guiding figure in the Ground Zero mosque effort and the nephew of Amr Moussa, head of the Arab League. Amr Moussa was the first major Arab leader to go to Gaza and affirm support for Hamas, in mid-June, after the recent blockade-running assault. "
