Aafia Siddiqui sentenced to 86 years for attempted murder of U.S. soldiers and FBI agents

First, she was "mentally ill," and now she says she's not. Then again, the insanity defense didn't work out, anyway, and so turned out not to be useful. An update this story.

"Pakistani Woman Sentenced to 86 Years for Trying to Kill Americans," by Chad Bray for the Wall Street Journal, September 23 (thanks to Sr. Soph):

NEW YORK--A Pakistani woman trained as a scientist in the U.S. was sentenced to 86 years in prison Thursday after she was convicted of trying to kill U.S. Army soldiers and FBI agents in Afghanistan two years ago.
Aafia Siddiqui, 38 years old, was convicted in February of grabbing a soldier's M-4 assault rifle and trying to shoot an assembled group of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and soldiers at an Afghan police compound in July 2008.
The U.S. team had traveled to the compound in Ghazni, Afghanistan, to interview her after she taken into custody by Afghan authorities, prosecutors said. Ms. Siddiqui was found at the time with materials that included handwritten notes referring to a "mass casualty attack" in the U.S. and listed several landmark locations in New York City, prosecutors said.
Prior to her sentencing, Ms. Siddiqui again proclaimed her innocence and disputed claims by her lawyers that she has a mental illness.
"I do not want a 9/11," she said. "I do not want any bloodshed."
A jury found Ms. Siddiqui guilty in February of seven charges, including two counts of attempted murder. The jury found there wasn't premeditation in the attempted murder charges.
After she was sentenced Thursday, Ms. Siddiqui turned to the audience and urged the public to forgive the persons involved in her case and not to take any actions of revenge.

How magnanimous.

Prosecutors had alleged that Ms. Siddiqui, unbeknownst to the Americans who traveled to Ghazni, was behind a curtain in the second-floor room where they gathered. She burst from behind the curtain, grabbed an American soldier's rifle and started firing, prosecutors said.
She was shot in the abdomen by a soldier who returned fire with his sidearm, prosecutors said.
Ms. Siddiqui, who received graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Brandeis University in biology and neuroscience while living in the U.S. between 1991 and June 2002, has denied grabbing the weapon or having any familiarity with firearms.
At trial, she testified that she was simply trying to escape the room and was shot by someone who saw her. She claimed she was concerned at the time about being transferred to a "secret" prison.
"He saw me and he got scared. He said, 'she's free' or 'she's loose,' " she said at the time.
On Thursday, Ms. Siddiqui, who has previously expressed displeasure with her lawyers and the U.S. legal process, said that she didn't want the lawyers on her case to file an appeal and that she didn't want them to take any further action in her case.
Ms. Siddiqui's mental state has loomed large over her trial, with her lawyers claiming she suffers from schizophrenia.
U.S. District Judge Richard Berman, who is presiding, found her comptent to stand trial. He noted Thursday that experts for the defense and the prosecution gave conflicting opinions about Ms. Siddiqui's mental state and that she had been uncooperative with prison psychologists.
During the hearing, Ms. Siddiqui raised her hands and shook her head several times when her lawyer, Dawn Cardi, argued she had a mental illness.
"I do not have any mental illness," Ms. Siddiqui said.
The judge ordered that she receive periodic mental evaluations while serving her sentence.

Ironically she is mentally ill because she thinks she is not. After all, islam is a mental illness. Wow, we could really help with unemployment by putting the head doctors back to work. If only the muslims would realize their delusional, psychotic mental condition...

I wonder why no other media outlets carried this story.

http://whyyouexist.blogspot.com

Although it's obvious that Islamic based hatred drove Ms. Siddiqui to her actions when one considers the high rates of cosanguinity (e.g. cousin marriage) in Afghanistan, (Pakistan & elsewhere in the Islamic world) and the resulting physical and mental defects it's not a totally unbelievable defense. That's before one deals with the effects of brutalization upon women in Islamic societies.

When tries to base a society upon Islam, high rates of illiteracy, tribalism, cosanguinity, and a number of other unsavory practices what you get is one massive Gordian knot of hate and dysfunction. It's sad to say Americans aren't psychologically ready to accept and deal with those realities. I would argue that the only solution seems to be to wall off the Muslims world and let them revel in their hatred. Unfortunately between Islamic immigration and the effort to obtain WMD's by Muslim nations that 'walling them off' doesn't seem to be solution.

If Islam *is* a mental illness, what is the cure?

It's high time the various versions of the Qur'an which are on rolls of film and kept in Berlin were released for the world to see. Then the ridiculous belief that the Qur'an is the literal word of God would be rendered ridiculous.

That would put the Islamic world on the road to recovery from this madness.

Read all about the various versions.

If I were the judge I would have applied Shariah justice.

That would be a fitting solution for one who follows the teachings of Mohammud.

she testified that she was simply trying to escape the room and was shot by someone who saw her. She claimed she was concerned at the time about being transferred to a "secret" prison. "He saw me and he got scared".

She obviously had grabbed the gun, why else would he be scared? A strange mix of half-truths and what actually happened.

Though I still haven't seen any misspelled English signs in praise of her "herrowism" in Porkistan, she sure is to that country, just like bin Laden, a herrowic icon, isn't she?

You guys know what else? Just imagine if she had been tried in the UK for a similar crime... I think she would have been sentenced to life in a £ 2 million mansion with the right to venture outside whenever she pleased, plus a weekly allowance of perhaps £ 500, since anything else would probably have been ruled a violation of her human rights by the British "justice" system.

Well you have convinced me to lose this lame religion and carry on with normal life....what was I thinking?

Plus loosing this crappy Islam thing lets me explore my real passion of being gay, I like gay things, gay men, gay parties, gay clubs, what can I say, I'm Gay, really really really gay. I have alot of practice too, assuming the position in prayer. And I've even found several gay Muslim dating sites just in case I want to go back.

http://www.requestadate.com/gay_dating_category/muslim.html
http://www.queerlisting.com/detail/306/arabic-turkish-muslim-gay-dating.html

And heres an article on how its so much fun to be Gay in Islam.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13712248/

If any one wants to be gay with me come on, let's be Gay together.
I wish Muhammad was Gay. We could have so much fun together. He would be such a better person if he was gay, instead of beheading 800 Jews he could give head to 800 Jews. mmmm. Maybe Allah is Gay, now that would be paradise.

Well, ta..ta.

I would guess that this particular person isn't schizophrenic but, rather, lying.

However, if her mama was very devout and wore full Islamic coverup, schizophrenia would be a real possibility.

"Researchers link low vitamin D to schizophrenia"

'Researchers say babies born with low vitamin D levels may have an increased risk of developing schizophrenia later in life.

'The three-year study tested blood samples from babies in Denmark and found having low vitamin D levels doubles the risk of developing the disorder.

'The findings could encourage pregnant women to get more sunshine or take a vitamin D supplement. {And NOT wear a burka or niqab! - dda}

'Professor John McGrath, from the Queensland Brain Institute, says the study is further evidence of vitamin D's link to brain development.

"Many years ago we thought it was totally implausible to prevent schizophrenia, it seemed to be such a mysterious, poorly understood group of illnesses," he said.
"I think this new result suggests that maybe it will be possible to prevent schizophrenia."

END.

Now, let's think about it. Yemen. Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states. Afghanistan. The more rigidly-Muslim Muslims, everywhere; generations of women totally covered-up whenever they go outside.

The likelihood that many or most of those women are Vitamin D deficient is high; and if they're Vitamin D deficient during pregnancy, then their babies' brain development may be seriously compromised.

It should be noted that at the end of a news report on women being forced to wear hijab in Gaza University

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3953628,00.html

the following information was included:

'Lack of Vitamin D because of veils

'A Jordanian study published this week asserted that 87% of women between the ages of 18 and 70 in Jordan suffer from a lack of Vitamin D as a result of insufficient sun exposure and not enough milk consumption.

'The researchers linked this phenomenon to wearing the hijab.

'According to the findings, **92% of women who wear a hijab suffer from a lack of Vitamin D** (my emphasis - dda)

'This figure increases to 96%, according to the survey, when it comes to women who cover their faces as well with a niqab."

Put that information together with the results of the Danish study and it appears that those who wear the Muslim female slave rag, whatever form of it they wear, stand a very good chance of scrambling their babies' brains.

This from The Guardian today.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/sep/23/pakistan-scientist-86-years-shooting

"Protesters took to the streets across Pakistan after the sentence, lighting fires and chanting anti-American slogans. The Jamaat-e-Islami religious party announced a national strike after weekly prayers. Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif said he was "saddened"‚ by the sentence; his brother Shahbaz, the chief minister of Punjab province, called the sentence a "crime against humanity"."

It looks like Islam wants to decide the sentences handed down in infidel courts. No surprise there then.

Hello Yusef YK,

You seem to be a very sexy stud and I would love to hook up and have some low down dirty sex with you.

Drop me a line at saleemsmith@gmail.com and we will get it on. Sarc./on

Kidding as usually always Yusef my oh so gay friend.

Its okay to make a bunch of mistakes.

@Bogsidebunny

Sharia justice might be deserved, but not wise. It would be playing right into the hands of those who think our laws need to be replaced by theirs. I just hope the sentence sticks, with no parole, no good behaviour (fat chance of that), and no time served.

Pakistan calls on U.S. to free terrorist convict
Judge sentenced Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years in prison for trying to kill interrogators in Afghanistan
KARACHI, Pakistan — Pakistan's prime minister called scientist Aafia Siddiqui "the daughter of the nation" on Friday and vowed to campaign for her release after a U.S. judge sentenced her to 86 years in prison for trying to kill U.S. interrogators in Afghanistan.

Yousuf Raza Gilani's comments appeared to be an attempt to manage public anger over the lengthy sentence handed down to 38-year-old Siddiqui on Thursday. Her defense lawyers had asked for a sentence closer to 12 years behind bars.
Story: Pakistani in NYC gets 86 years in prison

The plight of the American-trained Pakistani scientist and mother has struck a chord among Islamist groups and ordinary Pakistanis, many of whom are convinced of her innocence.

Siddiqui's punishment prompted demonstrations in at least two cities, with much of the anger directed at the already unpopular Pakistani government for failing to somehow intervene in her case.

Pakistan's prime minister called Aafia Siddiqui "the daughter of the nation" on Friday and vowed to campaign for her release after a U.S. judge sentenced her to 86 years in prison.

But at her Thursday sentencing, Siddiqui had urged her supporters to keep calm.

"Don't get angry," she said, adding that they should "forgive" the judge who sentenced her.

"I don't want any violence in my name, please," said Siddiqui, who wore a beige tunic and white headscarf covering her mouth and forehead to the three-and-a-half hour hearing.

But Pakistani authorities Friday braced for more protests.

'Daughter of the nation'
Gilani said he had recently lobbied U.S. officials for Siddiqui's release to "improve the U.S. image in Pakistan."

"We all are united, and we want the daughter of the nation to come back to Pakistan," he told parliament, which unanimously adopted a resolution demanding Aafia's "repatriation."

"I fought for her, my lawyer fought for her and now I will take up this matter on a political level," he said.

Afghan police captured Siddiqui, who holds a doctorate from Brandeis University in Massachusetts, in Afghanistan in 2008.

Prosecutors said at trial that once in the interrogation room on the day after her arrest, she grabbed an M4 rifle and started shooting while yelling "death to America." She did not hit any American agents or soldiers, but Siddiqui was shot and wounded in response, according to U.S. prosecutors' version of events.

The jury convicted Siddiqui in February of this year.
Story: Scientist convicted of trying to kill Americans

Siddiqui's lawyers argued in court papers that her outburst inside a cramped Afghan outpost was a spontaneous "freak out," born of mental illness not militancy. The Pakistani government paid for three members of the defense team.
_________________

When people demonstrate all over Pakistan in favor of Siddiqui, when the Pakistani government pays for her defense, when members of the Pakistani Parliament unanimously vote to demand her "repatriation" as someone of whom they are all so solicitous and, many of them, quite proud, for she did nothing wrong in their eyes, she stood up against the Infidel Americans, and plotted only to kill them (and what's wrong, in Pakistani Muslim eyes, with that? what could be wrong?), and when the president of Pakistan, Gilani, publicly calls this woman who, having taken advantage of everything the kindly Infidels could naively offer her, from an undergraduate education and scholarship at MIT to another, for graduate work, at Brandeis, and in turn she plotted with others the mass-deaths of those Infidels who had shown her nothing but kindness (the teachings of Islam, you see, did not disappear, and when she was in a low personal moment -- perhaps realizing she hadn't the ability to do real scientific work at the level that was required in the West -- she turned to Islam, and more Islam), a "daughter of the nation" (!) and demands that the Americans -- who have been pouring tens of billions of dollars over the last decade into Pakistan, our "friend and ally" -- in order to improve the "image" of the United States in Pakistan -- well, when that happens, you wish to howl in fury at Pakistan, at its primitive masses, at its corrupt landowners and generals (with their jeunesse doree still living it up in the most expensive American and English universities, preparing for their lives as the worthy inheritors of their rapacious, greedy, and cruel but so smooth, and so plausible, parents and grandparents, becoming spokesmen for the "good, the true, the real face of Pakistan" which is nothing more than a scrubbed and cleverer version of what the shrieking masses, denouncing yet again some supposed Infidel outrage (remember how the American
Embassy and consulates were attacked back in November 1979, because one group of Muslims had seized the Great Mosque in Mecca, but it was the Infidels who of course had to be behind it, it was the Infidels who had to be attacked?).

And another inner howl of fury should be directed at those terminally naive and confused American officials, in both the Bush and Obama Administrations, who keep trying to lavish money on Pakistan, keep trying to think they must keep it going, keep telling themselves that the "good" Pakistanis are really capable of being won to our side, when all they are capable of is taking, and taking, and taking our money, our weapons, our everything.

Somebody's a big girl Today!! Happy Mothers Day! Coming out during Fashion Week!! HOMG the Dolce&Gabbana 2010 Fall Collection! silly me, you're probably still sleeveless.
So those pity partys with roland, who was the top and who was the bottom.

Hey Saleem! Wow, it sounds like the "findings" of the "study" I featured on ERsB last month might be accurate after all! LOL!

http://eleanorruth.typepad.com/blog/2010/08/revealing-study-most-muslim-men-are-gay-for-prophet-mohammad.html

following this story, i'd say for once, yep she’s as mad as a march hare. not saying 86 prison wouldn’t cure her.
in a previous court appearance, she said that stories about her being tortured by the Americans were another muslim lie.
she's not asking for an appeal and did not claim insanity. Prison is probably the best place for her either way.

A comment I put up several years ago about David McCutchion has comments on Pakistan that are worth re-reading today:

"I recently picked up at a book sale a copy of "The Miscellany," edited by P. Lal, and published in Calcutta. Issue #51 (June 1972), one of three devoted to the then recently-deceased, at age 41, of David McCutchion.

"An Englishman, David McCutchion was a lover of India, not of the william-dalrymplish sort, that is the kind who loves the luxe of the Moghul court and its love intrigues, nor the kind of Englishman (also william-dalrymplish) of the walking-across-half-a-continent-when-young sort, making use of local color of the human interest kind, often grizzled or wizened or picturesquely wizened and grizzled Muslims, to do the work for him (downmarket Byrons and Newbys, not to mention the now-unfashionable, because bookish, well-travelled Andre Gide in "Le Retour du Tchad"), but a true scholar, an Indophile who studied brick temples in Bengal, and Indian writing, was a friend of Satyajit Ray and all sorts of interesting people in Calcutta who never get the attention in the West that all those anti-Western islamisant arundhati-roys manage to get.

"
I read through The Miscellany #52 – and discovered a tribute from the Sanskrit (and Buddhism) scholar Richard Gombrich (son of E. H.), who opened his essay, titled “His Work Is Unrepeatable,” with this:

'The recent death of Mr. David McCutchion in Calcutta at the age of 41 is a catastrophe for oriental studies.”

'Gombrich describes McCutchion as a scholar who “devoted all his time, his money, and his exceptional energy and enthusiasm, to the study of arts and monuments which are fast disappearing.

' He tramped all over Bengal, both West and East, taking notes and photographs; his knowledge of the countryside was famous. A self-taught photographer, he spared no pains to take the perfect shot; and he leaves well over ten thousand colour slides and as many black and white photographs of high professional quality…..His greatest specialities were Bengali temple architecture and terra-cotta sculpture, the latter a lost skill of whose monuments little is known to the wider world; he also studied and collected Bengali scroll paintings. He explored many other parts of India too, and recorded even Gupta temples previously unknown.”

'And a little more, taken from a website:

“David McCutchion (1930-1972), English-born scholar, Indophile and early critic of Raja Rao, was an authentic pioneer: in his short lifetime...made a major contribution to the study of Bengali temples...one of the first scholars to write on the now much commented subject of Indian Writing in English....

'Born in Coventry, David attended that city's King Henry VIII Grammar School. He made it to Cambridge University the hard way, on intellectual merit alone. He read Modern Languages (French and German) at Jesus College.

'After graduating in 1953, he taught English for two years in southern France. He went to India in 1957.

'He worked there first as an English teacher...and later, as Professor and then Reader in Comparative Literature at Jadavpur University, Calcutta.... David's ground-breaking study of Bengali brick temples, The Temples of Bankura District, was published by Writers Workshop in 1972.”

"
David McCutchion lived through the war made by West Pakistan (now Pakistan) on East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, in 1970-71, a war in which Muslim fanatics in East Pakistan, locally called razakars, joined forces with the raping and murdering army of West Pakistan, accepting the argument that what was good for Pakistan – that is, staying one country – was necessarily good for Islam, and what was good for Islam was all that mattered.

"
Here is how, in a letter from England to a friend, McCutchion described the behavior of Pakistan:

“…We are raising funds {for those in what was then East Pakistan being murdered by the army of West Pakistan and its local, fervently Muslim East Pakistani collaborators], and hope to see the Minister of Overseas Development.

"What do I think of it all? Appalling…Pakistan should never have existed – it has cost more lives than the whole of the British Empire in 200 years.

"What should I think of a culture that burns down the British Council library in Lahore because an English publisher printed a picture of Mahomet?

"Fanaticism plus Machiavellianism plus brutality equals Islamic Pakistan.”

One More Time:

"What do I think of it all? Appalling...Pakistan should never have existed -- it has cost more lives than the whole of the British Empire in 200 years.

"What should I think of a culture that burns down the British Council library in Lahore because an English publisher printed a picture of Mahomet?

"Fanaticism plus Machiavellianism plus brutality equals Islamic Pakistan."

"Print out that last bit, and put it on your refrigerator, under the title: Pakistan.

Nice to be able to defend yourself. Notice how the target of the attack were armed and the attack failed. It is much more difficult to attack and kill people who have the training and the weapons to defend themselves.

We are not going to win this war by playing good defense.

@Yusef YK: Try saying those things even in jest, especially the one about muhammad being gay, will get you killed in your own community and in most muslim areas of the world. There is no fun in islam, certainly no such things as sarcasm nor a sense of humor, SO watch your back (or have the other guy watch it).

I wish Muhammad was Gay.

You do? What makes you think he wasn't? Had you and he lived at the same time in close proximity, what a gay ole time you would have...

"I do not have any mental illness," Ms. Siddiqui said.

That is what a lot of incarcerated mental patients say, just before they launch into a psychotic episode...

The above post is for general consumption and not directed at YK...

Thanks for the link. What a fortunate incident. To me, after reading the Qur'an, it clearly indicates that it was written by humans and that it had been edited. No Muslim can admit us and that frailty will lead to Islam's decline.

Folks - follow this link - http://www.aina.org/news/20080112005654.htm

I double dare Yusef to read this article.

A strange mix of half-truths and what actually happened.

Isn't this the very essence of Islam? An endless lines of dump trucks rolling in loads of bullshit to fertilize an ever worsening reality.

*** 4:142 ***

Surely the hypocrites strive to deceive Allah, and He shall requite their deceit to them.

That's what a deceitful liar god will get ya. But let's turn to the sincere. I for one can't wait to see the public appeals on this issue by Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Cameron Diaz. And then of course the controversial The Whole Ting Was-a-Plot movie by Oliver Stone. It'll be as tearful as with that cop murderer in Philly, who also enjoyed the exalted status of not being a white man, but instead being an obvious victim of racism.

YK, are you going from just being loopy to fruit loopy? Just keep in mind the immortal words of the mahadi monkeyman, " There are no gays in Iran". I believe this is the thought of every other muslim leader.
