I'm not sure I get the point of the post. Are you saying that when these books write about Christianity, they phrase their words in terms of "these people believe" whereas when they write about Islam, they speak of the beliefs of that religion as though they were documented fact?
rocket_girl, Yes. You must be a rocket scientist. ;-)
No further questions, M'Lud.
Outrageous. The above post should be sent far and wide. The publishing companies in question should be politely but firmly communicated with, and if they don't change, they should be boycotted and bankrupted. Politicians should be phoned and politely told about the content of the above post.

Despicable. Purely and utterly despicable!
And remember, whomever you speak to, give your name first, and ask the name of the person to whom you are speaking. If you know the name of the person at the other end, s/he is more likely to be responsible and communicate your message further up the hierarchy.
These examples are cut from the same cloth where the term “the Prophet Mohammed” appears on a regular basis in MSM, print, TV, online, as if it is de rigeur, doncha know, that everyone, tout de monde, KNOWS that Mohammed was not only a prophet but he was “the” prophet. [The correct phrasing of course would state that the historical person called Mohammed is considered by Muslims as the last prophet from the Islamic deity Allah.]
We should let these MSM peon/workers know that they have learned well their dhimmi lessons, and as a result are maintaining perfect 4.0 GPAs.
We should fight this as relentlessly as the GZ mosque. We should not let this go.
Looks as though jihad has progressed beyond stealth...
What garbage. It's almost written with the sole purpose to stir up a controversy. Call your congressman to put these book out of business, but don't make the obvious mistake of freaking out totally.
According to Professor Alan Billings, who teaches religious studies at Lancaster University, students would normally be made aware of the origins of the sacred texts and the history and development of the faith, the notion that there is a history and a development, and that people don't necessarily believe in the same way that they did in earlier centuries. "But with the Koran this is totally avoided," he said. "It is presented instead as if it has immediate and direct relevance, so you read off from that document into your present situation."
In other words, British universities are teaching the Koran not as an objective and detached analysis of a religion, as would be the case with teaches any other religion, but from the perspective of the most obscurantist believer that it is true and not open to challenge...

School da'wa is in full swing in Australia; both government and private (Christian schools) seem to have found reasons to promote Islam, and even make claims that students are just dying to learn about Islam and its glories, its art and ethics and how a Muslim spends his day. (Yes, truly.)
http://www.islammonitor.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3711:learning-from-one-another-virus-spreads&catid=205&Itemid=59
Australia has become a big marketplace for "education", not only in tertiary education but increasingly in secondary education. It is, after all, a great way for wealthy foreigners (or for families who pool their funds to send a young person to start the ball rolling) to acquire citizenship. Muslims at private Christian schools? Why not? All the schools have to do is Islamize the curriculum. No problem: none of the parents will notice, will they? Too busy with their careers.
Tip of the iceberg! There is a whole load of this sh!t going on in the educational systems throughout Dar al-Harb: http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/islamic-infiltration-and-subversion-of.html

Very true, Fscarn. References to "the Holy Quran" are the same, where it seems to be assumed that *everyone* considers this book "holy", and that no modifies such as "Islamic" or "considered by Muslims to be" are deemed necessary.
Disgusting but not surprising. As a college instructor for almost thirty years now I have been dealing with this double standard from poorly written textbooks (there really are extremely few good ones any longer dealing with Western history; all are more or less suffused with PC/MC nonsense, all the more so with each passing decade---it's a result of the stupid, narcissistic, self-loathing 1960s still functioning as an influence for idiocy masquerading as enlightenment).
As for rocket-girl, seems she could be the poster girl for the cumulative effect of the 1960s nonsense I already mentioned. I mean, how could she have asked what she did if not severely compromised by the destruction of modern education by the Modern Left (N.B., conservatism had NOTHING to do with all this nonsense; indeed it warned against it)? No critical faculty whatsoever it seems. A legacy in microcosm I suspect.
Australians used to refer to the "cultural cringe" whereby Australian artists and writers in the early to mid 20th century would always defer to the critical judgement of the Mother Country (the UK), from a sense of inferiority.
It seems we have a new "cultural cringe". I find this sort of thing pretty disgusting. It's nothing to do with whether one is a Christian or not, it is the sheer boot-licking quality of the references to Islam. Are these people completely spineless? They seem to answer the question themselves through their efforts to ingratiate themselves with Islam and its "Prophet" Mohammed (PBUH)- who amongst other things executed prisoners of war, advised that adulterers be stoned to death, endorsed assassination of his critics, carried out ethnic cleansing and consummated a marriage with a 9 year old girl.
Wellington, this is why, as a High School social studies teacher, I sometimes describe my job as being a professional swindler.
Maybe, though, the whole thing smacks of the moral cowardice of the cultural elite. I'm sure, that if you got the publishing executives, textbooks writers, and whoever into a private room, they'd say that they see Muslims as superstitious, benighted barbarians; but they don't want to get them mad.
"Muhammad was the messenger of Allah"...That's half of shahada...
"After the death of Jesus, his followers proclaimed that he had risen from death and had appeared to them".
After the death of Mahound his followers waited for him to rise from the dead...They waited for the golden chariot to arrive and take him to paradise...They waited for Allah and Gabriel to show up and give Mahound a glorious send off...After several days, and no gods, no angels, and no chariot, they buried him under his bed...
'And now you know the 'rest' of the story'...
Notsoshariah: As multiculturalism worked its magic in Australia I realized that our "cultural cringe", far from being vanquished, had transformed into a "global cultural cringe".
I notice this most particularly when I am with Sudanese and non-Sudanese here, as often happens. Australians are so deferential it is sickening. What special keys to wisdom do Australians think Sudanese have? What cultural or spiritual excuses for bad behaviour? Why can't they speak to them NORMALLY?
I also noticed it at university where Indian women got away with saying anything they liked, and accordingly were very arrogant.
But really, it seems there is no culture before which Australians will not prostrate themselves. Apart from who they rudely term the "Brits" who are now beneath us, apparently...loyalty to our own race and culture being somehow "bad form".
I am exaggerating, but I didn't get this impression from nowhere.
Muslims in school.
On 1st September 2004 Muslim jihad terror raiders attacked and took hostage a school full of young (primary age) pupils (together with the teachers and many of the children's family members, including grandparents, parents and little [4 years old and under] brothers and sisters) in Beslan, in the Russian Federation.
This
http://www.esquire.com/features/ESQ0606BESLAN_140
is one of the longest and most detailed continuous accounts, based on multiple interviews with survivors, of what happened from that moment until Russian forces stormed the school, killed the jihadists, and freed the surviving hostages (many of the hostages were murdered by the jihadists throughout the three days they were held; some, tragically, were killed in the crossfire as the troops charged in; but I am prepared to cut the young Russian soldiers a lot of slack, I think they did quite well under appallingly difficult circumstances).
If you search the jihadwatch archives, you will find a lot of news reports and much discussion bearing on the Beslan jihad terror raid.
Here's one thread;

I encourage new visitors to this site to click and read, and then explore further. You will learn a lot. You will learn all sorts of things about Islam-on-the-ground and jihad-as-practised, that I suspect the authors of the books mentioned in Mr Spencer's posting above - 'Global History and Geography' and 'World History' and 'The Western Heritage' - will discreetly gloss over.
Western-style schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan and Iraq have been blown up by jihadists (they are particularly hostile to schools for girls).
In Iraq, one school newly-built with American money was discovered to have been sabotaged while a-building; one or more of the Muslims engaged in building it, or perhaps someone infiltrating the building site, had literally incorporated explosive charges into the very structure of the building, with fuse wires leading away into an adjoining block: all ready to be set off whenever the Muslim saboteurs thought good (i.e. at a time when they could be sure of maximum casualties). The school-with-built-in-bombs plot was foiled because an alert non-Muslim noticed one end of the fuse wire and investigated.
Muslim jihadists once raided and took hostage a school in Israel (they also hijacked a school bus).
Jihadis just love schools - for schools are a 'soft target', full of defenceless victims, little kids who can be terrorised, raped, beaten and murdered without the smallest risk of the abuser meeting any significant resistance.
(It should be noted that Muslim children attending Muslim 'religious' or 'Quranic' schools, madrassas, are very often sexually and physically abused; Ayaan Hirsi Ali herself was very nearly killed when her Quran tutor, in Kenya, smashed her head against a wall when beating her for insubordination).
I remember my father demanding, decades ago, that each of his four offspring offer up a "highlight" of their day whilst eating dinner.
Not one of us was allowed to excuse ourselves from the table until we came up with a highlight that sufficed my father's expectations.
Not surprisingly, most of the highlights consisted of what was learned at school.
Each of us, after giving our highlight, was subjected (I thought at the time!) to a battery of questions.
I know now, and have known for years, that my father was attempting and succeeding in making us think.
His very first declaration prior to questioning us was, "Let me tell you how it really is."
The point of this story is education always should eventually reside at home.
I mean no disparagement to educators, but the final "finishing" is the responsibility of the parent(s).
My siblings and I are lucky to have had, and still have, the parents we do.

Some *very* disturbing stuff, Sean—especially the "role playing" where Infidel children are required to pray to "Allah", in some cases even reciting the Shahada, making these kids apostates if they go back being non-observant, or to worshipping as Christians or Jews. Also appalling is the forced fasting for non-Muslim kids during Ramadan and the enforced gender segregation during that grim "festival". Things are even worse in Britain, overall, than here in the States.
Then there is the blatant re-writing of history in the following:
They are at it again , this time its an organization called "the Foundation for Science Technology and Civilization (FSTC), a Manchester-based organization set up to raise awareness of the contributions of the Muslim world to modern civilization.
This organization actually states "The period between the 7th and 17th centuries - which has been erroneously labeled 'the Dark Ages' - was in fact a time of exceptional scientific and cultural advancement in China, India and the Arab world," Prof. Salim Al-Hassani, chief editor of the book, said.
...............
For one thing, the term "Dark Ages"—though always rather imprecise—has generally referred to the period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the first reawakenings of learning and commerce in Europe in the Middle Ages—from the 5th century to the 10th or 11th centuries or so.
The shift to the "7th century" is clearly—and oddly—a reference to the rise of Islam. The most astonishing reference, however, is to the Dark Ages lasting until the *17th century*—after the Renaissance, and deep into the scientific revolution and to the cusp of the Age of Reason.
Notice, too, that despite the thought of Leonardo da Vinci, Francis Bacon, and René Descartes; the explorations of Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan; the scientific work of Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Pascal, Newton, Robert Hooke, Isaac Newton, Edmond Halley and many others; and the rise of Humanism, reason, and the scientific method, that "scientific and cultural advancement" is only associated with "China, India and the Arab world" and not with Europe in any way.
Repulsive. Out of self-hatred we in the West are re-writing ourselves out of history, and opportunistic Muslims are only too glad to help.

HAHA! Tamara Holder, on O'Reilly's Culture Warriors, just tried to pass off CAIR supplied anti-muslim hate crime statistics as reliable!
To their credit, both O'Reilly and Grethchen Carlson called her on it, LOUDLY.
More Lefty-Libby BS.
I'd love to contact my Senator and Representative, but do you think Frankin and Ellison will give a crap?
Astounding that three recent text books would all take this approach: anything about Islam is stated as fact, anything about Christianity is presented as belief.
Of course, this is exactly what most of the media does too. We read about the Prophet Muhammad, the holy month of Ramadan, and the holy city of Mecca.
In a similar vein, just this evening on CBC Radio, there was a piece on Glen Beck and his recent rally in Washington. The CBC announcer assumed a mocking tone and played audio of Beck talking about Moses. I didn't catch it all, but the tone was unmistakable.
I don't recollect CBC ever assuming that tone when reporting on a Muslim rally.
"I mean no disparagement to educators, but the final "finishing" is the responsibility of the parent(s)."
Spot on, Aiken! ...having put 4 children through public school, hubby and I have had to make many *corrections* over things taught to them through textbooks. Parents are ultimately responsible for what they expose their children to, which means sitting down and reviewing their textbooks, going over the curriculum with their teachers, and involving yourself with their homework, etc.
FROM ONE OF THE CORE ISLAMIC TEXTS, A HADITH IN WHICH MUHAMMAD SAID THERE IS TO BE NO PUNISHMENT FOR MURDERING SOMEONE WHO INSULTS MUHAMMAD:
Here, from Sunan Abu-Dawud, a hadith collection considered canonical by mainstream Muslim scholars, is a hadith that shows Muhammad supporting the murder of a woman by her husband, merely because she used to speak to her husband insultingly about Muhammad:
Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 38, Number 4348:
There are various examples in the core Islamic texts of Muhammad having those who insult Islam killed.
IN THE EARLIEST MUSLIM BIOGRAPHY OF MUHAMMAD, pages 511-517 (758-766 in the Arabic) WE LEARN HOW IN KHAYBAR MUHAMMAD ORDERED THE TORTURE AND BEHEADING OF A MAN IN ORDER TO GET HOLD OF A TREASURE, AND HOW A FEW DAYS LATER MUHAMMAD TOOK INTO HIS PRIVATE TENT FOR CONSUMMATION OF "MARRIAGE" THE TORTURED MAN'S WIFE, WHOSE FATHER AND OTHER MALE RELATIVES MUHAMMAD HAD ALSO RECENTLY KILLED:
FYI

PJG -
Well I am not a "race" loyalist. How can you be "loyal" to genes that might kill you at any moment? LOL
I am loyal to the truth.
And the truth is that Mohammed was a deeply unpleasant individual who set the worst sort of examples for humanity. The fact that Islam dictates the reverse, shows merely that it is very cultish in the way it reveres Mohammed.
No one will ever get me to say otherwise. And there are many people here who feel likewise. I feel only pity and contempt for those Dhimmis who genuflect to such a diseased religion.
Maybe if Jesus had beheaded 600 people and robbed caravans and married a 9 year old girl and took slaves...?
I guess the blunt fact that, as for Islam, The Qur'an is as warlike as Mein Kampf . Peace in Islam is as Hitler defined it: "There will be peace when Aryans alone rule the world."
Yet the blunt similarity escapes the school texts.
Or the simple facts are that Anyone who acts like Muhammad will be a sexual pervert, a scheming and or vicious thief, and a genocidal terrorist. Anyone who obeys the Qur'an will be a mercenary - a killer motivated by greed. And abused child who became a serial abuser
when mainline religious leader failed for 13 yrs to motivate but 150 or so people.
His beginnings give good indication as to the origins for his later capacities. He was without a father, his mother, poor, abandoned him, and she gave him to a bedouin women to be suckled. And that one did it for remuneration, not love, but there wasn't much to be had by raising the boy. And that one was ill prepared to take care of the boy. The abuse that likely ensured shaped and formed that boy into what he was to become. An orphan boy, with wealthy relatives, who shut him out of their business, their wealth. When he was two, he was taken back by the women Halima, to his mother Aminah. Ishaq:72 related that the women told his mother 'I am afraid that ill will befall him, so I have brought him back to you'. She asked what had happened. 'I said, I fear that a demon has possessed him....other passages relate that his mother died. He was cared for by a slave girl, before his grandfather Abdul Mutalib finally took an interest. But he died and mohammed was entrusted to an uncle Abu Talib.
So there's no prophetic occurences, nothing much but the abused childhood that would gravitate into the sadistic cult that the man would propagate, the life of which the Meccans would ridicule for his aggressiveness, his being a very poor neighbor, his plagarized bible stories and his worse turn in Medina to the cunning pirate killer, the abuser of every rule of civility held by the other pagan tribes who never dreamt of attacking and murdering during their holy month of ramadan, nor attacking their fellow tribesman as we see to this day, during Mohammed's co-apted month of Ramadan- where deaths go up, due to terror attacks against perceived enemies.
He was not a very nice man, and in fact, his life is a disgrace by any honest, reasonable examination of his acts and deeds... for which his 'religion' demands him to be viewed as the perfect man.
I guess I'm not going to get that book job with the companies that tell the ridiculous version so far peddled with mind numbing absurdity upon absurdity.
But then I won't someday be found out to be a peddler of absurdity's, of nonsense that excused and allowed a political tyranny to be peddled under the banner of a man despicable in his lack of character, swimming in sociopathology, and the bearer of the dead to the tune of more than 270 millions murdered since he walked on the earth some 1400 yrs ago.
I'm sure your "corrections" involving biology and geology were perfectly scientific and had not been influenced in the least by any superstitious dogma. Poor kids!
"Muhammad was the messenger of Allah"...That's half of shahada...
Seing it that way makes it even worse indeed. Good observation! And the other half missing is an obvious, so we could even state that it's a complete shahada, or a total submission to islam and its narrative.
Are you implying that parents are incapable of educating their own children?
Are you implying that parents of said children are inadequately educating their children in the "biological and geological" sciences as you so quote?
Are you implying that those parents who demand control over their own offspring's education are creating children who are somehow ill equipped to deal with this world?
What kind of expert are you?
But more importantly for all of us is, WHO ARE YOU?
Or maybe I don't understand your sarcasm?
If so, I apologize.
I see my error now.
Truly, my apologies.
Aiken.

Aiken Bryce, poster maxilo has had heated disagreements in the past with Champ when she has made reference to her Christian faith. I believe this is more of the same.
Wellington,
Yes, it's not merely in terms of Islam that Western textbooks fail; it's also in terms of the revisionism calculated to make students ashamed of their American, and Western, heritage. After a certain point, for example, the entire saga of the American Indians (I refuse to refer to them as "Native Americans", for that term is part of the deformation) has been skewed to make them out to be wonderfully peaceful people in touch with Nature who were relentlessly brutalized by the evil white Europeans and later, the evil white Americans. Ditto for slavery, the internment of Japanese-Americans, the Anti-Communist movement, the execution of the Rosenburgs; etc.
All this prior PC MC is precisely why Islam in our education and news media institutions is whitewashed, even hagiographically: Islam fits perfectly into the paradigm, as a perceived non-white, non-Western, "ethnic", "Third World" "culture" that therefore -- unthinkingly -- must be glowingly cradled and defended while we continue our ongoing project of feeling shame and repugnance for our own heritage.
I definitely agree that a huge part of this problem is that we, as Americans, are encouraged to be ashamed of our history and heritage.
Just out of curiosity, though, how should we feel about the internment of the Japanese during WWII? Obviously it is something that we should not beat ourselves up about nowadays, but it was a pretty raw deal for a lot of American citizens who had nothing to do with the actions of the Japanese military. Just wanted to get your opinion on this matter.
I think the language used reveals exactly where the publishers stand. The Christians "believed" that Jesus was the annoited. They "believed" that he was risen from the dead. However, every statement about Mohammad was written as "fact".... "Muhammad WAS the messenger of Allah"..."[Muhammad] began to receive revelations from the angel Gabriel, who recited God's word to him at irregular intervals."...instead of Muhammad "believed" he recieved revelations...."
A little biased from my POV.
"Islam fits perfectly into the paradigm, as a perceived non-white, non-Western, "ethnic", "Third World" "culture" that therefore -- unthinkingly -- must be glowingly cradled and defended while we continue our ongoing project of feeling shame and repugnance for our own heritage."
What you are describing is Postmodernism - the anti-rational, anti-Western, culturally self-loathing pseudo-philosophy which permeates academia. http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/islam-cultural-self-loathing-and.html
The world is biased against Christ to be sure.

"[Muhammad's] psychotic illness kicked in and he began to suffer from delusions and said he had received revelations from the angel Gabriel, who recited God's word to him at irregular intervals. However, these so-called revelations had been sent by God to mankind before, so it was a strange thing for the Creator of the Universe to send them twice - unless Mo was lying his head off to a bunch of gullible Bedouins. Furthermore, it depends on what you call a revelation! Saying that God had revealed to him that it was OK to rape captive women seems to be rather low on the scale of what we generally think of as a revelation. Not quite up to the standard of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, is it?" -- The Western Heritage Ninth Edition, by Donald Kagan, Steven Ozment and Frank M. Turner, Pearson Prentice Hall, and later edited by Buraq 2007. P. 200
Homework question: Write ONE word, 'likely' or 'unlikely' as a response to the following question posed by David Hume nearly 250 years ago.
"Which is more likely -- that a man should be used as a transmitter by God to deliver some already existing revelations, or that he should utter some already existing revelations and believe himself to be, or claim to be, ordered by God to do so?"
Shemuel,
That's the reason Robert posted it: to show the outrageous bias favoring Islam in textbooks today. The publishers are pressured by groups like CAIR on how to present Islam.
I seem to recall a Jihad Watch article about this from a couple of years ago.
"Which is more likely -- that a man should be used as a transmitter by God to deliver some already existing revelations, or that he should utter some already existing revelations and believe himself to be, or claim to be, ordered by God to do so?"
Unlike most other religions, Islam didn't start off as a coherent body of doctrine. It began as the rantings and ravings of a psychopathic pedophile, which were altered according to the requirements of his debauched lifestyle. The Koran is full of internal contradictions, with the more violent verses 'abrogating' (i.e. cancelling) the more peaceful ones.
Nor was Islam spread by missionary efforts as with other religions. It was imposed by the sword by a thuggish bunch of robbers, rapists and murderers who were attracted by Mohammed's offer of divinely approved raids of rape and pillage. Mohammed bragged that he had been made victorious with terror.
Consequently, the later Muslims had to try to do a retrofit of theology and philosophy on to what was a pig's breakfast of garbled Jewish and Christian beliefs mixed up with Mohammed's ramblings and ravings. They soon gave up on the philosophy, and didn't do much better with the theology... http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/tawhid-or-tawheed-versus-christian.html

Muslims employ taqqiya which is lying to a non-believer in such a way as to benefit islam... just the same way that Nerobama claims he's a christian, but in actuality is a muslim. He does this to deceiving people into accepting him because they otherwise would not accept a muslim in the WH.
Secondly - As part of this taqqiya, they like to say that it was the archangel Gabriel who spoke to Mohammed in the cave. It was the fallen angel Jibreel, not Gabriel. Two entirely separate entities with two completely different messages. As a Christian, I've studied the Bible for over 30 years now, and have compared islam to real Christianity: Christianity is like a precious gem of God's truths vs the garbage of satan.
I make it a point to point out that no - Gabriel and Michael (two holy angels of God) are righteous and Gabriel is not Jibreel.
Also I take strong issue of translating allah as God. Again: The term Allāh is derived from a contraction of the Arabic definite article al- "the" and ʼilāh "deity, god" to al-lāh meaning "the [sole] deity, god"
The God of the Torah and Bible is a loving God. The god of islam is the god of this world: satan. One just has to look at the 'fruits' of the True God of Heaven and earth vs the unholy monstrosity known satan.
"The God of the Torah and Bible is a loving God. The god of islam is the god of this world: satan. One just has to look at the 'fruits' of the True God of Heaven and earth vs the unholy monstrosity known satan."
Quite true, Flightdeck! ...and I also enjoy comparing Jesus vs Muhammad, too ...

I find this link very informative since someone put a lot of time and effort in creating this comparison :)
This is quite scary..Not quite there yet, but well on its way to be similar to school text books I was tough as a child in a muslim country...the next episonde would state as fact to school children that all are pagans and Islam is the true path to light.
If Obama wants to fix the school system, with his already known stand on the issues, and this level of collusion to stealth jihad....our kids are in deep trouble.
As you know, I'm not a Christian, but I have been arguing with leftists lately who try and make the case that Christianity is just as big of an evil as Islam, if not more so. It's almost funny how desperately pathetic their arguments are. Of course, they don't listen to mine, but it's nice to know the truth is on my side.
I think Obama has guaranteed he will be a one term president, and his support for this mosque will be the nail in his political coffin.
Let's hope we can get a strong conservative in office (not a George W clone) to help clean up this gigantic mess and undo a lot of Obama's decisions.
Notsoshariah: You may well be loyal to "truth" and I know what you mean and I feel the same way, but...I hope you are not put in the situation where you realise that people of other races are ganging up on YOU and that your little friend truth is not much use to you at that moment, that in fact you are in need of something rather more prosaic.
Race and culture are often hard to separate, and are even harder for people who are particularly tribal, or terrifically proud of their race, such as the Han Chinese. As in so many situations, it takes two to tango.
That's actually soothing in an ironic way..My understanding is that the liberal "elite" are already at the stage where Christianity is "the" big evil and Islam is the core of civilisation, peace and harmony...if that's not the case yet, we are well on our way to that place..
The group I'm arguing with operate in this manner:
1) They all have a long history of savagely berating Christians and Christianity
2) I savagely berate Islam
3) They put on the kid gloves, make allowances for Islam, and constantly try and change the topic to Christianity.
4) I call them out on their hypocrisy and double standards
5) They accuse me of being a bigot/Islamophobe/hate-monger/Hitler/fascist
One of them even said a monument to the Twin Towers would be "the pro-torture right wing's altar to American imperial interests." This guy is a lawyer. I guess after so many years of defending scumbags, many lawyers become scumbags themselves. They are used to defending murderers and rapists, so they might as well defend radical Muslims.
"The God of the Torah and Bible is a loving God. The god of islam is the god of this world: satan. One just has to look at the 'fruits' of the True God of Heaven and earth vs the unholy monstrosity known satan."
Jesus prophesied Mohammed in the Bible
http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/jesus-prophesied-muhammad-in-bible.html
The three comparisons are typically of those who I understand as being practicing Interfaithers: anything Christian is described with lifted eyebrows, a half-doubt, less than non-committal, claims only, "it is their right to say so but no-one really believe it", "we are obliging you by saying so, but really! ...I mean really!!". Whereas the Islamic contention is acknowledged right away without limiters: Allah becomes God, everything experienced by the puppet master is described as fact, suddenly everything is palatable.
I some way I understand Academia very well, they have careers and a safe life, they want to travel and study unhindered. Bashing religion is the safest thing on earth as long as you know how to go about it: who to bash and who not to, and you emerge as the epitome of reasoned fairness..
What is quite ironic..is that Islam is not a new invention, nor it is a historic idiology that predate our time..Islam as paractice and preached by "mainstream muslims" not the "fringe of the fringe" is excatly what the "stereotype" is..The Islam that I grew up with and encountered up untill today in countries ranging from Malaysia, Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Algeria, West Africa bloc and Iraq, is the same harmonious, flowing, uniterrupted EVIL..I am not taking sacred text in dusty boks..I am taking lively public debates, talk shows, TV dramas, news papaer articles, government creeds, laws, judgements, public discrouse etc..I can only imagine the cutlural elite you are debating with starting in vaccum, completely missing the elephant in the room while scratching their heads and professing what they believe is the ultimate truth..which is actually utter ignorance of facts easily accessible..you just need a plane ticket to a muslim country and an honest arabic translator, get yourself seated in a comfy seat in a cafe near a mosque, and listen to Friday sermon, Halaq lesson afer Isha prayers etc....
Yes that's a good website. You know, they should have consulted the bible for those Christian quotes instead of some apostate false teacher of the present age.
in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. Col 2:9
I can only imagine the cutlural elite you are debating with starting in vaccum, completely missing the elephant in the room while scratching their heads and professing what they believe is the ultimate truth..which is actually utter ignorance of facts easily accessible..
You are absolutely right, and this is why people like you are invaluable in this movement. You know, first hand, what Islam is and the rotten fruit it bears all over the world. Lefties in this country and elsewhere in the West feel comfortable with their politically correct stance on Islam because they think they are relatively safe from harm in their little suburban bubbles. They know that if they dared to question their unsupported axiom, they would be ostracized from their liberal brethren, and that is a risk liberals are not willing to take. They are lying cowards.
Every one of us is at threat here, conservatives, liberals, feminists, pre life, pro choice, gay activists, anti gay, jews, christians, Bahai's, mormons, athiests, blacks, whites.. the very fabric of western civilisation that allows liberals to be liberals.."I do not want for my offspring to live as a minority in a majority muslim nation, with Turkish and Arabic dominating the colloquial language, women wearing hijab, and the call for prayer regulating the daily pace of events" Thilo Sarrazin, German politician just dismissed from his job a few minutes ago because of this statement
That is so ridiculous.
It is noon here in Istanbul. I am currently watching a daytime talk show. There is an older woman wearing a sequined top showing enough cleavage to blind a bus-load of 12 year old boys.
Sitting on the couch with her is a much younger woman with a skirt so short I can see what she ate for breakfast.
Now who's and what sensibilities would the red foxes insult?
The French government is constantly trying to appease the ZUS (sensitive urban zones), a euphemism for one of the 751 No-Go areas (African or Muslim neighborhoods) where the police, fire services and ambulances are regularly attacked. During the early morning hours of August 29th, arsonists used gasoline to set fire to a brand-new nursery (cost 400,000 Euros) equipped with the latest conveniences (the second time this site had been attacked). A gym and a sports club in this same neighborhood have also been destroyed. The government is rushing ahead to rebuild.
A key sentence from the newspaper report:
"Une implantation qui "correspond à une volonté forte de pacifier et redynamiser le quartier via des symboles de la République" , selon Maryse Joissains. An implementation which "corresponds to a strong desire to pacify and revitalize the neighborhood through the symbols of the Republic," said Maryse Joissains.
Note the word PACIFY. Immigrants are at war with the filthy kuffars who lavish them with jizya payments, but the dhimmis don't realize what is going on.

This is a symbol of the high respect certain immigrants have for education /sarc
A hint of what awaits the US if we continue to admit immigrants who express nothing but contempt for our way of life and harass the ones who genuinely like it here.

Several YouTubes. Must watch series.
I know a Copt in the Sudan who would vehemently support what you are saying.
I actually forgot to mention Sudan, Yemen, Maldives and the West Bank as muslim countires I have been to/lived in...all the same nice flow of the same doctrine...trust me all.. you don't want this for yourselves nor for your offspring...they might try to sell you a romantic utopia called "Cordoba" the only romance here is the enslaved white chics of spain bedding arab jihadist by force as part of the shariah rules on war and conquered people...You migth want to get a more elaborate picture on the slave trade condcuted by the arab muslim north against the non-muslim south, which was thriving untill recently when southerners actually stood up for themselves..
PJG ,
" I also noticed it at university where Indian women got away with saying anything they liked, and accordingly were very arrogant."
Thank you for mustering the courage to say this TRUTH at last that I have always felt for several years. Without any prodding from me , my own child told me the same thing when sent abroad to pursue college education.
Indians would deny vehemently. But Indians are INCREDIBLY SUPERCILIOUS. Keep painting only a negative picture about the West. If I were to put it very simply bluntly Indians lack GRACE.
Even today whatever appreciation or solidarity with the Westerners they express does not come from WITHIN SPONTANEOUSLY. It is the lugubriously deplorable conditions in India that make them posture. They do not want to risk being sent back.
Another thing I don't like is they behave almost like these muslims by insisting on building too many temples from America to Australia. Add to that the plethora of too many faux godmen godwomen enjoying tax exempt NGO status.
The original ancient Temples with a rich gravitas behind them WITHIN India are in disrepair , crumbling & mismanaged. That can never be recreated duplicated elsewhere.
If they cannot integrate seamlessly why leave India at all? If they cannot find the SAME GOD in Churches & Synagogues abroad God shall ever remain inaccessible to them.
In Middle East these Indians behave. They dare not agitate for temple buildings as they know they would be instantly deported. And they are very happy here. Hence cleanliness also gets maintained.
Whereas the liberty offered by you gets exploited to the hilt by them. They even want to supplant baseball with cricket.I cannot give you proof but I know.
Indians always keep crowing , but for their presence in America Computer Technology itself would fade into oblivion. There are lots more instances I have been silently observing I dare not write. At once these Indians would turn as violent as jihadists there.
As a tourist or a permanent resident I don't want to see another India abroad. It is so depressing for me.
These are MY strong OPINIONS. I will never be able to say this in any Indian blog or forum. Indians carry all their negativities wherever they go & ruin whatever they are entrusted with. They can never subsume their bloated ego & function as a trustworthy pillar of support. They are perennially full of disgruntled sighs and envious towards the Gracious Host Country. They think they alone are the most intelligent & some supreme inheritors of supreme civilization forever repeating we only discovered zero yada yada.
If I express for instance my preference to watch a Hollywood movie I get branded unpatriotic , slave of the Westerner etc. I find Indians are very rude , impolite and extremely lousy lacklustre in communication skills also.
They make such useless teachers , lecturers compared to the Westerners. India itself would benefit immensely by letting the West take charge of affairs in India too. This sickening pervasive fetish for political correctness does not help anyone. We only end up promoting perpetuating mediocrity & shoddy standards.
I am not interested in any subsequent discussion with any Indian on this matter. I repeat these are my STRONG OPINIONS.
Dear Kepha, since you are a teacher you are still in the position of offering your students balanced approach. Students learn or absorb far more from direct interaction with the teachers. Fostering critical thinking, analytical skills coupled with love of learning will equip the students to make sense of the mess. Textbooks are meant to serve as tools and resources.
So afraid to offend Muslim sensitivity? Dhimmitude well learned.
In complete agreement with you, Hesperado, including refusing to refer to American Indians as Native Americans, who, by the way, per capita were great wasters of the environment. I would vigorously assert that the whole story of America, warts and all, be told.
Yes, American Indians were very badly treated by white civilization, black slavery was a terrible wrong and internment of Japanese-Americans is not a shining moment in our history but virtually all peoples have treated other peoples badly, taken their land, subordinated them or slaughtered them, but no country more than America has openly acknowledged its wrongdoing, has made more attempts to rectify such wrongdoing and has also achieved so much and provided liberty to so many. No one does America a favor by either just concentrating on its wrongs or only on what good it has accomplished. The whole story needs to be told and the old history textbooks from seventy-five years ago or so were in error for not pointing out more than they did what wrongs America committed and now the new texbooks have gone in the other direction to an excessive degree and focus in typical PC/MC fashion on America's transgressions.
Fortunately, the tide has begun to turn with works like Paul Johnson's history of America and Schweikart and Allen's "A Patriot's History of the United States," the latter being written to refute the almost absurdly negative view of American history by the late Howard Zinn. Well, truth has a way of coming out in the end, whether about America, Islam or anything, though often times it takes a long time for this to occur.
@ traeh: Thank you, but I was being coy. It is obvious what is going on here for sure. The Islamic agenda is being pushed under the guise of political correctness and religious freedom. Even though I appreciate the quoting of scripture comparing Christianity and Islam (I myself being a Christian), I think that simply quoting scripture to our government officials will fall on deaf ears. To the common person, it is EVIDENT that Islam is not a religon of peace.
@Istanbul_Chick : you could see all that through a burka?
Oh, I find it funny that I've been saying the same things about Islamic inconsistancy since the day after 09/11, back then they called me a patriot, today, I was called a biggot. Awesome.
To anyone reading down this far, a word of caution. All of us have a tendency to do this, and Jews in public schools have encountered it. My wife complained 40 years ago about a lesson on "The Story of Christmas, and the LEGEND of Chanukah."
..."I have been arguing with leftists lately who try and make the case that Christianity is just as big of an evil as Islam, if not more so."
Hi, Allah Snackbar ...yeah, I think that they may take that position simply for arguments sake, since there is nothing that leftists can actually point to in the Bible about Jesus--which was either stated by Him, or written about Him in the New Testament--that would make Christianity on par with islam, or worse. To those that choose the tangential, moral equivalency route, then I like to recommend Robert's book, Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is And Islam Isn't. I hope that you are well.
Allah Snackbar,
"Just out of curiosity, though, how should we feel about the internment of the Japanese during WWII? Obviously it is something that we should not beat ourselves up about nowadays, but it was a pretty raw deal for a lot of American citizens who had nothing to do with the actions of the Japanese military. Just wanted to get your opinion on this matter."
Sometimes raw deals have to happen. The internment was rational, given what we knew about Japanese culture -- its propensity for 1) fanaticism, for 2) loyalty to its own culture that could supersede loyalty to the USA, for 3) masking one's true feelings. (Sounds familiar, eh? These three factors also characterize Muslims -- but far more so.)
These three factors, combined with what we already knew prior to Pearl Harbor about Japan's supremacist and outrageously brutal and fanatical militarism that began years before WW2 ever broke out (the Japanese were able to marshall armies that went out to slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent Filipinos, a million Chinese, not to mention others) -- then factor in the supremacist designs of the Emperor who boasted about how he wanted to topple the USA, and who joined Hitler in an alliance: then it makes eminent sense to round up all Japanese-American citizens and inter them at least for the duration of the war.
The US Supreme Court at the time never ruled it unconstitutional; nor has any Supreme Court since that time so ruled. Only that higher court -- the Super Supreme Court of Political Correctness -- has overturned the US Supreme Court. Now, all Americans must feel a Holocaustish "Never Again" feeling about internment because it was a "shameful chapter" in our history.
One can glimpse just how much power to reach into the hearts of Americans that higher court has by the very fact that you, Allah Snackbar, can't quite seem to rid yourself of a gnawing feeling that we did something wrong. It was not wrong: it was right: The majority of the American people then, still largely un-diseased by PC MC, the President (with some minor misgivings at first, being the Leftist he was), and Congress all recognized the exigency of the act.
The French novelist and writer of travelogues Pierre Loti lived about a year in Istanbul and traveled around Turkey circa 1900. In his book Istanbul, he recounts a couple of times visiting a kind of puppet show popular among the Muslim Turks, where they would bring children as well. He reported that the puppet shows and other little plays they put on for entertainment were so filthy they would make the roughest English sailors blush.
" Sometimes raw deals have to happen. The internment was rational, given what we knew about Japanese culture -- ...
..
then it makes eminent sense to round up all Japanese-American citizens and inter them at least for the duration of the war".
At last am I gratified to hear that! I am in total agreement with you. Your comments about Indian Americans too. That American influence has impacted civilization for the better.
But this has to be more VOCIFEROUSLY told. And Westerners have to be much more vigilant & alert.
I know of at least one influential Japanese born & brought up in the West but doing something not proper in my view.
She wields ENORMOUS clout in the University she works. Extremely shrewd & dissembling with an Indian husband who is the typical conceited Indian calling the Whites 'racists'. Both of them have very strong leftist leanings or call it anti Western animosity. Hence bends rules illegally arranging for visas to Iranians , Afghanis , Indians , Sri Lankans manipulating lot of stuff inside departments conferring even doctorates on them.
She would make some other student write out the entire research paper for an undeserving Iranian or Afghani student. Who bring their husbands entire family to Canada , America working as taxi drivers etc. She pulls the appropriate strings in Immigration etc finding 'jobs' for them all. She hoodwinks many calling it all humanitarian gestures or some cleverly worded thing. Is anti Wal Mart. Anti anything that is the pride of America / Canada.
Serendipitously I stumbled upon all these nefarious murky affairs. The reason : she is full of concealed & congealed hostility towards the West for that 'internment' & this is her way of taking revenge. They are the ones causing erosion of educational standards in world class Colleges Universities founded by the West.
But she does not CARE. No one is going to find out. Has made plenty of money & consolidated her career. Both husband & wife frquently host cocktail parties & assiduously 'work' on people invited. One plucky Canadian White who exposed them was made to lose his job , vilified a homo , bipolar , forcibly "restrained with psychotropic drugs ". And he died abruptly.
Believe me every word I have written is true. That man called Brian is or rather was exceptionally brilliant in the respective field of Horticulture / Plant Science far far more knowledgeable than this Japanese cunning crafty sweet voiced sweet smiling cute Japanese Professor. So much for religion impacting her ( buddhism).
That Indian Keralite husband himself said he owes everything to the magnanimity of the Whites who groomed him well giving him education everything without an iota of discrimination. YET he calls them all * racists*. If he is born with dark skin & is unattractive are Whites responsible for that ? How ridiculous. But that is how they all are.
Which made me call them on the whole ungrateful & untrustworthy.
Once I recall Hugh Fitzgerald had very perceptively pointed out they learn everything from us , imitate us in the way we walk talk picking up all trendy phrases words etc & then lord over us with contempt spitting on us. Not Hugh's exact words. I am recalling the import.
Even in dating these people have such contempt towards the Whites calling them all (sic) pushovers , promiscuous taking them to bed not out of love but as some kind of conquest , making a statement. Badmouthing the same guileless Whites behind their backs.
If they can't find a lover call them 'racists'. Those arrogant male relatives now having grown up married children all well entrenched in America , Canada , Australia often would remark :-
" Those Western women are very expensive to start with...you have to buy flowers and treat them as equals... with Indian women no such hassles ...arranged marriages are so stable..and then wax eloquently about the greatness of vandemataram indian great great culture.
I really DETEST all these Indian culture vultures. Bloodiest grotesquestest HYPOCRITES. They are so unethical & unscrupulous but self congratulatory thigh slappers.
Wellington ,
There is absolutely no need for the West to keep on feeling apologetic. Enough of that I feel. As you yourself so beautifully put who would want to go back in retrogade motion ?
And when we all know basic values are the same , the core message of both Jesus Christ & Upanishads is the same Indians need not overreact crying wolf.
On the whole visiting the West as a tourist has been a well deserved humbling enlightening experience for me. Of course I owe immensley to Ramana Bhagavan the way He conducted Himself interacting so Graciously with the Westerners-Christians , Jews , Agnostics , Atheists , Women & Children.
Never ever did He say indians alone are superior.
You know, I was asking your opinion because I was genuinely interested in what you had to say. I don't see why you continually feel the need to go into "attack mode" at the slightest hint that you are not being 100% agreed with.
I never said that I thought it was "wrong" to intern the Japanese during WWII. I agree that it was a necessary thing to do. I am merely saying that it is unfortunate that many innocent Japanese Americans, those who were not loyal to Japan at all, had to be interned because of what the Japanese military did. I don't think acknowledging this makes me a "Leftist" or "politically correct." Wellington admits that this event wasn't exactly a shining moment in America... is he a politically correct leftist too?
I agree. We did what we felt was necessary in a time of war. No apologies necessary. And, a lot of people don't realize that Canada interred Germans as well - including German Jews, whom I would think would have more of a legitimate beef about that than the Japanese. Fortunately, the authorities had the sense to keep the Jews in separate facilities, though sometimes mix-ups did happen.
But it isn't so much the Japanese here that want to bring up "old wounds". We have the Chinese, offended over a head tax imposed on them in the early half of the 20th century, and the Sikhs, upset over the deportation of the Sikhs onboard a Japanese ship in 1914. In both cases, the people were coming here as knowing scab labour - undercutting Canadian labour and freezing Canadians out of the workforce. The Asians would accept pennies where Canadians needed dollars to survive. As the government back then still gave half a damn about the welfare of Canadians, the response was to discourage Chinese by the head tax, and to declare that "refugees" must depart from the country they are fleeing from - no stops along the way, as the Sikhs had done by going to Japan first.
The scream for apologies, and got them. I'm waiting for THEM to apologize for being the scab labour pool of the planet and for totally messing up the North American worker.
Religious indoctrination of ANY sort does not belong in public schools. If parents want the views of a particular faith system to be taught to their children, they need to send their charges to a private parochial institution.
That being said, NO religion, Islamic or otherwise, should be presented in a biased form in which its doctrines are taught as true. This needs to be applied across the board to ALL faith systems.
What disturbs me about the above examples from texts is that Islam IS being taught as if it is true, but that Christianity and other belief systems are being taught as beliefs. This is the crux of my complaint.
As a teacher, I can attest to the fact that this is indeed nothing new. I can also state that a GOOD teacher MUST go way beyond the text to present an unbiased and accurate picture of the entire religious and secular enterprise behind world cultures.
Teaching one religion as "true" while another religion as just another opinion is wrong.
Allah Snackbar,
"Wellington admits that this event wasn't exactly a shining moment in America... is he a politically correct leftist too?"
Neither of you are PC Leftists: but both of you can't shake residues of the virus that lingers in your system; and I think that's significant, because it shows just how powerful PC is.
I completely with both Dalaran & Hesperado.
Forever asking for apologies & apologies , forever wallowing in past alleged injustices. This victim ploy is so familiar. You don't need a genius to figure it out. This is the typical Indians' way of extracting jizya.
If they are THAT unhappy why not LEAVE for good ? I am telling you Love / Gratitude / Solidarity/ Allegiance / Trustworthiness / Honesty like MERCY is a quality that is not " strained ".
Most Indians are so incorrigibly divided along several fault lines caste , language , parochialism , religion , sub caste , sub sub caste and so forth. And they lie in SPADES to cover up for one another when pitted against the Whites.
In work place , in colleges , Universities all these manifest silently virulently which the normal , sane , guileless , amiable Whites can never fathom or make sense of. Come on , why should it be their mission to fathom & comprehend convoluted good for nothing cobwebs?
In a particular research project my child faced several incapacitating hurdles , glitches wantonly engineered by many including Sri Lankans as Srilankans abhor Tamilians. Our mother tongue is Tamil.
The result being quality & standards among the North American Institutions spanning all Institutions become thirld world like. No White can murmur a single syllable of disapproval or irritation as these Indians would at once pounce on you calling you *rednecks , Bible Belt* blah blah. And they are all so uber affluent. So hire lawyers to protest.
I myself saw Indians ( south asians including bangladeshis , pakistanis ) are the ones breaking rules. Will smoke surreptitiously where forbidden setting whole apartments on fire belonging to Univeristy. Talk in loudest decibels , play songs in loudest decibels.
And why do they celebrate Independence Day sticking Nehru & Gandhi photos everywhere. If so stay put in India.
In a particular programme I heard practically all of them blaming Canada for its winter & snow. On stage. and that the WHITES only ruined our native culture , civilization yada yada. There both indians , hindus , indian muslims , indian converted christians , pakistanis , bangladeshis , indian bengalis ALL of them band together maligning badmouthing America . Canada , Australia.
I would have tossed them all into either Pacific or Atlantic with no apologies or notice given. This world would be a better place sans such putrefying parasites & vermins. They are so clannish , INCAPABLE of integrating & making any significant contribution worthwhile.
Sorry , it should read I completely agree with both Dalaran & Hesperado.
Don't EVER get swayed , swept off your feet with the festivals & festivals of Indians. It is all overfeigned bonhomie & eating orgies. There is nothing truly spiritual about mostest indians. They are all lecherous gluttons , cheats & liars.
I really admired George Bush when he did not turn up for some diwali celebration in America. I was silently applauding him in my mind. Though hindus worldwide went apoplectic thundering with rage spouting the same well worn tripe about Christian conspiracies Bible belt Rednecks yada yada.
Here in this Gulf country an alleged brahmin neighbour (brahmins are extremely conceited about their caste I know , they are the shrewdestest who would exonerate themselves with quotations and quotations after raping / sodomising / lying / cheating etc. Just because someone is a vegetarian don't fall at his / her feet they are all consummate LIARS sans empathy , kindness ) bribed the egyptian watchman asking him to bring most of the potted plants the Arab owner kept for green ambience. The Arab owner lives elsewhere. Trusting implicitly the egyptian watchmen , bangladeshi cleaners etc.
Indians BRIBE & BRIBE CHEAT LIE unabashedly , unflinchingly in tandem with doing lots of prayers , chanting of hymns & festivalssing. They think donating to some charities like the crook Art of Living , Nithyanandas etc automatically ensures their protection from God .
That indian neighbour is so unctuously religious always exchanging betel leaves , turmeric roots , cheap rotting banana , jasmine flowers all in the name of God. And brags to all she is very environment friendly growing so many potted plants. Her maid plucks saplings , uproots fledgeling plants from the Park nearby repotting them all in the stolen pots in her house. Most indians are like this only. I know. Within India , abroad , Pluto , intergalactical spaces included. Both micro & macro levels all indians are like this only.
My Godforsaken criminal faux husband working in Gulf has salted away his money. Splurging on himself very lavishly.
When in Frankfurt airport he tipped a cheapest amount of a coin not even one dollar at a restaurant called Goethe to the very pleasant WHITE Waitress. When I expressed my shock at his despicably mean conduct , he censured me telling:-
" I know everything. I am the CFO..you keep quiet..The Whites are all rich made money by invading india blahblah...so this single coin itself is more than she deserves ".
Not just this scum called husband those toxic scum called brothers , uncles etc etc permanaent citizens of Canada , America , Australia ALSO are the SAME. They AAAAAALways say the Whites occupied yada yada ...so don't tip. They splurge money on building new opulent temples , expensive clothes for themselves , buying lot of property from Toronto , Calgary to California , New Jersey everywhere. Useless indian movies DVDs & watch & watch non stop patting themselves self congratulatorily :-
" we ONLY are all the great inheritors of great Vedic civilization , so HHhUMMMBBBLLE , UNASSUMING , hiiiggghhhly qualified...computer technologists , IIT , MRCP FRCP AB , our indian women are the mostest beautifullestest mostest talented , accomplished , angelic " yada yada.
I get your point, Robert.
But, isn't it ironic that in the Protestant version of the Bible I grew up with, the only reference to Chanukah was in John 10:22? (we did not recognize the books of the Maccabbees as a canonical part of the Old Testament).
Sorry to hear of your domestic problems. Could it be, though, that your husband and male in-laws feel a bit insecure around us Westerners, and try to cover it by a bit of bluster?
Crows, I would suspect your lucidity about the disease in your own culture is fairly rare? Ironically, white Westerners have made self-searching hand-wringing self-condemnation an art and a positive industry -- we white Westerners find ways to be ashamed of our civilization in myriad ways, in our school system, our school curricula, our colleges; our popular books, movies, TV shows, art exhibits; our political rhetoric; our news media. For at least the past 60 years, it has come to saturate our cultural airwaves.
But more importantly, this is not a phenomenon impinging upon The People from some dastardly Elite outside us: its insidious emotional and intellectual tendrils have insinuated themselves into our very hearts and minds: most white Western people really feel ashamed of their past. They can't rid themselves of a gnawing feeling that they stand on, and benefit from, lands and people they have "raped" and "genocided" and enslaved.
And these people I am talking about are not merely "Leftists": if it were only Leftists who feel this way, we would not have the great problem that we have today: it is precisely because these feelings permeate most Westerners on all points of the political and social spectrum, that we now stand blind to the dangers of Muslims. As I said, one can see in Allah Snackbar and Wellington, and many others I have noticed over the years who are otherwise anti-Islam, residues, in varying quantities from person to person, of the deformation of PC MC.
The reason I began by saying this was ironic was because the white West, alone among all civilizations now and throughout all history suffers from a unique paradox:
1) it is by far the best, most beneficent, most decent, most advanced culture now and throughout all history
and yet
2) it is the only culture now and in all history that examines itself so minutely for faults and feels so ashamed of itself.
Now, this is not entirely a paradox: There is a logical symbiosis between #2 and #1: The better, more decent and more advanced a society or an individual is, the more he will be able and willing to admit faults.
But the modern West has passed the line from constructive self-criticism into a deranged pathology of self-condemnation that integrates a fear of criticizing all Others -- much less of condemning the Others when they deserve it.
The supreme irony in this all is that now the West is faced with a systemic danger from one particular Other -- the Mother of all Others, Islam -- whose culture is probably the least self-critical, most xenophobic and misoxenist of all cultures today, and throughout history.
Crows&Cows:
On another note, when I read the travel book by Pierre Loti about his time spent traveling all over India circa 1900, I was struck by something: everywhere he went, he said there were thousands of crows -- sometimes they nested inside temples. (Also bats.)
I hadn't read that last post by Crows&Cows before I wrote my long post above. If everything she recounts is accurate (and I have no reason to think it's not), the "lucidity" I was referring to obviously came at great cost. However, we know from the phenomenon of Stockholm Syndrome that many victims of such familial and social pathologies continue to aid and abet the very same people who continue to victimize and abuse them.
Crows, in your experience, how many Indian women are Stockholm Syndrome types?
Would you agree that the kind of pathologies you describe in non-Muslim Indian society are far worse among Muslims?
Crows, thanks for your responses. On the cleverness of crows, a friend of mine had a pet crow who used to follow my friend on walks. ne day my friend was outside my apartment -- my window on the 3rd floor was open, I was sitting at the kitchen table. The crow flew in, picked up a nice pen that was on the table in its beak, and flew away with it.
Ouch. That's a painful tale that drives me to prayer.
I've run into a lot of Indian people before, and usually liked them (although I admit that some were grating). When in Thailand, my wife and I were visiting the Wat Phra Khao, which was formerly the private chapel of the Thai kings, and admiring the murals. Another visitor, from India, explained to us that they were from the Ramayana andwhat each picture meant; and, although I am very much a fundamentalist Christian, I rather enjoyed the education (later, borrowing the English translation of the book from the library, I learned that I was told pretty much what was going on). Doing a Ph.D., I had a supportive department chair from Gujerat. In the same university town, there was a very Dravidian-looking professor of engineering from Andhra Pradesh who was married to a German-descended American lady and had a bunch of wonderful, highly intelligent kids who all looked like Pakistanis (but all of these people were thoroughly assimilated to American Midwestern ways, including the Evangelical religion they followed). But, obviously, casual acquaintance with the margins of a culture and people who may be moving out of it is not seeing things up close, personal, and from the inside.
An aunt of mine dated an Indian student way back in the pre-WWII days. Would you believe that she swore her whole life that he wore a turban, beard, and bangle so people wouldn't think he was a black American? You'd have thought she would have picked up on the customs of the Sikhs. How's that for lack of curiosity, and interpreting everything through one's own native prism?
As for your earlier comments on the Japanese-descended lady professor who justifies her own skullduggery, pettiness, and hypocrisies by crying "racist" at others, I fear I've known such people of many different cultures and ancestries.
I admit that while I don't see any superiority in many other cultures, I remain a self-critical Westerner. I think we get it because, whether we like it or not, we've been molded by the Old and New Testaments. And, as a Christian, I do not decry this.
Cows&Crows, what's your take on how many people in the West look on India as a very spiritual country?
LOL...I told you so :))
This reminds me of another distraught Crow in Aesop's Fables ( I am sure you must have read it) that hits upon an ingenious plan when it finds its eggs being eaten up by a Serpent dwelling in the same Tree. It steals the Queen's pearl necklace , lets itself be chased by the royal guards dropping it in the hole where the serpent lives. The guards kill the serpent retrieving the pearl necklace.
See you took it in your stride like Newton who told his pet cat named Diamond:-
" Diamond , Diamond , thou little know the damage you have done. "
Kepha ,
Thank you , I need that- Prayers !
Interesting what you have written.
Yes India's Spiritual Heritage is I feel lot more respected , studied in depth & internalised by the Westerners than Indians.
Indians have this smug attitude that just by being born an Indian they inherit it all. Most of them are surface grazers. As Thirukkural says :-
" Know whatever is there to be known well. Then ABIDE by it. Stay ever anchored in It ".
Most Indians fail in that. The Westerners who seek the wisdom enshrined in Upanishads are very earnest seekers. Hence stay focussed. The inherent good qualities in them like sincerity , lack of posturing , being quick on the uptake , dedication , diligence hasten their progress.
Even Swami Vivekananda told " I am not addressing the Americans actually. It is the Indians I am addressing who simply don't care for what I have to say....".
Who else can put it better than Ramana Bhagavan who praised the Westerners for their " Committment & Sincerity ".
