Germany: Merkel speaks at event honoring Motoonist Kurt Westergaard

m6.jpeg

Predictably, "Aiman Mazyek of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany said in a statement: 'Merkel is honoring the cartoonist who in our view trampled on our Prophet and trampled on all Muslims'."

Are your prophet and religion really so fragile that one man's drawing can "trample" them? No, the real issue is a wounded sense of entitlement to be above criticism, ridicule, and satire, all of which are non-negotiable in the Western tradition of free speech.

"Merkel to honor Mohammed cartoonist at press award," by Stephen Brown and Knut Engelmann for Reuters, September 8 (thanks to JG):

(Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel risked angering Muslims by speaking at an awards ceremony on Wednesday for a Dane whose cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed provoked sometimes violent protests by Muslims five years ago.
The 75-year-old cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, whose drawings of Mohammed that offended Muslims worldwide first appeared in Danish paper Jyllands-Posten in 2005, was due to receive a prize Wednesday evening at a conference on freedom of the press.
At a time of fierce debate in Germany over disparaging remarks about Muslim immigrants made by a central bank member, some Muslims criticized the center-right chancellor and the media said she was taking a risk by honoring a man whom many Muslims believe insulted their faith.
Aiman Mazyek of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany said in a statement: "Merkel is honoring the cartoonist who in our view trampled on our Prophet and trampled on all Muslims."
"By having her photo taken next to Kurt Westergaard, Merkel is taking a huge risk," wrote the conservative daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung before the ceremony.
"It will probably be the most explosive appointment of her chancellorship so far."
The mass-circulation Bild, which has voiced admiration for Bundesbank member Thilo Sarrazin for depicting Turkish and Arab immigrants as welfare spongers who fail to integrate, praised Westergaard and said Merkel's presence showed Germany "does not back down in the face of threats from Islamist fanatics."
Organizers of the M100 Media Prize to be awarded at Potsdam near Berlin said the cartoons had "triggered an international controversy about freedom of speech and sparked worldwide, partly violent demonstrations of Muslims who felt insulted."
Most Muslims consider any depiction of the founder of Islam to be offensive, and the Danish cartoons portrayed Mohammed with a turban shaped like a bomb. At least 50 people died in ensuing riots by enraged Muslims in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Westergaard stood by his work "invoking the right to freedom of speech," said the M100 prize committee, praising the Dane's "courage to stand by these democratic values and defend them, notwithstanding threats of violence and death."
The Organizers issued a statement from Merkel saying that, at a time when Germany is marking 20 years of unity after the fall of East Germany's communist regime, her country was "still conscious of what the lack of freedom implies."
Conservatives in Berlin's city assembly threw out a member for inviting Dutch anti-immigrant politician Geert Wilders to speak next month.

"Anti-immigrant.": A narrow misrepresentation of Wilders' actual concerns about the transformation of Dutch society, and European societies in general.

But Wilders said he would "of course" still speak in the German capital despite the action taken by Merkel's Christian Democrats against councilor Rene Stadtkewitz, telling Reuters in an email he had "respect for Rene Stadtkewitz!"

"Most Muslims consider any depiction of the founder of Islam to be offensive...."

Depictions of Mohammed are blasphemous and prohibited only when and where that suits the purposes of Islamic leaders. During the Danish cartoons flap, I remember seeing a photo of a protester in Iran standing in front of a poster displaying a larger-than-life image of Mohammed. I believe the poster was advertising a movie about Mohammed. He was shown as a handsome, stalwart fellow, with a faraway look in his eyes, highlights (not exactly a halo) around his head, and a copy of the Koran in his hand. Somehow that image of Mo was acceptable.

"Most Muslims consider any depiction of the founder of Islam to be offensive..."

"Most" meaning more than 95%.

Muslims are offended at pictures of the prophet.

Yet, Islamic sources - the Qu'ran, Hadith and Sunnah - clearly show the prophet was a warmonger and hater of non-Muslims who killed, raped and pillaged the lands of Arabia in the 7th century.

And most Muslims don't find this offensive.

Muslims will never get their priorities straight until reason destroys the crumbling house of cards that is Islam.

Forgot to add: good for Angela! She should ask the entire parliamentary contingent of the CD's to join her.

Germans and Merkel MUST to do something to improve their demographics:

Germany's population is 82 million, and the annual births are 675.000.
Turkey's population is 71 million, and the annual births are 1.272.000.

Germany has 843.000 deaths.
Turkey has 454.000 deaths.

Each year Germany's deficit is minus - 168.000 people, and Turkish surplus is plus + 818.000 people (about 2.000 per day).

In 20 years Germany will have a population of about 70 million, and Turkey will have 90 million. Merkel need's to do something about worsening German demographics. Who has the people, owns the land.

"By having her photo taken next to Kurt Westergaard, Merkel is taking a huge risk," wrote the conservative daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung before the ceremony.
.................

"Taking a huge risk"? Does Aiman Mazyek mean Merkel is taking a "huge" political or public relations risk, or is he just threatening her? After all, a pious Muslim tried to *axe murder* Westergaard and his little granddaughter not long ago.

Kurt Westergaard is my hero, and I am greatly heartened to see Merkel honoring him.

Here is my own tribute to the brave man, from my "Heroes Against Jihad" series:

We must be very careful not to imply that Muslims are violent...or they will get angry and start killing people!

I'm very impressed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Germans should be proud that they honor those who should be honored in spite of "risks". Maybe Islam won't take over Germany after all - Muslims must be annoyed at such infidel backbone.

If only the infidel Germans would start making infidel babies at a decent rate.

Good for Merkel. Slowly, some Western politicians are "getting" it about Islam. If only two truths respecting Islam are kept in mind and fully understood, the rest will follow as a matter of course. These two truths are the following: 1) the term "radical Islam" is redundant and 2) it should not be Prophet Mohammed but Pedophile Mohammed.

Know why these two assertions are completely valid and everything else will start to fall into place. Don't know the truth of these and one will remain as ignorant of Islam as the current New York City mayor or those in charge in Hartford, Connecticut. Knowledge is power when treating with wickedness and its absence is at best foolish and at worst deadly.

For a really brainless bit of moral equivalence, here is a crude reworking of Westergaard's famous cartoon featuring Sarah Palin, who's opposition to the triumphalist Ground Zero mosque supposedly constitutes the same sort of threat of violence as that of the maddened followers of the "Prophet" Muhammed.

You don't necessarily have to be a big fan of Sarah Palin to find this ludicrous:

What a shock! Anti-dhimmitude at the highest level of a Western government. And it's no coincidence folks that her party is "Center-Right".

Hey amigo, in case you missed it, here's my latest song...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4sj_3KT5HE

I'll be posting a new one in a couple of weeks called 'Ode to the Odious'...all about our wonderful Left-wing Professors sucking the life out of higher education.

... cartoons had "triggered an international controversy about freedom of speech and sparked worldwide, partly violent demonstrations of Muslims who felt insulted."

So what? The Miss World contest in Lagos sparked mass religious protest riots ending in 12 deaths (death by trampling, I believe).

Moslems are always ready to off about something, on a slow day anything. A much aggrieved lot they are. At least this preacher down in Gainesville reperesents an Infidel who's actually getting something out the latest Moslem religious riots -- if he isn't killed first.

Brava, Angela! Brava! Brava!

That's beautiful, graven! VERY well done. I always wished I had that kind of artistic talent, but unfortunately, the moonbat brother got it instead.

I can't even draw a recognizable stick-figure. :(

A deep thank you for that link, Cornelius. I more than "enjoyed" your song. I relished it. It was replete with insight and talentedly done. I can only hope that David Horowitz, a great American who has done a magnificent 180 degrees turn, comes across it (have you sent it to him?). Thank you, my dear friend, whom I have never met and yet whom I nonetheless count as a close buddy (would be great to have numerous beers with you, preferably with a fine pork shoulder cooked just right and with all the trimmings).

And respecting "Left-wing Professors sucking the life out of higher education," I am well into my third decade of teaching at the higher education level and will, as long as my will holds out, do my best in my instruction of students to provide them a different perspective on what passes for received knowledge these days. It's an uphill struggle to be sure, but I still catch myself at times relishing the challenge. Besides, I have a powerful friend on my side---the truth. My best to you and yours as always.

Thank you so much, Eleanor! I'm working on my next entry in the series now.

Can you do one of Ibe, where his big bald head is really shiny, and BIG, and there are bees flying around him? Really, REALLY ANGRY bees? LOL!

Merkel says violence of Muslim youths is a problem in Germany

Statistics show that Muslim youths in Germany are more likely to commit violent acts than the rest of the country's population, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in an interview with a German newspaper on Sunday.

Thanks man...your praise means a hell of a lot to me. Yes, I sent it to David; he actually featured it on NRB (it's in the archives).

I can only imagine the atmosphere of being a conservative professor in academe. Your Left-wing colleagues must be quite "enamored" with you.

Wellington, check out this video...fast forward to 8:28 at the end...and then follow up with the first couple of minutes of part 6. It is unfucking believable!...and right up your ally.

From the story:

"The cases may rank among the largest Muslim discrimination lawsuits since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, unleashed a backlash against Muslims in the United States, government officials said."
------------------
Ahhhhh, that non-existant, no-evidence-for, post 9/11 Moslem backlash again! Keeps coming back to bite the Islamophobes, bigots, xenophobes and racists, don't it?

(steams)

Hi Cornelius! I've been looking for you lately. That's a very nice song, by the way, David should be proud! Here's something I posted about a week ago, something I did about two years ago and wanted you to hear. It's not really "music," but kinda, sorta:

A year from now, politicians will be honoring Pastor Terry Jones for burning the Koran.

Jones and his tiny church are doing this unbelievably brave deed not out of theological malice toward Muslims (as Muslims do toward Christians, Jews, etc.) since Mohammad was still six centuries away from devising Islam when Christianity was established. Ethno-biologically speaking, Jones will be doing this because he is a MAN'S MAN, standing up to the neighborhood bully, defending the weak, point out the Emperor wears no clothes, showing up the political pussies, and putting a start (along with Spencer, et al) to the beginning of the end of political Islam.

Angela,You are a wonderful leader with great courage for truth ! We need more people like you because we all going through this huge challenge for our suvival and our children ! We must all stand up now against this unfair ideology and the mindset it shapes. Within a few decades we are facing more hard choices when dealing with Islam and Muslims.Kosovo is almost gone for all our Serb Christian brothers and sisters. Now,most of Balkan is about to face the same fate of Kosovo.
Mindanao in Philippine, three provinces in Thailand are almost gone too. There is peaceful demographic conquest going on Arakan, the South-West state of Burma bordering Bangladesh.Tripura,Assam and all neighboring state of India close to Bangladesh are also about to be finished up by Muslim illegal immigrants who sneake in to India as a holy religious duty of transforming non-Muslim lands into Muslim lands. In Cambodia too,Muslims have penetrated into it as a non-violent peaceful Jihad warfare method. In Africa especially in poor lands, they have made great gains ! There is not much time left.It is not a time for political correctness and moral uprightness. It is a time to reflect on what is going on all over the world. We must make correct evaluation and assessment of our current situation.we must demand more reciprocal and fair deal with Muslims ! The time is now,or our children will face a very dark future under Islam when Muslim world reaches three billion !

Great to see this from Merkel. Kurt Westergaard richly deserves this honour.

Eleanor,

It was interesting. No question you have an ear for timing and rhythm. If you still have access to the facilities, I'd pursue it...perhaps with something new like the GZM or even revisiting 9-11 (God knows there was a ton of news commentary you could use).

Anyway, thanks for sharing. I like to think our little community here is intelligent and creative....certainly Graven is a talented artist.

I'm trying to redirect my creative energies to political topics. There is such a need for conservative voices in the broader culture.

"It will probably be the most explosive appointment of her chancellorship so far."

'explosive' - interesting choice of words!

'Merkel is honoring the cartoonist who in our view trampled on our Prophet and trampled on all Muslims'

I have honoured Westergaard by hanging an autographed copy of the Motoon on my office wall.

As imitation is the greatest form of flattery, I would really like to trample on their prophet as well.

Does anyone know where Mahound is buried? Perhaps we could erect a dance floor on his grave!

Yes, she has taken a real risk.

I have always felt instinctively that she had a good character and now I am convinced of it.

Mand ohamhed anssers " death to everyone".......

In law schools all over the Western world, in classes on Human Rights, they should be setting side by side the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with the "Islamic" version, that is the so-called Cairo Declaration, so that students can see clearly how the latter's provisions fatally vitiates the intent and meaning of the former.

And Kurt Westergaard's case should be held up as an exemplar of how to stand up, at very great cost, for freedom of speech.

And those who honor him -- such as Merkel -- and those who refrain from so doing -- such as Obama -- should be noted.

I just love that Moe Foe head drawing by Captain Kirk, leader of the Starship soon to be burgeoning coalition of anti-dhimmi artist Enterprise!

Next years draw Moe-murder-ham-head day should make for big fun.

From the article:

"The Organizers issued a statement from Merkel saying that, at a time when Germany is marking 20 years of unity after the fall of East Germany's communist regime, her country was "still conscious of what the lack of freedom implies." "

BRAVO and godspeed, Chancellor Merkel.

i am puzzled.why was my post deleted?
is it because i mentioned the late rabbi kahane?
is jw becoming pc?

The German press freedom prize for 2011 might have an early candidate.
'Freelance journalist Kosuke Tsuneoka, 41, addressing the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on Tuesday, said he was freed after a five-month hostage ordeal in Afghanistan by sending a 'Tweet' under the noses of his captors. Last Friday Tsuneoka said that one of his captors "came to me with a Nokia N-70 model which was the latest among their mobile phones and asked me how to use it. I thought it was a chance...He called telephone operators to activate the Internet access then in basic Farsi showed his captors how to go online, accessing Al Jazeera's website, he said.
Then I told them there is a thing called 'Twitter'. They asked me to show them what it was, so I sent Twitter messages with the phone in front of them. Because nobody understood English, it was no problem..."i am still alive, but in jail", followed by a second tweet giving his location.
Tsuneoka said he was still unsure why he was released the following day. "I don't think there is any correlation," he said.
He supported a statement by his government that no ransom money was paid.
he said he was held hostage by a military faction called Hizb-i-Islami (Islamic Party), which is allied with the government of President Hamid Karzai."hmmm

I don't have access, at least not right now. That I mixed on a lark at the end of a long session while I still had some energy left, late at night, and it's the only thing of its (political) kind I ever did; it's not a major area of interest for me, I'd rather write satire. Besides, there are other producers/mixers/mashers who are much better. Being a producer for a long time was fun and profitable for me, but greener pastures were calling...

Hope all is well with you and yours!

If Germany needs an "Iron Lady" to counter Islamist incursions, then Chancelor Merkel may be Germany's Lady Thatcher. I applaud her willingness to speak for 'freedom of expression', even if only as a small first step to stop the tide of Sharia expansion in Free-Europe.

the cartoons and the koran burning're both calculated provocative acts.

merkel is wrong to praise one and condemn the other.

both expose the true nature of islam.

Thanks, buddy, for that link. Yep, the intolerance by many left-wing academics is extraordinary. Well, modern liberalism is a substitute religion for a lot of folks and religion at its worst (kinda' like Islam). I'm fortunate that where I teach I've only got a little of what that poor female professor went through, though several years ago some student put a swastika beside my name. Stunning, I thought, here I am a Jeffersonian liberal (which is pretty much the same as a Ronald Reagan conservative) who believes in a free press, a multi-party sytem, freedom of speech, limited government, etc. and I'm being compared to a Nazi and an adherent of an ideology which forbids free speech and so many other things I cherish about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There have been a few other incidents like this over the years but not much. I am, though, the resident conservative and known to be such. Fortunately, most of the faculty I work with are nice people and we gently chide one another from time to time about political matters.

Thanks again for that link. Take care, my friend. And now, back to the fight.

Angela Merkel is presenting an award to Kurt Westergaard. But it is, more than Merkel, Thilo Sarrazin, the former member of the Central Bank fired for his just-published views, in which he accurately described the threat to Germany from its Muslim (Turkish and non-Turkish) population that not only will not, but essentially can not integrate. Sarrazin is a member of the Center-Left party and has described himself not as being against immigration but against Muslim immigration.

In the popular press -- e.g., Dempsey in The New York Times -- he was presented as an antisemite in the first sentence, a strange "antisemite" who would love more Jews to immigrate to Germany because their I.Q.s are "15 points higher" than that of the Muslim immigrants who, whatever their I.Q.s are, he argues, in permanent thrall to an ideology that makes it impossible for more than a handful -- those who jettison Islam -- to become part of the German polity, and who remain sullenly present, incapable of loyalty to that polity as they remain loyal to, and working to change things in the direction of, Islam, and meanwhile, living as much off the benefits offered by a generous welfare state as possible.

Merkel is having her moment now. But she joined others in criticizing, and it is he whose book, and views, are winning the day. And it is the same elsewhere, despite the best efforts of the elites unable to grasp the nature of the threat, or if able, unable to understand how to correctly respond.

In this country we have the same problem of those who run us not grasping the meaning, and menace, of Islam. And if, in the countries of Western Europe, gigantic sums are transferred every year from the non-Muslim taxpayers to the Juslim recipients of every kind of benefit, and the wives, seldomo working, merely are supported on the dole while they breed, in the United States gigantic sums are squandered on foreign undertakings based not on an intelligent recognition that victory, or rather gains (the word "victory" has little place it what is a permanent war of self-defense against the forces of Islam) that can be achieved are not to be achieved, as was tried in Iraq, and is now being tried in Afghanistan, by trying to keep various sects and groups from being at each others' throats, or in bringing "prosperity" by lavishing more and more American aid -- money desperately needed at home -- on the local Muslims, to rent their temporary favor, or to win their friendship when the most that can be achieved is the most fleeting gratitude for the mental substrate is Islam, and Islam incuclates mistrust and hatred of Infidels, not to be undone by anything those Infidels seemingly do, though of course whatever can be obtained from them will be pocketed, and the attempt to inveigle more continued for as long as the game can go on.

Germany is taking the right steps with it's leaders regarding the immigration burden that is caused by these Turks and Muslims. It wouldn't be a surprise to anyone is these migration were not State sponsored by Turkey and other Muslim nations. The relieve themselves from the economical burden that these bums cause in their native countries and at the same time cause an economical burden on the respective nation where they go.It is a win win situation for these Islamic nations, since they, with the same action are slowly conquering nations by the increasing population. The do not integrate under any culture because it is in the interest of the Islamic Theocracy. That's way I sustain that their are not any moderate Muslims , it is just that they have a different assignment with in their strategy.

They all believe in the same cult, because this isn't a religion it is a cult to a sick sexual pedophile who took it upon himself , guide by the dark forces,to combat the true God as presented in the Judeo-Christian religions. This is what awaits us with the rising of the so called 10 nations of Europe. They will rise but only after the have been dominated by the Muslims , which are the real Devil's brigade.

"Germany "does not back down in the face of threats from Islamist fanatics." Oh that we could say the same.
