More than fifty persons were injured in central Gujarat town Borsad after Ganesh immersion procession was attacked in Muslim dominated Nagina Mosque area on Wednesday. Local police fired 13 rounds in air and lobbed more than 20 tear gas shells to control the attack on Ganesh procession.According to police sources, a procession consisting 23 Ganesh murti departed from Gandhi Ganj area at 10.30 in the morning. When the procession reached Nagina mosque, the local police inspector, DySP and some Muslim leaders welcomed it. However when about 11 murtis passed from this place, tha [sic] attack on the procession started. Plenty of stones were pelted continuously on the procession, acid bulb and burning objects were also thrown.
About seven Ganesha Murti were broken, and 30 Hindus were injured. The Hindus started protecting themselves using steel and aluminum utensils, but the stone pelting was so heavy that even metal utensils were broken. Police fired rounds in the air and also lobbed the tear gas shells, but the attack discontinued only when all Hindus left the place to rescue self from an attack. The whole event of attack continued for an hour.

This is a disgusting incident, but as someone of Hindu Gujarati descent, I have to say that from my experience of staying in Gujarat, Muslims are extremely socially, economically and politically marginalized within the state, perhaps more so than most other states within India. Reasons why this is the case are physical proximity to Sindh province in Pakistan, the still lingering effects of the Hindu-Muslim massacres nearly a decade ago, and the political dominance of the BJP (Hindu Nationalist Party).

I consider this a positive. when muslims are empowered they are just as intolerant and violence prone. I know Gujratis are a very close knit group. They don't associate much with non gujratis. This has been my experience with them. This trait perhaps makes them more capable of defending themselves against islamists than other indian groups. This to me is something that I admire in Gujus, as they commonly refer to themselves.
unfortuntly among the higher lifeforms of the planet, snakes and reptiles are the closest resemblance to muslims. I can't associate them with pigs and dogs because they both have some very good traits. Repltiles on other hand are untrainable as pets and they are cold blooded killers. Incidentally this is not the first attack on Hindu during this very Ganesh festival season in Gujarat – other attacks have happened in Maharashtra and Kerala.

I agree that we Gujaratis are a closely knit group plus what makes us stand for ourselves is also the fact that we have been for a major portion ruled by Muslims for a pretty long time and we know how it feels...we do not want the same things happen again.
That is the reason why Gujarat has a rampant history of riots. But we only retaliate when provoked like the incident mentioned in 2001, when a mob of Muslims burnt alive 58 people in a train and carried out several girls and women whom they raped and disposed the bodies on the road for the people to see. Almost the complete state went berserk and the Gujjus retaliated brutally.
The only language the Muslims understand is their own!

In the 'Pact of Omar', the archetype of all the oppressive, discriminatory sets of rules imposed upon non-Muslim minorities within Muslim lands, one of the key provisos is that non-Muslims are not allowed to openly display the symbols of their faith in public.
Here is how a Muslim in India adapted the 'Pact of Omar' (which was originally devised for the suppression of Jews and Christians) to apply to Hindus:
From the "tolerant" Sufi leader Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (1314-1385 CE) book Zakhiratulmaluk -
"1. Muslims ruler shall not allow fresh constructions of Hindu temples and shrines for image worship.
2. No repairs shall be executed to the existing Hindu temples and shrines.

7. They shall not deal in nor eat bacon.

It appears that the Muslims in Borsad attempted to forcibly impose condition #8 - "They shall not exhibit idolatrous images" - upon the Hindus in question. On Indian soil. Within the non-Muslim Indian state. Sheer effrontery.
They got the Hindus within their range by pretending to be tolerant - and then, they attacked. An ambush.

Item 8 in Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani's list of restrictions to be imposed upon Hindus, corresponds roughly to the following items in the original Pact of Omar -
"[we (i.e. the Christians) will refrain from erecting crosses on the outside of our churches
and demonstrating them and our books in public in Muslim fairways and markets.
'We will not sound the bells in our churches, except discretely (sic: 'discreetly'; another translation of this clause reads "We shall use only clappers in our churches very softly")
or raise our voices while reciting our holy books inside our churches [!!!] in the presence of Muslims,
nor raise our voices (with prayer) at our funerals,
or light torches in funeral processions in the fairways of Muslims, or their markets."
The principle involved is one of complete suppression of any visible or audible public symbol of the non-Muslim religion.
