Mission Not Accomplished: Taliban, Sharia making comeback in Afghanistan

"...reconciliation with the Taliban will encourage conservative Islamic clerics and hard-line Islamists, including the moderate elements of the Taliban, to push for the implementation of a harsh justice system that would directly contradict the human-rights guarantees enshrined in the current Afghan Constitution."

Too late. The human rights guarantees enshrined in the current Afghan Constitution are already hollow and subject to Sharia. Just ask Abdul Rahman, the celebrated Afghan convert from Islam to Christianity a few years ago.

Marisol explains in greater depth here.

"Western Withdrawal Date Brings Old Debate On Islamic Law Into Focus," by Abubakar Siddique for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, September 5

Nine years after the toppling of their hard-line regime, the Taliban are making a comeback in rural Afghanistan with their harsh system of justice and strict social controls.

In Qarabagh, a district in Afghanistan's central Ghazni Province, the Taliban have forced the closure of all girl schools and banned sports, music, and dancing. Women are barred from employment and forced to wear the all-encompassing burqa, while men are ordered to cover their heads, too. Public schools for boys were kept open only after dramatically increasing Islamic lessons.

The Taliban push for implementing Shari'a law has sparked a debate about whether the Western withdrawal from Afghanistan -- set to begin in July 2011 -- and Kabul's drive for reconciliation with the Taliban will encourage conservative Islamic clerics and hard-line Islamists, including the moderate elements of the Taliban, to push for the implementation of a harsh justice system that would directly contradict the human-rights guarantees enshrined in the current Afghan Constitution.

Inside Afghanistan, it has rekindled a century-old discussion about the role of Shari'a law in society. The central question now is whether a majority of Afghans, including the Taliban, can agree on a justice system consistent with universal notions of human rights....

Yeah...GREAT times when they are running things, huh?

"Mission Not Accomplished: Taliban, Sharia making comeback in Afghanistan"

It never left...

"The central question now is whether a majority of Afghans, including the Taliban, can agree on a justice system consistent with universal notions of human rights..."

Good Luck with that!

When two sides sit down at the table to hash out their differences, and one side brings guns, swords, bombs, and a bad attitude to the discussion,...

Guess Who Wins!

Peace through superior, sustained, deadly firepower.

An article in TIME talks about how women have become dangerously exposed in the aftermath of Pakistan's floods:

It's disgusting to see how men treat women like animals in that country.

"...reconciliation with the Taliban will encourage conservative Islamic clerics and hard-line Islamists, including the moderate elements of the Taliban, to push for the implementation of a harsh justice system that would directly contradict the human-rights guarantees enshrined in the current Afghan Constitution."
.............

If there really were such a thing as "moderate elements of the Taliban", why would they want to implement "a harsh justice system"?

"Moderate elements of the Taliban" is just the final absurdity that started with "moderate Islam", then made its way to "moderate Islamists".

If Westerners cannot at least agree that the *Taliban*—a regime that forced women into burqas and commandeered Kabul's football stadium to hold mass public executions—is and cannot be "moderate", then we have very little hope of acknowledging Islam for the unredeemable threat that it is.

Boycot Time Mag, They are raceist shills for Jihad.

It doesent even make good toilet paper. (Ask me how I know:)

Well the Rumsfeld, Cheney & Franks policy in Afghanistan was v. flawed. "Change on the cheap" was the promise...but it can't be done and it ended up v. expensive.

We (the democracies) should have pursued a far more revolutionary approach while we had the chance...enfranchising women, breaking up the "Junker" estates, giving land to the landless, jobs to the jobless.

In short we should have gone in, broken up the existing game and created a different game operating to new rules...
It would not have been perfect but it would have been better than what we have now I believe.

And of course we should have gone on Tehran from Iraq. Not doing so has left us terribly vulnerable.

"The central question now is whether a majority of Afghans, including the Taliban, can agree on a justice system consistent with universal notions of human rights..."

By changing "universal notions of human rights" to conform to Sharia.

Bush was a fool to think you can have a "secualr" democracy where Islam played any part in the society. One can not sever religious Islam from political Islam. We should have just gone into Iraq and Afghanistan, blown them all to smithereens, and walked away. Nation building is a plunder of the victor, i.e. "to the Victor goes the spoils" has been turned on its head.

Another problem I see is narrowly viewing this as two wars, i.e. Afghanistan and Iraq. They are not two wars, but actually one war on two battlefields against a common enemy, i.e. Islam.

The Soviet Union went into Afghanistan and got "creamed" due to the rough terrain, whereaas the United States moved the main battlefield from the ruggued terrain of Afghanistan to the more accomodating landscape (from our point of view) of Iraq. We drew the enemy to us in the battlefields of Iraq. We played on our terms instead of on theirs. Such was a smart move by Bush.

You can't have half-Sharia.

As you don't have a moderate Koran.

Until the Terror is reformed out, the madness must continue.

It's orthodox Islam.

Enemy of Liberty.

"Until the Terror is reformed out, the madness must continue."

Uh dude? The madness aint going away any time soon. As far as I can tell.

it is a sad fact, but as long as the truth is not acknowledged, everything is built on a very shaky foundation.
and the truth is that islam is the source of all this evil. one must understand islam for what it really is. one cannot and should not negotiate in any way shape or form with these 7th century psychopaths that have the audacity to cry to the west for help when allah does not... and simultaneously, call for the destruction of the west.
ok. now the west is in a somewhat weaker position that can still be remedied IF THERE IS A RESOLVE!
the u.s.a. is temporarily headed by the greatest lying imposter, in its history. but this will change in november when the dhimmicrats are kicked out and immediate procedures for impeachment can begin. following that declaring ALL that was signed by hussein to be null and void, declare all mosques as enemy centers, deport all inciting immams to gitmo and be ready to reinstate order with an iron fist. the muslime population that will be ready to proove that they are peaceful and they have no intention to impose anything on their generous host country, will be left alone to go about their busines (oh, by the way, this bullshit of religious accomodation will stop of course. no more free pass!). all others will go to the public works department where they'll be allowed to redeem themselves while being useful to society...
massive deportations back to the society they crave so much should help make the point that a new era has begun!
if this silly rule of zero tolerance is applied to schools where a student is expellled for having a knife and fork in his lunch bag, surely there could and SHOULD be a zero tolerance law for muslimes caught with the slightest incriminating evidence...
let america once again be the champion for freedom where people are truly free to live and let live as one sees fit and without this bullshit fear of offending some friggin barbarian that have a pedophile mass murderer as their ideal! the rest of the western world will open their eyes and follow suit.
which brings me back to the talliban business.
excuse me guys, but hypocrisy is extremely annoying.
what da f*** did the whole world do during the holocaust? answer: zippydido!
what did the world do to stop the armenian genocide? same answer
what about darfour?
i could sit here and type more examples but i think you get the point.
so obviously, NOTHING was done when something could have been done.
i think it is imperative to realize that:
1. you cannot bring a 7th century mentality into the 21st just by going in and forcing elections. helloooo!!!? anybody home???
2. when fighting the evil that islam is, you cannot go with half assed measures but shock and awe campaign!
there will unfortunately be 'collateral dammage' but it is 'us vs. them'!
3. let them live in whichever way they want in their country. it is their country and they can do whatever the hell they want!
do not missunderstand! i despise these hypocritical murderers that prey on the weak, stone their women, beat them (courtesy of their kkkuran's teachings) just as much as any decent person would.
but back to my questions if nothing was done for the armenians, for the jews, for the people of darfour, what's with this hypocritical piety that the west should sacrifice its young in an asymetrical war???
saint francis of assisi said it well:
"god grant me the courage to change the things i can, the serenity to accept the things i can not AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

It may all end in one big circle jerk
but the war in Iraq and Afghanistan may
just the prelude to a much larger and
longer war of unspeakable horror. With
Islamic forces seeing the way leftists
have weakened the West and the strength
of it's men, seeing also their colonists
making headway and growing Muslim presence
they have no reason to cease and decist.

There are millions of Muslims arming up for
the great struggle while in America we are
listening to POTUS whimp and leftist Democrats
who are enablers of all of our problems.
You will all have a choice, buy a prayer rug
or buy a weapon and be ready for a world of
war that is sucking you in. In America we see
people carrying Big Bird and Barney but in
Muslim lands all of the men bear weapons
of war, do you wonder why?...........William

you've got that right brother!

I have been reading this site for a month now and all I can say is.

Sadly there is no such thing as a slow newsday when it comes to islamic miltants.

Followed the link to the Time magazine article on religious minorities (the article focuses only on muslim minorities) not getting aid in Pakistan.

Here is an interesting comment:

"suhail kausar

This is an honest and sincere efforts on the part of the author to expose the hate game going on in Pakistan being promoted by extremists with encouragement of the authorities, unfortunately using the name of Islam which was founded by 'Rehmatullil Alameen' (the title bestowed by God onto the Prophet Muhammad (saw). Concerted efforts have to be made to educate the people to understand how the Prophet of Islam preached and practiced promotion of peace and love in the society even at the cost of being victim of violence inflicted upon him and his believers. We have to ponder and distinguish now whether the terrorists taking innocent lives could be the followers of the Prophet who has been called 'The mercy for the entire mankind'. This is the question the sane elements have to ask themselves and then promote the discussion."

That some people can think this way after reading the Quran and Hadith is astounding. They are talking about the same mohammed who is the most Amoral man ever to claim to be a prophet, who instigated violence, mocked the corpses of his victims, condoned rape, incest, and pedophilia, who preached nothing but hatred for jews christians pagans and muslims who would not fight, who said to kill muslims that left the faith.
The same mohammed where one who reads his teaching and sees his example cannot help but feel they have peered into the dark and disturbed mind of Satan himself.

And they say he was a peaceful and loving man. I'd hate to see what one would have to do for this poster to say they were bad.

I could sit on that jury and believe every word of the testimony about her acts, and still feel she did nothing wrong compared to his physical violence toward her in a culturally condoned dominance.
http://hereticscrusade.com

Wonderful news, if it holds up in clinical trials.

This whole business of jihad is not suitable for humour - for me , it's too serious .
but ...........
'The central question now is whether a majority of Afghans, including the Taliban, can agree on a justice system consistent with universal notions of human rights'

That's funny !

@CaoMoo
re Muhammed. . .''cannot help but feel they have peered into the dark and disturbed mind of Satan himself.''
Spot On CaoMoo. Eloquently put. Welcome to Jihadwatch and here's looking forward to your future posts.

There is no point in blaming Afghans. We have Obama,Hillary,Holder,Pentagon, FBI all asserting in no uncertain terms that Jihad is a legitimate part of Islamci religion and thus not to be confused with the practices of Osama,Zawhiri,Tantawi,Muslim Brotherhood,Mullah Omar, S=Bin Baz of Mecca,Tariq Ramdam,Qatada etc etc. How US administration has a better handle on Islam than aforementioned scholars and luminaries of islam like Bukhari, Muslim,Hnabali, Shafi, the Sahabas, IShaq, ISham and company is a mystery.

However when leaders are this blind than it is no surprise that Afghans have regressed back to Sharia and Islamic government.

Sharia cannot be humane as it's fundamental principle is not any recognition of humanity but sole recognition of religion. All of the laws of sharia than follow once religion is determined. How naive people assume that sharia will ever be consistent with human rights is beyond me.

Afghans want to live like Arabs of 10th Century it is there choice, thus we should not waste our blood and treasure any more.

The world has been cursed by Islam. Islam was stashed away in a secret compartment of Pandora's Box. But now it's out, and the only way to deal with it is education and, where necessary, withering firepower.

Pass the ammo!

"The central question now is whether a majority of Afghans, including the Taliban, can agree on a justice system consistent with universal notions of human rights...."

Because of COURSE, the universal notions of human rights is just SO laudable, and if them darned Muslims would only believe, think, and act like the rest of us...

Gimme a break Bobby! There will ALWAYS be a group of people who prefer Shari'ah to secular law, from now til the end. Accept it, get over it, get a real job!!!

Allah Bless America!!!

Of course 'The Mission' is not accomplished, the chances of success were always negligible. The Afghans will see this latest wave of invaders leave,as they always do,and return to their long Islamic torpor. How the US government assumed that democracy could be forced on a population of medieval villagers seems beyond rational explanation.
The result of this hubris-more vengeful victims of inept US foreign policy - congratulations.

A big big Israeli type fence or wall down the middle of Afghanistan. Taliban and its Sharia law supporters to the left; humans to the right.
Now isn't that easy!

ISRAEL FOUND CURE FOR AIDS

This is indeed very big and happy news for human male homosexuals, NBA basketball players, and Moslem Males.

Free. Free at last. Thank God almighty they are free at last:

I saw the prophet (pbuh) sucking on the tongue or the lips of Al-Hassan son of Ali , may the prayers of Allah be upon him. For no tongue or lips that the Prophet sucked on will be tormented by hell fire.

But surely this great discovery was made by Palestinian Moslem researchers forced to work for low wages in Jewish owned labs.

Prez Barack Hussein needs to announce this, this triumph of Islamic Science, and not let the Jews steal thunder from these young Moslem researchers.

Gimme a break Bobby! There will ALWAYS be a group of people who prefer Shari'ah to secular law,

Who's Bobby?

There are always people who will jump off tall buildings,
but anyone with one iota of common sense refuses to join them...

Islam without sharia is not Islam...Islam with sharia is
raw oppression...Fear of the law is stronger than the fear of Allah...Allah punishes in the future, sharia punishes in the present, real time...People who prefer to live under oppression and the constant fear of punishment, have a few screws loose...

What a terrible waste thie entire Afghankistan debacle has been.

When will we realize, we cannot help people who don't want to be helped. Let them live the way they choose in their islamic hellhole.

The US went to Afghan to capture or kill Osama...Then they launched into the failed policy of nation rebuilding American style...Insistence of bringing freedom and democracy to people who don't want it, has cost the US men and treasure way beyond what it is worth...And instead of learning, and altering course, the US continues the mistake...Afghanistan because of Islam is broken, and 'all the Kings horses and all the Kings men', can't put Afghanistan back together again...

You wrote:-

And there will ALWAYS be a growing group who will defend the rights we have fought world wars to gain.

By the way, you haven't answered the question I left for you!

"Which is more likely -- that a man should be used as a transmitter by God to deliver some already existing revelations, or that he should utter some already existing revelations and believe himself to be, or claim to be, ordered by God to do so?"

David Hume 1711 - 1776

On BBC I have watched many programmes where these Iraqis , Afghanis , in short all of them from various parts of the world have been engaged in discussions about Democracy human rights etc.

I would go arrrgghh invariably always. Their mindset , attitudes are SSSO different from the enlightened West.I could never make sense of what they WANT. They are so RESTLESS EDGY for no reason at all. No wonder they are never able to fit in America , Europe and end up rocking back & forth baying for Infidels.

I am sure America would have understood this much earlier.

The twain shall NEVER meet. Clash of Civilizations is the most accurate diagnosis.

Jews find solutions to problems....Muslims just create problems...

Sandalwood paste being inimical to them they meet with a miserable end BUT unfortunately leaving the precious sandalwood paste unusable & poisonous.

Maybe that's why some incense gives me a headache... :)

OT

I used to visit a store in San Francisco that sold supplies for magical rituals and the like...It was an interesting place to look at...One of their specialties was manufacturing various types of high class incense to go with various types of rituals, sometimes meditation...For instance there was one type called 'White light Lightning'...This was reserved only for those who meditated on the 'higher levels'...If the witch (yes witch) behind the counter didn't think you qualified to buy that or other types, she would not sell them to you...I guess she was a mind reader or something...

Dank you moron, the person you quoted was Abubakar Siddique.

RS said "The human rights guarantees enshrined in the current Afghan Constitution are already hollow and subject to Sharia." that's essentially what you chimed in with..

"get a real job!!!" - dude it's Labour Day, why not for the rest of the day, if you can, try not to be the biggest dumbass on this site.

The official position taken by two presidents, Dubya & Barack Hussein, is to endorse Sharia, and to even expend American treasure and lives to defend it.

*** Vol 2 Bk 24 Nbr 555 ***

But, like the healthcare bill, maybe nobody has actually read the constitutions of these two hell-hole countries in which we've invested so much.

And this after nine years? How many dead and wounded American soldiers and how many American taxpayer dollars have and continue to be squandered in a war that is Obama's cause celeb and Bush's nightmare. Nine years or twenty years, if and when the powers that be decide to declare victory and order our troops to cut and run these Islamic fundamentalists will come out of their caves eager to satisfy all their sadistic cravings for torture, rape, stonings, amputations and murder justified by their beloved "religion" and sanctioned by their depraved concept of God. And our enlightened, brilliant leadership in D.C. will still be wondering, "where the hell is Osama Bin Laden?" That is if D.C. still exists.

"Obama's cause celeb...where the hell is Osama Bin Laden?"

Did Obama really think he was going to get Osama? His Afghan war strategy seems to suggest yes. From the start his focus seems to have been - get Bin Laden. But getting Bin Laden hasn't worked so far. Hillary recently said that somebody in the Pakistan government has to know something. Who's really protecting Bin Laden?

while Bin Laden should be brought to Justice, he an indivisual. we need to deafeat the Idealogy.

As someone who ran away from islam, how do you propose we defeat that "Idealogy"?

Why yes—who wouldn't prefer the specter of small girls sold to perverted old men, the discounting of the testimony of women, minorities, and Infidels, petty thieves getting their limbs hacked off, and little 13-year-old rape victims stoned to death by howling mobs?

Well, except for civilized human beings, of course. But then, the repulsive "Dank" has never given any inkling that he wishes to belong to such a group.

Finally, he wishes the baleful "blessings" of his savage deity on this great nation. He can keep his curses to himself.

Also to Dank, don't worry about answering Buraq, I tried to engage him many times but he threw a tantrum and started calling me names, he's just a troll.

wilders wil get what he deserve's Booooom

When will we learn to see global jihadist strategy? Global jihadists want to keep our troops in Afghanistan indefinitely so they can be free to kill them off/weaken them/distract our resources from the jihad by the sword in oil-rich countries in Africa, which are being plundered. The Middle East oil boon, which was primarily used to fund and plan the global jihad is running out of oil (in the Middle East that is). No doubt the global jihad leaders expected to be much more ingrained in the world governance by now. They have in effect taken over the African Union and "partnered" with China and Russia (for now). This does not bode well for the U.S. unless we pull together our resources and become a Sharia-free zone and protect our citizens from jihad, cultural or otherwise.
