Obama praises Turkey as it steps toward Sharia

In secular Turkey, the military has always been the foremost defender of secularism. It has carried out coups in the past against regimes that tried to weaken Kemalist secularism and impose Sharia. Now Erdogan is moving to make that impossible, and Barack Obama is pleased.

More on this story. "Obama welcomes Erdogan's referendum victory," from the World Tribune, September 15 (thanks to Rosanne):

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has praised Turkey for revising its secular constitution.

Obama telephoned Prime Minister Recep Erdogan during the referendum that called for the revision of Turkey's constitution on Sept. 12. About 58 percent of voters supported Erdogan's drive to reform the constitution to reduce the power of the military and increase the influence of the prime minister's pro-Islamic Justice and Development Party.

"The president also acknowledged the vibrancy of Turkey's democracy as reflected in the turnout for the referendum that took place across Turkey today," a White House statement said on Sept. 12.

Officials said Obama regards Erdogan as one of the president's leading allies in the Islamic world. They said the administration viewed the referendum as a reaffirmation of Turkish democracy and government control of the military.

On Sept. 14, the British daily Daily Telegraph reported that Iran has agreed to donate up to $25 million to Erdogan's Justice and Development Party. The newspaper said Iran, in negotiations with Erdogan himself, has pledged to donate $12 million to the ruling Turkish party, with an additional $13 million to be relayed later in 2010. Turkey has denied the report....

In contrast, the administration has supported Erdogan's drive to eliminate the military's influence on the Turkish government as well as civilian life. Officials said the prime minister's effort was serving as a model for Islamic democracy.

"We hope that through these reforms, it will further enhance Turkey's democratic processes and human rights protection," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said. "This was a choice for the Turkish people, and there was a very strong, decisive vote to move towards greater civilian oversight of these democratic institutions."

How does Buraq Hussein square Recep the Arab Erdoclown being one of America's most important "allies" with his support for Hamas and Hezbollah?

Oh, wait a minute, I get it... Buraq probably supports those terrorists too.

Fethullah Gulen, PM Erdogen, the OIC, and Iranian agents-of-influence all pull witless Barack Obama's--and Hillary Clintons--strings.

looks like every instinct this guy has is wrong. I guess thats just a sign of where he comes from, certainly not a Judeo-Christian background.

I don't think Obama is for either islam or judaism. as you can see, most of his Cabinet and Senior Advisors are American Jews or have dual citizenship, U.S.-Israeli.

The creature is NOT loyal to anybody. He's loyal to Elizard-beth II (successor to Elizarbeth I- who hung, drew and quartered any "peasant" rebels- so much for the great queen). Obama bows to the Emperor of Japan, the pope in rome, and the king of arabia, as you can see by the photos of him bowing to those rulers. And he caters to Mexicothe Certainly NOT to the U.S. The creature's loyalty is NOT to the Bill of Rights, the U.S. Constitition or to WE, The People.

Obamarama is here to spread dissent and division among us. He's here to impliment tyrannical laws, and then, drop out....after one term.

The White House has ABSOLUTELY no clue about Islam and is intentionally/unintentionally working against the welfare, interests and betterment of America and the free world.

They MUST be voted out at the next election. Any less won't do.

"Obama praises Turkey as it steps toward Sharia"

No pardon will help that bird, at Thanksgiving or afterward...

Turkey is not moving toward Sharia. You don't know about Turkish society and how Erdogan remains in power. His voters are not only conservatives. By the way, worry more about your other ally: Saudi Arabia. Don't blame only Obama, Bush was holding hands with Saudi King after months from 9/11. Your country pays hundreds billions of dollar to Saudi Arabia every year. You support Wahabbism, source of almost all Islamic terrorism.

You're right about that RINO Bush, but he was better than that liar Gore or the tax cheat Kerry...

Turkey is moving toward Sharia.. You are in denial on that one...

"We support Wahabbism...."

Don't think so mate.

Besides, Islam is the source of all Islamic terrorism. It isn't confined to any particular sect.

To quote Andrew Bostom: "...the twin institutionalized scourges of Islam at the crux of the violent, nearly 1,400-year relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims — i.e., jihad and dhimmitude — were already well-elaborated by the 8th century, 1,000 years before Wahhabism arose in the 18th century."

We're not making up the concerns about secularism. If you click on the link to prior coverage (the story linked, and the one it links back to), Turks themselves express the same concerns.

Maybe Obama is thinking about his post-POTUS future. Think of the assistance he could provide in reviving the Caliphate in the event Turkey is rebuffed by the E.U.

Does our Dear Leader have to be on the wrong side of every issue?

Obama praises Turkey as it steps toward Sharia
................

Had this been former president George W. Bush, I would just assume he superficially thought Turkey was "moving toward democracy", and look no deeper.

This *might* be the situation with Barack Obama, but I'm not sure in his case that it is so innocent. Here are some of Obama's disturbing links with Islam in his father's native Kenya, and his own backing of his Shari'ah-touting cousin, Raila Odinga:

"Kenya, Islam and Barack Hussein Obama"

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/01/obama-islam-and.html

Finding that the leader of the free world is broadly ignorant and frequently intellectually incurious is a terrible handicap—finding that he is actually complicit with evil and the goals of our enemies is *appalling*.

"enhance Turkey's democratic processes and human rights protection". "Islamic democracy". "greater civilian oversight of these democratic institutions".

It stands to reason you do that by limiting the secular powers in a nation.
Sure, it looks good if you prevent state institutions being self-perpetuating - a state within the state - but this is another example of Muslims making use of the democratic rules to advance themselves, in this case sidelining secularism and empowering Islamic rule.
In my country the more irresponsible reporters are even seeing this as pawing the road to EU for Turkey.

What I do know is there will be a new choice to make for the West: which is to be preferred, an old-fashioned dictatorship of one kind or the other but led by a man you can do deals with, or shall it be an Islamic state that will hate you for certain and support any sort of Jihad? In any Muslim country the deciding factor will always be Islam and the responsible Western politicians should know by now that Islamism only gains more and more influence: the democratization disasters of the Muslim world are too obvious to be called by any other name, and given a chance the electorate tend to vote in Islamists. Not to mention those who haven't progressed an inch beyond fawning servility to royalty.

But our politicians seem to think that accommodating Islam is just fine. I fail to see why. Could it be they haven't bothered to acquaint themselves with the Quran, and are happy with what is told them by resident Muslims? Most political parties have one or several tame and integrated Muslims now, and their not infrequent "faux pas" tend to be overlooked.

Folks, here's something very hopeful. It's a Washington Times article from Tuesday. An excerpt:

A panel of national security experts who worked under Republican and Democratic presidents is urging the Obama administration to abandon its stance that Islam is not linked to terrorism, arguing that radical Muslims are using Islamic law to subvert the United States.

The report is 150 pages or so, and included on the high-powered team (listed below) who wrote it are a number of people whom Jihad Watchers will recognize as friends, including Andrew McCarthy (lead prosecutor in the first WTC attacks) and Diana West, author and columnist.

Perhaps the current American administration will resist being influenced by this high-powered report, but the influence, as time goes by, will, to some extent, be irresistable, and could well become part of the core of the next administration's approach to national security. This is very good news.

The 150 page report, called Sharia: The Threat to America, An Exercise in Competitive Analysis, Report of Team 'B' II, is free to read online, and includes a ten-page executive summary, which I read and found excellent. The authors also explain the long title. It's brilliantly based on the title of another report that marked a sea change in strategy toward the Soviet Union thirty years ago.

If you are tired of the "Religion of Peace" propaganda coming out of Washington for the last ten years, this report heralds a sea change to something realistic.

Thanks for the link, traeh. Obama will ignore this report, of course, but it lays important groundwork for his successor.

Does it never concern Obama that he tends to agree with nations like Iran? Yesterday I was reading an article and he agreed with someone described as an extremst ( sorry I've read so much in recent days I can't remember which),

Honestly, I would have to wonder what was wrong with me if I found that I agreed with those who seek to destroy as often as he does. Zero introspection on his part.

Turkey is about to go under and become an extreme enemy of Israel, as well as hostile to the West and America. Erdogan is using "taqiya" to portray himself as a "moderate Muslim." An excellent article was published yesterday on the history of Erdogan and where Turkey is headed. The consequences for us cannot be ignored:

http://www.hudson-ny.org/1537/turkey-islamism-consequences

very interesting piece that one. It will be ignored of course, as irresponsible war mongering.

"WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has praised Turkey for revising its secular constitution."

Uhh... Am I the only one who sees the irony in that statement?

I wonder if Barack Obama *spits* would praise Washington for changing OUR not so secular constitution.

What an assracket.

Iran has built in deniability because it funnels a lot of tax money to super-rich charities.

This guy is on the wrong side of everything. what's next?

This just in Barak Obama says Asbestos makes good homes it's fire proof. That and arsenic is delicious. He is cramming a bill through congress to make both materials mandatory in school construction and lunches and asking all americans to follow suit.

I surprised he didn't buy a pitbull for the white house dog. Remember kids the white foam means he loves you.

Really...

sarcasm obviously but the point is valid

A sign or Roberts hypocrisy, double standards and folly of his arguments and why you people cannot think for yourself.

"In secular Turkey, the military has always been the foremost defender of secularism. It has carried out coups in the past against regimes that tried to weaken Kemalist secularism and impose Sharia. Now Erdogan is moving to make that impossible, and Barack Obama is pleased".— Robert

Does a military carrying out a coup against a democratically elected government not go against his front of "FREEDOM" and "SELF DETERMINATION" Lol, If an Islamic leaning Army instigated a coup against a democratically elected government would he praise or condemn it? Surely Karmelism is only appropriate if the MAJORITY want it, and as we can see by the many times they have voted for PRO ISLAMIC governments the people who have tasted both opposites have chosen Islam. Now anyone who genuinely believes in freedom and democracy will see the oppressor in that instance is the army, even if they themselves care little for Islam or religion.

And the main stream media can't believe that 20% of Americans think Obama is a Muslim.

I used to laugh at the "naivete" of those who spoke about "Osama Obama," then I voted for the man. I am no longer laughing.

That remark is an anti-Semitic myth, Allat, though I am not stating that you are anti-Jewish.

Take a look at this list of Obama's cabinet ministers and top advisors. Truely, there is a mere handful of Jews among all his appointees:

http://beforeitsnews.com/story/112/082/Only_8_of_Obamas_Cabinet_Ever_Had_a_Real_Job.html

Let's be cautious about making such remarks as "most of his cabinet members or advisors are Jews." Such remarks are common among those who dislike Jews, but it is not a fact.

Traeh, I saw that yesterday and read most of it. It is awesome! Let's just hope the right people see it, read it, and believe it. One thing I found particularly encouraging was the suggestion that muslims who promote the overthrow of the U.S. government and encourage violence against the American people should be tried for sedition. They should!

Maybe we're hoping for too much but if somebody doesn't wake up soon and name the enemy, the U.S. is headed down the same road as Europe. Obama and his communist minions will ignore it; that Brennan character is unbelievable, an arrogant, ignorant prick who is completely unqualified to advise anyone about islam. Anyway, it makes me feel a little better to know that there are some influential people who know exactly what is going on in this country vis a vis islam and muslims, and they want to do something about it. I hope the report is widely disseminated but we all know the MSM will ignore it.

Obama can't be this stupid.

So he must be actively malicious.

This "reform" weakens the secular Turkish state.

And invites in Islamic fundamentalism by inserting a poisoned pill of Sharia into an otherwise benign bunch of popularly-desired changes.

Usually a poison pill is a way of killing a bill.

But in Turkey they swallowed it thinking that the non-fatal [illusory] changes will be sufficiently good that the country's secular societal death won't trally be that bad, somehow.

Insane.

And Barack is encouraging it.

Hussein indeed.

Susan

if the MSM will not disseminate and/ or draw attention to the report "Sharia: The Threat to America, An Exercise in Competitive Analysis, Report of Team 'B' II", then it is entirely up to those of the citizenry within the West who know of its existence, to spread it far and wide, *themselves*.

It's dead easy to send the appropriate link - with a covering note along the lines of 'hey! look at this!' - to friends and acquaintances and persons of interest.

There is nothing stopping anyone from downloading the whole thing and printing it off and putting it in a nice binder and presenting it, with a suitable covering letter, to any number of 'targets' - such as, for example, one's Mayor, or one's elected representative, or one's local police chief, or the lawyer or local official or policeman or army veteran that one has within one's own circle.

People like myself who reside outside the USA but whose countries have long-standing alliances and friendships with the USA, have to get cracking on ways to get this document into the hands of intelligent people within our own government and army, to let them know the scale and nature of the threat to the USA...for if the USA is infiltrated and subverted by Islam, our own worlds become a LOT darker and scarier.

And non-Americans need to read that document while bearing grimly in mind that the sharia-pushing Muslims are playing exactly the same dirty game here, as they have been and are in the USA.

Sooner rather than later, there will have to be an analogous document entitled 'Sharia: The Threat to Australia', and another entitled ' Sharia, The Threat to Canada', and so on.

This Islamabama seems to be a taqiyya muslim in disguise. Get rid of him as soon as possible. Cant you impeach him? The elections are too far away.

PS Book claims Michelle Obama is living first lady 'hell'

Any truth in that?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11335076

I think Chris Jenson is missing the point of the now soon to be former Turkish secular constitution:
The role of the military was as a balance to maintain and defend secularism. Kemal of course knew very well that Islamism would not go away from day to day, and he did his best to insure national and secular unity by a balancing act that only now is failing by the very secularism he introduced.
Muslims nearly always vote for pro-Islamic political systems anyway, no matter what was before or the alternatives. This was Kemal's attempt to avoid the vicious circle we shall likely see now: that Islamism abolishes secularism.

Beware Christians on this earth ! Now Turkey , the last bastion of liberal Islam in the world , has also gone the "Shariat" way ! People of America your enemy has turned from Red ( i.e. the communists ) to Green ( the Islamists )!Perhaps Nastradamus's prophecy may finally come true and there will be a nuclear ICBM attack from the "land of Muhammed" on to the "New World" ( i.e. U.S.A. ) ! With Saudi coffers financing the "last war" and Pakistan/Iran supplying the nuclear arsenal required by the Islamists it is plausible for Nastradamus's prediction to come true ! It is only a question of time , next 10 years to perhaps 20 !
Unfortunately , USA has been backing both Pakistan and Turkey for the latters' , so called loyalty (oops !) to USA in her war on Communism and has financed liberally both these "inteligent" Islamic countries to be a shield against the Reds. However , in doing so in last 50 years or more , USA has developed a permanent "Green" menace for itself ! Thr Ground Zero mosque is just the beginning of the "Green" menace developing stronger roots for the "Green" menace right into its own back yard ! Perhaps the saying " what you sow , so you get " has come true in the case of USA ! Bravo Barak Hussain Obama !

I'm not sure what your perlocutionary intent is, but it is hardly a knock against America (and the free West generally)to have concluded during the cold war that the Islamic world could be an ally in the fight against godless communism. In fact, the whole enterprise smoked out the Islamic world as unable to embrace the Western values (democracy in the context of universal notions of human rights)being defended against the communist onslaught. The supporters of this cite wouldn't make that mistake again.

Chris, there is nothing hypocritical about what Robert states. American values do not include a concept of democracy as pure majority rule. Rather we are committed to individual freedom, which requires democracy tempered by guarantees of individual rights against the rule of the majority. In Turkey, Attaturk realized that modernization required a more Western concept of freedom, which could only be realized in a secular state. Thus, as a condition to acheiving meaningful freedoms, the secular state needed to be defended against those forces that would deny individuals freedom of belief, inquiry, speech and association = i.e, the forces of Islam. Having the military do this is not unusual - the US armed forces defend the constitution of this country, and in the past have quelled rebellion and help enforce federal court orders.

Hey Kafir. This is realy a good one.am I the only one who was missing it till today? the name Barack probably in its original form was Buraque which is - for those who don't know- the name of the dokey that flew Muhammad to the islamic heaven to meet with Allah.I realy admire you Americans you actualy mannaged to ellect a ja.. ... in the white house.

correction (Barack probably in its original form was Buraque which is - for those who don't know- the name of the dokey that ....)
Sorrey typing error its donkey not dokey

If the Muslims don't get their way on "anything" they will bring you this. Watch this video (graphic) and then tell us that Islam is the "Religion of Peace". They are animals and we should ban all immigration into the United States now. This is the true Islam! If a Muslim will not denounce Hamas as a terrorist organization then it is obvious that they support this below:

Sonsuz, If Erdogan's attacks against the military and the judiciary, his alliances with Syria and Iran, his state sponsorship of terrorism against Israel and Lebanon, if the donation of hundreds of millions of dollars by Ahmadinejad to Erdogan's reelection campaign aren't enough to give you the clue that Erdogan is putting Turkey on a direct path back to the 7th century, then either you are utterly clueless or a willing participant spreading taqiya. Many may not realize that in the referendum virtually all of the votes in favor came not from modern, secular portions of Turkey but from the eastern half of the country which never left the 7th century. My son has a number of Turkish friends and acquaintances. All of them are Muslim and most are women educated here in the West and who are secular in their orientation. After the referendum passed, a number of them told him candidly that their parents were telling them not to come back to Turkey because they believe that soon there will no longer be any place for Westernized, secular females in Ergogan's Turkey. Those in Turkey now are planning to leave Turkey at their earliest opportunity and fear that they will never be able to return to Turkey as free women. As a result of this referendum, Turkey stands to lose its brightest lights and best hope for the future in a massive brain drain to the West. Whether you refuse to see it or not, the picture of Turkey's future is available today in Tehran.

Chris, there is no hypocrisy here. Your exercise in moral equivalency fails because it is naive and fails to take into account that Turkey is not the United States.

In the United States, the electoral process proceeds under the fundamental principle that the government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed. Whoever wins as election in United States assumes the reigns of power with the full understanding that if they lose the next election, they must and will voluntarily relinquish that power. In the United States we are used to peaceful transitions of power.

Unfortunately, that is not the case in Turkey, Erdogan and his party believe that the secular nature of Turkey must be destroyed and that Islamic Law must become the only law of the land. They believe that Islamic Law derives from God and not from the consent of the governed. In fact, for Shari'a to be imposed, democracy must be DESTROYED for the reasons set forth below.

Islamic Law is utterly totalitarian in nature and fundamentally ANTI-ndemocratic. Islamic scholars have declared that democracy itself is un-Islamic because in a democracy men and NOT Allah decide what the law is and men decide when or if the law should be changed. This concept is anathema to Islamic Law which holds that all valid laws derive solely from Allah and mere humans ARE NOT PERMITTED to alter or amend it. Hence, Ergogan and his party believe that the government derives its power to govern from Allah, NOT from the consent of the governed. Under Islamic law, the people MUST SUBMIT.

That's why Turkey's constitution is not the same as that of the United States. It was specifically designed to preserve and protect the secular nature of the country from Islam and to prevent any government from destroying democracy by reimposing Islamic Law or the Caliphate on the citizens of Turkey. The Turkish constitution, until this disastrous referendum, specifically empowered the military to intervene and remove any government which sought to impose Islamic Law on the country. The Turkish constitution also gave the judiciary the power to overrule decisions of the government which had the effect of reimposing Islamic law in whole or in part.

So, Erdogan's first move was against the military by conducting a purge based on trumped up charges indicting and prosecuting more than eighty high-ranking officers for an alleged "conspiracy" to overthrow the government (even though that is their constitutionally mandated role if the government turns Islamist.)

The next major step was this referendum, because buried in the referendum was the power to pack the judiciary with Erdogan stooges and destroy the judiciary's ability to withstand the Islamization of Turkey.

With the military out of his way and the court neutered, the imposition of Shari'a on Turkey and the destruction of its secular democracy is assured.

Chris, before ranting about hypocrisy, you should always keep in mind that Adolf Hitler was DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED to the Reichstag. He became Chancellor of Germany LEGALLY, at the invitation of the President of the Weimar Republic. I'm sure you're familiar with what followed.

More recently, Hamas was "DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED" in Gaza. That didn't stop them from staging a violent coup to oust the more secular Fatah party and cancel free elections.

You see, Chris, democracy only work when everyone believes in the principle of one man, one vote. It never works when one of the parties believes in the principle of one man, one vote, ONE TIME!

You CANNOT use the U.S. Constitution to defend yourself because you are NOT a party to it.

Mentally deficient muslims should not procreate. For the sake of humanity, don't breed.

Obama's job as President is not only to be America's trojan horse, it is also to help achieve the rise of the Antichrist. Barrack Hussein Obama is a taqiyya practicing muslim who role in America is the same as Ahmadenijad in Iran. To prepare the rise of Imam Mahdi aka the Antichrist. Could Turkey's Erdogan be Imam Mahdi? Folks we are living in prophetic times. The good news is that the evil rise of Islam will soon be defeated, by the Lamb of God.....Jesus Christ!

It's all in scriptures, read God's Word, the Bible!

Time is short, please prepare by getting right with God. Remember, the ONLY way to the Father is through his Son!

I might be marraige soon to than nice muslim woman. I believe my ex-wife when I was than christian murder her baby daughter by me when it was than helpless baby. It is rather difficult to tell, wading through DoI's semi-literate verbiage, but it appears that he is trying to convince us that police have stated—in open court, mind you—that they would do nothing to hinder him from murdering his ex-wife.

DoI has stated before that he lives in Dar-al-Harb—so he is asserting that the police and courts are in collusion to allow him to commit an "honor" killing—*in the West*.

Further, his "reasoning"—such as it is—is that we are supposed to cheer him on in this endeavor, because his ex-wife supposedly murdered their baby. (Perhaps this is a reference to abortion—it is simply impossible to tell).

In any case, we are supposed to applaud his importing some poor Muslimah from Turkey to serve as his brood sow, while he plots the killing of her allegedly Christian predecessor.

Damn disturbing stuff, whatever the truth of the matter—if any—might be.
