SRINAGAR, India (AFP) - Indian police shot dead 12 people in Kashmir on Monday as stone-throwing protesters defied curfews and torched a Christian school in a surge of anger stoked by the desecration of the Koran.The death toll was the highest for a single day since a wave of anti-India demonstrations began three months ago, with 83 civilians now killed in unrest in the disputed Muslim-majority region. One policeman was also killed Monday....
Some of Monday's worst violence was reported in Tangmarg village, 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the region's main town of Srinagar, where a crowd chanted anti-US and pro-Islam slogans before burning down a missionary school.
No one was injured in the fire at Tyndale Biscoe School, but five civilians were killed when security forces opened fire on the crowd as it attempted to set fire to government buildings and a police station.
Thousands of Muslims defied curfew orders overnight and on Monday to hold protests across the Himalayan region, many shouting "Death to the US!" and "Death to Koran desecrators!", according to local residents.
Simmering anger in Kashmir was fanned by reports on Iran's state-run Press TV that a group of Christians had torn pages from the Koran in a demonstration outside the White House on Saturday, the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States.
"We strongly condemn those involved in setting ablaze the missionary school," said hardline Kashmiri separatist Syed Ali Geelani, who has orchestrated the anti-Indian demonstrations.
"I urge the Muslims to protect the members of minority community and their religious places. We should at any cost maintain the age-old communal harmony and brotherhood for which Kashmir is known the world over," he said.
The US ambassador to India, Timothy J. Roemer, said he was "dismayed" to see the reports of violence and repeated President Barack Obama's condemnation of the Koran-ripping....

Maybe India should renew partition. Send their muslims north to Pakistan or Bangladesh. Muslims won't live in peace in India (actually, or anywhere else for that matter) so why not put them on a bus with a one way ticket? It's just realism is it not?

That probably would be necessary because many could not read for themselves. They are being destroyed for lack of knowledge. If they had knowledge they would see how great Christ is, and how they are worshipping the antichrist. They would turn away from Islam, and follow the Christ of the bible. But lo, I fear multitudes will go into perdition for lack of knowledge.

Amazingly the news I've seen has covered very few if any of these incidents. I guess if it doesn't fit your dogma don't talk about it. It seems to be the modern method of thinking. In worked in the CRU of east anglia, it worked in the IPCC, and it seems to work in the religion of politics, ignore the empirical evidence and say your story over and over until it is truth.

That school Tyndale Biscoe was where i went for high school.My dad also studied there.That was of course before we were ethnically cleansed from Kashmir in 1990.
The fall actually began in the late 14th century,when the third muslim sultan ordered the destruction of the hindu and buddhist shrines and libraries.
Of course the current popoulation has had its historical memory wiped clean by Islam.
Kudos to the Indian army for protecting christians. I hope they continue the tough stance, and shoot these criminals at sight.

The headline is 'Kashmir in the Himalayas: The Loveliest State in India'. The book devotes no less than 17 pages just to Kashmir, and a LOT of pictures.
It starts off by saying that Kashmir has been called 'the happy valley' and that the Plain of Kashmir has been called 'the nearest approach on earth to the Garden of Eden', or to 'an Emerald set in Pearls': 'for the valley is always green, and during nine months of the year the inner circle of hills that ring it about is white'.

My old geographical encyclopedia shows some of the scale and nature of Muslim vandalism: a black and white photograph of "the ruins of the temple of Martand, once the largest in Kashmir...built in a mixture of Indian and classical Greek styles, and therefore a typical example of ancient Kashmiri architecture. **It was largely destroyed by Sikander [Muslim, I'll bet! - dda] who ruled Kashmir at the end of the 14th century". Martand was built in the 8th century AD.

The Sultan Sikandar commissioned the formation of a Govt department for the destruction of Martand,the center of classical Indian civilisation in the valley.
There was also a largescale dumping of books accumulated over the millenia into the Vitasta river,now known as the Jhelum.
Sir Aurel Stein was a collector of books and manuscripts from that past.The website aurelstein.org.uk is a good source of information about the past.
I cannot but interject these lines from the 12th century by our national historian Kalhan;

The harmony that existed when it used to be a hindu land. A significant branch of indian philosophy was born there called Kashmir Shaivism. And today there are no hindus in kashmir.
