An update on this story. "UC Irvine upholds suspension of Muslim group, bans it for one quarter," by Raja Abdulrahim for the Los Angeles Times, September 4:
The suspension of a Muslim student group at UC Irvine was upheld by university officials, but the recommended yearlong ban was reduced to one academic quarter, a move that could allow the group to begin participating in campus activities in January.
The Muslim Student Union was appealing the campus ban that was handed down earlier this summer after a protest by several students during a February speech by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren.
Maintaining denials in the face of evidence (funny how that keeps happening):
The group has maintained that it did not organize the protest, though several of its officers and members participated in the protest, in which Oren was repeatedly interrupted as he spoke.
In maintaining the suspension, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Manuel Gomez focused mostly on the participation of members of the organization in the protest rather than a lengthy set of e-mails that was used as evidence in the initial investigation by the university's director of student housing.
The e-mails, which the school said it obtained anonymously, showed that the Muslim Student Union "planned, orchestrated and coordinated" the protest, school administrators had said in the previous suspension letter.
"The public actions of [blacked out] give the appearance of MSU sponsorship to these serious violations of campus policies and First Amendment protections," Gomez wrote this week in his letter to the group. "And because the violations occurred on campus ... the perception of MSU endorsement is especially difficult to overcome."
The group must complete 100 hours of community service before it can apply for reinstatement late this year. Once that has been granted, the union will be on probation for two years.
No situation is ever too absurd to play the victim card:
During a news conference Friday, representatives of the organization continued to maintain that the suspension amounts to collective punishment. Incoming union Vice President Hadeer Soliman said members have received hate mail and endured personal attacks during this time.
Given what she described as a rising tide of anti-Muslim hate in the country, Soliman said the suspension sends "the wrong message at the wrong time."...
What, to demand civil (and indeed, civilized) behavior according to a consistent standard to which all students are subject? Yeah, totally the wrong message.
And it couldn't possibly be motivated by anything but sheer, seething, bilious hate, could it?
Of course, this is another case of a Muslim group demanding a pass on its bad behavior because it feels somehow less well liked due to that same behavior (see, for example: CAIR's Hamas links, and the funding of the Ground Zero mosque).
Whine for us, Oh little Muslim victims why dontcha'. UC Irvine has one of the most virulent Muslim Student Associations in the United States and it's about time normal people woke up and gave them a slap down that they can really sink their teeth into. No mercy because those lying sacks are racheting up to do it all again.
A good smack on the nose with a rolled up newspaper never hurt any little Muslim sensibilities, permanently.
Here's more on Hadeer Soliman, the UC Irvine Muslim Student's Union, threats of violence, antisemitism, and support for Hamas [read especially the response by the response to Soliman by the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA)]:

OT: Here's a blast from the past - Azad Haji Abdullah, on death row in Idaho for murdering his wife in 2002 (he tried to cover it up as a hate-crime against muslims)
He's back in the county jail for a court appearance, there are no details.
He's smiling for the camera. The prayer bump on his forehead is bigger.

Sorry not a direct link(click above, then on the "A", he is second from the top, click on the picture)
Interesting in 1999 the NY times story had him in a story "Azad Abdullah, 22, fled Iraq 11 years ago, after Saddam Hussein killed 50,000 Kurds there with mustard gas. Before coming to the United States by way of Guam, he spent five years in Turkish refugee camps, where he said the authorities would shoot and sometimes kill refugees."
This story has been a stunner from start to finish. His wife was a convert to islam (his middle name is Haji, hers was Jewitt). She had just been given an award from the governor "The Spirit of Idaho" for her interfaith work. Her and her husband gave sensitivity training to airport screeners after 9/11.
The local muslim community played up the victimhood card until Azad was arrested.
"...representatives of the organization continued to maintain that the suspension amounts to collective punishment."
---------------
This is getting old. I think there will come a day, not too distant, where the victim card will be so tattered that it no longer plays as it does now. They (Moslem players) will begin to experience derision where once they received only praise. They'll be roundly heckled for their pitiful bullying where once they were applauded. They won't have the MSM so heavily acting as their defenders.
And they won't like it. Not one little bit. I don't really think such emotionally fragile, yet imperiously belligerent people (as a result of Islam) could survive such state of being for long, now unable to play both the culprit and the victim with consumate impunity - and no longer able to bully their own way successfully.
So what happens then? Attack? Flight? Grudging assimilation?
"The group must complete 100 hours of community service before it can apply for reinstatement late this year."
Good, they can sweep the parking lots of all the local churches and synagogues.
ZERO tolerance for Islamic intolerance...I am not sure how in America there is a collective idea that extra tolerance for Islam will make it somehow integratable, coherent and harmonious...I saw the event in question and if there is a spec of concern to founding values of this country, UC Irvine should ban MSU forever
Alleluia!!!
Tony B. Liar has finally 'got it' on Islam: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-11182225
However, this is twelve years too late. In the intersts of 'diversity', he allowed Britain to be flooded by millions of these predators, who are now busily devouring the country fom within: http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/02/labour-have-deliberately-destroyed.html
"So what happens then? Attack? Flight? Grudging assimilation?"
None of the above?
"Because Eleanor doesn't like it" is not a reason to change.
Not sure what you mean there, Yusef?
Because *I* don't like it? What about if it turns out the rest of the country (98%) doesn't like it, and they get fed up with the Moslem attitude and decide "no more?"
????
What do you do then? Just get more recalcitrant? Start jihading everybody? Where will that you little 2%'ers??
(That's right, sad little 2%'ers. It's all you got, at best).
You think you're gonna take over because you're so "bad-ass?"
Better think again, and better get some education about America, why don't you?
Is there ever a "right time" or "right message" for these people?
Great stuff Anteaters! Nihil desperandum!
Miss Eleanor,
Whiners are never bad-ass. ; )
Worker fifteen years at a big ten university. This is typical behavior. Keep in mind the international pay up front so they represent a large cash income not to be tampered with or upset.
@ Yusef YK
So, refuse to change! OK, refuse. But that won't alter the fact that Islam is based on the biggest lie ever told.
Why would God reveal a second time what He has already revealed? Makes no sense. Think about it...... If someone today said, "I am a prophet of God and I have come to tell the world about what God has revealed to me," then went on to speak about Noah and Moses etc, people would soon tell him that he was a couple of thousand years late, and that he was saying nothing new.
The same goes for Mo - more than a thousand years too late. Makes no sense. He's superfluous to revelatory requirements. Islam is founded on redundancy!!
Wise up!
"Collective punishment" is, of course, the same accusation hurled at Israel so often. It's getting tiresome. Get a new buzzword, MSU.
How great would it be if Tony Blair actually spoke the truth and said
"Islam is world's greatest threat" instead of the fluffy
"Radical Islam is world's greatest threat - Tony Blair
The term "Radical Islam" is a favoured term of the apologists like Tony Blair as it is a catch all term for the atrocities of Islam, keeping "Islam" the Religion of Peace.
The Muslims in this situation learned Islam well from Mohammad. Islamic tenet: It is the right of the Muslim to trespass against others in the name of Allah and any defense is to be interpreted as persecution of the Muslim.
Mohammad used this strategy from the very beginning by trespassing in the idolaters temples to shout them down with his claims that their religion was false. Suppose any of you were to show up at a Mosque claiming that Allah was a false god? They would immediately charge you with trespass and kick you out at the minimum, or kill you on the spot.
When Mohammad was expelled and mocked for his trespassing and religious insults he took that as persecution, when in fact that isolators were defending their natural rights.
It is incomprehensible to misbehaving muslims that ANYone should hold them responsible, penalize them, etc. Collectively they are like spoiled brats on a playground, caught in the act of their misbehavior. They're angry to have been caught. They insist that they did nothing wrong OR that it was someone else's fault. When punished even mildly they pout and throw tantrums. then "mommy" (the umma) claims foul, issues threats, and behaves even worse than the child.
Unfortunately the teacher (i.e. the West) usually backs down and then tells the victims that they need to be more understanding.
Yech!
Is there any college or university with a Muslim union, where the union has 'not caused' trouble of some kind?
...and of course was this recent incident
San Antonio: Trinity University to keep "Year of Our Lord" on diplomas
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/04/san-antonio-trinity-university-to-keep-year-of-our-lord-on-diplomas.html
This absurd campaign of intolerance and disrespect was run by Sidra Qureshi, a Muslim and president of Trinity Diversity Connection.
"The group must complete 100 hours of community service before it can apply for reinstatement late this year."
Those hours should not be "earned" at a mosque learning how to make IED explosives, to learn techniques on how to make an infidel gurgle at a beheading "festival" for Mo, becoming more intolerant albeit they are the most intolerant fascist supremacist group on the planet, or to learn how to enhance their victimization techniques as they victimize the world with slaughers, rapes, beatings, and slavery.
They should be required to clean a synagogue or put Gideon bibles in hotels. Making them work at a hog slaughter house would be nice.
It's obvious that the University should not reinstate this Muslim student organization until it publicly repudiates the infamous Hadiths that call for the killing of Jews, as well as any that call for the killing of infidels in general. Would the university allow a neo-Nazi Hiltler Admiration club?
The real outrage is that University administrations throughout this land, to the delight of militant Muslims, don't have the backbone to do the obvious & decent thing and demand this repudiation of calls to such violence from these Muslim student organizations.
Demands should be made on the Presidents of Universities to so defend our values & culture. Too much to ask?
Is there any college or university with a Muslim union, where the union has 'not caused' trouble of some kind?
++++++++++++
Is there any country in this world where muslims have not caused any trouble of some kind?
None.
I live in Idaho and remember this. He not only tried to murder his wife but also their children. I think there were three of them.
He and his son from a previous marriage had gone on a trip. He cared only for the oldest son. His daughters were expendable.
There was talk she was going to divorce him.
Kudos to U.C. Irvine!
It's a shame the rest of America's academic institutions don't have the balls to follow suit. Unfortunately that would require pulling their heads out of their asses long enough to come up with sources other than the Saudis, for financial grants. These hyper-sensitive, thin-skinned followers of that illiterate, pedophilic, mysogynistic, schizophrenic, homicidal freak, Muhammad need regular rattling of their cages. Shake 'em up a bit. Remind them this ain't some third-world toilet in the middle of a desert. This is the United States of America. If they can't play by our rules, get the fuck out. And stay out!
Buraq, just remember this:
Muslims freely admit that Jesus, body and soul, sits in heaven awaiting the time when he will summon the dead from their graves. Those dead include Muhammad, whom Muslims admit to be lying in a grave in Medina, awaiting the same day of judgment.
It is a shame that Muslims do not admit that Jesus' ascension happened after two important things:
(1) His crucifixion and very real death on the cross as atonement for our sins, in which the just suffered on behalf of the unjust (all of us here) to bring us to God (I Peter 3:18; Mark 10:45).
(2) His resurrection--body and soul--from the dead, showing that he has the keys to death and Hades (that is, power over death--Revelation 1:18).
Nor do they understand a third important thing:
Jesus' conquests required no swords and spears. The Gospel was preached for a century and a half without the support of power and armies before a king, Abgar of Osrhoene (centered on today's Urfa, Turkey, formerly called Edessa), accepted the Christian faith. While we are allowed to fight to defend ourselves, we are not called to spread the Gospel by the sword, as Muslims believe they are doing in jihad.
Further, there is a fourth important thing:
The New Testament does not excuse Christians from learning the Old by charging some sort of "falsification" of the Scriptures written before Jesus. We take ethical guidance from Moses and Solomon, and even sing the Psalms of David. When we argue with the Jews over whether Jesus is Messiah or not, we read the same Tanakh (Torah, Nabi'im, Kethuvim).
Dear Muslim neighbors:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
These are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ (M'shiach), the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31).
