Amazing, we saw this type of crap in canada where a fleeing felon in a car crashed at over 100 mph by their own fault as Police were far behind and only guessed which way the car might have gone.
The lawyer's call this the "Police-Chase" related death and they even do a photo op of the grieving mom clutching a high school picture of her innocent 28 year old little boy.
Next I expect CAIR will file a Class-Action lawsuit for the families of the 19 Hijackers because the fire dept. didn't rush in fast enough to save Muhammad atta and his jihadist buddies that could have still been alive.
Or maybe CAIR will Sue the Flying school for giving the main hijackers lessons,or Sue the USA for letting terrorists into the country.

Great message to send criminals...does anyone think a cop there is going to chasing anyone anymore? I come from a family full of cops and I tell you cops try to avoid conflict as much as possible given the investigations and lawsuits they face when trying to do their job. Cops have less rights than their victims and are held to more scrutiny...it has an effect on their willingness to get involved and do all the things cops should be doing. Given the treatment of these two officers, it is highly likely French cops will chase less criminals; it will affect their decision making as it relates to future crimes. So, effectively, all one (a criminal that is) needs to do is run away, preferably toward a power substation or other hazardous area; why would any cop want to chase them for fear of being put on trial.

We live in hell. At what point is it no longer over-the-top to threaten the authorities with worse violence than the jihadists are promising in order to get them to stop undermining one's country?

That "non-assistance to a person in danger" charge is in French law, and not English law. I'm not sure if other countries have anything similar. Basically, if you walk past someone lying injured on the ground, or floating in a river, French law obliges you to do something, though not in a suicidal fashion - calling the police may be seen to discharge your obligation. In England of course it's morally reprehensible, but it's not a criminal act to walk on by.
