Muslim student leaders say changes to tuition fees in England could breach Islamic rules on finance, which do not permit interest charges.The coalition government's plans to raise tuition fees to up to £9,000 also include higher interest rates for repayments of loans.
The Federation of Student Islamic Societies says this will make loans unusable for many Muslim students.
A government spokesman said these were "not commercial loans".
As well as raising tuition fees, the proposals for university funding include changes to loan repayments - with some students set to pay more than at present.
Interest charges
Repayments will be structured so that higher-earning graduates are paying higher levels of interest rates, up to 3% above inflation.
Only those who earn below £21,000 will remain paying an effective zero rate of interest.
There are concerns that such interest charges are against Muslim teaching on finance and will prevent young Muslims from getting the finance needed to go to university....

Funny story, kinda on topic:
I was at a party and was introduced to this dude who's an insurance broker. The fellow who introduced me to the insurance guy said, "Go ahead, tell APF the story."
So he does. Seems a couple of Somalis came in and signed up for insurance on their cabs. Routine deal, the insurance guy writes the policies and forgets about them.
A year later, the two Somalis come back. He assumed they were in his office to renew their policies. Nope. They explained that they didn't have an accident or a claim of any kind and they wanted their money back.
He smiled and endeavored to tell them how insurance works. Well, the Moslems started getting ugly, talking about Islamic law and how they weren't gonna get screwed on this deal. Voices were raised. Veiled threats were launched.

A quick thinker, the insurance guy (btw, I should confess here that he's a blue eyed white person) told them, "Ok, wait here. The safe's in the back, I'll go get your money." They nodded with satisfaction and stood in the lobby with their feet spread and hands crossed, like soliders at ease.
The broker went into his office, dialed the police station, explained to the officer who answered the phone what was in progress. He stayed in his office until 3 squad cars showed up. Shocked to see cops enter the lobby, the Moslems again became argumentative. The one Somali "refugee" who threatened the broker proceeded to threaten the head officer.
They were led away in cuffs. Their cabs remained in the broker's parking lot overnight, then they were gone. The broker called the police department to find out what happened. The head officer from the day before dropped by the agency about an hour later and said, "Don't quote me, but the prosecutor said that when the arraignment judge downtown realized they were Moslems, he immediately dismissed the charge of making terroristic threats and freed the two Somalis, who stalked out of the court room in a huff."

Muslims in Britain are playing the British for suckers yet again, and probably laughing among themselves at the prospects!
Muslim teaching (Sharia) also forbids Muslims to be ruled by infidels. By their logic these Muslims shouldn't be obliged to follow any British laws they don't like. The next step in sucker baiting, I suppose, will be to object to paying taxes.

Of course Muslim students not wanting to pay riba could either borrow the money from Muslim charities, or Sharia finance banks, work their way through college, or pay the loans off before they start to earn £21k.
Jews also have laws against paying ribit, but because we've spent most 2000 under foreign legal systems we've had to work out financial instruments and develop our legal system to survive in, and accomodate "secular" practices. Islam's real problem is that it has only ever persecuted others and has never been persecuted. As a result the Islamic mindset has no idea how to cope in alien environments.
Judaism and Christianity were both formed in the crucible of persecution, and as a result they both understand the fundament human requirement of 'flexability as a survival tool'. The nearest Islam gets to flexability and compromise is to use them not to survive, but as deception to enable future superiority. This is the fundamental difference between Islam and democracy, Islam is not about survival, only about superiority.
No need to get all worked up about Muslim objections to paying interest.
Just smile and say to them, 'Of course we wouldn't dream of creating a situation where you have to break Shari'a finance rules. Just repay us the money you borrow - and, by the way, there'll be an administration charge equal to 7% interest. But it's not interest, of course, it's admin costs."

ha ha; accommodation, preferential treatment and veiled threats seem to be quite common and quite acceptable. Only these last days we see Muslim schools inspected by Muslims, the churches in Kuwait being demolished to make way for roads ...or maybe not, Muslims cannot be charged interest, Islamic law always there to interfere if there's an advantage in it, the OIC boss deliberately confusing matters, the usual trouble when Infidels in a Muslim country ask for the rights Muslims take for granted here.
And of course bombs, bombs, bombs. And whine, whine, whine if they are interfered with.
Muslims could either:
A) prepay for their college tuition with their own money.
B) go back to some Islamic dump and attend the colleges there
C) don't go to school

1.) take the current case of Muslim 'students' opposing the payment of interest on loans provided by the British state as 'un-Islamic'. (The solution is simple: provide your own finance in your own way, without imposing on British people.)
2.) then there's the problem of false colleges getting in illegal immigrants as 'students';

So SAVE your money and pay in cash. No one is forcing you to borrow a penny. Financing is a service that you are free to avail yourself of but it's not a requirement.
BTW, are there no Arab sheikhs or princes who can advance you the money you need to go to school? What are they doing with their oil wealth? Building more mosques?
How do Muslims feel about interest on a savings account? Do they accept that or prefer interest-free banking entirely? If it's the latter, then use a mattress.
Why not just smile to them and say:
"That's not how OUR institution works. You don't have to borrow a penny from us, but if you want to attend university you have to pay tuition costs. If our means of financing is not acceptable to you, you are free to find another means of financing your education. The choice is yours."

I had a Muslim real estate client who came to Texas 15 years ago to buy land for a mosque site. he said his religion did not permit him to pay any interest,when I heard that I laughed and said mine doesn't either but unless you pay cash you either pay interest or we can increase the sales price to where the payments, with zero interest will equal the lower price with interest due to the time value of money. He put a lot of big deals under contract and then turned around sued all the sellers he finally admitted to me that he figured Austin Texas had enough liberal judges that he could come here and sue a bunch of rich white guys and the judges would feel sorry for a 60 year old "religious" muslim and award in his favor. He failed to win any of those lawsuits but he did sue his attorney, a friend of mine at the time, and got $700,000 for the E&O Insurance company. so yeah they can't pay any interest but that religion does condone lying, stealing and pulling the wool over the syes of any and all infidels. He came here on a green card from Canada and left with $700,000 cash a year later. Is this a great country, or what?

Very good point. The Muslim's idea seems to be to immigrate, legally or otherwise, and then insist on Sharia by degrees. In the mean time they can pretend to be citizens by
"...by way of precaution, that ye may guard yourselves from them” (Qur’an 3:28).
The West is simply being suckered into their scheme. No true Muslim can be a true citizen in a non-Islamic country and therefore allowing immigration of Muslims is ultimately foolhardy. But explain that to the cowardly or sellout politicians who want their votes!
It takes native citizen awareness of what Islam really demands and the will to elect right wing parties to deal with the matter.
Fine. Have two fees. For those who wish to comply with Islamic law, and refuse to pay interest, simply charge every one of them more upfront. Also, some sort of additional fee should be slapped on top for the additional administration costs.

Fascinating that the BBC uses the word "breach". UK law may be in conflict with Islamic rules but the latter have absolutely no authority in the UK and the use of the word is inappropriate. Truth seems to be that the it is the BBC which subconsciously or implicitly granting authority to the Islamic rules. They have none. Shame one could not make this comment on the site.

If we go to a Muslim country and we run afoul of their laws, they can administer Sharia "justice." When in Rome, do as Romans do. By the way, this is a good reason not to go to a country with Sharia law.

I used to rent apartments, and we had many Muslem renters. I always dreaded the move-in process because of the constant refusals to pay the pro-rated amount. It was based on the day of the month they established as their move-in day. If it was late in the afternoon, they usually refused to pay for the entire day. I did not have the authority to make any changes and on weekends worked alone, so the stand-off would sometimes take hours. And even though the apartments were thirty years old, the inspection was a nightmare of demands for discounted rent. We just never had this situation with any other renters. There must be something in the Queran about not paying the regular rate or something. Perhaps a thousand years of camel trading...I don't know.
