A 46-year-old Indiana grandmother is under investigation for her possible ties to suspected and convicted international terrorists, FoxNews.com has learned.Muslim-convert Kathie Smith, 46, a U.S. citizen living in Indianapolis who has blogged about her granddaughter, last year married a suspected German jihadist, and has been flying back and forth between the U.S. and Germany as recently as two weeks ago.
A pro-jihadist video featuring Smith and her husband - alongside photos of members of the Islamic Jihad Union charged with plotting failed terror attacks against U.S. targets in Germany -- is being investigated by the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center. The center is a counterterror intelligence clearinghouse staffed by law enforcement officers from local and federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
"Certainly, it's being looked at and evaluated by Indiana State Police, which runs Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center, " Indiana Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Emily Norcross told FoxNews.com, adding that the video would be passed along to appropriate law enforcement for further investigation. In lengthy e-mail exchanges with FoxNews.com, Smith alternatively defended her online postings, denied being anti-American, called the Sept. 11 attacks an inside job, the U.S. a terrorist organization and praised the American-born radical Muslim cleric Anwar al Awlaki -- architect, trainer and inspiration for many of the recent terrorist attacks attempted or committed against the U.S. President Obama last April approved Awlaki's inclusion on the CIA's targeted killing list. In the nearly six-minute video under investigation, Smith and her husband, known online as Salahudin Ibn Ja'far, 28, appear posing and hugging and holding weapons interspersed with photos of known and suspected terrorists and assorted jihadist propaganda, like an Awlaki sermon album cover.
There also are photos of German Taliban Mujahideen -- German nationals who have formed their own splinter group within the Taliban -- and mug shots of members of the Saarland cell of Islamic Jihad Union charged with plotting failed terror attacks against U.S. targets in Germany, including a 2007 plot to bomb the U.S. Air Force base at Ramstein.
Smith said of the Ramstein plotters featured in her video:
"The so-called 'jihadists' you have mentioned are actually personal friends of my husband from childhood. In the video he was expressing his love and gratitude to his friends, who have died fighting for freedom. Just like any other American or European citizen who displays pictures of soldiers who have died on their videos. There is no difference in gratitude and love. It is just that your government has deemed these noble men as 'terrorists' because they are not on the same side. Least us not forget the Mujahideen who fought the Russians for the U.S. They were deemed 'heroes' and lead by Osama Bin Laden at that time, and now because the government says so... they are "terrorists."" [...]
While it is true, and was utterly wrongheaded, that the U.S. aided mujahedin against the Soviets, it is false that Osama bin Laden was in any way involved.
In addition to being close childhood friends of convicted terrorists, Salahudin has posted content from the German Taliban's media outfit and the Islamic Jihad Union on forums and social networking sites. He's also written in support of his "noble leaders" -- bin Laden, Awlaki, the Sept. 11 hijackers and other terrorist leaders.Salahudin appeared to maintain forums devoted to hosting Awlaki's sermons. Earlier this month he uploaded videos to his since-deleted YouTube account that included German muhajideen training at jihadist camps in Pakistan, and another featuring the widow of a German Taliban jihadist directing the wives of jihadists to fulfill their obligations while their husbands are off fighting. On Facebook, Smith "likes" Awlaki, has belonged to a Facebook group called "Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb to answer your questions," referring to the North African branch of Al Qaeda. Smith also is Facebook "friends" with pages claiming to be the terrorist groups Al Shabaab and Ansar al Jundullah, in addition to "friends" Sheikh Faisal and Youself al-Khatb, the reported spiritual leader and co-founder of Revolution Muslim, respectively. Her "Likes" and "Groups" are visible to the public; a friend request from this reporter to Smith was not accepted. [...]
On her MySpace page, currently available for viewing via Google cache, Smith wrote: "As salamu alaikum akhi.. it is time for Jihad and it is now Fard ayn for ALL Muslims whether their in the United Snakes or else where...Insha'Allah!!!!" [...]
In classic Islamic theology jihad warfare is fard kifaya, an obligation of the community as a whole but not of every individual believer. Jihad becomes fard ayn, obligatory on every individual Muslim to aid in some way, when a Muslim land is attacked.

This is both sad and awful.
I commend to people, however, a book by Rosemary Sookhdeo, wife of apostate from Islam and British Anglican cleric Canon Patrick Sookhdeo.
Rosemary, from her pastoral experience as 'minister's wife' (Canon Sookhdeo has been a Christian for forty-odd years now, mostly serving as a priest in 'mission parishes' in inner-city parts of Britain with large Mohammedan colonies) has written an accessible - but rather scarey - little book called "Stepping into the Shadows: Why Women Convert to Islam".
It is full of cautionary tales; the stories of different women - and they are not all empty-headed 'dozy bints', nor older women looking for a charming toy boy, nor the sort of moral imbeciles who write love letters to convicted serial killers.
Rosemary's book makes clear that that there is a deliberate 'marriage jihad' going on, with Muslim men, charming and plausible, targeting vulnerable Western women. They can't just *snatch* them outright, off the street, and force-marry force-'convert' them as they do in Pakistan or Egypt (though of course, Muslims are over-represented in rape stats in many western countries), but they *are* carrying out quite a campaign to *seduce* and use them. I understand there has also been, in the UK, something of a 'marriage jihad' in which Muslim men at university deliberately target girls from British *Hindu* and *Sikh* families; and there is a full-on 'marriage jihad' in India.
It isn't just 'trailer trash' women, or older women looking for love, who are marrying Muslims. This 'marriage jihad' in the West targets 'good' girls, well-educated, intelligent and virtuous girls, daughters of religious non-Muslim families, and the Muslim men pull out all the stops to present as Prince Charming...until they have the woman in their power, after which they tend to morph into ugly toads.
Canon Patrick and Rosemary have been specifically warning the *churches*, and Christian parents, to look out for the female members of their flocks; warning them that there are Muslim male predators on the prowl, and that these predators may not *look* dangerous, they may be handsome and effusive with enchanting smiles and convincing stories.
If you are a Christian, get Mrs Sookhdeo's book and share it around (her "Secrets Behind the Burqa", which is an honest and thoroughly-researched analysis of the raw deal Islam gives to women, can also be shared with church women's groups). Forewarned is fore-armed.
The Catholic Church in Italy has explicitly warned women against marrying Muslims. Father Daniel Sysoyev, who was murdered in Moscow by Muslims last year, had not only managed to convert quite a few Chechen Muslims to Christianity; if I recall correctly, he had also done at least one presentation (on video or in print) warning Russian Christian women not to marry Muslims.
Besides Mrs Sookhdeo's book 'Stepping Into the Shadows', and books such as 'Not Without My Daughter' and Phyllis Chesler's "My Afghan Captivity" (which relates her disastrous marriage, in the 1960s, to a terribly charming upper-class Afghan Muslim man, and how she only escaped from Afghanistan by the skin of her teeth), there are also two books by an American woman who had married a Muslim but then come to her senses and gotten the hell out, written under the nom de plume 'Cassandra':
"Escape! from an Arab Marriage" and "33 Secrets Arab Men NeverTell American Women" (strictly speaking, they should be called 'Escape from a Muslim Marriage' and '33 Secrets Muslim Men Never Tell Infidel Women'...but never mind, she's done a fairly good job anyway - onetime jihadwatch poster jdamn had read them both and gave them a rave review ).

Of course I think all girls and women should get this book not just christian. I myself have seen Hindu girls fall into this jihad love trap. The muslim male is a clean shaven funloving party animal, but once he is married and she has popped out a number of babies he turns pure muslim, complete with a beard and a cap. But she is now trapped with babies to take care of and his family who lives with them.

The appalling Kathie Smith is clearly not just a decent Western woman who was fooled by a superficially charming Muslim man and simply didn't realize what she was getting into. I actually do have a great deal of sympathy for this sort of woman and—especially—any children she might have.

I read on an islamic website somewhere , a jihadi bragging that "Their best come to us and we use them against them." Meaning OUR best defect to islam. Well, I thought about that for a fleeting moment and decided he's wrong, they don't get OUR best they get OUR losers, mentally infirm, hostile rejects. They GET the kind of people who cannot function without someone else's direction. They never get our best. Our best are too smart for them, they've already learned what islam is really about.
Maybe the Muslims actually think that these losers *are* the best, precisely because of all the very characteristics that in our eyes mark those people as 'losers'??

You're correct, I left out "naive" in my list of characteristics of prospective converts. I guess I just wasn't feeling very generous towards them at the time I wrote it.

The Mujahideen were being slaughtered by the Russians...who were actually invading the country...The US stepped in a provided the Mujahideen with Stinger rockets...handheld weapons capable of shooting down aircraft...this is what enabled the Mujahideen to effectively turn the tide and force the Russians to leave.
And how have the Mujahideen responded to this very helpful assistance?...They then proceeded to step up their internal terror campaigns against their own people to force them back into the 7th century by making Shar'ia law mandatory...they stepped up the violence to all non-Muslims(including the now better know Islamic tactics of removing Non-Muslims from their country)using such as intimidation, extortion, bogus criminal charges, harsh penalties, hateful jizyah tax, kidnapping of children, forced conversions, forced marriages, and a program of brutal murder (even of their own people who they deemed not Muslim enough) ...they began training operatives for terror operations in other countries...they began to export their brutal Islamic plan to Islamitize everyone else...One has to wonder what would have happened had the US and others simply allowed the Russians to continue with their invasion...
