STOCKHOLM - The suicide bomber who blew himself up on a busy pedestrian street in Sweden was not on a list of 200 radical Islamists that the country's security service had compiled, officials said Wednesday.
In a report detailing the extent of extremist Islamist networks in Sweden, ordered months before Saturday's near-massacre in downtown Stockholm, the SAPO agency downplayed the risk of terror attacks in the Nordic country.
Activity among radicalized Muslims in Sweden is primarily directed toward supporting militants in other countries, including Somalia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, it said.
"After Saturday's attempted attack, we can see that it also presents a serious threat against people in Sweden," Malena Rembe, chief analyst at SAPO's counterterrorism unit, added at a news conference.
Taimour Abdulwahab, an Iraqi-born Swede, killed himself and injured two people Saturday when a bomb he was wearing exploded on a pedestrian street in downtown Stockholm.
An audio file sent shortly before the blast from his cell phone referred to Sweden's military presence in Afghanistan and an image by a Swedish artist that depicted the Prophet Muhammad as a dog, enraging many Muslims.
Abdulwahab spent much of the past decade in Britain and appears to have been radicalized there. Rembe said he was not among the roughly 200 people that SAPO said they had identified as active in radical Islamist networks in Sweden....
Abdulwahab was thrown out of his mosque in Luton due to his enthusiasm for Jihad. The elders did not bother to inform the authorities of this radical in their midst. A mere oversight, I'm sure. :)
It's totally unrealistic to expect government bureaucrats to figure out who is or isn't an extremist. It's far more practical to assume that the intrinsically violent nature of Islam should preclude Muslim immigration to the greatest extent possible.

In this case I think 'thrown out' may actually mean 'sent on his way to take the war to the kufr with the blessings of the mosque faithful', that way it offers the best possible plausible deniability scenario.

Dear Sean muslim; there is a BIG DIFFERENCE when INDIVIDUALS in a society react violently toward others (ESPECIALLY when such acts of violence are sanctioned by a particular religious/ political system), AND when GOVT'S react in defense of their citizens! Violence is a part of Islam because Mohammed was evil. His "sacred revelations" from the demon named Gabriel are the cause of such murderous outbreaks among muslims. Compare his behavior with Jesus in the Bible (not the Koran) and you will find out why Christianss are NOT allowed to exhibit similar violent behavior like muslims but are commanded to LOVE their enemies! Any "Christian" who attempts to punish others is a hypocrite and sins against God. Governents howerver ARE ALLOWED to wield "the sword" to keep order.

For example, people who convert to Islam are probably much more likely to be influenced by jihad, Mullah Omar, Osama bin Laden, and King Abdullah of S. Arabia than normal people. We should be aware even of those who bow to any of them, even those in political office claiming not to be Muslim. People who go to mosque regularly and do not work for the CIA should be looked at more closely than those who do not attend these religious services. Those who make donations to Muslim organizations, such as CAIR, the Muslim Brotherhood, Muslims for the Annihilation of the Western Civilization, etc., should not be ruled out. Imams are also good candidates as terrorists, although very very few would actually kill infidels via self destructive methods.

Since when is blowing yourself to hell while injuring two other innocent people an "attempted attack"? If they mean that the homicide bomber wanted wreck even greater havoc, I'm sure they are correct.
In that case, *every* act of violent Jihad should be considered an "attempted attack"—including Mumbai, the Madrid train bombings, 7/7, and 9/11.
After all, I'm sure the "magnificent 19" would have been even happier if they had been able to murder all 50,000 people in the World Trade Center that day, had been able to completely destroy the Pentagon, and had been able to send flight United 93 into the Capitol buiding.
See? Just an "attempted attack", after all...sarc/off
