Khartoum, 16 Dec. (AKI) - Forty thousand women in Sudan are subject to police whippings for moral transgressions each year, a figure that came to light after a video was circulated on the Internet which showed the public thrashing of a Khartoum woman.Sudanese feminist and political figure Mariam al-Sadiq al-Madi brought the issue to the attention of authorities, the Sudanese daily al-Sharq al-Awsat reported.
The drama of the physical punishments against women in Sudan is much more serious than previously believed," al-Madi said. She said that each year around 600,000 lashes are dealt to women in Sudan.
"The situation was worsened by a 1991 law that increased violence against them," she added.
The so-called 'law 152' allows for women to be whipped for an array of 'moral' crimes including wearing trousers as in the case of a journalist, Lubna Ahmad Hussein, who was found guilty of this 'crime' last year.
According to lawyer Nabil Adib, "a vast array of crimes allows for whippings," she said, citing the excessive use of alcohol and gambling to washing one's car in an incorrect location as crimes punishable by flogging.
Well there are a lot of wayward Muslimahs in Sudan...Washing a car in a wrong area, wearing pants , cannot be tolerated...Why is this woman out of her hut anyway? She should be taking care of her numerous children...The only time she should be outside alone is to collect firewood to cook the hubbies dinner. Six hundred thousand lashes sounds like a lot, but with all these out of control Muslimahs, it may not be enough...
And supposedly rational women convert to this "religion" why if not by force?

I don't know if it's a good idea for a muslima to go out collecting firewood alone. I mean a woman alone repeatedly bending down to collect firewood can cause a Muslim male to have evil thoughts and possibly corrupt his mind.
There are countless ways in Islam women can transgress moral laws, they find new ones every day.

Perhaps a mission of prominent feminists can be put together to do down there on a fact-finding mission. Wearing trousers with their hair all done up nicely. I nominate the brilliant Naomi Wolf to lead the team to Sudan. She's all for sharia's empowerment of women. Or something like that.

The REAL feminists these days are the ones without the label. Today's true feminists (not FINO's) are people like Malkin, Hirsi, Spencer, Darwish, Ingram, Shoebat -- all those people fighting for women's rights on a global scale by educating people worldwide about islam.
In a book I am reading, a Sudanese Muslim woman recounts a tale whereby a widow, a mother of a few children, became pregnant. The family dealt with this outrage to their collective honour by waiting for the baby to be born and then tying the mother to her bed - then closing the door, leaving her to starve to death. Her own son participated in this travesty, and the new baby was given to an orphanage.
I guess this was not in a stony part of Sudan.
I am 99% certain that if I were to talk to the woman who recounted that story, she would say that the Prophet Mohammed would never have allowed such a thing because he was kind and good and revered women.

This is only one of the reasons they want to bring "Sharia Law" into our country. I, for one, say not no, but HELL NO!!!!! I'll go down fighting!!!!!!
I've run into claims from the hard left/anarchist fringe that Islam is feminist whereas Israel is patriarchal and misogynistic. The kind of willful denial that argument requires boggles my mind.
Scum. When are our leaders ever going to understand this painful fact and cease toadying to these disgusting people?
