Al-Azhar cuts off talks with Vatican for daring to criticize Muslim persecution of Christians

Shut up and take it like a good dhimmi. An outrageous example of how Islamic supremacists constantly displace responsibility for evil deeds done by Muslims -- from the leading institution in Sunni Islam, which the New York Times has called "the most moderate Islamic educational institution."

"Sunni Islam's al-Azhar freezes talks with the Vatican," from DPA, January 20 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Cairo - Al-Azhar, one of Sunni Islam's oldest universities and mosques said Thursday it has indefinitely suspended inter-faith talks with the Vatican in response to recent remarks by Pope Benedict XVI on attacks against Christians in the Middle East.

The decision was taken in light of Benedict's 'repeated negative references to Islam and his claims that Muslims persecute those living among them in the Middle East,' Al-Azahr said in statement sent to the German Press Agency dpa.

Al-Azhar, which is a Cairo-based government institution, and the Vatican have previously cooperated to promote dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

However, relations were shaken when Benedict earlier this month condemned a New Year's Eve bombing of a Christian Coptic church in Alexandria that killed 23 people.

How dare he!

The pontiff's words drew criticism from Egypt's top Muslim cleric, Ahmed Al-Tayeb of al-Azhar University who described then as an 'unacceptable interference in Egypt's affairs.'...

Seeing that they are behind the bombings that isn't much of a surprise.

Notice, the spokesman for Al-Azhar never actually *denies* that Muslims persecute "those living among them"—he just takes issue with Pope Benedict's "repeated negative references" to this phenomenon.

And why not? One of the cardinal points of dhimmitude is that *dhimmis don't complain*. He doesn't complain when a Muslim shoves him to the side of the road, he doesn't complain when the collector of Jizya strikes him, he doesn't complain when his wife's Muslim master beats her, he doesn't complain when the Janissaries come for his eldest son, he doesn't complain when his prettiest daughter is abducted, raped, forcibly "married" and converted to Islam.

And if they do complain, they break their "protection" pact—such as it is—and risk outright massacre, not only for themselves and their family, but for the whole community—and we know how elastic that concept of "community" is to the Ummah.

That Coptic church was bombed in Alexandria, and that Assyrian church's congregation was massacred *in Iraq*, because some Copts in Egypt had the temerity to rescue two Coptic women who had been kidnapped and then were claimed to have converted to Islam. Such things are not done! And so, the dhimmis will have to pay, and pay, and pay—until the Muslims have decided that they have learned their lesson, and won't step outside their place for a while.

This has little to do with umbrage over "unacceptable interference in Egypt's affairs", and more with what they consider *unacceptable interference in Islam's affairs*.

Note that Al-Azhar doesn't believe that "relations were shaken" over *the bombing and murder of 23 people*, but over Pope Benedict having the cheekiness to condemn such actions on the part of the Muslims.

It's amazing how these morons deny the obvious facts happening in front of their eyes in their own country, killing of copts in Egypt, and other countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Thailand, Somalia, etc ,!!! It's just mind boggling that they have the audacity to deny every criminal acts of Muslims.

It's good that they don't want to talk to Pope or anybody else who exposes Muslims and Islam for what it is. To hell with them and lets just expose them to everybody including Muslims. may be there are some some good intelligent Muslims who can appreciate this and leave Islam forever!!!

there is an intresting article in today's WSJ. Boutros Boutros Ghali the former UN sectary who is an Egyption is also in denial.

germans watched this happen and said nothing

The world condemned them and germans just closed ranks, i expect to see history repeat itself. they truly are the new nazis, and not only in their hate for Jews.

Benedict is getting to 'em. Good for Benedict. He has more courage and insight than almost any other public figure in the West. It would be fitting (and very symbolic) if the Pope and Geert Wilders could meet someday.

These "inter-faith dialogues" remind me of the "good touch-bad touch" programs for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners. The Christians, Jews, and others come to these dialogues in good faith; but the Moslems almost invariably come to them in bad faith. They have no intention of finding any common ground or making any compromises; all they want are concessions and apologies from the others.

Of course they have tremendous hate for Jews ever since the Jews of Yathrib declined to convert and follow Mo/allah as their prophet and Mo/allah murdered them all - a classic genocide!! But in addition Muslims hate every human being - Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and others who are not Muslims. The hate is taught to them from the age of five or six and also a fear of Mo/allah is implanted in their brain so that they can never think for themselves and they become totally brain dead.

I think, maybe there were some Germans who did not believe in Hitlers policies yet did not say anything for fear of their lives but in case of Muslims you won't find any Muslim who does not believe in Quran and its hate mongering against every non-Muslim!! If he does then he is Muslim no more!!

Cairo - Al-Azhar, one of Sunni Islam's oldest universities and mosques said Thursday it has indefinitely suspended inter-faith talks ....

They mean; interfaith monologue.

God bless the Pope for speaking out. This whole thing is so depressing.

Maybe while there not talking to the Pope, someone could remind his Holiness that Islam has no respect for him, his religion, his followers, Jesus, or anything else asociated with his or any other religion, and if they could they,d wipe the pigs, monkeys, infidels, people of the book, Dhimmis or what every they call any non-muslim, clean of the face of the earth.
Maybe then instead of telling the islamonuts to maybe, behave a bit better towards us non-muslims, he might just say f***off instead.
Now i,d attend church a bit more often to hear that!!

Let's have an ecumenical shout out for the Pope! You go, your holiness!

No wonder Muslims won't allow anyone to criticize Muhammad's followers.
"The whole body of the Apostle is pure even his human waste." Dr Ali Gomaa, the Grand Mufti of Egypt
And by "human waste" he meant, uh..."human waste".
This is the Glory of Islam, this is the Glory of Muhammad...Human Waste.

Yes! Exactly. What you said, friend.

BTW - a little research uncovers some very interesting stuff about The Holy See.

Apparently, in contrast to the nearly-beatified Pope Juan Pablo el Segundo (an accomplished actor and poet), His Holiness Benedict is a "strict man of science"!, under whose "tenure", the Catholic Church has welcomed, interestingly, the possibility of extra-terrestrial intelligences, and that these sort of "musings" are in no way anti-thetical to Roman Catholicism and its precepts.

Further, Benedict(May Light and Peace Be Upon Him)is a man of great personal strength - his story is remarkable, as is Juan Pablo's.

Ultimately, these fools in Cairo can't hold a candle to such illustrious Vicars of Christ.

I agree.

And - let him know.

Write a letter to His Holiness at the Vatican, express appreciation of his Ravensburg speech (the one that triggered the first major episode of Muslim 'Pope Rage'), express appreciation of the fact that he had the guts to very publicly baptise apostate-from-Islam Magdi Cristiano Allam, and then express appreciation of his public condemnation of the Muslim attack on Christians in Egypt. This last is especially important because the Copts are Orthodox, not Catholic; that is, the Pope has spoken out on behalf of Christians who do not belong to his own particular tradition.

I think all of us who approve of this latest piece of Papal plain speaking, must write to him.

If he gets letters from people across the board, of all backgrounds, and not just Christians either, he may be emboldened to speak up some more.

(Though we must also pray that Christians within Muslim lands can find the near-supernatural courage they would need to authorise the Pope - not to mention other Christian leaders in non-Muslim lands - to stop playing the hostage game, for in the long run it is best for humanity if the truth about Islam is spoken out loud, regardless of what happens to the dhimmi 'hostages').

Josrph Ratinger has grown in his job. He truly deserves the title of "Holy Father".

So, "dialogue" with Muslims can only be done when Islam is never questioned, criticized, or talked about truthfully? What kind of "dialogue" is possible if Christians are not allowed to "proselytize" Muslims under penalty of death? What is left to talk about except the expected/demanded conversion to Islam?

I think al azhar ought toi be closed down since it is a phony institution. thoughtless and irresponsible. We ought to close down all gathering spots for this cult. There really is no way to trust people who have been brainwashed by such beliefs.

Behead those who insult the Pope.

Al-Azhar is deep in the bowels of Dar-al-Islam in Egypt, FT. We have absolutely no control over it.
