Sherry Rehman joins the ranks of Shabhaz Bhatti and the late Salman Taseer in being marked for death for committing "blasphemy" against the blasphemy law. "Pak ex-minister Sherry Rehman fit to be killed, says cleric," from the Press Trust of India, January 10:
Islamabad: Several clerics have issued fatwas against former Pakistani minister Sherry Rehman and declared her an infidel for calling for changes in the blasphemy law, prompting civil society activists to register a complaint with police in the port city of Karachi today.
Media reports said the imam of Sultan Masjid, one of Karachi's biggest mosques, declared Rehman a 'kaafir' (infidel) and 'wajib-ul-qatl' (fit to be killed) while delivering a sermon after the Friday prayers.
The mosque has close ties to the Saudi Arabian government.
Islamic hardliners who organised a massive rally in Karachi today also issued a pamphlet that named Rehman as a person who "has invoked the religious honour of Pakistan's Muslims" for calling for changes in the blasphemy law.
The threats came days after a police guard gunned down Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer for criticising the blasphemy law.
Civil society activists today filed a complaint against the imam of Sultan Masjid at the Darakhsan police station in Karachi.
The complaint was registered on behalf of Rehman, a senior leader of the Pakistan People's Party, Salmaan Taseer's son Shaan Taseer and journalist Ali Chishti.
In the complaint, the civil society activists alleged that the imam of Sultan Masjid had also lauded Mumtaz Qadri, the policeman who assassinated Salmaan Taseer.
Chishti told the media that civil society groups feared for Rehman's life following the murder of the Punjab Governor.
The civil society activists said they were proud to be Muslims but rejected murdering people in the name of Islam.
Their safety depends on shoring up their credentials as good Muslims -- lest they also become lawful for slaughter as apostates -- but even this won't be enough for those in Pakistan who want to silence all criticism of Islamic law.
Hardliners have been gunning for Rehman since she tabled a private bill in parliament to remove the mandatory death sentence for blasphemy.
Reports have said Rehman has been facing pressure from within the PPP to leave Pakistan for her own security.
Security has been enhanced at Rehman's residence in Karachi and she has told the media she will not leave Pakistan.
There is absolutely no compromising with Islam. That's clear. Therefore, what is also clear is that violent resistance to those who murder(and their supporters)in the name of Islam is the only solution.
The day is fast approaching where that solution will be forced on the non-Muslim world -- if it wants to survive.
Death fatwa for yet another Pakistani official who criticized blasphemy law

One of the primary reasons there are not more "moderate Muslims"—as well as one of the main reasons why these Muslims are *so quiet*.
Also, notice—this death Fatwa didn't come out of some wild outpost in the North-West Frontier—this came out of a major mosque right in *Karachi*.
Karachi, along with Lahore, are usually cited as Pakistan's most liberal and vibrant cities. If this can come out of a major mosque in Karachi, then it is mainstream indeed.
No "small minority of extremists" here. This is mainstream Islam in Pakistan, and it is no different from what you would see from the Taliban or al-Shebab.
From one of the core Islamic texts, a hadith in which Muhammad said there is to be no punishment for murdering someone who insults Muhammad
In Sunan Abu-Dawud, a canonical hadith collection:
Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 38, Number 4348:
There are other examples in the core Islamic texts of Muhammad having those who insult Islam killed.
How pitful and weak Allah must be if he needs mankind to do his punishing for him! I would rather worship the one true God who says "Vengengance is MINE I will repay"! Roman12:19
Western governments should consider sending agents to kill clerics anywhere in the world who issue death fatwas against persons whose only crime is having the "wrong" opinion. And fear of retaliation should not stop the West from sending such agents, since Islamic assassins and thugs are already targeting and attacking us, issuing death threats against any of us who criticizes Islam, chilling free speech about Islam, and crimping freedom of thought.
can you really imagine the muslime-in-chief signing such a warrant?
:)
What we need are some deep-undercover black ops guys whom nobama is ignorant of - that or the Mossad, who currently have their hands full, I'm sure. There's a lot of assassinatin' to do!
The clerics or imams in the Muslim world are Mo/aalh's agents to control Muslim masses just like Hitler's gestapos!!! Even if Muslims want not to follow the death cult's teachings from Quran they can't do it because of these imams who are constantly on the look out for those straying from the mainstream Islam. Yes,I say mainstream Islam because that is what it is and using the pet line of apologists that there are are 1.5 billion peaceful Muslims is just a ruse. No Muslim can deny the call set out by these imams and the Islamic cult continues courtesy of these imams. Control these imams by any means and you have got a chance to reform this cult otherwise you don't have a prayer!!!
What does our leaders and MSM have to say about these fatwas coming out of Islamic world on a daily basis from almost all Muslim countries. Always the fatwas are issued to kill somebody, Muslim or non-Muslim, and these people in our country are always out to defend Muslims saying these "extremists" don't represent real Islam. I wonder what is real Islam - doesn't this behavior of religious leaders of Muslim world represent real Islam??? Not according to our wise leaders and the media!!!
The truth is all imams are extremists and all Muslims follow them willingly or unwillingly for fear of their life. Thus, the mainstream Muslims do follow their imams and therefore they can't get away from owning up these murderous teachings and fatwas. Hence the "1.5 billion Muslims" argument to shift the responsibility of Muslims from them to just a few extremists doesn't wash. The governments in these Islamic countries are again complicit in imposing hegemony of imams on the people and if they don't, they won't survive for long. Whether it is Saudi Arabian kingdom or Pakistani "democracy" or Iranian theocracy, they all have this common theme.
So the big question remains how to deal with murderous Muslim behavior??? To some extent it has already come to Muslims living in our country - just remeber the the jihadi incidents of last couple of years - Major Hasan , time Square bomber , and many other jihadi murders. Every time it happens , it is dismissed as a stray incidence that has nothing to do with Quranic teachings of Mo/allah. Wonder how long we will keep on denying the truth about Islam and Muslims!!!
Reading this stuff makes it very clear as to why many of the top anti-jihadists are former Muslims. If I lived in a culture that threatened me to shut-up or die I'd be a dedicated foe to its ideology too.
as we've determined on yesterday's thread ("No doubt acts of intolerance against Muslims can be found..."), we are definitely on the same page in asfar as what our (the west) reaction should be vis a vis the muslimes...
i will say though again in no uncertain terms, our actions must be aggressively-proactive and not ridiculously-lame-reactive to the latest attrocity du jour committed by a 'missunderstander'...
you start with a murderer, pedophile, rapist, thief who orders the imbecile followers to emulate him, you do that for 14 centuries and you get a very nasty concoction....
i am enough of a realist to know that there is no way on earth that these idiots can be made to see the light and frankly, as far as i am concerned.... they could remain like this for another 14 centuries..
our job is that we do not allow them entry amongst us from a purely pragmatic, simplistic, and logical thinking.
captain nemo,
Hard to imagine any Western leader signing off on it. And maybe it's a bad idea. But I feel our governments somehow ought to take forceful action against Muslim clerics who incite violence against others merely because those others express views the clerics find blasphemous or the like. I'm deeply offended to see the intimidation by Muslims of portions of our media. I think the Muslims who do that ought to be put away or crushed.
I think at the very minimum we should insist on reciprocity between the rights of Muslims in our country and those of non-Muslims in Muslim countries. If Muslims don't provide the same human rights to non-Muslims why should they expect any rights in non-Muslim countries?
I know this is a non-starter though, neither the people nor the government would ever stoop to this level - after all we follow a constitution and there is no room for discrimination against anybody regardless of religion, race, color , etc, etc. But some how the Muslim countries should be made aware that if they continue to violate human rights of non-Muslims in their countries, a time may come when the same might happen to Muslims in other countries. Everything has a limit, who knows what is the last straw that will break camels neck!!!1
traeh, I think Muslims have already intimidated the entire media here as shown by a very simple test that media is never telling the truth about Islam and Muslims in spite of the horrible terror activities of Muslims in our country. They continue to spout the same old tired gobbledegooks - most Muslims are peaceful and peace loving, there are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world who peaceful, etc etc,- and none of this is true!!!
If the media gets moral courage to tell the truth about Islam things might improve!!!
