Kurt Westergaard is an ironic and unfit poster child for the freedom of speech: he has pursued legal action against anti-jihadists who have republished his cartoon of Muhammad, and has never demonstrated any awareness of the larger issues at stake in the attempts to murder him and suppress his cartoon. That does not mean, of course, that Mohamed Geele should not be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and the freedom of speech of Westergaard defended -- in spite of Westergaard himself. And "moderate Muslims" in the West should explain exactly how Geele is misunderstanding the religion that he explicitly invokes as his motivation -- but they won't, of course.
Geele says he didn't intend to kill Westergaard, which makes this a War Is Deceit Update: "Somali attacker 'only aimed to scare Danish cartoonist,'" by Slim Allagui for AFP, January 19 (thanks to Block Ness):
AARHUS, Denmark (AFP) - A Somali man charged with trying to kill a Dane who caricatured the Prophet Mohammed pleaded not guilty to attempted murder on the first day of his trial Wednesday, insisting he had only aimed to scare the cartoonist."I was irritated and frustrated by his comments. I wanted to frighten him but not to kill him," Mohamed Geele, 29, told a packed court in the central Danish town of Aarhus, speaking calmly in Danish....
Geele, who is suspected of breaking into 75-year-old Kurt Westergaard's home on January 1 last year wielding an axe and trying to kill him, could face life in prison if found guilty on all counts: attempted terrorism, attempted murder, attacking a police officer and illegal arms possession....
Geele, who Danish intelligence police say is linked to the Somali Islamist movement Al-Shebab, insisted he had "bought the axe to help a friend cut down a tree."
"But I brought it with me to Aarhus because I was very angry with (Westergaard) and wanted to break down his door to talk with him," acknowledged the defendant, who appeared calm and collected before the court, wearing a black sweater, jeans and glasses.
Geele, who had an obvious limp from injuries he sustained during his arrest, stressed that he was "a Muslim who follows the precepts of Islam and who prays and goes to the mosque."
On the night of January 1, 2010, the Somali "broke down the front door with an axe and destroyed the television set and computer in the living room, screaming in Danish that he was going to kill me because I had offended the Muslim prophet," Westergaard told AFP on the eve of the trial.
The cartoonist, who was alone at home at the time with the five-year-old daughter of a friend, rushed into a bathroom that had been fortified and transformed into a panic room to "seek safety and call the police."...
Before Geele took a train and taxi from his home in Copenhagen to Westergaard's house in Viby, near Aarhus, he had "shaved his entire body and his clothes smelled strongly of perfume," the prosecutor said, hinting that the man had performed a "ritual" often carried out by those who want to die as martyrs.
She also said police had found a computer at the Red Cross centre where Geele worked that he had used to conduct research on axes and to locate Westergaard's home.
The cartoonist has faced numerous death threats since the publication of his drawing of the Prophet Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb with a lit fuse....
Westergaard remains clueless: "Danish Mohammed cartoonist attacker goes on trial," by Slim Allagui for AFP, January 18:
[...] Westergaard, who is scheduled to testify Thursday, said he thought "he will be sentenced to a heavy prison sentence.""I do not want to excuse his actions, but I would really like to understand how he got to that point. Maybe he was manipulated," the cartoonist suggests, insisting more than five years after his drawing first appeared that it does not represent Mohammed.
"I made a caricature of a terrorist who evokes Islam and who abuses it, as some would say," said Westergaard, who today is closely watched over by bodyguards....
"A terrorist who evokes Islam and who abuses it." Of course. Everyone knows that it's a Religion of Peace. And if you don't say so, they might hack through your front door with an axe.
""A terrorist who evokes Islam and who abuses it." Of course. Everyone knows that it's a Religion of Peace."
Because if you don't...*shakes fist*
How can this man remain so clueless of the religion which is threatening his life and liberty?
Kurt, wake up. The man whose caricature you drew was not abusing islam, he WAS being a perfect muslim. Read and arm yourself with facts about islam. And become, if you have the courage, a poster boy of this fight to keep our freedom of speech intact.
A "Muslim who follows the precepts of Islam" and carries an axe to someone's house is obviously bent on following specific precepts of Islam, to wit: Qur'an 47:4 (Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks) and 8:12 (smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them).
"I would really like to understand how he got to that point."
Mr. Westergaard's pen was smarter than he is. It captured perfectly the essence of Muslims: short-fused, nasty-tempered, scowling, prideful and eternally hostile.
"But I brought it with me to Aarhus because I was very angry with (Westergaard) and wanted to break down his door to talk with him,"
...talk with him... Yeah, riiiiight. We all know how easy it is to suddenly calm down and have rational conversation when our blood is boiling, and that's just normal non-Muslims people, but Muslims have absolutely no concept of responsible self-control (as they've shown the world time and time again, ad nauseum).
If he'd just wanted to talk with the guy wouldn't he have simply rung the door-bell or called him up on the phone? Putz!
Yes, working at the Red Cross. That doesn't send up any red flags?
Also, writer "Slim"....tee hee hee. Sorry.
Geele, . . ., stressed that he was "a Muslim who follows the precepts of Islam and who prays and goes to the mosque."
+++++
And I believe him. This is exactly what we hear in the mosques. Sometimes it was blunt, "Kill the kuffir." Sometimes more subtly stated, "Do what is necessary to protect Islam." Either way, the message was clear.
What kind of a religion demands of its adherents to pray for the deaths of others. This is so upside down. In all other faiths people pray to establish themselves in union with the Almighty, leaving the punishment of others to the Almighty himself. I have long thought that the so-called god of Islam was so very weak in that he needed his earth-bound minions to carry out his wishes. Now that I know better, I see that these lustful wishes were those of Mohammed himself.
Denmark: Muslim who hacked through Motoonist's door with axe calls himself "a Muslim who follows the precepts of Islam and who prays and goes to the mosque"
.........................................
Well, of course. Going to the mosque, performing Salat, terrorizing and murdering non-dhimmi Infidels—all these are fully in line with following "the precepts of Islam".

Perhaps Muslims also perform these rituals before wanting to have a "good talk" with Infidels. sarc/off

Perhaps so. But he did create one of the most iconic anti-Jihad images, and has done much—intentionally or not—to draw attention to the Jihad against freedom of speech and the baleful threat of "blasphemy" under Islam.
He has also been much braver than most—he has said, re being threatened by Jihadists, "I'm an old man with a stiff neck. I can't bow my head to anyone".
This has been enough for me to include him in my "Heroes Against Jihad" series:

Of course he is a good muslim! Why? because the best muslim did exactly the same thing. Bint Marwan wrote a poem criticizing Muhammad, she was killed while breastfeeding her baby. Um Kerfa, this old woman, was tied between two camels...she was split into two.

From a core Islamic text, a hadith in which Muhammad said there is to be no punishment for murdering someone who insults Muhammad
From Sunan Abu-Dawud, a canonical hadith collection:
Book 38, Number 4348:
Another canonical hadith:
Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 38, Number 4349:
Here's a very incomplete list of organizations or people self-censoring, hiring bodyguards, going into hiding, or taking other measures after receiving death threats from Muslims following the example of Muhammad. The list:
Yale University Press; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; director of the museum in the Hague, Wim van Krimpen; the National Archives of Canada, 150 Austrian Coptic Christians; see also 100+ Canadian-Arab Christians; artist Molly Norris; the producers of South Park; journalist Lawrence O'Donnell; cartoonist Lars Vilks; philosopher Robert Redeker; filmmaker Theo Van Gogh; authors Hirsi Ali and Salman Rushdie; Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten; and again Jyllands Posten; atheist Sabri Husibi; lyricist Javed Akhtar; cartoonist Kurt Westergaard; the director of the film 2012; the comedian Penn Jillette; the British potter Grayson Perry; lawyer Majed Moughni; author Taslima Nasreen; disc jockey/musician Jakub Rene Kosik; Coptic Orthodox priest Zakaria Botros, pop star Deeyah, politician Shiria Khatun, Christian minister Dr. Peter Hammond; actor Omar Sharif; artist Sooreh Hera; artist Sarah Maple; Beatle Paul McCartney; and Volvo and Ikea, and countless others.
The growth of Islam means the death of civil liberties. It's time to resist, limit, and contain it in every legal way possible.
He shaved his body because...he was upset and wanted to talk calmly with Westergaard-- while holding an axe?!
Westergaard can congratulate himself for being a "good European"-- who would never hate a person for his religion, or worse, blame a religion for making a person bad-- and can go on doing so while his own culture crumbles around him!
Westergaard-- you should not believe that all Muslims are bad. But the Muslim religion tolerates and even encourages violence in the "defense" of its prophet and of its traditional morals. That is an historical fact we all need to recognise. The fate of the Pakistani governor Salman Taseer comes directly to mind.
Imagine the uproar if a fanatical Christian marched into a mosque with an axe hoping to "scare" them.
Won't hear much of anything about this.
" Here's Johhnnny " !
"Kurt Westergaard is an ironic and unfit poster child for the freedom of speech: he has pursued legal action against anti-jihadists who have republished his cartoon of Muhammad, and has never demonstrated any awareness of the larger issues at stake in the attempts to murder him and suppress his cartoon."
Yeah. What's his problem?
"A Muslim who prays is not a terrorist..."
“Police needs more knowledge. Any muslim can pray in a public space. It is completely normal and just because you pray, you are not a terrorist.”
http://www.islamophobia-watch.com/islamophobia-watch/2011/1/13/just-because-you-pray-you-are-not-a-terrorist-swedish-muslim.html
I have wanted to talk to a lot of people...not once did I think of going to their home and hacking through the front door with an axe and then upon entering, begin cursing and hacking up furniture and then fighting the police when they showed up...But then, I don't attend Mosque prayers...
MuslimaNoMore, were you born into a Muslim family? I'd be really interested to hear how you left Islam. What do you think is the most effective way to show a Muslim that Islam is not all it's cracked up to be, that Muhammad was not the man they think he was?
I always find it really interesting to hear how people left Islam. It would be great to hear your story.
Also, where are you from? It seems to me that a large number of the people who I've heard of leaving Islam are Iranians.
These wacky muslims are at their most ridiculous (and revealing as lying scum) when trying to talk their way out of trouble.
"Gee, I was just helping my friend cut down a tree when, as an afterthought, I decided to stop by Kurt's place and have a little chat with him. I still had my axe with me (from the tree-thing, of course) and he didn't seem to hear my knock so I just, er, let myself in. Sure, I was unhappy with him about the Motoon-thing (what good muslim wouldn't be?), but I thought we could, you know, talk it through. But he refused to see me and fled to another room. It was this snubbing insult that resulted in the damage to his TV and computer. But I'm a good muslim, I never intended to kill anyone. I'm sure he knew that..."
"...he was going to kill me because I had offended the Muslim prophet," Westergaard told AFP..."
Offended Mohammed?
Wowser.
That's a neat trick offending someone who's been dead for 1300 years.
They can barely contain themselves from contacting their attorneys when presented with the occasional slab of bacon on their "cultural center" sidewalks...
Muhammad's little helper might have been believed -- might -- in his assertion that he was only try to frighten Westergaard up until the point he attacked a police officer. The police officer obviously believed the threat was real, as he/she was forced to shoot.
And then there's that part about shaving his entire body and loading up with perfume. Is that to fit in with the 72 virgins who also presumably shave their entire body and use perfume?
It also amuses me how Muslims still pretend that Islam is monotheistic, claiming that Christianity is inferior because it is polytheistic (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, not to mention the Saints), all the while willing to kill anyone who says/writes/draws anything remotely derogatory regarding the #2 guy.
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door;
Only this, and nothing more."
And people say that Edgar Allan Poe is not relevant today!
" How can this man remain so clueless of the religion which is threatening his life and liberty " ?
Good question.
I suppose that Westergaard believes that most people have specially fortified bathrooms to run to, in case of an emergency.
Immigration from Islamic countries is no less than an invasion. The stability of the western world is under severe duress. Why are our leaders doing this to our society ... why? Why are they destroying our culture ....
Mohammad G. only wanted to open Westergaard's mind.
And was willing to go throuugh his skull with an ax to do it.
OT
Don’t you love it when they stop with the lying and blurt out the truth...
Iraqi-Canadian arrested for alleged role in terror cell
“Islam came for the good of humanity. So if someone doesn’t like good, we fight them, like those dog Americans,” he said
he told his mother that “his greatest wish was to die a martyr be greeted by 70 virgins in paradise,”

Thanks for the list, Traeh. I have been familiar with most of these cases, but seeing them all listed together is especially disturbing. I'm sure it's just the tip of the iceberg, as well—that there are many cases that either never made the national (or international) news, or where the victims were too frightened to report the threats in the first place.
Also, it's a list that is growing longer all the time—and growing exponentially, at that—as the Muslim population in the West mushrooms, and as it increasingly feels its power.
And there's never really an "expiration date" on these threats, either. Are the other, less high-profile MoToon artists' lives at risk? Is Sherry Jones—author of the moronic "Jewel of Medina"—and her publishers still in danger? Is granddaddy-of-them-all threatened writer Salman Rushdie *really safe*?
Or will some pious Muslim one day decide that "taking them out" is just the ticket to those 72 virgins?
I always wonder this, too. The situation will soon be irreversible. Is it because our leaders want us to become slaves to Muslims? But why would they want that? Is it because they are frightened? But we are the ones they send to war; they don't go themselves. Do they actually believe all that PC stuff we think they are using to weaken us? Do they really think that "diversity" is more important than life itself? Is there something in the water that is killing our brains?
Damned if I can work it out.
To ethoman "Why are our leaders doing this to our society...".
They are doing this because they are traitors to their societies and country and here is what Churchill said about this treasonous people.
“It is the primary right of men to die and kill for the land they live in, and to punish with exceptional severity all members of their own race who have warmed their hands at the invader’s hearth.”
Need I say anymore.
Yeah you pretty much covered all of the bases with that Churchill quote :-).
It can't be said that this is an accident any longer, to do so insults our intelligence, so it must be treason.
Ethoman wrote:

Living as I do on the "left coast"—the San Francisco Bay Area—I think I have a bit of insight here.
Many devoted multiculturalists believe against all evidence that only white Western Judeo-Christians (and their cultural heirs) can be truly bad people. By allowing unfettered immigration we are both atoning for our "colonial" past and exposing ourselves to the salubrious effect of merely being in close proximity to non-Western peoples.
Later, of course, fear can be very much a factor, most notably when dealing with Muslims. The denial that that fear exists—that it, in fact, *can* exist outside of irrational "racism"—makes it all the more difficult for them to confront.
As to selling out our rich and civilized culture, many multiculturalists deny that such exists at all. About fifteen years ago, a local, very popular DJ—asked about "Western culture"—sneered "What's that? *Mayonnaise*?". It's not so much that some clueless DJ would make such a comment, but that callers chimed in for *weeks* afterward in loud agreement. That this station played almost entirely Western alternative rock didn't seem to strike anyone as ironic, if not downright hypocritical.
Many of the more decent—but still profoundly deluded—multiculturalists believe that everybody is essentially just like us—democratically-minded and staunch followers of the golden rule—only with better food and more exotic music. The idea that *any* of these people could conceivably hold very different moral and political aims seems entirely beyond their grasp—odd, really, for people who put such a premium on "diversity".
Then, there are a much uglier lot who believe that Western failings are so great and its culture so fundamentally evil—despite its great achievements of law, culture, and the arts—which have resulted in the *freest societies in human history*—that we *deserve* to have our culture absolutely destroyed by and replaced with—well, almost anything, really.
The more (comparatively) decent of this lot cannot believe that *anything* can be worse than what we have created—these are people who not only know nothing about history, but nothing about the state of most of the non-Western world, either.
The worst of the lot are *those who do know*—and still want to see us utterly destroyed. This group represents a toxic combination of malevolence and deepest self-loathing.
gravenimage, you're welcome.
Geele according to himself only "intended to have a talk" with Kurt Westergaard, whose in court response to that was "the little cowardly liar!" and he went on to explain what Geele had threatened to do.
Thank you all PJG, Gerald, and gravenimage.
You bring up some interesting points, which reminded me of a conversation I had with my mother (died in the wool Communist) when I was in the 5th grade. She was telling me how horrible White people are, and how horrible our culture is. She started talking about birth control and population control etc.
I remember thinking how incredibly stupid these ideas were, even as a child. I told her that if we didn't have enough babies our culture would be destroyed, and that this would be bad for our children. She rolled her eyes at me in this sort of oh well gesture ... I remember thinking she was insane.
Needless to say we yell at one another now in regards to religion and politics, she has even physically assaulted some of my literary references with her literary references. We have actual HUGE shouting matches ... but you know I knew she was whacked out of her mind when I was 10 years old. She can barely hold herself back from assaulting me over Israel ... when Israel defends herself there is always a war brewing over here as well :-).
Thanks for your observations, Ethoman. It sounds—sadly—as though you have had plenty of first-hand experience with the phenomena I was describing.
