Egypt recalls Vatican envoy after Pope criticizes persecution of Christians

Shut up, dhimmi. You'll take it and like it. "Egypt recalls Vatican envoy over pope remarks," from AFP, January 11 (thanks to Alexandre):

Egypt is recalling its Vatican envoy for consultations over remarks by Pope Benedict XVI on Coptic Christians seen as an "interference" in its affairs, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

The action follows "new statements from the Vatican concerning Egypt which are considered by Egypt as unacceptable interference in its internal affairs," the ministry spokesman said in an apparent reference to remarks concerning Copts.

The pontiff has expressed repeatedly his solidarity with the Copts and called on world leaders to protect them in the aftermath of a New Year's Day church bombing that killed 21 people as worshippers emerged from midnight mass in Alexandria. [...]

Egypt's top Muslim cleric, Ahmed al-Tayeb, criticized the pope's call on world leaders to defend the Copts as interference in his country's affairs.

"I disagree with the pope's view, and I ask why did the pope not call for the protection of Muslims when they were subjected to killings in Iraq?" the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the oldest Islamic seat of learning and Sunni Muslim authority, told a news conference on January 2.

The Vatican immediately rejected the accusation, saying the head of the Roman Catholic Church had shown solidarity with the Coptic community as well as concern for the consequences of the violence for the Christian and Muslim population.

"Therefore we cannot see how the pope's approach to bring everybody to accept non-violence can be considered meddling," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said....

Is there no limit to Muslim hypocrisy?

(1) Interference in Internal Affairs

It seems to me Muslims are always interfering in the affairs of others, particularly when it comes to treatment of Muslims (minaret or veil ban, "Islamophobia," etc.) or criticism of their faith (film, cartoon, articles, books, burning Korans, etc...).

(2) "Why did the pope not call for the protection of Muslims when they were subjected to killings in Iraq?"

Who was do the killing? Most of the Muslims killed in Iraq were killed by other Muslims. Unless, of course, the Grand Mufti deems Shiites not to be Muslims. In which case, his statement makes some sense, but not much.

(3) Egypt has obligations under international law to uphold human rights within its borders. So, criticism of its failure to do so (or, indeed, of the Egyptian government's encouragement of Christian persecution and discrimination) is justified.

Good for Pope Benedict! Hang in there, Pontiff, steady as she goes. Many non-Christians and Christians of all denominations support Pope Benedict. The world needs a strong voice against the moslems.

The Pope should stand by his statement of support for the Coptic Christians. Let the Egyptian government rage. It will help make the pope's point.

Since when is it the job of any pope to worry about muslims? The biggest enemy of muslims: other muslims. Muslims don't worry about one another, i.e., remember the tsunami? Let the kaffir do the heavy lifting and fork over the jizya.

The Vatican has done more than I would in reaching out to these animals, and this is the thanks they get. I'm glad Benedict XVI is speaking out. I wish the US government and the UN would cut off some funding, but they'll probably increase it.

Off-duty policeman shoots 71-year-old Christian dead on train in Egypt, sparking protests

CAIRO (AP) — An off-duty policeman boarded a train and opened fire on Tuesday, killing a 71-year-old Christian man and wounding his wife and four others, the Interior Ministry said. The attack, less than two weeks after the suicide bombing of a church killed 21, sparked new demonstrations by enraged Christians who pelted police with stones in southern Egypt.

In other words, the Pope shouldn't tell Muslims how to handle their own dhimmis.

Hey, Egypt - Can't stand the heat? Get out of the jihad!

Poor fellow. I am sure he was having a wonderful time in infidel territory and now it's all over.

PorkyPig

As a Roman Catholic, I implore the Holy Father to recall any envoy or ambassador in countries where violence to Christians occur. The policy of many Muslim countries to dismiss violence against Christians as business as usual has to have consequences.
