A correspondent for Al-Jazeera observes, "there will be many questions whether the Salamut attack has religious roots."
A gunman shouting "Allahu akbar" and checking wrists for Coptic cross tattoos will tend to raise questions like that. "Cairo protests against the Vatican. Another Christian killed and five wounded," from AsiaNews, January 12:
Cairo (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The very day Egypt recalls its ambassador to the Holy See over the Pope's declarations of solidarity with Copts, another attack, in all likelihood inspired by Islamic fundamentalism, has resulted in on Christian dead and five people wounded in the land of the Pyramids. Yesterday Cairo recalled its ambassador for consultations. The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hossam Zaki, said that the recall is the result of "new statements by the Vatican that affect the internal affairs of Egypt, and that Egypt considers an unacceptable interference in its internal affairs." A Vatican source told Agence France Presse that the move "does not constitute a break in diplomatic relations."
He called for the protection of the Copts. Egypt has certainly paid lip service to doing just that, so he has not called for anything they don't claim to be doing. All he did was dare to state the obvious: that all is not well.
In a statement, the Vatican said it "fully supports" the will of the Egyptian government to "avoid an escalation of tensions for religious reasons ... and appreciates the governments efforts in this direction." The statement follows a meeting between the Vatican's "foreign minister", Msgr. Dominique Mamberti, and the Egyptian ambassador, Lamia Aly Hamada Mekhemar, who in turn said she was "expressing the concerns of his government in this difficult time." The Vatican press release concludes by saying that during his meeting with Msgr. Mamberti Mrs. Mekhemar "receive dinformation and gather necessary details to be able to report the Pope's recent intervention, particularly on religious freedom and protection of Christians in the Middle East, properly."
Meanwhile, another serious incident occurred on the railway line linking Cairo to Assiut. A police officer, Amer Abdel Zaher Ashur, took the train to Salamut, about 200 km south of Cairo, and opened fire with his police weapon. He killed a 71 year old Coptic Christian, Fathi Said Ebeid, and wounded his wife of 61 and four others. Medical sources say that all the wounded, two of them in serious condition, are Christians. A police officer who was not in uniform tried to flee but was arrested in the station. He was questioned about the motives for his attack, but the investigators are maintaining secrecy on the outcome of the interview. Ayman Mohyeldin, Cairo correspondent for Al Jazeera, said that the authorities do not seem eager to disclose the reasons for the attack. "The bombing of Alexandria is on everyone's mind. There will be many questions whether the Salamut attack has religious roots. "
Bishop Morcos, bishop of the Coptic Church in Salamut, claims to have spoken to some witnesses of the attack. "This madman went back and forth on the train looking for Christians. Seeing a group of women and girls who were not wearing a veil, he thought they were Christian and fired, shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is great). " Following a few hundred Copts gathered in front of the Good Shepherd Hospital in Salamut, where the injured are hospitalized, and clashed with police, who responded with tear gas.
Where are the voices of those hypocritical Western Left who love Islam so much - the lives of murdered Jews and Christians are worth less to them than a proposed burnt koran it looks like! Besides, are we surprise why Islam is becoming more invisibly and increasingly brutal, and yet bowed down to by many treacherous Western and Christian leaders especially with the most dangerous Trojan horse in the White House – the most cunning defender of Islam and the Arab/Ottoman world; whom I suspect is also a Nazi-lover (don't forget Hitler/Nazis loved Islam and Arab/Turkish-Muslims were Hitlers' main collaborators or advisers), Hussein Obama. It’s evident enough when Hussein showed so much contempt for the shared Judeo-Christian God in the American Declaration of Independence by omitting the mentioning of Him (see http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=210701). However, Hussein cunningly worships the Islamic god in his Cairo speech - see: "He cited the Koran as saying: "Be conscious of God and speak always the truth. Mr Obama said Islam had "always been a part of America's story"....." – In: Thursday, 4 June 2009 Obama reaches out to Muslim world (at – http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8082676.stm)
This is typical islamic fashion on dealing with islamic terror. The authorities probably promoted and rewarded this creep for the rampage. After all under sharia he was merely doing his duty to allah.
" Train shooter yelled " Allahu ackbar !", as he fired "...
This sounds eerily familiar, for some reason..
Just a guess, but I'd say that he may have been listening to a lot of conservative talk radio.
And there is probably a connection to Sarah Palin in all of this, that the MSM just hasn't found yet..
Will the US please stop sending jizya payments to these lunar-tics...
It is obvious Muslims worship this blood thirsty demon, Mo/allah, who needs sacrifice of infidels all over the world!!! When will our MSM, government leaders and academia understand this and stop appeasing Muslims instead of telling and spreading the truth about Islam and Muslims?? The sooner the better!! Just imagine if this cult didn't exist in this world how much will it be better off.
Seeing a group of women and girls who were not wearing a veil, he thought they were Christian and fired, shouting "Allahu Akbar!"

Hi, Gravenimage ...
Sorry for the OT, but I am responding to you here since I missed an opportunity to respond to one of your comments dated on December 28th where you had mentioned me in one of your comments, so I wanted to offer you the correct information now.
Here is my response from today, followed by the thread from December:
"Even though this thread is archived and no longer active, I must respond to both "gravenimage" and "awake" at least for the sake of public record ...
I completely missed this thread back in December, but ran across it today in search of some other news information.
Poster "gravenimage" is INCORRECT when she states that "Hesperado" mistakenly referred to me as "Denise" on his blog, since "champ" and "Denise" were one in the same. For about a month I WAS posting as "Denise" to avoid detection by two trolls that were causing disruptions every time I posted, but I changed it back to "champ" when things cooled down with those two (who will remain unnamed).
As a matter of fact, I changed my monikder to "Denise" about one week BEFORE "Hesperado" was banned; and I had written "Hesperado" a private email notifying him that "Denise" was ME. Hesp was actually exercising tact by not disclosing that "Denise" was "champ", and I never asked him to do that. Say what you will about Hesp, but one thing is for certain, he is a real gentleman and in fact a very kind person - unlike you, awake, who is anything BUT a gentleman.
And I am glad to see that you have acknowledged the fact that one of your comments WAS edited, since I witnessed this myself. Within minutes of your posting your egregious comment about 5 aggressive words were removed from your comment leaving the remainder of your comment in tact. However I do remember wondering why the entire comment was not deleted, since the remaining comment expressed your utter hatred for Hesp. After witnessing the editing I lost my trust in Marisol's ability to keep things fair on Jihad Watch. Clearly she was showing favoritism towards you and that really disturbed me - it still does. I have had less aggressive and egregious comments completely deleted, coupled by warnings posted by Marisol directed right at me for all the world to see. Little scoldings, if you will. Very embarrassing. But nevertheless I agreed with her and stopped the annoying posts that she requested.
One time I called a poster a "bullying-bitch", and Marisol immediately deleted the comment, as she should have, but then added a post scolding me publicly. And her latest scolding on another thread was equally embarrassing, where she sided with you, a thug and bully, and instead shined the spot light on me. But that's what she does. She embarrasses you if she doesn't like you, but pampers those she does. Fine. But that sort of treatment only demonstrates an inability to be truly fair for one put in the position to BE fair. Clearly she has lost the ability to exercise fairness.
You called Hesp a narcissitic loon, but do you own a mirror? My gosh, when I read that comment from you I had to laugh, since that describes you to a T! ...ha ha. Wow, you are completely blind to how self-centered and egotistical YOU are.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I mean you no ill, "gravenimage", in fact I really like you, but I did want to set the record straight regarding your comment. Take care :)"
Sorry, my above comment may seem to be directed entirely at you, but really only the first part is. Beginning in my fourth paragraph, I then shift the attention to awake. Take care :)
I talked with Hesperado the other day and he mentioned Awake, but not Champ, or Gravenimage.
Why are you defending Hesperado? He is a big boy, if he truly wants to post he can. All he has to do is make a new account.
Why rehash old grudges, seems fairly redundant to me...
We have bigger fish to fry. Don't you think?
I'm a big girl, so I will defend whomever I wish to defend ...
And since you are in contact with Hesp, then feel free to ask him about me and why I defend him. I trust that you'll feel more comfortable with his explanation, than with mine; especially since you consider him to be a big boy, and me - well, apparently you don't think that defending Hesp is any of my business - but you're wrong. Hey you want Hesp to speak for himself? Then fine. Speak to him yourself. I certainly don't mind if he explains to you why I defend him.
Take care ...
This thread is not about squabbles between jihadwatchers.
It is about an Egyptian police officer who yelled 'allahu akbar' and murdered an unarmed, elderly Coptic Christian man, and shot and wounded the man's elderly wife and four other women (whom he knew to be Christians because they were not wearing the Muslim female slave rag).
That is: this man performed ritual human sacrifice in the name of his infernal god.
He was 'praying', if we are to believe a Pakistani Muslim 'cleric' who called Jihad "a great prayer", as explained in the article here:
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2011/01/pakistani-tv-jihad-is-a-great-prayer-and-is-meant-to-spread-the-message-of-allah-and-the-rule-of-isl.html
It seems that in Islam murder = 'prayer' and 'prayer' = murder.
"This thread is not about squabbles between jihadwatchers."
lol! ...good luck correcting all of the "squabbles" that regularly occur between posters, dda. And need I remind you that you have done a fair share of SQUABBLING yourself? You are not one to talk. Please, show a little humility.
Observe that this guy was a *police officer*.
He carried out the shooting with his *police weapon*, that is, his government-issue weapon.
Now ask yourself: if you were a Copt in Egypt, would you feel particularly safe when you saw an Egyptian government police officer?
You mean an Egyptian government executioner...
Hi Champ. I didn't return to this thread 'til now—hope you see this. You wrote:
OK—I was unaware of this, Champ. It is not uncommon for even the most alert posters to occasionally confuse the provenance of a comment—I've done it myself. I had thought Hesperado confused you and "Denise"—I hadn't realized you were one and the same, and I wasn't making any big point out of this, in any case.
Thanks for writing me. I like you, too, Champ. Generally, I do try to avoid squabbling with other Jihad Watchers—with the pointed exception of Muslim apologists—as Dumbledore's Army noted. Not only is this not the forum for such spats, but with the profound threat and evil we are facing from Islam, I don't think we can afford much dissention in the ranks.
We do have some differences, but we face a common enemy that would board a passenger train, look for peaceful Infidels, and *shoot them down in cold blood* while screaming "Allahu Akbar!". I would gladly ally with you, and with Awake, and with Hesperado, and with any other Jihad Watcher against such blatant *evil*.
Thanks for writing back, Gravenimage :)
