Underscoring yet again that border control is a national security issue, obscured as it is by spurious charges of "racism." "Iranian Book Celebrating Suicide Bombers Found in Arizona Desert," by William La Jeunesse for FoxNews.com, January 27 (thanks to Anne Crockett):
EXCLUSIVE: A book celebrating suicide bombers has been found in the Arizona desert just north of the U.S.- Mexican border, authorities tell Fox News. The book, "In Memory of Our Martyrs," was spotted Tuesday by a U.S. Border Patrol agent out of the Casa Grande substation who was patrolling a route known for smuggling illegal immigrants and drugs.
Published in Iran, it consists of short biographies of Islamic suicide bombers and other Islamic militants who died carrying out attacks.
According to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection documents, "The book also includes letters from suicide attackers to their families, as well as some of their last wills and testaments." Each biographical page contains "the terrorist's name, date of death, and how they died."...
Statements from U.S. officials, including FBI director Robert Mueller, have raised serious concerns in recent years over "OTMs" -- or illegal immigrants other than Mexicans -- who have crossed the southwest border at alarming rates.
Mueller testified before the House Appropriations Committee in March 2005 that "there are individuals from countries with known Al Qaeda connections who are changing their Islamic surnames to Hispanic-sounding names and obtaining false Hispanic identities, learning to speak Spanish and pretending to be Hispanic."
Just last year, the Department of Homeland Security had in custody thousands of detainees from Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. U.S. Border Patrol statistics indicate that there were 108,025 OTMs detained in 2006, compared to 165,178 in 2005 and 44,614 in 2004.
Authorities would not release a picture of the book to Fox News, or reveal how long they believe it was lying in the desert. Immigration officials have previously discovered items along the U.S.-Mexico border from Middle Eastern origin, including Iranian currency in Zapata, Texas, and a jacket found in Jim Hogg County, Texas, that was covered in patches including an Arabic military badge that illustrates an airplane flying into a tower.
This item indicates to me that the method of shutting off immigration will not necessarily protect the US from terrorist attack.
An alternative plan to shutting off immigration is to allow immigration, but maintain strict control over the immigrants, including monitoring the groups to which they belong. I know that the US system of monitoring visitors has been abominable so far. My feeling, though, is that stricter immigration controls will be selectively applied to the easier targets, i.e., generally law-abiding businesses. This is not an evil characteristic of our government, but a generally-recognized trait of bureaucrats to deal with the easiest targets.
I would suggest we begin to implement some kind of ideological test into our criteria for immigrants. Like, a written repudiation of a religious-based government, and an agreement that if they change their view on that, they agree to return to their previous country.
Seems like the doctrine of taqiyya might make the ideological test a bit of a waste, no?
OT, but spiced with orwellian doublespeak:

Shush, you! Don't you know that the real threat down here is guns and the icky wingnuts who own them? I saw it on the news -- again and again and again!
And the rest of the country wonders why we exercise our right to bear arms in the great state of Arizona.
Then that most dangerous suspected Islamic Trojan horse Hussein Obama, and his crooked Dem Party SLAVES, want to grant mass amnesty to the illegals, i.e. criminals, where it will include such savage Muslim fanatics and terrorists? Such traitors! I think there should be an intensive test by Spanish-speaking Americans to determine how good is the illegals' Spanish is, and determine which part of Spanish' land they're from; and to have checks made into their 'Spanish' families. And churches should not protect illegals who're criminals - and causing so much suffering to Americans and legal migrants alike.
Well, Katharina.
I have pondered the Trojan Horse/Manchurian Candidate deelybob for awhile now. It may very well be the case.
He is or he isn't, if you catch my drift.
Let's assume "our great leader" IS Muslim, and is hiding it for some reason (he wouldn't have to look long to find a satisfactory one. If this is true, we're screwed).
If it is not, then the issue of infiltration from the South takes on a different "hue".
I live in Mexico. Trust me, Mr. Spencer, Katharina et. al...
If any Jihadi clowns try to pass themselves off as Mexicans, they'll be sniffed out, and snuffed out before you can say SIESTA!!!!
Bonus Snowshoes, Jihadis.
Good night, Katy
Deport all Muslims to Arabia now.
Hi Undaunted,
Well, you have a point. That is exactly why profiling airline passengers to avoid universal pat downs is somewhat problematic.
But, notice I advocated sending naturalized citizens back to their country of origin if they ever explicitly manifest support for a religious government.
I think we will run into trouble if we try to exclude all immigrants. In the first place, there are many young people in the US who are not legally citizens but who came in with their parents at a very young age, speak English, attend public schools, and love the US as much as you do. Does it not seem a waste to deport them?
In the second place, our economy will suffer greatly if we cut off the flow of foreign visitors. Many companies depend on foreign workers who provide valuable skills.
We need to be a lot more selective on who we let in. However, we should not become heartless and brainless in rigidly excluding people who are Americans by inclination and character, although not by birth.
Hi deebartok,
I have a few questions for you. I fully appreciate the nationalism of Mexican citizens.
However, what would happen if a Jihadist organization offered one of two of the Mexican drug cartels access to the opium and heroin market from Afghanistan in exchange for protection in Mexico? What would happen if the Mexican cartels were offered money and guns from Middle Eastern countries and territories in exchange for working with Islamic organizations devoted to penetrating the US?
The US cannot depend on anyone else to do its own work of protecting its borders. I am advocating a lenient immigration policy with respect to peaceful, industrious, democratic migrants specifically so we can focus our security on exactly where it is needed.
I have heard Mexicans claim that they are a lot less hospitable towards potential Muslim infiltrators than, say, Canada. I have no reason to doubt them. I wish you a continued pleasant stay in Mexico, which is a beautiful country.
One can be as sure as Sherlock that we are currently sharing living space in our cities with the Islamist miscreants who dropped that Arabic jacket and that Farsi book.
One could easily find the smuggled terrorist hidden beneath the bale of marijuana the Mexican has smuggled in.
* Muslims to make up quarter of world’s projected population of 8.3billion
* 72 countries already have one million or more Muslims
The Muslim population in the UK will almost double to 5.5million within 20 years, it is claimed.
Worrying stats, from the newspaper the daily Mail, in the UK
Nearly one in ten Britons will be Muslim by 2030, according to a worldwide study about the spread of Islam.
And the forecasts mean Britain would have more Muslims than Kuwait and close to the number found in the U.S., even though five times as many people live there.
In the U.S., the number of Muslims will more than double by 2030 – rising to 6.2million from 2.6million today because of immigration and high birth rates.
From 1990 to 2010 the number of followers of the Islamic faith globally increased at an average rate of 2.2 per cent annually. Last year there were 1.57billion around the world.

Thanks for pointing us to your website, avraidire. It looks extremely informative. I am planning to spend more time with it.

Nonsense. Foreign workers fall into three categories: unskilled, skilled but no more so than Americans, and those who possess skills that Americans do not have.
The first category is for farming. If we enforced our laws, we could use visas intended to allow them in for harvests and then make them leave.
The second category is the one about which you are confused. Microsoft and other companies, especially Indian outsourcing companies like Wipro, bring them in, mainly from India, to replace American workers. These imported workers are not better and do not possess unique skills; they are merely simply cheaper. This has the effect of depressing wages for existing employees.
The third category is tiny, probably no more than a hundred. This was the original intent for H-1B and L-1 visas, to bring in people with genuinely unique skills, but capitalists quickly realized they could replace American workers with cheaper ones.

Hi RonaldB -
I'll try to answer your questions with an eye toward, first, reminding ourselves that Mexico is, I think, about 97% Catholic.
I speak Spanish fluently, and in my various discussions with Mexicans, it is quite clear that they are cognizant of the Muslim threat. But nearly all of the Mexicans with whom I have spoken about this topic simply dismiss the Muslims as "locos". There's no hemming or hawwing about it.
As for the cartels: the Sinaloa and Gulf Cartels already account for nearly 80% of all the heroine on the streets in Californis - black tar. Any overtures by Jihadis attempting to use the cartels for other, nefarious reasons would be, as I said, "sniffed out" by these cutthroats.
Thx for the well-wishes. It is a beautiful country, and the Mexicans are a decent bunch. Canada? well, you know...
