The sole example that everyone's favorite hard-Left Mother offers for this wild claim is an attack on a black man, but "journalist" Jen Phillips cancels out that example by noting that the idiot yahoos who confronted him took him to be a Muslim, which is why they were confronting him. So in other words, this wasn't a "racist" incident at all, or an example of "Islamophobia" leading to an increase in hate crimes against other groups.
Why make this claim at all? Perhaps because actual incidents like the one described, of jerks acting like jerks toward Muslims, are so rare. Hate crimes against Muslims are so rare (see here, here and here) that Hamas-linked CAIR has to trump them up to maintain the media myth of Muslims as victims.
But even that act wears thin after awhile, so here Mother Jones offers a new tack: hate crimes against other groups are really the fault of "Islamophobia"! So Muslims are victims after all, despite all evidence to the contrary! Watch for this to filter out soon enough into the more respectable and less obviously unhinged Leftist mainstream media.

The problem correlating hate crime trends againt Muslims with those against blacks is that hate crimes against Muslims are statistically insignificant, except for the period right after 11 September 2001. I would like to see the table this writer presumably developed to come to the conclusions she did. Seems to be making a mountain out of some mole's daydream of a hill.

I recall the case, a few years back, of a Muslim in Canada, one Mustafa Taj, who on November 3 2006 attacked a Jewish girl on a railway platform. During the attack - which took place, nota bene, on a *Friday* evening - he screamed 'I'm Muslim and hate Jews!', and also called the girl "A Jewish piece of (crap)".

Well, surprise, all you racist Islamophobes out there, if you are bored enough to actually check this you will find that there is NO DISCERNIBLE CORRELATION in trends in anti-Black vs. anti-Islamic hate crimes. The global jihad would have Muslims provoke people who would otherwise not even consider the differences, just to be able to say they were the victims. In other places, Muslims riding out the global jihad may be assuming the conquest is much further along than it is and demand the "respect" (i.e., privilege) demanded for them under Sharia law. Last year, I was in a Target store and was standing in an aisle reading a label. A woman in a burka and her children came down the aisle and instead of going around me (there was plenty of room and I was engrossed in reading the label), she stopped and they all glared at me. Finally, she went around me, disgusted that I did not leap out of her way, and said, "Dirty infidel." Others around heard it and someone said, "Hey!" She moved on but everyone in the aisle stood there looking at each other with their mouths open.

It is huge, with wide corridors. There is plenty of room for all pedestrians even at busy times.
My neighbour, who has twin boys, was walking with her stroller along one of these corridors.
A group of three be-hijabbed muslimas, walking three abreast, approached from the other direction.
There was *plenty of room* for them to have walked wide of her. They did not. They *deliberately*, in close formation, marched briskly *straight at her*, forcing her to step aside at the last minute lest they crash into her and the stroller.
And in so doing, they were obeying to the letter one of the myriad mean-minded, nasty little 'rules for the treatment of dhimmis' that one finds in the Muslim rulebook.
