See the Pyramids along the Nile -- while you can

TraveltoCairo.jpg

Instead of the usual bushel of hate mail and death threats, today's mail bag brought the above flier, offering some perfectly-timed vacation adventures. While "Turkey's Magical Hideaways" sound mighty tempting (See the sites where your people were murdered and from which they were exiled!), I have to opt for "Cairo & the Eternal Nile River," which puts me in mind of an old, sweet song:

See the Pyramids along the Nile
'Fore the Brotherhood blows them into a pile
Just remember, darling, all the while:
Jews belong to me...

Do I really think the Brotherhood would blow up the Pyramids, given half a chance? Well, stranger things have happened.

The Muslim terrorists and fanatics will rob the Pyramids to get more dangerous weapons to fund their savage attacks on Israel and the Jews - we can guess that will be happening! After all, they will simply be imitating Islam's creator, Mohmamed, the Arabic Pedophile rapist, robber, slave-owner (including sexual slaves such as young Jewish captive girls), and mass murderer of the Jews, Mohammed.

Very, very tired of the canard that "Napoleon used the Sphinx for target practice."

It was the Muslims. It's always, always the Muslims.

Egyptian gods, plural? Hello, are not polytheists the lowest of the low, the most vile?

You must give high praise and marks to the Egyptologists who have protected not just the tourism dollar for their country, but held back the Islamic urge to destroy these disgusting idols looming in their presence. These people, and the dollars the international community throws their way for these efforts, is all that keeps these monuments from being turned to dust.

It will be destroyed. The world must, must know that.

No, Robert, I think the Ikhwan would much rather blow the collosal Pharaonic statues at Abu Simbel to smithereens. Because, after all, they ARE pharaonic statues!

I wonder what the Pharaohs would make of the chaos in their country these days. What would they make of these Arabian invaders and their arcane belief?

I would sincerely hope that enough culture is left in them (they are human after all)to preserve these great monuments that they are custodians of.

What better way to jilt jahaliyya and assert supremacy than Bamiyan II!

BTW, the Sphinx reminds me of Mohammad's magical mount, al-Buraq! Equally fantastic chimeric creatures, no?

Given islamists' history of destroying evidence of cultures which preceded them in places where they gain control, hell yes, I do think they'd do EXACTLY that, as I've written about in my last 2 blog posts:

Last night I heard it reported on CNN that mobs of Muslim Brotherhood members were unwrapping mummies. Can anyone confirm?

Also, isn't there an Arabic term for 'time before (Islam conqured)'?

It's sickening to know that a sow's ear of a civilization like Islam can, will and is...roiling and stomping a whole bouquet of finer civilizations into the dusty and barren sty that is every good Islamic nation's duty to be.

Days of Ignorance--jahiliyya.

King Tut's grandparents have already been unwrapped and beheaded.

Mummies. Beheaded.

Cretins.

I saw a new's cast last night of a human fence formed around the museum to keep the rioters out. Several of the rioters had broken through the roof and did some damage to several mummies. There are now armed military guards inside the museum. Still some saneness left.

Don't forget the joke that was doing the rounds last time Egypt took on Israel...

"Come to Israel - and see the Pyramids!"

My money would be on Israel again if there's to be a rematch. And this time I hope they don't give any land back. The antiquities would be in much safer hands!

Plus Israel would be safer if the Suez Canal was between them and the filthy Muslims to the west.

Example 1:
A Curse on the Jews till the Day of Resurrection
Chapter 5:64:
“They (Note:the Jews) have said, “God’s hand is fettered.”"
Analysis:
The hand of Allah is chained, the God of Muhammad is powerless,impotent..
Why?Logic tell us it is because Muhammad could not do miracles. You can read it in this article:
http://www.antisharia.com/2011/01/29/in-the-koran-muhammad-can-not-do-miracles-but-jesus-can/
“Fettered are their hands, and they are cursed for what they have said. No, but His hands are outspread; He expends how He will.

And what has been sent down to you from you Lord will surely increase many of them in insolence and unbelief; and We (Note:Allah) have cast among them enmity and hatred, till the Day of Resurrection.

As often as they light a fire for war, God will extinguish it. They hasten about the earth, to do corruption there; and God loves not the workers of corruption.”

I'm afraid I can. I saw footage of the destruction on Al-Jazeera—as well as the damage to the mummies, they smashed cases open and broke a large number of statuettes.

It is notable that, so far as anyone has been been able to determine, *nothing was stolen*. This would seem to confirm that the intent was destruction rather than looting.

"Egyptian Museum Looted: Egypt Looters (sic) Rip Heads Off 2 Mummies At Famed Cairo Museum"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/29/egyptian-museum-looted-egypt_n_815869.html

Even the frequently clueless folks at the Huffington Post seem to generally understand what's going on here—read the comments.

My Mother-in-Law is a docent at several prominent collections of Egyptian artifacts in the United States. She has been to Egypt a number of times, and is very familiar with this museum.

A number of Egyptians *did* spontaneously band together to protect the museum—kudos to them. I fear they are far outnumbered by those who regard such treasures as just so much "pre-Islamic ignorance", though.

Thank goodness the Met, the British Museum, the Louvre, and other Western museums have resisted attempts by the Egyptian government to repatriate their entire Egyptian collections.

Very interesting, gravenimage. I'm glad those at PuffHo are having their short, sharp shock, and sorry that they didn't get it at the expense of the Copts and so many others. I'm sure there will be quite a few heads exploding around there.

There was an interesting show on PBS a few weeks ago about the WWII art situation: http://www.rapeofeuropa.com/aboutTheStory.asp

I hope Zahi Hawass is able to keep secure the collections he's been entrusted with; unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's any modern program to preserve art treasures as there was during WWII.

I have met Egyptians Muslims, who claimed genetic ties to the Pharaohs. I found it surprising at the time, because they wore the hijib.

If fanatics gain the upper hand, the destruction of more Egyptian artifacts could easily follow.

However, the Brotherhood is clever. They have their 100 year plan, and blowing up the archeological treasures would not advance their cause of establishing an Islamic caliphate. Such destruction might, in effect, shock the world into waking up.

Some Muslims are aware of the tourism possibilities of historical artifacts, but they are held back by the fear of the consequences. You may find this interesting: http://www.lebanonwire.com/0908MLN/09083101AP.asp

The Muslims have destroyed beautiful Orthodox Christian churches and other Christian houses of worship throughout the Middle East and the world: http://www.liberallyconservative.com/mosque-at-ground-zero-kosovo-orthodox-churches/

(Thank you, Robert for your work. You have been a part of a great awakening, and I believe you have been called to do it. May God protect you and keep you safe from harm.)

Hold off for a little while longer. The price will drop to $1500.

I read somewhere that the pyramids, etc, were only preserved because of the tourist money they brought in. They are not sacred to Muslims. Eventually they will be blown up. The Muslims will get what they want: pure Islam and nothing else.

FIFY.

PJG,
The only reasons the pyramids were preserved was that it was too difficult to destroy them. "During the twelfth century the second Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt (al-Malek al-Aziz, son of Saladin) tried to demolish the pyramids of Giza starting with the pyramid of Menkaure. Thankfully the blocks forming the pyramid were so huge and cumbersome that in eight months they had made little progress and he gave up."
http://www.ancientegyptonline.co.uk/menkaure-pyramid.html
Just like the Statues of Bamyan in Afghanistan, some artefacts from pre-islam survived only because the technology didn't exist to destroy them, or they were ruled by non-islamists that did not want to destroy them. Many of the historic buildings in Mecca are being destroyed to eliminate their existence; either to prevent them becoming venerated or because they might show any sign of any culture existing before islam.

Now the technology is available to demolish the Pyramids - the question is: "Is the new government going to be islamist enough and brave enough to do this in the face of the rest of the world?"

When one looks at the pyramids and all those mummies I see a civilization that worshipped death and the afterlife more than life itself, much like many Muslims today. My inspiration comes from the Parthenon and ancient Greece where life, knowledge, beauty, etc. were loved without exclusion of the spirit, i.e., the mind and the spirit were in balance.

"The Universe is afraid of Time, but the Time is afraid of the Pyramids" (ancient egyptian proverb)

Of course, the Muslim Brotherhood will destroy the pyramids if they are allowed to take over. The pyramids represent, to them, artifacts of a godless people. The world will stand by and watch as one of the wonders of the world goes away forever. Sickening.

I regard Zahi Hawass as a rather equivocal figure—sometimes he appears to really love ancient Egyptian art, sometimes his scholarship is extremely sloppy (he has a habit of announcing every new find as "Cleopatra's tomb", or something equally sensational), and sometimes he just seems out to shake down the governments and educational institutions of the West for whatever he can finagle.

In the whole scheme of things, though, one could do worse than Zahi Hawass.

Here's a *very* interesting—and deeply disturbing—little fact about Hawass, though. His son is a particularly devout Muslim—unlike his father, he is bearded and wears a skullcap.

What is *his* estimation of Egypt's ancient treasures? He regards it as so much trash, and believes that his father's interests are "old fashioned" and "colonial". In other words, that Egypt's great ancient treasures are so much "Jahiliyya".

You're both right. It is important to remember, though, to what an extent archeology and art history have been *Western achievements*.

If you go back more than a couple of centuries, the only visible aspects of ancient Egyptian art was the pyramids, the sphinx, and some *very* remote statuary that few people had ever seen—or were even aware of.

The sphinx was half buried in sand—no Muslim Egyptian had had any interest in excavating it. The sole Muslim interest in the pyramids was occasional looting of tombs—most of which had played out centuries ago. Not even the looters were very enterprising.

It was Napoleon's invasion of Egypt in the late 18th-century that changed things. Napoleon brought a contingent of some of his era's most advanced scientists with him. The European public's fascination with Egyptian art and artifacts was almost immediate.

Following the Napoleonic wars, Britain stepped in in Egypt. British scientists were as avid as their French counterparts to learn about Egyptian art. They were soon joined by a flood of German, Italian, and American scientists. Archeology—as a separate discipline, was really born from The European engagement with Egypt.

All the Egyptian art and artifacts that today fills museums around the world is the result of Western archeology and conservation.

Most Egyptians remain to this day decidedly disinterested in their pre-Islamic treasure. Eventually, though, some of them realized there was money to be made—mostly from those same eager Westerners.

Zahi Hawass is notable today because he is the *only* serious (well, fairly serious) Muslim archeologist in Egypt—or, really, anywhere in Dar-al-Islam.

Even today, Egypt retains some cultural influence from its colonial period, at least among its current elite.

What will happen there if Islam reasserts its full, baleful force? I don't think it will bode well for Egypt's pre-Islamic heritage.

Perhaps when the global jihad is confident enough of their hold over the world via an army of Muslim storm troopers, they will seek to rid the world of any evidence of any other religion or history.

Sarcastic yet sadly true.
