What an evil doctrine this is. I still have trouble understanding how Muslims born and educated in Western countries can sign up for Sharia law. When it comes to the thousands of people (especially women here in the UK) converting to this medieval insanity, words fail me. Do they think they will remain untouched by this aspect of Islam? How do they reconcile the mantra of 'Islam, the religion of peace" with the reality of the religion.

Meanwhile, why are our politicians pretending that there isn't a problem with Islam and its insane teachings?

I just read the BBC news report linked to above in Chervil's post and noticed the absence of something.

"The teenager was accused of having an affair with a married man", "She was alleged to have had the affair with her cousin".

"Accused of" and "alleged to have". Notice the phrase "proved to have" did not appear.

Is an accusation the same thing as a conviction in Shariah law?

Are accusations taken at face value in certain offences in shariah?

I have also read (though I can't recall at the moment if it was from the original religious texts or contemporary shariah law) that it is essentially legal under shariah for a man to kill is wife if HE ONLY SUSPECTS her of something.

Is suspicion and unproven accusation legally acceptable in certain situations in sharia?

All is not black. The story said there was a protest and call for the punishment of all involved and whipping has been outlawed in Bangladesh for a year.

It is concievable that this village priest may not have been aware in the recent change in the law but he still deserves a bullet up his snout for ordering the whipping of a teenage girl.

She was beaten to death for being ACCUSED of a sexual crime under Sharia law. The "court" consisted of the accuser and the Imam and anyone the accuser could get to side with him. There are no rules of evidence and the woman is not even allowed to attend the meeting which decides her fate. Under Sharia law it is not "proper" for women to be involved in a discussion about sex with men, even when a woman is accused of something she can be murdered for. Besides, under Islam a woman's testimony is half that of a man, and it would take four witnesses to show innocents. Such convoluted, male-dominated abuse is Islamic jurisprudence.
