The intrepid mujahedin, keeping the world safe from Russian tourists riding in a minibus to a ski resort. "Four Russian tourists killed on way to Caucasus ski resort," from the Telegraph, February 19:
At least four tourists from Moscow have been killed by militants in Russia's North Caucasus region on their way to a ski resort.
The group were heading towards the Kabardino-Balkaria region of Russia.
Cowards fi sabil Allah:
"Two people in masks armed with automatic guns in a foreign-made car forced the minibus onto the hard shoulder, asked about passengers, then opened fire on the vehicle and fled from the scene," the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
All six people in the vehicle were from the Moscow region. Three died on the spot and two were taken to hospital, it said.
A message on Islamist website Islamdin.com, hosted by the militant group Caucasus Emirate, said the tourists were killed by "mujahideens" because they "came into the zone of war".
And who decided it was a war zone?
The group was going skiing to the Elbrus mountain area when they were ambushed near the village Zayukovo, according to the NTV channel, adding that a fourth person died in hospital.
The Kremlin fought two wars against separatist rebels in Chechnya in the 1990s but the insurgency has now become more Islamist in tone and has spread to neighbouring regions.
We hear so much that "poverty" causes jihad -- despite the number of well-off, educated jihadists. More often than not, jihad causes poverty:
The targeting of tourists will be especially worrying for Russia's authorities, who have pronounced the North Caucasus a future mountain ski haven, unveiling plans of a $15 billion dollar program to create five resorts.
One of the proposed resorts, Elbrus-Bezengi, is in the Kabardino-Balkaria region and would host up to 29,000 tourists per day under the plan.
That's a few million skiing fans 'piste off' by Islam. Good!
I think I'll ski in the US, thank you. Less likely to be pulled over and murdered.

Jihad against skiing...

It's not the first time. Does anyone remember the scenic Swat Valley, once touted as the "Switzerland of Pakistan"? It was great until the area was overrun by the Taliban and Shari'ah law was imposed.
You wouldn't find any "snowbunnies" venturing into the area now, sadly...

*Good luck with that*.

I didn't know that, Sean—although my husband just confirmed it. Given the threats the Summer Olympics and the World Cup have gotten from crazed Muslims, holding the Winter Olympics in the North Caucasus Jihad zone sounds just peachy. sarc/off
Skihad, another form of 'inner struggle'......
To the best of my knowledge there is nothing in the Quran about skiing.
If you made a snowman, would they behead you for idolatry?
You know it's time to turn back when you start seeing beheaded snowmen in yards.
Just don't put a turban and henna dyed beard on the snowman.
Is Sochi any more dangerous than East Londonistan?
A risk assessment had been carried out for the Olympic bid, but 24 hours after the announcement of the success of the London bid , the July 7 bombings took place.

Oh, and because of the need to cut public spending, funding for police is to be reduced by 20% in real terms over the next four years.

The ultimate insult, man. May they all be stuck a the top of black diamond runs in their robes and sandals and rabheads after the ski patrol has made its final fun and have to find their way to the bottom before the bears get them.
Of course there are bears. The guy up on the ski lift going past be last run said so.
Totally off topic, but I just found an interesting article...

"moderate Islamic party gets official recognition in post-Mubarak Egypt"
Why do I always feel slapped in the face every time I see the word "moderate" and Islam next to one another...
The North Caucasus have for long been the battle ground between the Russians and the Muslims. Before the Turkish Ottomans and imperial Russia fought over these strategic lands. Now its the Chechens, Dagestanis and other assorted groups that wage jihad against the Kaffur Russians.
Turkey is increasingly becoming more assertive and more and more confident by the day. It sees itself as the leading power in the Islamic world. As a demographically shrinking Russia retreats, and expansionist Turkey projects its influence outside its immediate borders, it wont be long before Turkey and Russia again collide over the Caucasus.
It is inevitable because Turkey will take up the Chechen cause in the coming years as it has recently the Gazan cause with the whole flotilla farce. Just a matter of time.
I think this will be a golden chance for Russia to free Asia minor of the tyranny of Turkik Islam. After all Constantinople was the seat of the Orthodox church before it fell to the Mohammedan Turks. Russia was baptized from the waters of the Bosphorus. The mantle of Eastern orthodoxy only passed to Russia because Constantinople was sacked. It could be a chance for Russians to reclaim not only Constantinople- a warm water port- but also the land of its mother church.
It would serve Europe well too since the Ottoman Turks have historically been the Islamic sword point at Europe's rear.
But I am assuming all this hoping Christian (Catholic+ Protestant+Orthodox) Europe survives the next 40 years in its present character.
"Two people in masks." What, were they wearing burq'as? We should respect cultural differences even when they may trying to separate us from our money or even our life.
