Egypt: Coptic priest stabbed to death in his home by masked attackers shouting "Allahu akbar"

As was the case with the demonstration by Copts to demand a secular Egyptian government the other day, coverage of this story in the Western media has been minimal, despite thousands of Copts' protesting in the aftermath of this murder.

"Coptic Christian priest killed in Egypt, setting off new protests by religious minority," from the Associated Press, February 23:

ASSIUT, Egypt - A Coptic Christian priest has been killed in southern Egypt, triggering street demonstrations by several thousand Christians.

Other reports indicate that the priest's safe was opened and property stolen, with police seemingly eager to settle for robbery as a motive. But one other article also notes that neighbors heard the assailants "chanting Islamic slogans."

The priest was found dead in his home. A fellow clergyman, Danoub Thabet, says his body had several stab wounds. He says neighbours reported seeing several masked men leaving the apartment and shouting "Allahu akbar," or "God is great," suggesting the killing was motivated by the divide between Egypt's Muslims and its minority Coptic community.

No, really? Of course, we get no hint of what's behind that "divide." Murdering priests certainly also tends to be "divisive."

About 3,000 protesters scuffled with Muslim shop owners Tuesday night and smashed the windows of a police car in the city, Assiut.

Like adolescents seeking to explore their sexuality, this group of attackers was exploring their Moslemhood... and they went all the way.

Mohammed not only was an accomplished sex fiend pervert, he was a master murderer. To me the Expedition to Nakhlah was Islam's first blood, although many Moslem scholars, scientists of the Ko-Ran, claim that his ordering of contract hits on Abu Afak and Asma Marwan were the first.

So, to be fair, there is a question to be axed: did the murderers have Jannat-style erections as they repeatedly stabbed the defenseless cleric?

I wonder what Charlie Manson thinks about Moslems. I also wonder if we'll see if this one makes it onto Hannity tonight.

God is great? Oh yeah, several men murdering an unarmed priest of another religion proves beyond any shadow of doubt that God is great, doesn't it.

Clowns!

btw the way, you can read the Muslim comments at the bottom of the film clips...predictably they are negative and hostile...just like many of the Muslim posters who try to defend Islam here...

But were are, of course, comforted by the repeated insistence that because someone shouts 'allahu akhbar' it does not mean that the ensuing violent acts are motivated by their religion. Oh no! that cannot be in the RoP, rather it is shouted on all manner of occasions by any excited and happy Mahometan. So 'allahu akhbar' is just an islamic 'whoopee'. The other leg has bells on.

What was the name of the priest? Traeh asked this earlier in the chutzpah thread.

The famous Boutros who is highly critical of Islam on frequent television shows and had a multi-million dollar Islamic bounty on his head was Father Zakaria Boutros, right? And if I recall right, while he does have a price on his head, he lives not in Egypt, but in Cyprus, from where his program runs. So is this David Boutros another priest like him, one of his associates or relatives, or is it him himself? I'd have thought it too brazen of him to deliver the anti-Islamic messages he used to broadcast sitting in Egypt itself. But then the same would be true of this David Boutros.

Is there another report that has the priest's name, and also, is Zacharias Boutros safe?

Any idea whether they're related?

It's about time! Coptic Christians need to stop turning the other cheek and start fighting back. With a little help, they will achieve their goals and stop being second class citizens. Force is the only way out. Remember what happened in Sudan...A Nation is Born! The cost was high but they finally freed themselves from the tyranny of the islamic North.

Egyptian Armed Forces Demolish Fences Guarding Coptic Monasteries
Egyptian armed forces this week demolished fences surrounding ancient Coptic monasteries, leaving them vulnerable to attacks by armed Arabs, robbers and escaped prisoners, who have seized the opportunity of the state of diminished protection by the authorities in Egypt to carry out assaults and thefts.

Hi, Tom ...

The JW headline is confusing. The only name given in Marisol's presenting headline can be found when you click on "one other" article above:

"They delivered the body of Father Dawood Ghobrial, who had been a pastor at Assiut's Bishop Taudros Monastery, to the Assiut University Hospital morgue."

And yet, the article that you've provided gives the name of another man: David Boutros.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marisol, perhaps you can clear up this confusion; also, the only name shown in your presenting headline is that of a fellow clergyman of the Coptic priest that was murdered, Danoub Thabet, and not the name of the priest that was murdered.
Could it be that two priests were murdered? Maybe.
The priest was found dead in his home. A fellow clergyman, Danoub Thabet, says his body had several stab wounds. He says neighbours reported seeing several masked men leaving the apartment and shouting "Allahu akbar," or "God is great," suggesting the killing was motivated by the divide between Egypt's Muslims and its minority Coptic community.
.................................
Most burglars and thieves I'm familiar with try to keep their crimes fairly low-key, and would be unlikely to be shouting supremacist slogans during their get-aways.
Clearly, this is a crime committed by people who if caught do not expect to face serious charges, or even reprimand.
Might the "divide" between Egypt's Muslims and its minority Coptic community have anything to do with this? Or maybe that shooting of Copts on a train in Egypt's south by an off-duty police officer, or that church full of congregants blown up in Alexandria?
.................................
See? There are issues on both sides! Muslims kill priests and blow up churches full of worshippers, and Christians scuffle with Muslim shop owners and smash out the windows of a police car.
Really, pretty much the same sort of thing on both sides, when you think about it...sarc/off
I always believe the best way to protect Copts is the set up their own autonomous within Egypt. But the Obama adiministration seems uninterested on this issue.
All the same man. The slain priest is identified both as Father Dawood Ghobrial and as Father Dawood Boutros Ghobrial in the blog posting below. Dawood is the equivalent of David, and I presume Ghobrial is the equivalent of Gabriel. Boutros must be a popular name in Egypt - remember the UN Secretary General 1992-1887 Boutros Boutros-Ghali who had Boutros twice in his name? He too was a Coptic Christian.
The springtime of nations
From Al-Masry Al-Youm:
The murder of a Coptic Christian priest in the Upper Egyptian city of Assiut angered the roughly 3000 Copts who turned out for his funeral on Wednesday to demand that the killers be punished.
According to the slain priest's neighbors, four people had killed the Coptic cleric in his home while "chanting Islamic slogans." ... Coptic marchers also smashed the windshield of a police car that attempted to bar their way.
They delivered the body of Father Dawood Ghobrial, who had been a pastor at Assiut's Bishop Taudros Monastery, to the Assiut University Hospital morgue.
Local police claims Father Dawood Boutros Ghobrial was the victim of robbers... (Not necessarily untrue, since Egypt has been "robbed" from its native Christians for 14 centuries. Muslims will not stop until they manage to do to Egypt's Christians what they did to Anatolia's.)
CAIRO: A Coptic Priest was found killed in his home in the Southern City of Assiut on Monday. Reverend Dawood Boutros ...
Police officials claimed that the priest’s safe was found open and valuables missing indicating it was a violent theft, however Egypt`s leading government-run newspaper, Al-Ahram, said there is disagreement with the police`s version. Some claim that the murder was committed by State Security Personnel to counter calls that the State Security should be abolished and withdrawn.
The victim was alone at his home when he was killed, in the village of Shotb, outside Assiut City. Security forces and the army were immediately deployed in the village to take precautionary measures to prevent any development of events that would lead to sectarian tensions.
CAIRO: Two homes belonging to Bahá’í were burned in the village of Shuraniya, in Sohag Governorate in Upper Egypt, and their property was seized by villagers.
The same two houses were set on fire two years ago.
Investigations by security showed that the fire demolished the houses without any loss of life, as the owners were currently staying in Cairo out of fear of abuse, and prosecutors were notified and will start their investigation.
One of the three-storey homes belonged to Mohammed Abdel Rahman Ammar, a Bahá’í.
According to reports, some of those who set the fire prevented fire brigades from reaching the building.
Bahá’í have faced persecution in Egypt for years. The Bahá’í faith, a monotheistic religion which originated in Persia around the turn of the twentieth century, has been illegal under Egyptian law since 1960, when all Bahá’í community properties were confiscated by the government.
After a bit more research I find that Boutros is the Copt equivenet of Greek Petros, English Peter.
Dawood Boutros Ghobrial is thus rendered David Peter Ghobrial in English. I think that Ghobrial is the surname.
Hi, Tom ...thank you for taking the time to research his name and for clearing up my confusion. The murder of Father Dawood Ghobrial is so egregious and typical of bloodthirsty, barbaric mohammedans - islam & company are wholly evil.
