Iran foreign minister: Egypt revolt step toward "creating an Islamic Middle East"

They're dead chuffed in Iran over events in Egypt, and are supporting the protesters. Ironic, in light of how ruthlessly they put down their own protests? Not at all: in putting down their own protests, they were acting in support of an Islamic regime. In supporting the Egyptian protests, they're acting in supporting of the Islamic regime that they clearly believe is likely to come to power.

Iran said on Tuesday the uprising in Egypt will help create an Islamic Middle East but accused US officials of interfering in the "freedom seeking" movement which has rocked the Arab nation.
"With the knowledge that I have of the great revolutionary and history making people of Egypt, I am sure they will play their role in creating an Islamic Middle East for all freedom, justice and independence seekers," Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi was quoted as saying on state television's website.

Salehi, who was officially endorsed by the Iranian parliament on Sunday as foreign minister, said the uprising in Egypt "showed the need for a change in the region and the end of unpopular regimes."

"The people of Tunisia and Egypt prove that the time of controlling regimes by world arrogance (the West) has ended and people are trying to have their own self-determination," said Salehi, who also currently oversees Iran's controversial nuclear programme.

"Unfortunately we are witnessing the direct interference .... of some American officials in the developments in Egypt," he said, and added the Egyptians were showing "they are no longer ready to stand idle in face of crimes by the Zionist regime."

In the initial days of the Tunisian uprising, Iran had said it was "worried" about the events in that country.

"We are worried about the situation in Tunisia...We hope the Muslim Tunisian nation's demands are fulfilled through peaceful and non-violent means," the foreign ministry had said on January 16.

On Tuesday, Salehi said Iran will offer its support to the protesters in Egypt.

"On our part we are going along with the freedom seekers of the world and support the uprising of the great nation of Egypt. We sympathise with those injured and killed" in the protests, he said....

Well, the Muslim Brotherhood is Sunni and the Iranian government is Shi'ite. If the Muslim Brotherhood comes to power in Egypt, at least they and the Iranians will be at each other's throats.

It will serve the interests of the United States to make sure that Iranian agents do not have a free hand to infiltrate Egyptian protest groups. This may mean sharing a certain amount of intelligence with the Muslim Brotherhood, although they are probably at least as able to discern Iranian agents as the US.

The first priority of the US should be to close off any further influence by Iran. We already opened up Iraq to Iran, which was a major catastrophe.

The German minister of Foreign Affairs, Guido Westerwelle said that Egypt has to move to more secularism - freedom of speech - and wants no fundamentalists.
But it was A.Hitler who incited more hatred against jews into the muslims, sorry, the mohamedans, sorry, the abdullah's ... via the grand-Mufti of Jerusalem back in the late thirties ... than mohamedanism has ever known before ...
Than he lost the war, lots of SS fled with Odessa into the ministries of Nasser where the nazi's helped incite the '67 war against Israel. They lost that one too.
So, today, the post WWII Germans like Gerhard Schröder, Joska Fischer, Otto Schilly, the French-German Bendith Cohn etc. and an ecologist party the Grüne, think they have morally overcome what there dad's did ... but they didn't.
The German green party is idealistically extremely against Nuclear Power - the only answer against islam-oil - and these "Germans" invited the islamization into Europe with a European Union resolution islamization-for-oil.
So the current generation Germans are trying to win the 2nd W.W with the Hitler incited islamization of Europe after all !

Iran is soon going to regret these events as much as anyone.

Remember the Sino-Soviet split, folks? As long as China was in Nationalist hands, there were no outstanding issues between them and the Soviets. But once Mao took over, a viscous rivalry began regarding which version of communism was more authentic.

The same dynamics will be at play here. For as long as the Sunni Arab world clung to its post-colonial, Westernized paradigm, its tensions with Shia Iran certainly existed but were largely contained (the Iran-Iraq war being the period of exception). With the coming advent of militant Islam among the Sunnis, anticipate their doctrinal schism with the Shia to be sorely exacerbated.

Only question is: Will they bury their differences in order to finish off Israel. My guess is they'll try, but the longer Israel survives, the greater likelihood the Sunnis and Shias will descend into their mutual recriminations and hatreds.

You miss one important reality. Yes, of course, the various sects will kill each other while jockeying for power. However, many relatively peaceful Muslims will attempt to flee the carnage. And after they arrive in the promised land, whether that is in Europe, Australia, Canada, or the USA, they will yearn for a return to an Islamic environment. Either they or their children will start their own brand of killing in the name of Islam, in the same manner as the Portland Christmas Tree Bomber.

Or to paraphrase Pogo: We have imported the enemy and he is now us.
