The Iranian regime has warmly praised the revolt in Egypt and called for Islamic rule there. Now the Muslim Brotherhood returns the favor. "Muslim Brotherhood Hails Iran's Role in Reinvigorating Muslim Unity," from the Fars News Agency, February 27:
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior member of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, Kamal al-Halbavi, praised Iran's role in consolidating unity and solidarity among the Muslim countries throughout the world."Given the recent developments in the region, we need unity among the Muslim countries and Iran can play an important role in this regard," Halbavi said on Sunday, addressing a conference in Tehran dubbed 'Islamic Awakening in Arab World'.
He also called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad his favorite leaders in the world, and said, "He is the bravest man in the Muslim world and we (in Egypt) need innocent, honest and brave leaders like him."
Halbavi reiterated that the West is opposed to the progress of the Muslim countries and that's why the world powers are against Iran's progress in scientific and technological fields....
"Halbavi reiterated that the West is opposed to the progress of the Muslim countries and that's why the world powers are against Iran's progress in scientific and technological fields...."
First, what scientific advancements have the muslim world contributed that will further mankind within the last 600 years?
Second, perhaps the West is opposed to the "progress" made by Muslim countries because the only advancements they ever make are in weapons to be used in the jihad against Israel and their allies.
And these numbskulls taking over Egypt is good in what way?
Off-topic but if this is legit then western science will have defeated Islamic tyranny FOREVER!

Haha! God, I know it has to be a fake but if it's legit man, good damned riddance to the whole damned Middle East and having to give a crap about their insanity anymore!
I believe Iran courted the MoHood for some time. On Youtube you can find a video of Qaradawi talking about how he was invited to Iran and given a great reception, and he then lays down the conditions the Shiites have to fulfil if they want unity with the Sunnis. So to some it may seem like a sarcastic anti-Shiite speech, but what if the Shiites will be willing to follow these conditions? It's not that much. In a nutshell, he wanted them not to proselytize in Sunni countries and tone down rhetorically the Shiite theological principles that are in disaccord with the Sunni's.
In a static stable situation it might be difficult to imagine a Sunni-Shiite union, but if there is an exciting enough cause and an enemy external to Islam, they might decide it's in their best interest to unite. For that to happen they can emphasize what they have in common, rather than the differences, and reach an agreement of mutual respect. If Iran could recognize the Alawites in Syria (the ruling elite) as Muslims anything is possible. I have to say that I hear this kind of talk, about Muslim unity, in pretty unexpected quarters, from religious minorities that were rejected by Islam as apostates for centuries, and were persecuted for it too.
Wikileaks showed the Sunni Arab regimes - those who we see now falling one after the other - complained about Iran undermining their governments. Some time ago in Egypt they arrested a group that according to the authorities (we can't know what's true or not) was a Hizaballah cell planning to overthrow the regime.
How deep is the Iranian involvement in the events in the Middle East? I wish we had good investigative journalism that would probe into these matters and tell us who's who, who's connected with whom, and what's happening. But we have pathetic less-than-mediocre journalism, so we'll just have to wait and see.
It would be nice if it were true, eh? But we'll know soon enough:
"The company plans to break ground on a 10-acre demonstration facility this year, and Sims says they could be operating commercially in less than two years."
Anyway, many companies and teams are working in the field of alternative energy sources, and even if we won't find one grand breakthrough that will take care of all our energy needs, there will be incremental success and a combination of methods. We have no choice since we're going to run out of oil this century anyway. If there is no other choice it'll be nuclear energy, but this solution is also only temporary since it's not renewable. Anyway you look at it, energy is a number one priority for research and invention.
Muslim unity? seriously?
'Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life.
It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against the world and all of us against the infidel. '
Leon Uris, 'The Haj'
There is an earlier report where Kamal al-Halbavi expressed his appreciation for Iran's support of the Egyptian revolution. http://www.presstv.ir/detail/164053.html
Slightly OT: al-Halbavi's zabibah is barely visible. Has anyone else noticed that the MB leaders who have surfaced during the uprising in Egypt all have prominent zabibahs? See e.g.

Although the zabibah's are obvious, I have yet to see any notice taken or comment made about this in the MSM, and I'd bet that not one in a hundred casual observers in the West even knows about it or what it is. Jihad Watchers will all know about the zabibah, of course, courtesy of Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, who sports an especially fine zabibah http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/20/al-qaida-obama-bush . Careful observers will note that this is the original image that was photoshopped to put Robert's books on the shelf behind Dr. Z. :)

Some doctor. I also like the rifle that seems to always go along with the Islamic holy books... Fine spiritual object, most suitable for a good doctor with an especially pious zabibah. I think if I had banged my head against the floor so often I'd probably be a pretty angry human being too.
The snowball is starting to roll, first through Dar al-Islam, and then through Dar al-Harb: "Tribalism makes it impossible to defeat Islam by reason or appeals to decency. The Koran, the Pedophile and the Meteorite are not capable of being examined rationally or ethically - they are pre-rational symbols of tribal cohesion. And when that tribe is on a roll , and believes itself to be the strongest and fastest growing tribe winning the Jihad against all the rest, no rational argument will persuade its warriors to abandon the winning side."

Amr Mousa, the secretary general of the Arab
League, a firebrand Arab nationalist (not an Islamist) most likely to become the next Egyptian president.
The Muslim Brotherhood wants to set up theocratic regimes in the Middle East. This will hasten the unity and installation of a Caliphate in the Middle East. The Islamic answer to globalization, no doubt. The result will be to have the ability to further put a choke hold on the West through the control of oil. There are a lot of hidden reasons why the Dems and the MSM would want this to happen but for now at least, they all think that this will bring "democracy" to the Middle East. How long will we be allowed the luxury of such stupidity?

Zogby Int'l/university of Maryland conduct an annual Arab Public Opinion Poll which has shown a consistent decrease year over year in individuals rating nationalistic/arab roots as very important and, surprise, surprise, a consistent increase year over year in individuals rating muslim roots as very important, or clearly more important than arab/nation roots...
When one reviews these polls, one clearly sees pan-arabism is on the way out and pan-islamic identification is on the way in, with the scales now tipped towards pan-islamic identification.
This indeed would be step one in building the ummah and reintroducing the caliphate.
Unfortunately, when the media mentions these surveys it is never with regard to the above (clearly they miss the most apparent and important aspect of the study).
Even Mary Catherine Ham, a FOX News Analyst, missed the importance when she noted that the study showed Turkey to be more secular, blah, blah, blah...what she failed to glean is that it is less secular than it was a year ago, two years ago, etc., she was clearly incapable of seeing from the report (or simply failed to comment) that Turkey is headed in the wrong direction.
Given this, it is no surprise that the MB is getting cozy with Iran and vice versa. What should also be of no surprise is that we should expect to see more of this in the future all across the muslim world.
I just hope the media and powers to be in Washington figure it out soon!

Is Amir Mousa the current Secretary General, or a former one? I recall him once having a public spat w/ the Kuwaiti government after 9/11.
I doubt it: Pragmatism, not to be confused with the art of taqiya, seems alien to them.
Were it not for the politics of power, we would have had the technology.

I agree with your analysis, Doom and Gloom. Sunnis and Shi'ites have already worked together with Hizb'allah and Hamas—both ultimately Iran-backed—operating against Israel in Sunni-majority countries.
Will such an alliance last? Absolutely not—the Sunni/Shi'ite split is too murderous, and Sunnis and Shi'tes are still killing each other around the globe.
But just like the Hitler/Stalin pact, they likely can do a great deal of harm to the civilized world before they wind up stabbing each other in the back.
What will unite the global jihad, after major and minor Islamic kingdoms are fought for and carved out, is the political Mahdi calling for revenge and Sharia rule after enough provocation of the West. Perhaps the conquered Persian people will be the sacrificial goats in a nuclear attack. Perhaps, if enough countries with Islamic upheaval lure in and kill off enough U.S. and allied troops (in addition to Iraq and Afghanistan) and a major city or two is blown up or otherwise destroyed, Obama will sign a dhimmi contract with the Muslim Brotherhood and there will be a victory migration to the West (look at Israelis who were forced to leave their homes to the "Palestinians" who moved in). While Americans are distracted with an orchestrated Left/Right polarized bickering match, Obama is filling up governmental positions with those who facilitate Sharia-friendly operational control. Then, when oil is rationed through dhimmitude, and the U.S. is basically bought up with jihad money, the U.S. will be declared conquered for Islam.
