"Aldawsari has allegedly described his desire for jihad in blog postings and a personal journal." Yet another Misunderstander of Islam. "Feds arrest Saudi man who tried to kill former president, three soldiers once based Abu Ghraib," from the New York Post, February 24 (thanks to PRCS):
LUBBOCK, Texas -- A Saudi man has been busted for allegedly buying chemicals and equipment to make a bomb and researching US targets, including the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush, federal officials said today.Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, 20, a Saudi national and a legal resident of Texas, was arrested Wednesday and faces charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction....
According to the affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, Aldawsari has been researching online how to construct a bomb with the use of several chemicals as ingredients.
He has also acquired most of the ingredients and equipment necessary to construct an IED and he has conducted online research of several potential US targets, the affidavit alleged....
One of the emails he sent himself -- with the subject line listed as "Targets" -- allegedly contained the names and home addresses of three American citizens who had previously served in the US military and had been stationed for a time at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
On Feb. 6, the affidavit alleges Aldawsari sent himself an e-mail titled "Tyrant's House," in which he listed the Dallas address for former President George W. Bush.
In addition, Aldawsari has allegedly described his desire for jihad in blog postings and a personal journal....
Is there a data-base somewhere that documents all the terror arrests in America for the last - say - 20 years? It would useful in...
1) overwhelming the "tiny minority of extremists" argument...yes, the numbers add up
2) documenting our contention that Muslims account for an inordinant percentage of terrorists
...inordinate...
Another nail in the coffin of "it's only because these muslims are poor and disadvantaged that they turn to violence" excuse for the violent nature of Islam!
Our people in Washington are confused by the whole thing regarding anything Muslim. It is surprising they arrested anyone for trying to kill GW unless they think he is more valuable alive to them.
But, but...the saudis are our friends!
"Aldawsari has allegedly described his desire for jihad in blog postings and a personal journal...."
He wanted to demonstrate that he is a pious Muslim...
It's funny- in other religions, the definition of piety is something like prayer, fasting, helping the poor... but to this person, it's blowing stuff up. That says a lot.
Thank goodness so many of these jihadist wannabes are incredibly obtuse. Or maybe they are convinced that allah will guide and protect them as they plot to execute their nefarious deeds. Whatever the case, they often make very stupid mistakes, especially the lone wolves but as their numbers increase and it becomes more difficult to track them, they'll slip through the cracks and succeed in blowing up a city or neighborhood.
It's just a matter of time but not to worry, diversity and multiculturalism are worth the trivial risk posed by islamic barbarians. The social engineers know best and what right do the common people of a nation have to question their intellectual superiors?

Thank goodness Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari is adding to the wonderful "diversity" of our nation! sarc/off
If you read the full article in the Washington Post you will find this awesome little nugget:
"US authorities said any possible threat posed by Aldawarsi has been thwarted with his arrest."
Wow. I feel so much safer now.
Investigators also uncovered a notebook that indicated Aldawarsi's long-held desire to execute a terror attack within the US.
He's 20 years old! How "long" has this desire existed?
(Maybe since he saw was nine or ten years old and watched the WTC attacks?)
Did he come to the US with this aim? WHEN did he come?
WHEN are we going to admit that Saudi males should NOT be allowed into the US?

Purchases of Chemical Ingredients and Other Equipment
The affidavit alleges that on Feb. 1, 2011, a chemical supplier reported to the FBI a suspicious attempted purchase of concentrated phenol by a man identifying himself as Khalid Aldawsari. According to the affidavit, phenol is a toxic chemical with legitimate uses, but can also be used to make the explosive trinitrophenol, also known as T.N.P., or picric acid. The affidavit alleges that other ingredients typically used with phenol to make picric acid, or T.N.P., are concentrated sulfuric and nitric acids.
Aldawsari allegedly attempted to have the phenol order shipped to a freight company so it could be held for him there, but the freight company returned the order to the supplier and called the police. Later, Aldawsari falsely told the supplier he was associated with a university and wanted the phenol for "off-campus, personal research." Frustrated by questions being asked over his phenol order, Aldawsari cancelled his order and later e-mailed himself instructions for producing phenol. The affidavit alleges that in December 2010, he successfully purchased concentrated nitric and sulfuric acids.
According to the affidavit, legally authorized electronic surveillance revealed that Aldawsari used various e-mail accounts in researching explosives and targets, and often sent emails to himself as part of this process. On Feb. 11, 2011, for instance, he allegedly e-mailed himself a recipe for picric acid, which the e-mail describes as a "military explosive." He also allegedly sent himself an e-mail on Oct. 19, 2010 that contained information on the material required for Nitro Urea, how to prepare it, and the advantages of using it.
The affidavit alleges that Aldawsari also e-mailed himself instructions on how to convert a cellular phone into a remote detonator and how to prepare a booby-trapped vehicle using items available in every home. One e-mail allegedly contained a message stating that "one operation in the land of the infidels is equal to ten operations against occupying forces in the land of the Muslims." During December 2010 and January 2011, Aldawsari allegedly purchased many other items, including a gas mask, a Hazmat suit, a soldering iron kit, glass beakers and flasks, wiring, a stun gun, clocks and a battery tester.
Searches of Aldawsari's Residence
Two legally authorized searches of Aldawsari's apartment conducted by the FBI in February 2011 indicated that the concentrated sulfuric and nitric acids; the beakers and flasks; wiring; Hazmat suit; and clocks were present in Aldawsari's residence.
FBI agents also found a notebook at Aldawsari's residence that appeared to be a diary or journal. According to the affidavit, excerpts from the journal indicate that Aldawsari had been planning to commit a terrorist attack in the United States for years. One entry describes how Aldawsari sought and obtained a particular scholarship because it allowed him to come directly to the United State and helped him financially, which he said "will help tremendously in providing me with the support I need for Jihad." The entry continues: "And now, after mastering the English language, learning how to build explosives and continuous planning to target the infidel Americans, it is time for Jihad."
In another entry, Aldawsari allegedly wrote that he was near to reaching his goal and near to getting weapons to use against infidels and their helpers. He also listed a "synopsis of important steps" that included obtaining a forged U.S. birth certificate; renting a car; using different driver's licenses for each car rented; putting bombs in cars and taking them to different places during rush hour; and leaving the city for a safe place.

I wonder what Obama would say if a terrorist murdered Bush?
Probably offer a plea bargain down to manslaughter provided he didn't use the "J" word in court.
Is there a data-base somewhere that documents all the terror arrests in America for the last - say - 20 years? It would useful in...
Cornelius,
One thing I've seen in ten years: the overwhelming number of those arrested are not only Muslim, but they were allowed into the country AFTER 9/11.
We will demonstrate our multicultural bona fides even if it kills us. It seems many of our leaders would rather die than be seen as other than a citizen of the world.
Another thing that will do us in is our success at stopping some of these plots. It leads to complacency. We figure we can weed out the bad guys before they do any harm and it frees us of reponsibility. We don't have to make other countries mad at us or deal with the politically correct. See no evil, hear no evil and that means we have no responsibility to deal with it.
I expect he'd say that not all Muslims can be judged by this one person, that Islam is a religion of peace.
The thing is, he's not alone in that view. I expect Bush would say something similar if a terrorist murdered his father.
@Cornelius and @PMK
The loonwatchers are right on this one. The majority of US terrorist acts are not Islam-inspired. They quote recent FBI statistics where I think the Puerto Ricans take the lead.
However, the number of deaths is the greatest because of 9/11.
Did he come to the US with this aim?
Yes: see description of residence quoted in my prior comment
When did he come?
Admitted to the US on a student visa in 2008.
CBS News (URL below) added some important information: he is a chemical engineering major. Lefties can no longer claim that Islamists are restricted to poor, insane, or naive people. Chemical engineering is a difficult major, i.e. only intelligent people make it into the program, so we are lucky that this Islamist made a few mistakes in acquiring his materials.

Watch the typical response from CAIR's propagand machine. They'll be crying "Islamophooooooooooooobia" in 3...2...1...They'll be threatening to sue the FBI for "profiling" this man just because he "looks" Muslim and prays butt in the air five times a day, while trying to whitewash the evidence against him.
His lawyers will probably claim his online postings were "protected speech." After all, in this country those who are U.S. citizens have First Amendment rights, including liberals and Islamists. They have the right to be cheerleaders for the liberal agenda and for HAMAS, they just can't act on their hatred for America by trying to blow us up, acting in that regard, crossing the line between free speech and possession of bomb-making materials, or crossing the line into violence and threats.
However, and I'm not an expert in law, but given that they have evidence against him, such as him buying all those bomb-making chemicals and supplies, that in conjunction with his online postings and journals will probably convict him, if it leaves no reasonable doubt that he was a bona fide jihadist intending to attack America, and given what we know from the article, I suspect that was indeed the case. I hope they lock this nutcase up for good, or deport him back to Walt Wahabbo Dhimmitude Land (Saudi Arabia).
It's a shame though that when liberals, who are ideologically the same as these Islamist animals, express their hatred for all that is American, Christian, or Conservative; when they express their vile vitreol against our brave and honorable armed military forces, when they try to take away our First Amendment rights to offend and criticize them, that we can't in turn just lock them up, have them charged with Treason for their subversive sedition, or have them executed.
But alas, I am no fascist (like all liberals are). In a true Republican Democracy, people (mostly liberals and their Islamist overlords) have the right to criticize and hate America as they all do. They just can't plot to blow up America and buy chemicals and supplies that a jury of their peers would conclude was a reasonable and bona fide intent to destroy the country that liberals and Islamists hate, otherwise they will get caught and exposed for the true traitors that they (both the Left and the Islamists) are.
Didn't Dubya tell Americans "Saudis are our friends"?
Didn't Dubya piss on Americans on 9/17, from an Islamic center:

This Saudi puppet has done more harm to America than all previous presidents put-together.
However, Plot against an American ex-president, constitutes WAR!
- FRY Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari.
- Freeze Saudi Assets.
- Kick out Saudi ambassador.
- Recall US ambassador from Al-Riyadh.
- Suspend diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia.
No, there is no contradiction in any or all of the above.

Associated Press report from:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2011/02/24/state/n081747S23.DTL
A young college student from Saudi Arabia who studied chemical engineering in Texas purchased explosive chemicals over the Internet as part of a plan to hide bomb materials inside dolls and baby carriages to blow up dams, nuclear plants or the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush, the Justice Department said Thursday.
One of the chemical companies, Carolina Biological Supply of Burlington, N.C., reported suspicious purchases by Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, 20, of Lubbock, Texas, to the FBI on Feb. 1.
Aldawsari, who was legally in the U.S. on a student visa, was expected to appear in federal court on Friday. He was charged Thursday with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Aldawsari entered the U.S. in October 2008 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to study chemical engineering at Texas Tech University, then transferred earlier this year to nearby South Plains College, where he was studying business. A Saudi industrial company, which was not identified in court documents, was paying his tuition and living expenses in the U.S.
"He was a weird guy," said Ahmid Obaidan, a senior at Tennessee State University who also is from Saudi Arabia and met Aldawsar in Nashville, Tenn., when Aldawsari was studying at an English language center at Vanderbilt University. "He was quiet. I thought he was a good guy, but what I've heard now, I'm shocked."

Special Agent Mark White, a spokesman for the Dallas FBI, whose jurisdiction includes Lubbock, said the terrorism investigation is ongoing, but "the federal complaint contains no allegations that he received direction from or was under the control of a foreign terrorist organization."
Aldawsari attended Texas Tech University before leaving due to bad grades, authorities said. Aldawsari then began attending South Plains College near Lubbock.

There's only one "follower" on the blog, Aristiono Nogroho a high school lecturer from Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia. I bet he's sweating.
Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, 20, a Saudi national and a legal resident of Texas...
Why? WHY?! Legal resident my ass, don't already have too many "legal" Moslems to keep an eye on?
*** 33:21 ***
Also, why is the "why" question never asked publicly?
What else do you expect in a country which sees the 'enemy' as a Polish-born 11 years old Catholic girl and not a 20 years old Saudi-born Muslim wannabe Jihadist?
Why ask why. Sigh.
"blow up dams, nuclear plants or the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush, the Justice Department said Thursday."
Well at least he was smart enough to repeatedly scale his goals down when he realized how impossible they are.
I think ultimately he probably would have blown up a hotdog vendor cart located 8 miles from George Bush.
Lol, after this, no Muzzy's going to be able to get 1 mile next to Bush without setting off flags. Someone better hire Michael Jackson's skin bleach doctor! :D
Interesting. Despite Puerto Rican terrorism, the larger Puerto Rican opposition to the status quo wants Statehood rather than independence.
This Saudi puppet has done more harm to America than all previous presidents put-together.
Come on, you couldn't mean that. Obama outdid Bush in less than two years and please name one administration that hasn't all but kissed Saudi ass. AT least Bush didn't bow to the slimy Saudi king, he only held his hand. Obama has spent more money in two years than all previous presidents put together with nothing but hundreds of thousands of new government jobs to show for it.
Iam a indian hindu and i think Obama is unfairly criticised by americans in here . Iam sure he is doing his best to eradicate the dangers associated with islam but lets face it their population is more than a billion so surely they cant be completely eradicated and moreover as a president of united states he has to comply with the american promise and laws which garranty complete freedom of religion and speach. Americans were one eyed as far as pakistan is concerned for a very long time and it was Bush who first identified the notoriety of pak intelligence agencies in their jihad against india and their links to muslim extremists. Obama has been doing a very good job since taking over the mantle from Bush but to be honest there is only so much can any body do.For all practical purposes u cant wage a war against an entire religion
From materials quoted by Tom Billesley, above:
"on Feb. 1, 2011, a chemical supplier reported to the FBI a suspicious attempted purchase of concentrated phenol by a man identifying himself as Khalid Aldawsari."
and" Aldawsari allegedly attempted to have the phenol order shipped to a freight company so it could be held for him there, but the freight company returned the order to the supplier and called the police".
Kudos to the chemical company and the freight company: 'If you see something, say something'.
They saw something and they said something, and thus the plot was exposed.
In a later report, the chemical supplier is identified as "Carolina Biological Supply" -
"FBI agents received on February 1 a tip from a chemical supply company, Carolina Biological Supply in North Carolina".
Congratulations to whoever it was at Carolina Biological Supply who got a bad feeling about this particular order, and this particular customer, and called the FBI.
The name of the freight company isn't given.
But maybe American jihadwatchers might consider sending brief, appreciative emails to 'Carolina Biological Supply' to thank them for heading this jihadist off at the pass. Same deal to the freight company involved, if its name can be discovered.
