Egypt: Copts' protests ignored by rest of world as governor refuses to rebuild destroyed church where it stood

Now, we trust every man, woman, and child in America will forever remember where they were yesterday when word came of Charlie Sheen's firing. It was top news even outside of the U.S. media.

Meanwhile, Copts in Egypt entered into a second day of protests (according to Reuters) after the massive, savage attack on a church by thousands of Muslims shouting "Allahu akbar," over a relationship between a Muslim woman and a Christian man. They protested in front of the state television building, where heaven knows if they had any chance of being seen by people with cameras, it would be there.

Predictably, the Western mainstream media has been virtually silent on Christian protests in Egypt. Acknowledging them -- acknowledging the systematic, centuries-old victimization of the Christian minority at the hands of the Muslim majority -- would upset the accepted, tidy, storybook narrative of an Egyptian revolution built on interfaith cooperation. It would tarnish a feel-good story out of the Muslim world, and the media are loath to let that pearl of great price roll away.

"Egypt's prime minister meets Christian protesters," by Ahmed Aleiba for Reuters, March 7:

Prime Minister Essam Sharaf joined some 1,000 Christian protesters on Monday evening, who welcomed him but refused to talk to him before the Helwan governor resigns.
Egyptian Christians protested on Monday after a church was set on fire on the outskirts of Cairo, the latest sectarian flare-up in a country already facing political turmoil.
The army vowed to rebuild the church before Easter holidays, but the protestors say the governor of Helwan (south of Cairo) refuses to rebuild the church in its original location, and suggests another site outside the village.
Christians oppose this suggestion.
"We demand the resignation of Helwan governor," said one of the protestors gathered in front of the state TV building.
Some Muslims also joined the crowd who gathered outside the state television building in central Cairo. Banners called for a unified law for worship buildings. Protestors say they won't leave before our demands are met.
Witnesses and a security source said the church in Helwan was torched after a row sparked by a romantic relationship between a Christian man and a Muslim woman.
Christians say many muslims saved and protected priests when the blaze was started. "But there were others, some unknown, who attacked the Muslims who rescued the Church clerks." [clerics?]

In the original story, a priest and three deacons remained unaccounted for. Updates since then have not mentioned them.

They should be prepared for a long wait....and a prayer goes out to the missing deacons...quite possibly , by now they may certainly be dead..

The ridiculous Chinese Muslim apologist "Horse" recently weighed in on this phenomenon, implying that it was only practiced by Muslims such as the Hui minority who would be in danger of disappearing altogether if they didn't 'protect their religion'.

Are Muslims in Egypt—which is about 90% Muslim—in similar "danger"? I think not.

This is Muslim supremacism, pure and simple.

Funny how all these "sectarian flare-ups" seem to take the form of Muslim attacks on Christians.

An attempt to further marginalize Christians.

Well, good for these decent Muslims. They are, as I have noted, simply better than their awful "faith".

I fear, however, that they are far outnumbered by those "others"—the more devout Muslims who were attacking the Christians and torching their church to begin with.

Also, how many of these decent Muslim are now afraid to aid Christians, after having been attacked by their savage coreligionists?

The vast majority of Americans don't even know what a Copt is.

That's really too bad, especially these days.

Funny how all these "sectarian flare-ups" seem to take the form of Muslim attacks on Christians.

I know you already know this, Graven, but this quote could just as well apply to flared up Moslem activists attacking Hindus down in the Subcontinent. One-way religious riots occur there with numbing regularity.

This incident with the church being destroyed by a mob of activated Moslems and the shiv to get it the hell outta town... has there been any follow up on this by those of our news entertainers who saw blossoming of democracy in Egypt? Rachel, Bill, Chris, Big Head Ed, Morning Joe, Katie, Christiana, Anderson, Matt - are any of you willing to dine on a plate of cold crow by reporting the damned facts of the matter?

As I recall, only Hannity resisted the sanguine urge over the past month.

As I predicted several weeks ago the first victims in Egypt who are killed after the Arab Woodstock fizzles out would be the Christain Coptics. Why? Because they live there and are easy targets of Muslim rage. Especially after the local Iman gets them all Allah Ackbared up after the friday prayers. Any good Muslim worth his salt will surge into the streets and if not actually kill a Copt, at least make the obligatory good faith effort. But none of this is even news in post Christain America, not when we can watch Charlie Sheen or mtv, or something like that that provides real value to our lives. Meanwhile Muslims all over the world are sharpening their knives and preparing for the battle ahead. Make no mistake, America, it's coming.

When Muslims do something good to infidels, it is in spite of Islam, not because of Islam.

don't put words in my mouth, i said that muslim women marrying non muslim men was forbidden in Islam, and that Malays broke Islamic laws by marrying non muslims.

Deadly religious clash in Cairo
At least one person has died in clashes between Coptic Christians and Muslims in Cairo, Egyptian officials say.
Reports say the victim was a Coptic Christian. Fifteen people were injured.

BBC News March 8th 2011 @ 21:48 GMT (Zulu)

The violence began during a protest by Copts against last week's burning of a church. Tuesday's violence erupted when Coptic protesters blocked a highway in the Egyptian capital, protesting against the burning of the church in the province of Helwan.

The rally angered Muslims who wanted to pass through.
Witnesses say people from both sides then began throwing stones until the army intervened. Witnesses say the army fired into the air to disperse the crowds.

If you have a civil demonstration in the street and what should be the submissive dhimmis block the road for a muslim, then they've broken the contract of so-called 'protection' and it's murderous rage time. How 7th century.

A democratic society with civic peace, equal rights and fair treatment for minorities, and the rule of a just and impartial secular law in Egypt? It must look like Shangri-La, receding into that "Lost Horizon".

So, the non-Muslim minorities in Muslim lands are shown in the media to be plundered and attacked and murdered relentlessly, while the same media reports the minority of Muslims in the U.S. to be the noble few who need to be protected from possible (theoretical) rampaging Christians? Well, perhaps there are Muslims who came and who come to the U.S. to be free of Sharia law and who are trapped in Islam against their wills under penalty of death (the truly peaceful Muslims?), but can we count on their loyalty when there are finally enough Muslims/Muslims in power to enforce Sharia law? Keep in mind that Sharia law claims worldwide jurisdiction and it is an obligation on all Muslims to enforce it if possible (taysir). If the West could, indeed, guarantee freedom of religion and protection against killing of apostates, would more Muslims convert and commit to Western legal systems?

Henry is gone, but carrying on in his tradition of great and fearless posting, might I dare to point out that those Christians have been turning the other cheek for a long, long time - soon Christians from all over the world will begin to support them with real money, and, when that happens, it will force the west to finally square off against the people who walk lock step by direct order of the Might Koran, creating a horrible ground war against one billion suicide bombers (I know there are more than one billion Muslims - about 200,000,000 of 'em don't believe in becoming suicide bombers, but everyone knows that they will be of no help to us because any Muslim loves any kind of Muslim a thousand per cent more than any unfortunate fellow born of any other religious persuasion - well, there your future for you, compliments of mindless multiculturalism.
